Video captures mom whipping son with belt for stealing her BMW
A Texas high school freshman went on a joyride in his mom’s spanking-new BMW, but his badass mom chased him down — and whupped him with a belt, in a caught-on-video scene that has since gone viral.
Aaron Campero, 14, of El Paso, disconnected the WiFi in his home to disable security cameras before he took off in the BMW on Friday, his sister Liza Campero wrote on Twitter.
“I shouldn’t be laughing but damn,” she said.
Their mother, also named Liza, was at work when Aaron called to tell her their WiFi was down at home, KFOX-TV reported.
As soon as he said that, literally, I got a message instantly that my WiFi was down,” she told the station.
The Beemer bandit first drove the car to pick up his best friend, whose mother informed Aaron’s mom about his whereabouts, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Aaron’s sister also called their mother to tell her the BMW 3 Series was gone.
“That’s when she told me to grab the belt and I really just ran into the closet and grabbed the first belt I saw,” she said. “She wanted to find him before he wrecked the car and before the police did.”
The boy eventually aborted his ill-fated plan to visit his girlfriend, who was at home with her mom when Campero arrived.
According to his sister’s video, their mother pulled up next to Aaron and screamed, “Pull over now!”
She then stepped out of her car, flung open the BMW’s driver’s door and unleashed on the boy.
“My mom said once she opened the door, he had a smirk on his face until she started spanking him,” Liza said.
The mother said she didn’t know her daughter was recording the beatdown.
“It’s my son’s well-being, his livelihood, his best friend’s well-being, not to mention all of the people on the roadways,” the mom told KFOX-TV.
The video, which was posted on Twitter, had gained more than 41,000 retweets and about 144,000 likes by Thursday morning.
“I feel that I have a debt to society and my debt to society is to make sure my children are productive, law-abiding citizens,” Martinez said.
In addition to the public flogging, Aaron has been grounded “until 2019 or further notice,” his sis said.

Shirtless dad, son arrested for gunning down neighbor in trash fight
A west Texas man was gunned down by his two shirtless neighbors – in a shocking confrontation recorded by the victim’s girlfriend, according to a broadcast report on Wednesday.
Aaron Howard, 37, was killed on Sept. 1 in Abilene, allegedly by father-and-son neighbors Johnnie and Michael Miller, authorities said.
They’ve both been arrested and charged with murder.
The deadly confrontation was caught on the cellphone of Howard’s fiancée, Kara Box, who shared the video with KTXS.
“People deserve to know what actually happened,” Box told the ABC affiliate.
The three men were arguing over a dumped mattress in an alley behind Howard’s house on Don Juan Street in Abilene, according to the video.
The dad, Johnnie Miller, 67, was holding a pistol while Michael Miller, 31, had a shotgun, KTXS reported.
“If you come closer to me, I’m gonna kill you,” the elder Miller reportedly could be heard yelling at Howard.
And amazingly, Howard didn’t back down.
“Hey, did you hear him say he’s going to kill me?” the victim told his filming fiancée.
Howard then barked at his two armed neighbors to leave the scene, according to the report.
“Put the gun up and go inside!” Howard yelled.
Box tried to intervene and told the father and son: “You’re not going to shoot my husband.”
The men kept arguing, and at least two pistol shots were fired by the dad, Box told the station.
Her video captured the sound of the pistol fire but not any images of Johnnie Miller shooting.
Box did capture Michael Miller opening fire with his shotgun.
Taylor County DA Jim Hicks said the video could be key evidence.
“Video evidence like this is always graphic and very difficult to watch,” Hicks said in an interview on the station. “But, it is consistent with the charges.”
The father and son have been charged with first-degree murder. Both are out on $25,000 bail, KTXS reported.

Day care owner accused of keeping babies tied to car seats
MESQUITE, Texas — The owner of a Dallas-area in-home day care center has been jailed on child endangerment charges after she was accused of keeping infants and toddlers tied to their car seats for hours.
