Man stabbed at haunted house by friend who thought knife was a prop
Halloween is James Yochim’s favorite time of year: “I get really excited about going to haunted houses.”
His Friday night at Nashville Nightmare in Madison—a sprawling attraction with four haunted houses, an escape room, and scary cast members running around with fake weapons—might dull the thrill, however.
Yochim says a thin man with skull makeup, assumed to be an actor, approached his friend, Tawnya Greenfield, asking if Yochim was “f—ing around with her,” per BuzzFeed. When she jokingly said yes, the man handed her a knife and said “stab him,”
Yochim tells the Nashville Tennessean. “Keep in mind, we’d been chased by chainsaws, holding other weapons, all kinds of stuff all night, and it was all fake,” he adds. “So she stabs at me with it, and everything got really black.”
The blade—very much real—went through the 29-year-old’s forearm.
Though it didn’t hit any major arteries, bones, or tendons, “his arm was gushing blood like something out of a horror scene,” Greenfield tells Fox 17.
Nine stitches later, Yochim recalls the unknown man apologizing as he lay bleeding, saying, “I didn’t know my knife was that sharp.” But according to Yochim, there were no weapons allowed inside the attraction and visitors were required to go through “very thorough” metal detectors.
In a Tuesday statement, Nashville Nightmare’s organizers said an employee believed to be “involved in some way” had been placed on leave “until we can determine his involvement.” An initial police report said the suspect had not been identified. No charges have been laid.

4-year-old girl gives mom crack cocaine she got at Bronx day care
BRONX — A 4-year-old girl brought crack cocaine home from her Bronx day care.
Mom Sabrina Straker was horrified when her daughter, Serenity, showed her the capsules and explained she’d put one of them in her mouth. The girl gave her mom the capsules on Friday. She told Straker another child in the day care gave her his “teeth,” but when the Straker looked at the capsules, she knew something was wrong.
“This can’t be what I think it is,” Straker said she thought at the time. “How did this get in the day care?”
She immediately went to the 46th Precinct to alert police. Narcotics detectives ran a test on the capsules and confirmed it was crack cocaine.
Serenity was then rushed to a hospital where she tested positive for the drugs. Serenity had put one of the capsules in her mouth, but then spat it out.
“She could have died if she ingested this,” Straker said. “I was furious.”
PIX11 spoke with Yvette Joseph, the director at the Little Inventors Day Care on Andrews Avenue in the Bronx, to get answers. She said someone threw the drugs over the fence and it fell into the hands of one of the children.
“We checked our center thoroughly and all of the children are safe,” Joseph said.
Police are looking at all possibilities, including at the family of the child who gave the capsules to Serenity.
Straker wants the day care shut down, she said staff there drop the ball not noticing the children passing around the capsules filled with drugs like candy.
“No one was watching the children,” she said. “There are 15 kids in the room with two teachers and two aides, where were they when this was going on?”
PIX11 reached out to the Administration for Children’s Services to see if the agency is looking into this, but they have not yet responded. but so far no comment. The NYPD is investigation this as an endangering the welfare of a child case.

Anthony Weiner Scheduled For Early Release From Prison
The former Democratic congressman, who admitted to sexting with a teen, is reportedly being released in May for good conduct.
Anthony Weiner, the former New York congressman who pleaded guilty to sexting with a minor, is scheduled to be released from prison three months earlier than his original sentencing stipulated.
Federal Bureau of Prisons records show that Weiner is scheduled to be released on May 14, 2019, after serving 18 months in prison. He was originally sentenced to 21 months and had been scheduled for release in August 2019.
Weiner is being released for good conduct in prison, CNN and Politico confirmed Tuesday with a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson.
The former congressman and ex-husband of Hillary Clinton’s longtime aide Huma Abedin turned himself over to the FBI and pleaded guilty to a federal obscenity charge in May 2017. In front of a judge in a Manhattan federal court, Weiner admitted that he met a 15-year-old high school student on the internet and “engaged in obscene communication with this teen, just as I had done and continued to do with adult women.”
“I accept full responsibility for my conduct,” Weiner said in a statement. “I have a sickness but I do not have an excuse. … I apologize to the teenage girl who I mistreated so badly.”
Weiner, who served as a Democrat in the House of Representatives for over two decades, resigned from Congress in 2011 after he was caught exchanging sexually explicit photos with women on social media. He then lost a bid for New York City mayor after more explicit messages became public.
In late August, the New York Post reported that Weiner had sent photos of his crotch to another woman, including a photo in which he was posing next to his 4-year-old son. Hours after the story was published, Abedin announced she was separating from Weiner. She later filed for divorce.
Federal officials and the New York City Police Department began investigating Weiner in September 2016 after the Daily Mail published a story accusing him of sending sexually explicit text messages to a 15-year-old girl.
Weiner’s text messages played a role in the 2016 presidential campaign. During the probe of Weiner’s conduct, federal agents found emails from Abedin on his laptop, prompting then-FBI Director Jams Comey to reopen an investigation into the private email server Clinton used during her time as U.S. secretary of state.

