Officer caught on camera kicking suspect resigns, is hired by other police department

News & Info

BRECKENRIDGE HILLS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Woodson Terrace police officer who was caught on camera kicking a suspect in the head recently resigned and was hired by another police department, News 4 has learned.

Dash cam video showed the sergeant kicking a suspect after he surrendered. The incident happened near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Ogden in north St. Louis County in April.

News 4 learned the officer resigned days before an internal affairs review but was recently hired by Breckenridge Hills police.

Woodson Terrace police say they can’t investigate further because the officer resigned, but the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office said the US Attorney’s office and FBI are looking in the matter.

Breckenridge Hills Police Chief John Griffin would not confirm if he has seen the video but said the officer was certified, and that his hiring was approved by the city council. Griffin added that the officer’s record is clean, giving him no reason not to hire him.

The officer has not been charged in connection with the incident.

The Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training Department, which regulates police officer’s licenses, said any police department must contact them within 30 days after an officer left and must detail the reason why.

Any police department considering hiring an officer has access to that information.

Daycare worker charged with killing 4-month-old girl who wouldn’t stop crying

News & Info

(Meredith) — A 19-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly suffocated a baby girl at a daycare center in Delaware.

Dejoynay Ferguson was charged Friday with first-degree murder in connection with the 4-month-old’s death, the Delaware State Police said in a statement.

On Thursday, troopers and medical personnel responded to a call about an unresponsive infant at the Little People Child Development Center in Bear.

Ferguson allegedly placed her hands over the girl’s mouth and nose to intentionally restrict her breathing when she wouldn’t stop crying, according to court documents obtained by The News Journal.

After the baby became unresponsive, police said Ferguson placed her back into a crib. About 20 minutes later, Ferguson told the owner of the daycare the baby was unresponsive.

Medics transported the infant to Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said Ferguson was the child’s assigned caregiver. She is currently being held on a $1,000,000 cash bail at the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.

As a result of the incident, the state has suspended the daycare’s license indefinitely.

Florida Man Throws Urine on Prosecutor in Courtroom, Yells ‘He Told Me to Do It!’

News & Info

Police say a 28-year-old man awaiting sentencing on an attempted murder charge tossed urine on the prosecutor inside a Florida courtroom.

The attack happened Wednesday in Broward Circuit Judge Susan Alspector’s courtroom. Albert Narvaez is now also charged with battery for his attack on Broward Assistant State Attorney Andrew Newman.

A Broward Sheriff’s arrest report says urine went inside Newman’s mouth and all over his clothing. The report didn’t say what kind of container Narvaez used to store the urine in the courtroom.

The Miami Herald reports Narvaez charged at Newman, flung the urine at him and yelled, “He told me to do it!” He didn’t say who he was referring to.

The sentencing hearing was postponed.

Chief Assistant State Attorney Jeff Marcus said they’re “absolutely incensed” by the incident.

73-year-old woman gives birth to twins, believed to be the oldest person to ever give birth

News & Info

ANDHRA PRADESH, India — A 73-year-old woman in India has given birth to twin girls.

Erramatti Mangayamma, a farmer from the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, is believed to be the oldest person ever to give birth.

She became pregnant through IVF and doctors delivered the babies via caesarian section Thursday.

“The surgery went well … the mother and the babies are all healthy with no complications,” Dr. Sanakayyala Umashankar, the director of Ahalya IVF, who performed the C-section, told CNN.

Mangayamma and her husband, 80-year-old E. Raja Rao, have been married since 1962 but had never been able to conceive naturally. They approached Umashankar in 2018 and, after preliminary tests were promising, the doctor agreed to give them one round of IVF treatment.

Given Mangayamma’s age, the doctors performed a C-section and will keep her under observation for the next 21 days.

“We are not allowing the mother to breastfeed and the babies will be fed through the milk bank,” Umashankar said.

Rao, 80, has already begun making plans for his daughter, said Umashankar. And for Mangayamma, it is a new lease of life at the age of 73,he said.

“She is very confident now. More confident than ever in her life and she is looking forward to the next chapter of her life with the kids,” Umashankar added.

IT Chapter Two Review (Spoilers)

Actors, News & Info

Pennywise will probably go down as one of the most famous horror movie icons of all time. Following the release of the first IT back in 2017 we now have the second and final part; IT Chapter 2 which takes place 27 years after the Loser’s first encounter with Pennywise otherwise known as IT.

Let me first say that as far as casting goes, the adult actors were spot on in maintaining the characteristics from their younger counterparts. The stand outs to me were Bill Hader as Richie, James Ransone as Eddie and Isaiah Mustafah as Mike. All three did fantastic performances! I also can’t forget Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise who once again does an amazing job!

The movie over all has a good balance of horror, drama and comedy. Specifically like in the dinner scene when they’re all reminiscing about their childhood only for it to turn into a nightmare when their fortune cookies release horrifying monsters. Or when each of the losers encounters Pennywise while on their solo journey to remember all of their child hood. Everything from Richies slick comments to Eddie’s fears of getting sick.

