If Rihanna said it, you know what time it is!
Although Rihanna seems like she’s on the fast track to world domination with her wildly popular (and very inclusive) beauty and fashion lines, philanthropy work, her forthcoming music project (at least, what fans hope is forthcoming), and her general slayage of us all, it appears that the bad girl has still found time to prioritize encouraging political engagement.
Rihanna took to her Instagram on Tuesday morning to urge her American followers to register to vote because October 9th is the last day in 14 states — Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas — for citizens to register to vote. In the caption of her post, Ri encouraged her followers to take initiative to make the kind of change they wanted to see in the world by voting.
“I don’t care what responsibilities you have today, there’s no greater responsibility than being in control of your future and your future starts now!” she wrote. “We don’t have time, no procrastinating, don’t let the discouragement take you off course, that’s not how my people or my generation will go down…this is the loudest way to make your voice heard!”
This isn’t the first time that Rihanna has made a statement about American politics despite being unable to vote in the U.S. herself, being from Barbados; she had previously spoken out against President Donald Trump immigration travel ban and seemingly threw her support behind Hillary Clinton by wearing a meta t-shirt with Clinton’s face on it on Election Day in 2016.

Man accused of murdering woman on front lawn, driving ‘back and forth’ over her
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A gruesome murder has residents of one Memphis, Tennessee community shocked and heartbroken, according to WREG.
Police responded to the call Sunday night and found a woman who had been severely beaten and run over – allegedly by the father of her children. That man, 34-year-old Santrez Traylor, has been arrested numerous times for domestic abuse, according to court records.
Neighbor Jay Smoot said he couldn’t believe what happened, especially in their quiet Orange Mound neighborhood.
“We saw a car driving back and forth across the lawn, and we didn’t know what was happening from where we could see. But it turned out we were witnessing the murder occurring,” he said.
Police responded to an armed party call at a house in the 3200 block Carnes around 9:30 Sunday night.
Witnesses said they heard a woman scream and discovered it was their neighbor, Amanda Petrowski. The father of her children, was said to be repeatedly hitting her in the head with a brick or rock.
“I didn’t realize the severity of what was happening just right across the street,” Smoot said.
Witnesses said Traylor then got into a car and ran Petrowski over several times near her porch. Bloodied damage and tire marks could be seen on Monday.
One neighbor told WREG she was on the phone with police for eight minutes while she waited for them to arrive.
Traylor was about to leave when officers showed up.
“He tried to flee the cops. He drove across the yard and into the street and the cops took off after him. That was the last of what we saw of the incident,” Smoot said. “We feel bad for the kids and for her mother. I heard when they told her mother what happened. It was just gut-wrenching.”
Petrowski was pronounced dead on the scene.
“I was shocked. I got real emotional,” Deborah Robinson told WREG. Robinson said she is a domestic violence survivor and vowed to keep sharing her story for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in honor of victims like Petrowski.
“Don’t look down on us,” Robinson said. “It’s hard, especially us as women, and it does happen to men, but we’ve got to have the support of everybody.”
Police reports show Traylor has been arrested multiple times over the past three years for stalking or abusing Petrowski.
Just last month, he was arrested for trespassing, threatening to “beat her brains in” and threatening to put one of their two children “through the wall.”
Affidavits say he once called around 200 times and has threatened to kill her before.
Traylor now faces second-degree murder charges and two counts of aggravated assault.

Meghan Markle’s Half-Sister Continues to Be Messy—This Time, at the Gates of Kensington Palace
You know, there’s a word for folks who don’t take “no” for an answer, choosing instead to obsessively fixate on someone, even showing up uninvited at their residence.
Fun fact: That word is not “sister.”
According to the Daily Mail and the Mirror, Samantha Markle, the perpetually-messy, estranged half-sister of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, once again proved that the new royal was right to distance herself when she showed up at the gates of Kensington Palace over the weekend, reportedly planning to “confront” her famous sister about the treatment of their father, the equally questionable Thomas Markle.
Armed with a purportedly handwritten note (contents unknown), the 53-year-old Markle, who suffers from multiple sclerosis but nevertheless flew all the way to the United Kingdom to make a scene, was photographed attempting to leave said note with the palace guard, after arriving unannounced.
Access was denied, as reportedly was the attempted communication, but that didn’t stop the messiest Markle from achieving her desired photo ops. She and her unidentified companion (presumably boyfriend Mark Phillips) were then spotted buying royal-themed merchandise—including Meghan and Harry masks. We dare not even speculate on why.
This, of course, follows nearly a year of seeming harassment and media appearances by Samantha Markle (including a rumored stint on Celebrity Big Brother UK) since her celebrity sister announced her engagement to Prince Harry in fall of 2017—including rallying their father into making a media spectacle of himself, as well. After threatening to crash the royal wedding in May, and then claiming to have allegedly been involved in a paparazzi-induced car crash that she compared to Princess Diana’s, though police have said there is no evidence of such a crash, it seems safe to say Samantha Markle’s idea of family is dysfunctional, to say the least.
With this latest stunt, it seems Markle has escalated from half-sister to full stalker. As usual, the Duchess of Sussex has issued neither comment nor acknowledgment of this latest spectacle.