Pope compares having an abortion to ‘hiring a hit man’
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – Pope Francis on Wednesday compared having an abortion to “hiring a “hit man” to eliminate a problematic person, in comments sure to be welcomed by conservative Catholics who have accused the pontiff of not speaking out enough on “cultural war” issues.
Abortion is a raging political battle in a number of countries, including the United States, where many conservatives hope the Supreme Court will eventually overturn the landmark 1973 ruling known as Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion.
Francis made his off-the-cuff comments on abortion, some of his toughest to date, in an address to tens of thousands of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square for his weekly general audience.
The pope denounced what he called the contradiction of allowing “the suppression of human life in the mother’s womb in the name of safeguarding other rights”.
“But how can an act that suppresses an innocent and helpless life that is germinating be therapeutic, civilized or even simply human?” he said.
“I ask you: ‘Is it right to ‘take out’ a human life to solve a problem? What do you think? Is it right? Is it right or not?” he said in unprepared remarks.
Many in the crowd shouted “No”.
“Is it right to hire a hit man to solve a problem? You cannot, it is not right to kill a human being, regardless of how small it is, to solve a problem. It is like hiring a hit man to solve a problem,” he said.
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that life begins at the moment of conception and ends at the moment of natural death. It also forbids euthanasia but says that a family or a patient can decide to stop using extraordinary means to keep people alive.
Shortly after becoming pope in March 2013, Francis appeared to downplay the importance of “cultural war” issues such as abortion, contraception and gay marriage, saying in an interview the Church had become “obsessed” with them.
“It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time,” he said in that interview, adding that the Church’s stand on them was very clear and that it also had to address social issues such as poverty, injustice and immigration.

Kim Kardashian West: Thanks for Putting Me on Gov’s Radar Says Death Row Prisoner
The death row inmate Kim Kardashian West pushed into the spotlight says he appreciates her support, but adds he desperately needs her to get him the one thing he needs to clear his name.
California prisoner Kevin Cooper‘s attorney, Norman Hile, tells TMZ … Cooper is aware Kim tweeted about him a few days ago, putting his case front and center with her 60 million followers, but says he really just needs one person’s attention — CA Governor Jerry Brown.
Cooper needs Gov. Brown to order new advanced DNA testing … a request that’s been ignored up to this point.

If you’re unfamiliar with his story … Cooper was convicted of 4 murders in the 1980s. He’s maintained his innocence, and even suggested he was framed. A NYT op-ed on the case concluded the same thing.
Kim’s tweet was a direct plea to Gov. Brown, and Hile says Cooper is hoping Kim’s legion of fans follow up, research his case and then write to Brown. For his part, Cooper is going to write a thank-you letter to Kim.
Our Kim sources tell us she has no personal connection to Cooper, and she simply stumbled across an article about him a few months ago. What’s also interesting … her push on his behalf comes just ahead of Kanye West‘s Thursday meeting with President Trump.
The White House says they’ll be talking prison reform, but Cooper’s case would be off the table — it’s a state matter, not federal.

Bar accused of glamorizing violence against women after serving cocktail with ‘disturbing’ name
A bar in Sydney has come under fire for promoting a cocktail on their menu that seems to glamorize domestic violence.
Customers of Little Jack Horner have called out the establishment for a drink named “To-Kill-Her” —apparently a play on the pronunciation of tequila, the main ingredient in the cocktail, in addition to orange, lemon, grapefruit bitters, and Cointreau.

The name of the drink was offensive to many. (Photos: HBO/Little Jack Horner)
Many expressed their outrage on the bar’s Facebook page, calling the name of the drink “grossly irresponsible” and “incredibly offensive.”
“The ‘To Kill Her’ cocktail name is neither funny nor clever,” one person wrote. “It is a grossly irresponsible act to have it appear on your menu.”

“Domestic violence and femicide is a real issue, pairing that issue with alcohol is beyond disgusting,” another commenter wrote.
Many others echoed similar sentiments.
One person suggested the bar name the cocktail “after thrilling women rather than killing them.” Another customer said that a manager had assured some customers the name would be switched to something more acceptable but still has not delivered on that promise.

When Yahoo Lifestyle contacted the bar about the outrage, the manager said the name of the cocktail had been changed to “To-Love-Her.”

