Online toilet paper calculator developed to tell you just how long your supply will last

News & Info

As households continue to stock up on toilet paper — emptying shelves across the country — a new website is attempting to answer the question: How much TP do we really need?

Howmuchtoiletpaper.com is a website created by student software developer Ben Sassoon and artist Sam Harris, both based in London, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The tool calculates just how long your stash of TP will last you during a quarantine.

The idea came to them naturally, while talking about how much toilet paper they used, and how that would change during the pandemic.

Thus, the website was born.

The layout is simple. Users enter how many rolls of toilet paper they have and how many times they visit the loo.

If you scroll to the “Advanced Options” section, you can really get detailed, customizing the average number of wipes per trip, the number of sheets per wipe, sheets on the roll, and people in the house.

More than 2 million people have used the tool, the website says, and the average user has a whopping 500% more toilet paper than they need for quarantine.

The whole point of the tool is to reduce the toilet paper shortage around the world, which has begun as folks panic-buy rolls out of fear of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Not everyone is able to get to a store and stock up on toilet roll. Don’t be selfish,” the website says bluntly.

Demand for toilet paper has jumped

The sudden high demand of toilet paper has resulted in the industry working hard to meet the raised need, said the American Forest & Paper Association, an industry group representing paper product makers.

Last week, some orders from retailers nearly doubled, said Georgia Pacific, which makes Angel Soft and Quilted Northern toilet paper. The company shipped 20% more than its normal capacity.

Meanwhile, retailers in the US and Canada have begun limiting the number of toilet paper packs customers can buy in a single trip.

Police investigate ‘disturbing’ video of teens coughing on produce

News & Info

PURCELLVILLE, Va. (KRON) – Police in Virginia are warning of a “disturbing trend” after a group of teens were caught on camera coughing on produce at a grocery store, then posting it on social media.

This all comes amid the growing coronavirus pandemic, which continues to spread across the United States and around the world.

“We have learned that this appears to be a disturbing trend on social media across the country, and we ask for help from parents to discourage this behavior immediately,” Purcellville police said in a Facebook post Thursday.

“We are asking for parental assistance in monitoring your teenagers’ activities, as well as their social media posts to avoid the increase of any further such incidents.”

Specific incidents were not detailed by police, but authorities urged parents to “talk with your children and explain to them why such behavior is wrong.”

The grocery store, which was not mentioned by name, removed the tainted fruits and vegetables, police said.

None of the teens have been arrested.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University’s real time map, there were more than 19,000 coronavirus cases in the US with 260 deaths reported as of Saturday morning.

COVID-19 testing begins Saturday at Tacoma Dome for at-risk population, healthcare workers

Health, News & Info

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — People at higher risk at COVID-19, health care workers and community members on the frontlines of the crisis can be tested for the virus starting Saturday morning at the Tacoma Dome.

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is holding five-day drive-thru testing starting Saturday morning.

In addition to healthcare workers, the department said people working in “critical infrastructure” will be eligible for COVID-19 tests, including grocery store workers, people in homeless shelters, restaurant workers, gas station clerks and public utilities employees.

“Healthcare workers, first responders and people who provide critical infrastructure are on the frontlines of helping residents in need during this public health emergency,” said Jessica Gehle, incident commander for the Health Department’s COVID-19 response. “It’s vital we prioritize this testing for them to ensure they are able to protect the health of our communities.”

Health officials said people over 60, people with underlying health conditions and pregnant woman can be tested at the Tacoma Dome. Testing is intended for people who have symptoms—fever, cough and shortness of breath.

“We want to continue to ensure we do what we can to slow the disease spread in our community,” Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier said. “We are pleased to work with the City of Tacoma, the Health Department, and our state and federal partners to make more testing available for our residents.”

Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, which is operating the site, requires people to complete an online survey to find out if they’re eligible for testing and to register.

Qualifying people will receive a testing identifier number to present at the site. All people must arrive in a vehicle and provide a valid government-issued photo identification. The test is completed using a nasal swab while participants remain in their vehicles. People who arrive without proper testing identification will not get tested.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency provided 8,000 test kits to Washington state earlier this week. A limited number of COVID-19 tests will be available for the five-day event

The health department said more options for COVID-19 testing continue to become available.