An arrest warrant affidavit alleges that Rebecca Anderson kept the small children tied up in car seats for at least seven hours a day at her Mesquite, Texas, day care center, Becky’s Home Child Care. The affidavit also says the 60-year-old woman yanked a 6-month-old child by the bib around his neck, tying laces around the young children’s necks to limit their movement and giving them acetaminophen to quiet them.
She was booked Sunday night into the Dallas County jail on nine counts of child endangerment with bonds totaling $45,000. Jail records list no attorney for her.

Dad beat baby nearly to death because she ‘kept falling’ while learning to walk
A Texas dad accused of nearly beating his baby girl to death was allegedly punishing her for falling while learning to walk, according to officials.
Anthony Williams, of El Paso, remained in custody Tuesday for allegedly causing life-threatening injuries to his 1-year-old daughter, according to the El Paso Police Department.
Police said they responded to a family violence call at Williams’ home Friday morning and found the baby unresponsive. The little girl was then brought to University Medical Center for treatment.
The 27-year-old reportedly told police that he “struck” the baby multiple times “because she kept falling while he was ‘teaching’ her to walk.”
Williams was arrested the same day and faces charges for injury to a child. He was booked into El Paso Detention Facility, where his bond is set at $750,000.
Man allegedly strangled wife to save her from going to jail over new car debt
A northeast Houston man told police he murdered his wife because he did not want her to go to jail if she could not pay for her new car.
Francisco Olazaran, 67, is charged with the murder of his wife, Maria Olazaran, 63. The medical examiner ruled she died from manual strangulation.
According to Houston police, on the morning of July 4, when the city was getting hammered by rain, Francisco walked into Sand Dollar Thrift Store on Harrisburg in east Houston and said his wife, who was sitting in the car, had just been choked and robbed by three men.
An employee called for help. Police say Francisco repeated that same story to them and then changed it.
According to court documents, he said his wife had just traded in an older car for a newer one. He didn’t have a job. Maria, he said, didn’t make much money working for Walmart, and he was worried she could not afford the car payments.
“The defendant stated that morning he killed the complainant because he did not want her to go to jail over the debt,” a prosecutor read from documents during Francisco’s first court appearance on July 5. “He stated that he did not want her to go to jail and that he preferred for her to die.”
An investigator told Eyewitness News the couple had been married for many years. The victim, a mother and grandmother, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Francisco’s charges were upgraded to murder on Saturday.
He is being held in jail on an $80,000 bond and, as a Mexican National who has lived in the United States for 15 years, must surrender his passport if he posts it.
Francisco is expected in court on Tuesday.

Man who posed as high school athlete accused of relationship with teen
A 25-year-old Texas man who allegedly posed as a high school student is accused of kissing and touching a teen girl and propositioning her for sex before he was caught, police said.
Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley, 25, was charged Friday with indecency with a child. He’s accused of dating a 14-year-old girl while posing as a 17-year-old boy at Hillcrest High School. The girl was a freshman at the high school and met Gilstrap-Portley through a friend, the Dallas Morning-News reported, citing an arrest affidavit.
The girl knew Gilstrap-Portley under the name Rashaun Richardson, police said. A mutual friend told Gilstrap-Portley she was a year older than him and liked him, which led to the two exchanging Snapchat information, according to the Morning-News.
The relationship eventually progressed and Gilstrap-Portley asked the teen to kiss him and she did, the newspaper reported, citing the affidavit. The man allegedly then took the teen and her nephew to a park. He reportedly stayed in a car with the girl, and is accused of kissing her and touching her breasts over her clothing.
Gilstrap-Portley asked the girl to have sex, but she declined, the newspaper reported.
The mother of the 14-year-old girl told FOX4 News in May her daughter told her Gilstrap-Portley kissed and touched her but didn’t have a sexual relationship with her.
“He was popular. A lot of the girls liked him and he was giving her attention, though,” the mother told the station.