The scares were definitely interesting also as they made sure to use more than just Pennywise for scares such as Mrs. Kersh for Beverage or the leper for Eddie. They cranked up the jump scares as well in several scenes but it never feels like a cheap scare tactic.

Just like with the book there are several key sad moments as well such as in the beginning with Stan ultimately commits suicide rather than to face IT again or with the death of Eddie when he dies in the final confrontation with IT. These two along with Stan’s final letter to his friends will definitely make you shed a tear.

All in all this feels like a solid conclusion to me. My only gripe is that there was no resolution with Bills wife and Beverly’s husband. But other than that I absolutely loved this movie; a solid 9 out of 10!

Hernandez, through belches and fits of laughter, described both herself and her car to the dispatcher while claiming she was following a drunk driver, according to a police affidavit.

Hernandez tried to run away on foot after spotting officers, then struggled during the arrest. She was so intoxicated, documents state, that she had to be restrained and forcibly taken to the hospital for a blood draw.

Michigan mom buys iPhone from online seller, ends up with 2 bars of soap and loses $450

News & Info

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Samantha Powell is a local mom who says she was just trying to buy her daughter an iPhone, when she ended up getting scammed.

A few weeks ago, Powell says she made a deal with a “seller” on the app ‘LetGo’. They communicated on the app and agreed on a price of $450.

Powell says she had saved money for 6 months in order to buy her daughter an iPhone before school started.

She agreed to meet the “seller” at an apartment complex in Allen Park. She had gone there with her husband, but when they exchanged the money and the iPhone box,

Powell says the “seller” took off running. Her husband opened the box and found no iPhone, just two bars of soap.

Powell told 7 Action News, “When he opened it, we were both dumbfounded. We were just staring at it: Did that just happen?”

She says they tried going after the “seller” but she was gone.

They called police and also filed a police report. Powell says she heard the “seller” even went on Facebook and bragged about what she had done.

“She was pretty much saying haha thinking that she wasn’t going to get caught,” she says.

But she may not be laughing now. Powell says the 18-year-old “seller” used a fake name on ‘LetGo’, but had provided her phone number for the sale. That’s how police were able to figure out who she is.

Powell says that “seller” is an 18 year-old woman. Police say she has been ticketed and if she doesn’t show up for court, a warrant will be issued for her arrest.

Meanwhile, Powell says she hopes her story will help remind others to meet up at a police department for such a transaction. She has since gotten her daughter an iPhone off Craigslist. She said she met the seller at a local police department and had no problem.

R. Kelly’s daughter says she doesn’t have a relationship with him

Music, News & Info

“People (want) to work with me to spite him or people (don’t want) to work with me just because of who he is,” Buku Abi said of pursuing her own music career.

NEW YORK — For a long time, Buku Abi ran away from pursuing music.

Although she is the daughter of one of pop music’s most popular and successful singer-songwriters, her father is also among the most infamous: He is R. Kelly, currently in jail, facing multiple charges of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.

“I think you get to see a different side of it than somebody who sees it from the outside and gets to see the glitz and glam. I got to see the hell part of it,” said 21-year-old Abi, born Joann Kelly, in a recent interview with The Associated Press. “I didn’t want to be in the industry.”

Even before she was born, her father was under scrutiny for his interactions with young women: He had secretly married his then-protege, Aaliyah, when the late R&B sensation was just 15 in 1994. But by the time Abi was a child, while Kelly was still a multiplatinum star raking up hit after hit, he was also on trial, accused of child pornography (he would eventually be acquitted in 2008).

Abi said going to public school for the first time as an early teen was challenging — there she heard stories about her father that she had not heard before.

“At home it’s normal, you’re living a life with your parents; your dad and mom aren’t going to go into all the bad things that might be going on outside of home,” she said, “but kids in school don’t necessarily care. Fifth and sixth grade is when I started learning the sore part of it, the not so good part. I think that was the hardest part for me because for so long I went with this image of who my dad (was) and what my family (was).”

Things were so bad in school, she even contemplated suicide. But though school is where her life almost ended, it’s also where she felt it truly began: She recalls singing onstage in high school during a performance, which she said “literally felt like drugs.”

“I needed more of this,” she added. “Clearly I can’t keep running from this anymore. Ever since then, I’ve been in it and it’s literally saved my life.”

Entering the music business comes with a different challenge for Abi: She can’t escape the fact that R. Kelly is her father. She is no longer in touch with him and says being his daughter is like “a double-edged sword.”

“I definitely run across challenges — people wanting to work with me to spite him or people not wanting to work with me just because of who he is,” she said. “I’ve definitely come across turmoil … being judged for really no reason at all, just based off associations. I’ve been pushing through it. Me making the art, it saved my life so there’s nothing really that would be able to stop me.”

Abi decided not to use the name her parents gave her in her career. She settled on the stage name Buku Abi about three years ago after first going by the name Ariirayé. In the last five years she’s been hard at work on her debut EP, “Don’t Call Me,” released this March. Her sister Jaah Kelly produced the album, which echoes SZA and other millennial artists in the alternative R&B world.