A follower said: ‘you can’t deny she is a better woman because her daughter his her purpose, Joseline really leveled up when she became a mum.’

Someone else posted this: ‘this is what most do so they don’t have to pay child support!!! Or they will try to file for joint custody,’ and a follower wrote: ‘why is it sad that a father has custody of his child…. y’all sound bitter.’

One commenter posted this: ‘so a good mother would lie and say her father was touching her,’ and a person posted: ‘Okay but this made me tear up a little hearing the hurt in her voice was sad.?’

One commenter said: ‘Poor Joseline, Stevie is so weird. He is obsessive over these women. Move on with faith.’

Another follower of TSR wrote: ‘I love Joseline, but this season she’s more self-reflecting & we get to see more of HER rather than her & STEVIE. Without him, I see why his concerns were towards her as a mother, but that doesn’t make her a BAD MOTHER.’

Someone else had this to say: ‘FYI: This was taped a while ago, they currently have joint custody.’

A fan responded with: ‘That man still has full custody he said joint not to make her look bad she can’t have full custody she is going a lot with her shows and clubbing still you can see that how many times do you see her with Bonnie, Stevie always have Bonnie and posting her she dies see her but he still has full custody with him she is with siblings and a better environment for now maybe when Jose settle down more she can get her baby back full custody and I’m not about to argue with nobody because it is what it is.’

What do you think about the situation between these two?

Why there will soon be tons of toilet paper, and what food may be scarce, according to supply chain experts

Health, News & Info

Stuck rationing toilet paper because you didn’t stockpile during the coronavirus panic over the last few days? Don’t worry, according to supply chain experts.

“All the grocery stores are going to have pallets of toilet paper sitting in the aisles, and nobody is going to buy it, because who needs to buy toilet paper when you’ve got a year’s worth sitting in your garage?” Daniel Stanton, a supply chain expert and author of “Supply Chain Management for Dummies,” tells CNBC Make It.

But what about food?

Even if the COVID-19 pandemic stretches over months (President Donald Trump said it could last until August), there will be no big food shortages, especially on staples like milk, eggs, cheese, bread and meat, according to three supply chain experts who spoke to Make It.

But your favorite brand or the exact kind of fruit you want could be scarce.

“The brand that you normally want may not be available. But, hey, there’s some other kind of pasta. Or instead of rice, we’re going to have potatoes for dinner,” Stanton says.

“The U.S. produces a huge amount of food. We’re also an exporter of food, so we’re going to be okay,” he adds.

Many food manufacturers have been adjusting their production lines for social distancing and have increased cleaning to ensure workers’ safety in recent weeks, experts say.

With that in mind, here are the few kinds of products that might actually be harder to find.

Specialty items

Specialty items like imported pastas and wines from Italy, cheeses from France or other niche food products from countries overseas or smaller businesses may be impacted, says Anantha Iyer, senior associate dean in supply chain and operations management at Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management.

These kinds of items may not go out of stock permanently, but it could “get a little tricky,” Iyer tells Make It.

“Some ingredients for nearshore specialty things could get shut off because they can’t come across the border,” Stanton says.

Brandon Hernandez, a supply chain expert and partner at Whole Brain Consulting, who works with specialty brands in the U.S., agrees.

“I think the major items of concern are more tied towards raw materials or packaging coming out of China that support the broader food chain,” Hernandez tells Make It, explaining that China is an important exporter to the U.S. and provides things like quinoa and spices.

Because the pandemic may encourage higher scrutiny of exports, that “could potentially slow down the supply chain,” he says.

As for U.S. specialty products, Hernandez doesn’t foresee a “complete collapse in things like [protein] bars or all the [specialty] chips are going to be gone or anything like that,” but the items may not restock as quickly.

Certain fruits and vegetables

Iyer says Americans may just have to be “a little flexible” on certain types of fruits and vegetables they want to buy in the coming months.