‘Babysitting while black’: Woman calls police on male babysitter with white children
A black babysitter says a woman called the police on him while two white children were in his care.
On Sunday, while babysitting for the 10-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son of his friends Dana Mango and David Parker, Corey Lewis of Marietta, Ga., treated the kids to lunch at a Subway inside Walmart. Afterward, the 27-year-old, who runs the youth mentoring program Inspired by Lewis, was standing with the kids outside his car while the boy finished eating when he noticed a white woman sitting in her car, staring.
“She pulled up alongside us and asked, ‘Are the kids OK?’” Lewis tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “I answered, ‘Why wouldn’t they be?’ She just smirked and drove off.”
The woman circled the parking lot and returned to Lewis’s car, saying, “Can I ask the little girl if she knows who you are?” and Lewis answered, “No, you cannot.” The woman then said, “OK, I will take down your license plate,” and left.
“I asked a few white witnesses if it looked suspicious that I was caring for two white children, and they said ‘Kind of,’” says Lewis. “But the kids were goofing around and eating, and there was no sign of danger.”
Lewis headed to a service station, and while he was pumping gas, he noticed the woman’s car again. Concerned about the children’s safety, he drove to his house, and when he arrived, so did the woman — and a police car.
“I didn’t do anything — the police is here now!” Lewis said in a Facebook Live video with more than 230K views. “I’m being followed and harassed.”
In the video, the officer, whom Lewis says was courteous, spoke to the children, who confirmed Lewis’s identity. “Two white kids being with one black male is suspicious,” Lewis scoffed in the video. “I work with kids every day.”
The officer called the children’s mom, who was aghast at the presumption of the 911 caller. “I thought it was a joke,” Mango tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “I said, ‘Is it because there’s an African-American male driving my kids around?’ and the officer, who was embarrassed and apologetic, said, ‘It appears so.’”
A representative from the Cobb County Police Department did not return Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment. The term babysitting while black is being used on Twitter to describe the incident.
Mango said the experience frightened her children. “My son said, ‘The woman followed us because we have peachy skin and Mr. Lewis has brown skin, and she thought he was kidnapping us.’ They were both fearful that Corey wouldn’t be able to babysit them anymore.”
Lewis, who works with a diverse set of children each day, tells Yahoo Lifestyle, “A black man with white children just didn’t look right in this woman’s eyes.”

‘Emotional support’ squirrel gets passenger removed from Frontier flight
A woman was removed from a Frontier Airlines flight Tuesday night after the airline refused to let her fly with her emotional support squirrel.
The airline said the woman noted in her reservation for Flight 1612 from Orlando, Fla., to Cleveland that she would be boarding with an emotional support animal, FOX8 Cleveland reported.

But she never indicated the animal was a squirrel, the airline said, adding that rodents, including squirrels, are not allowed on its flights. Beginning Nov. 1, Frontier will allow only dogs and cats on its flights as emotional support animals.
The passenger was told of the airline policy and refused to leave the plane when asked. Orlando police were called and everyone was forced to deplane.
The woman was escorted off the plane and the flight proceeded.
Some airlines have cracked down on what animals qualify as emotional support pets. In January, Delta Airlines said it would thoroughly vet passengers’ efforts to fly with various types of animals.
“Customers have attempted to fly with comfort turkeys, gliding possums known as sugar gliders, snakes, spiders and more,” Delta said in a news release.
In comparison to cats and dogs, emotional support squirrels haven’t gotten the same level of acceptance.
In Florida, a man was evicted from his condominium because the squirrel didn’t qualify as an emotional support pet.

Little Caesars says it wasn’t serving DiGiorno pizza in viral video that confused millions
USA TODAY caught up with Vincent Romero, the customer whose viral video had some people wondering if Little Caesars was serving DiGiorno frozen pizzas at one Indiana location. USA TODAY
A viral video showing a shopping cart full of DiGiorno frozen pizzas at a Little Caesars location led many to believe that the chain was serving DiGiorno, but Little Caesars says that’s not the case.
When Little Caesars investigated, the company found the video was shot at an Indiana Kmart, spokeswoman Jill Proctor told USA TODAY in an emailed statement Tuesday. Kmart was in the process of disposing of expired DiGiorno pizzas when the video was shot, Proctor said.
A manager had directed an employee to temporarily store the pizzas in a cooler next to the Little Caesars location, Proctor wrote. The store had learned the pizzas were expired close to closing time and planned to dispose of them in the morning.
“Of course, Little Caesars only serves freshly baked pizzas made from fresh dough. After some investigating, it turns out that what appeared in this video was a funny coincidence,” Proctor said in a statement.

Kanye West to Visit Trump This Week to Discuss Prison Reform, Violence
Kanye West will meet with President Donald Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner at the White House on Thursday.
West will have lunch with the President at the White House and meet with Kushner, according to White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders. The New York Times first reported news of the meeting.
West’s visit to the White House falls in line with Kushner’s efforts at criminal justice reform. West hopes to discuss two key issues during his visit at the White House: job opportunities for ex-convicts and ways to increase manufacturing jobs in and around his hometown of Chicago.
Other topics of discussion will include prison reform, how to prevent gang violence and reducing violence in Chicago, Sanders said.
West’s visit follows two visits by his wife Kim Kardashian West, who has met with Trump at the White House and successfully secured a presidential pardon for a woman who was serving a life sentence in prison over non-violent drug charges.
The visit comes after West stoked controversy by wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat during an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and delivering a pro-Trump speech on set.