The former Cleveland police officer who fatally shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice has been hired by a police department in a small Ohio village, the AP reports. Bellaire’s police chief, Richard Flanagan, confirmed Friday that he hired Timothy Loehmann as a part-time officer. “He was cleared of any and all wrongdoing,” Flanagan tells the Times Leader. “He was never charged. It’s over and done with.” According to published reports, Loehmann, who is white, shot Tamir, who was black, two seconds after responding to a 2014 call about the boy carrying what turned out to be a pellet gun.
A grand jury declined to indict Loehmann, who was fired last year after it was discovered he had been deemed “unfit for duty” on an earlier job. That happened in Independence, Ohio, where he was told in 2012 to quit or be fired after a deputy chief deemed him unable to follow directions, communicate, or execute proper handgun control. Loehmann chose to resign from the police force, per an old Guardian article. Loehmann also failed an exam by the Maple Heights, Ohio, police department in 2009. “Ms. Rice believes that Timothy Loehmann does not belong on any police force, anywhere, period,” the Rice family attorney tells Cleveland 19. Bellaire is a village of about 4,000 along the Ohio River, more than 150 miles south of Cleveland.

Feds say they’ll forgive your student loan, but almost no one actually benefits
Student loan forgiveness promises fall far short due to red tape, fine print and bad advice. One program denied debt relief to 99 percent of borrowers.
The Department of Education recently released a status report on its Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, and the results are eye-popping. The program promises loan cancellations for borrowers who commit to 10 years of public service, and the first group of borrowers is finally eligible. According to the status report, however, almost no one is getting relief: Of the 32,601 applications received by the end of June, only 96 borrowers have actually had their debt cancelled. Ninety-nine percent of the applications that have been processed were denied.
As lawmakers explore new solutions to our nation’s student debt crisis and college affordability woes, PSLF should serve as a cautionary tale. The program’s outcomes are distressing, but they are not entirely shocking. At first glance, PSLF sounds simple and generous. But it was packed full of red tape and fine print that made it nearly impossible for borrowers to navigate — red tape that was compounded by inexcusably poor advice from student loan servicers. For instance, many borrowers were unintentionally enrolled in the wrong repayment plan while completing their years of public service, rendering them ineligible for PSLF.
Solutions to student debt don’t come cheap
To develop policies that are likely to gain bipartisan support, legislators look for “sensible solutions” with modest price tags. But this creates tension when it comes to finding meaningful answers that speak to their constituents’ concerns over the high price of college and rising student debt. With 44 million student loan borrowers and more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt, those solutions don’t come cheap.
There is no amount of magic math that allows legislators to concoct generous benefits for students and other borrowers at little to no cost. But there is math that can take a program aimed at providing a generous benefit, load it up with eligibility requirements, conditions and other fine print, and greatly minimize the program’s cost. The result is government programs that sound great at bill signing ceremonies and in policymakers’ news releases, but provide very little value to Americans when implemented.

Bill Cosby wants out of prison already
It’s been less than two weeks since Bill Cosby got sentenced and his lawyers are already trying to get him out of prison — and the judge in his case tossed, too.
A defense motion filed Friday outlines his attorneys’ requests, which include the overturning of the actor’s conviction and three- to 10-year sentence on account of errors made in his sex assault case and trial.
“The defendant, William H. Cosby, Jr., moves this Court for a new trial in the interest of justice, or at least for reconsideration and modification of the sentence imposed on September 25, 2018,” the motion says, according to Deadline.
Cosby’s defense team claims Judge Steven O’Neill should’ve recused himself from the sentence hearing following the 2017 mistrial and ensuing retrial this spring.
“For the reasons detailed in Mr. Cosby’s previously-filed motions for recusal (which are incorporated here by reference, without being repeated and set forth at length), and for all the foregoing reasons, a reasonable observer could question the impartiality of the judge who imposed the September 25, 2018, sentence,” the filing says. “Accordingly, Judge O’Neill should have recused himself from imposing sentence.”