The woman never suspected Gilstrap-Portley of posing as a younger man until a detective approached her in May about the possibility of him wanting to relive his high school athletic career, she told the Morning-News
Gilstrap-Portley was arrested in May and charged with felony tampering with government documents for filing false enrollment records. He graduated from North Mesquite High School in 2011.
Man pleads guilty to beating girlfriend to pulp over Snapchat
A Texas man pleaded guilty to beating his teenage girlfriend to a pulp for downloading the Snapchat app, according to reports.
Dameon Marmolejo, 21, appeared in Lubbock County court Monday morning on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the grisly attack, EverythingLubbock reported.
Prosecutors said Marmolejo attacked 18-year-old Solidad Torres at her home in June 2017 after realizing she had a Snapchat message on her phone.
The girlfriend told police they had met through Snapchat, but she deleted the app when he accused her of cheating.
Torres said he became angry when the message flashed on her phone screen and slapped her across the face for re-downloading the app.
Marmolejo then allegedly threw her to the ground and began to pummel her until she flipped over to protect her head and face. The boyfriend, however, began stomping on her back and head, according to authorities.
She was able to briefly escape to the bathroom, but he forced his way inside and continued to assault her, police said.
He then allegedly slammed her head against the bathtub, leaving her unconscious in a pool of blood, according to news station KCBD.
Following the grisly incident, Torres was hospitalized and required 15 staples on her forehead.
The boyfriend was arrested after authorities matched his sneakers to the bruising pattern on the young woman’s body.
Texas governor scraps shotgun giveaway after school shooting
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has scrapped plans to give away a “Texas-made shotgun“ after a gunman used a shotgun in a Friday rampage that left 10 dead in a high school near Houston.
A spokesman for Abbott, a Republican, said Monday the campaign contest is still active, but the winner will now receive a $250 gift card.
The webpage for the contest has been changed from one featuring the governor holding a shotgun to one without any pictures, now advertising the gift card. The change was made over the weekend, the Abbott spokesman said.
Abbott’s reelection campaign launched the shotgun giveaway contest on May 1, prior to the high school murders in Santa Fe, Texas. The contest quickly caught the eyes of Texas gun control activists, who pressed Abbott over the weekend.
“I find this giveaway deeply disturbing for a number of reasons, chiefly among them the fact that Friday’s shooting at Santa Fe HS was carried out with a shotgun,” Jack Kappelman, a student organizer of Austin’s March For Our Lives affiliate, wrote in an email to POLITICO. Kappelman is a senior at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy, a high school in Austin.
The contest also drew the attention of potential gubernatorial challengers, including Andrew White, who is running in the Democratic primary. White posted a picture on Twitter of an Abbott campaign door hanger that advertised the contest with a picture of a shotgun.
“If nominated on May 22, I won’t have to give away shotguns to get people to vote for me. Can you believe this?“ White wrote.
Abbott has promised “swift” action following last week’s school shooting, including a Tuesday roundtable to discuss next steps.

‘Affluenza Teen’ Ethan Couch Released from Texas Jail After Serving Nearly 2 Years for Probation Violation
Ethan Couch, known for his “affluenza” defense in his deadly drunk driving case, was released from a Texas jail Monday after serving nearly two years behind bars for violating his probation.
Couch, 20, first made headlines as a teenager when he was sentenced to probation for a drunken driving crash that killed four people and seriously injured two others.
Prosecutors in that 2013 case sought 20 years in jail, but Couch received no prison time after a psychologist testified that Couch was a victim of “affluenza,” a product of wealthy, privileged parents who never set limits for him.
The decision by the juvenile court judge to put him on probation for 10 years outraged victims’ families and anti-drunk driving advocates.
In 2015, Couch violated the terms of his probation and fled to Mexico with his mother, Tonya Couch. They were found and sent back to the US, where a Texas judge ordered nearly two years of jail time for Couch.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving described the two years Couch has spent in jail as “a grave injustice to the victims and their families.”