When it comes to making music, she doesn’t deny that’s where she and her father connect: “There’s a lot about him as an artist that inspires me.”

“He has made mistakes in his life and other things that he’s dealing with, but when it comes to that, I can’t take that away from him,” she said. “That’s the one thing that will always keep us connected.”

Abi once thought she and her father would mend things. Under her former stage name Ariirayé, she collaborated with him on the song “Wanna Be There,” a plea to restore their broken relationship. It appears on his 2015 album, “The Buffet.”

“When you conquer the world I just wanna be there/But no matter how successful baby girl/When you need someone to lean on I just wanna be your shoulder,” R. Kelly sings to Abi on the song.

“At that time I was in a place where I was genuinely trying to have a relationship with my father,” she said. “But it was so complicated at that time, as it always is. It was a great experience, I’m glad that I did it, but it just wasn’t like what everybody assumed, and that’s the part that sucks. It wasn’t this big kumbaya moment.”

R. Kelly is currently in a Chicago jail. He pleaded not guilty in federal court to charges that he sexually abused women and girls who attended his concerts there. He has been accused of using his fame to recruit young women and girls into illegal sexual activity, and has also been charged in Chicago and Minnesota for separate incidents. While he had been dogged by allegations that he abused women for years (a charge he denies), scrutiny from January’s highly rated Lifetime documentary “Surviving R. Kelly,” which detailed multiple allegations against him, led to new investigations and new charges (among his legal troubles is also a backlog in child support for his children, including Abi).

Abi said she tries not to pay attention to the daily updates about her father: “I don’t let that be a part of my every day (life).”

“(We) don’t have a relationship, so it’s not like me to check in on him,” she said. “I don’t personally go look it all up and read. I keep myself out of it.”

Abi currently lives in Atlanta and appeared on the WEtv reality series “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta” alongside her mother and R. Kelly’s ex-wife, choreographer Drea Kelly.

“Just watching my baby grow into this young woman and be unapologetic about who she is and what she stands for and what she believes, really just being her own artist and owning her artistry and not coming out trying to be or ride the tail of being R. Kelly’s daughter — she’s really going at this alone and that’s what brings her pride,” Drea Kelly said. “I’m elated.”

But Drea Kelly, who was featured in “Surviving R. Kelly” and has accused her former husband of domestic abuse, has also been disheartened by what she sees as the public blaming Abi for Kelly’s alleged misdeeds.

“If your mom has an addiction, should everybody judge you off your mom’s addiction? … Everyone would say no, but then why is it OK for people to do it to my children simply because of who he is?” said Kelly, who has three children with the singer. “I’ve taught Buku, I’ve taught all my children … you don’t wait for the world to give you a shot, you go out there and take your shot.”

Abi says the foul words she heard in school that almost caused her to end her life has prepared her for what’s to come: “Growing up has given me an armor, almost.”

“I just want people to know that, at the end of the day, the stereotypes that you may have for other people, whether it be about race, sexuality, their financial status, don’t judge a book by its cover because nine times out of 10 you’re completely wrong,” she said. “I want to be an example of that.”

Actor Cuba Gooding Jr.’s sex abuse trial has been delayed

Actors, News & Info

Cuba Gooding Jr.’s sex abuse trial, expected to start on Tuesday in New York City, has been pushed back to October 10.

Gooding’s defense team had been ready for trial, but prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Officeargued for a later start, Gooding’s lawyer, Mark Heller, said. The parties had failed to come to an agreement before Tuesday’s hearing on the trial date.

Gooding is charged with forcible touching and sex abuse in the third degree related to an alleged groping incident in June. Both charges are misdemeanors. A 29-year-old woman filed a police report claiming Gooding grabbed her breast at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge in Manhattan. Gooding has denied the claim and pleaded not guilty.

The actor voluntarily surrendered to New York police for questioning in June and was released on his own recognizance. The woman told police she was with friends when she was confronted by a male patron whom she described as Gooding, a law enforcement source told CNN.

“The male allegedly groped her breasts,” the source said. “The victim later told cops she protested at the unwanted touching and they argued about the encounter.” The woman left the bar and called 911 to report the alleged incident, the law enforcement source said, and NYPD Manhattan Special Victims Squad investigated.

Gooding’s attorney has said video footage taken at the bar that night will clear his client. “There is not a scintilla of criminal culpability that can be attributed to Mr. Cuba Gooding Jr. after I have extensively, with my staff, reviewed the video of almost two hours which reflects the entire event,” Heller told reporters in June. “I am totally confident that when a jury of Cuba Gooding Jr.’s peers assess all of the exculpatory evidence in this case, that he will be totally exonerated,” Heller added last month.

News & Info

Chanel Miller has revealed herself as the victim of Stanford swimmer Brock Turner. “In newspapers, my name was ‘unconscious, intoxicated woman.’ Ten syllables and nothing more than that,” she told “60 Minutes” in an episode airing Sunday, Sept. 22. Turner was found guilty of sexual assault in 2016, but a judge sentenced him to just six months in jail, of which he only served three months.