“If you don’t see one type of fruit, you may have to buy another type of fruit,” he says.

That’s because some kinds of produce are imported from other countries, so there may be delays in shipping if ports begin to close.

Hernandez agrees it is possible that Americans could see gaps in availability.

“I’m not saying that it’s impossible that you won’t see bananas become scarce or strawberries in the back half of the year, because they shift from California production to Mexico production.”

“Maybe it’s possible, but it really depends on what they decide to impose at the borders from the [Food and Drug Administration] and the [United States Department of Agriculture] standpoint,” Hernandez says.

Overall, however, Stanton believes many domestic farmers and ranchers, who have been struggling in recent years, could actually see a boost amid the pandemic, as the U.S. may look to local suppliers for produce instead of international suppliers.

Fetty Wap Ordered To Pay Ex-Employee $1.1M & Help Restore Her Reputation

News & Info, Our posts

Fetty Wap has been ordered to pay a former tour staffer over $1.1 million for defamation and breach of contract.

According to Bossip, Shawna Morgan sued the rapper and his Goodfella4life Entertainment company for not reimbursing her thousands of dollars in touring costs after 2017. While Morgan was supposed to be paid between five and 10 percent of Fetty’s performance profits, she was regularly expected to cover up-front touring expenses, which Fetty was supposed to reimburse.

Besides owing Morgan upwards of $242,000, Fetty also publicly claimed that she had stolen money from him and was double-dipping by charging both Goodfella4life Entertainment and their clients. Morgan fired back against his alleged slander with her lawsuit, claiming that Fetty had damaged her business reputation.

A judge initially sided with Morgan because Fetty didn’t respond to the suit. However, he appealed to have the case reinstated, and he and Morgan went to arbitration, where he was ordered to pay her $160,000. Rather than pay the ordered amount, Fetty demanded that the suit be taken to trial, where the jury ultimately sided with Morgan and added over $800,000 to his tab.

Along with paying $1.1 million for defamation and breach of contract, Fetty is also required to issue retractions for press outlets that reported his false claims, post public retractions on his social media accounts and take out ad space in “prominent entertainment publications” to restore Morgan’s name.

So far, the rapper hasn’t posted any redacting statements on his social media profiles. This past Valentine’s Day (February 14), he released his seven-track Trap & B EP.

Netflix, director sued over Central Park 5 series

Actors, Documentary, News & Info
Former Manhattan prosecutor was portrayed by Felicity Huffman in ‘When They See Us’

Former Manhattan prosecutor Linda Fairstein has sued Netflix and film director Ava DuVernay over her portrayal in the streaming service’s miniseries about the Central Park Five case, which sent five black and Latino teenagers to prison for a crime they were later absolved of committing.

Fairstein claims in the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in federal court in Fort Myers, Florida, that the four-part series “When They See Us” defamed her by portraying her as a “racist, unethical villain.”

“Most glaringly, the film series falsely portrays Ms. Fairstein as in charge of the investigation and prosecution of the case against the five, including the development of the prosecution’s theory of the case,” Fairstein’s lawyer, Andrew Miltenberg, said in a statement. “In truth, and as detailed in the lawsuit, Ms. Fairstein was responsible for neither aspect of the case.”

Fairstein was the top Manhattan sex crimes prosecutor in 1989 when the five teenagers were charged with a vicious attack on a jogger in Central Park. The convictions were overturned in 2002 after convicted murderer and serial rapist Matias Reyes confessed to committing the crime alone. DNA linked him to it.

Fairstein, who became a best-selling crime author after retiring from the Manhattan district attorney’s office, observed the boys’ interrogation but didn’t personally try the case.

Fairstein was dropped by her publisher and resigned from several boards she served on after “When They See Us,” which dramatizes the events surrounding the trial, debuted last year.

Netflix called Fairstein’s lawsuit “frivolous” and said in a statement, “We intend to vigorously defend ‘When They See Us’ and Ava DuVernay and Attica Locke, the incredible team behind the series.”

Emails seeking comment were sent to a representative for DuVernay and to Locke, a writer and producer of the series who was named as a defendant in the lawsuit.