“The 720 days Ethan Couch served for his crimes shows that drunk driving homicides still aren’t treated as the violent crimes that they are,” the organization said in a statement.
It vowed to keep monitoring the case because it “brought to light that there is so much more work to be done to hold drunk drivers accountable.”
As part of Couch’s current probation, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor, an alcohol detecting patch, submit to drug testing, abide by a 9 p.m. curfew and have a video interlock ignition device installed in his vehicle, according to Mike Simonds of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.
Couch’s mother is currently facing charges of money laundering and hindering apprehension of a felon for helping her son flee to Mexico. Tonya Couch recently had her bond revoked after failing a drug test and is behind bars in the Tarrant County Jail, the sheriff’s office said last week.
In June 2013, the pickup truck that Couch, then 16, was driving plowed into four pedestrians on a road in Burleson, Texas, authorities had said.
Hollie Boyles, and daughter, Shelby, had left their home to help Breanna Mitchell, whose SUV had broken down. Brian Jennings, a youth pastor, was driving past and also stopped to help. They were all killed.
Two people riding in the bed of the pickup were tossed in the crash and severely injured. One of them suffered a brain injury and filed a lawsuit against the Couch family, which was settled.
Three hours after the crash, tests showed Couch had a blood alcohol content of 0.24, three times the legal limit, according to the district attorney’s office.
Remembering Selena 23 years after her death
Saturday marks 23 years since Tejano star Selena was killed.
She died just a couple weeks shy of her 24th birthday.
Since then, her star has only continued to rise with her memory being commemorated in an array of forms from a MAC makeup collection to rumors a new TV show inspired by the late singer is being developed.
Items bearing her image tend to sell out instantly, which speaks to the hold her influence still has on fans.
We’re celebrating her life with a look at five of the things we still love about Selena.
Her Talent:
Considered the Queen of Tejano, Selena started singing at a young age in her family’s band Selena Y Los Dinos.
Fast forward to 1989 when her self-titled album was released.
She captivated audiences with her vocal range and how she incorporated cumbia dance into her music.
But she also proved she could crossover with ease to any genre.
During what would become her final show before her death, Selena performed a disco medley at the Astrodome in 1995.
Her style:
Nicknamed the Mexican Madonna for her dazzling stage outfits, Selena designed her own costumes.
Who can forget that iconic purple jumpsuit she wore during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo?
From crop tops and boleros to bedazzled bralettes and belt buckles, the star also donned hand-beaded bustiers, including one worn at her 1994 Houston Astrodome Concert.
Selena opened two boutiques, one in Corpus Christi and another in San Antonio.
The stores, equipped with full-scale beauty salons, eventually closed.
Her legacy:
Selena continues to be recognized for her work.
On Nov. 3, 2017, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Los Angeles’ mayor also declared Nov.3 Selena Day.
Fans can explore Selena’s career anytime at the museum built by her family in Corpus Christi.
The Fiesta de la Flor music festival is also held in Corpus Christi.
Her love for her fans:
Fans love Selena, but she also loved them back and not just because they listened to her music.
According to her father Abraham Quintanilla, Selena loved kids and visited schools to tell them how important it was to have an education.
She even had a stay-in-school campaign in 1994.
Today, her family runs the Selena Foundation, which helps children with their education and contribute to their lives personally and professionally.
How her success broke barriers
Selena hit many achievements during her career, including winning the Grammy Award for best Mexican-American album for Live in 1994.
This was the first time a female Tejano artist won the category.
Her 1990 album Ven Conmigo was the first Tejano record to reach gold status, selling 500,000 copies.
Despite her success, Selena also had to overcome the challenge of breaking into the male-dominated industry of Tejano music.
In an interview on her official Twitter page, she said her father had a hard time securing gigs because “many male promoters didn’t think a female artist could attract huge crowds like men do, but…. wrong.”
Her English-language album Dreaming of You was released posthumously. It was a hit, and also inspired the Selena movie.
