Police say criminal charges have been brought against a juvenile in Michigan after an 11-year-old boy killed himself following what the boy’s mother claims was a social media prank.
Authorities in Marquette, Michigan, confirm that charges of malicious use of a telecommunication services and using a computer to commit a crime have been brought against an unidentified juvenile after the boy was found unresponsive from a suicide attempt on March 14.
Marquette police declined to identify either juvenile involved and said only that the boy who died was “engaged in communication with another juvenile via social media prior to the incident.”
However, Katrina Goss tells PEOPLE it was her son Tysen Benz who tried to kill himself that March day – though he did not die until this week.
Goss claims that the charges have been brought against a girl that Tysen knew, who faked her own suicide on social media as a prank and thus triggered her own son’s successful attempt.
Goss says the accused juvenile was Tysen’s girlfriend.

Tysen’s mom says the accused juvenile allegedly faked her own suicide using various social media sites and also allegedly used social media accounts of her friends to circulate the rumor of her suicide.
An hour into her prank, Tysen hung himself, his mom claims. Goss says she found him on March 14 and that emergency response teams managed to resuscitate him. Machines kept Tysen alive for weeks after his suicide attempt, but he died in a hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Tuesday.
“We had to let him pass on,” Goss says. “He was severely brain-damaged and the doctors told us he would never recuperate, that it wasn’t even really him anymore. I was at his bedside for three weeks. We are utterly devastated and we will never get over it.
“He was amazing – an amazing athlete who was super fun and had a great sense of humor. He was extremely social; the whole community is upset.”
Goss alleges that her son contacted the girl’s friends, expressing his thoughts of suicide – but she allegedly kept up the ruse.
“She did nothing to contact me or the authorities,” Goss tells PEOPLE. “I truly don’t know what the point of this prank was. I don’t even know how that’s supposed to be funny, especially if she cared about him at all. I am not sure how that could be a joke. She must have severe psychological issues to go forward with something like that and to keep the joke going even after he told her he was going to kill himself.”
Goss says Tysen will be buried next week following services scheduled for Tuesday. She says she is trying to keep things together for her other sons, ages 10 and 14.
Of the girl whom she claims is responsible, Goss says “she’s intelligent enough to know right from wrong.”
Goss says for months, she tried reaching out to the girl’s father and aunt several times, asking that she cease all communication with her son. But “they blew it off,” she claims.
“He was 11 – little kids don’t need to worry about that stuff,” Goss says. “These kids don’t even think what they’re doing online is real. They don’t comprehend the magnitude of their words and how their actions can impact other people. Parents need to monitor their children’s online activities so things like this don’t happen.”

Maryland teen planned a mass shooting and suicide at her school
THURMONT, Md. (AP) — An 18-year-old student meticulously planned a mass shooting at her high school in which she intended to die, authorities in Maryland said Monday.
A shotgun, ammunition and bomb-making materials including nails and fireworks were found at Nichole Cevario’s home in Thurmont on Thursday, Frederick County Sheriff Charles Jenkins said at a news conference.
There is no evidence that anyone else was involved, Jenkins said.
One of the teen’s parents notified Catoctin High School officials Thursday of a potential threat of violence and Cevario was removed from the classroom and turned over to investigators, the Frederick County sheriff’s office said in a statement. Cevario was later taken from the school to a hospital for an emergency evaluation and remains hospitalized, officials said.
“This attack was prevented by the parents, who stepped forward,” Jenkins said.
Cevario’s journal “clearly spelled out” detailed plans for an attack she had been working on for some time, including a timeline of the attack with her expectations for each stage, officials said. She had set April 5 as the day of the attack, the sheriff said. She was acquiring the materials and compiling details about school emergency procedures associated with drills conducted by school staff and on the school resource deputy.
Cevario’s diary showed “evidence of mental health issues, emotional issues,” Jenkins said. There was no indication that bullying was an issue, but the diary showed “a lot of frustration in her personal life,” Jenkins said.
Investigators don’t believe anyone was working with Cevario and they think they’ve eliminated any threat to the school and community, officials said. While explosive materials were located during the investigation, they weren’t combined in any form that created an explosive device.
Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging Cevario with possession of explosive material with intent to create a destructive device and possession of incendiary material with the intent to create a destructive device. They say the warrants will be served when she is released from the hospital.
A man who answered the phone at Cevario’s home and her attorney, Alan Winik, declined to comment.

Sandra Bland’s Death Ruled Suicide! Fellow Inmate Says She Was ‘Distraught’ in Jail
Pyle, who was in the Waller County Jail because of unpaid parking tickets, told KTRK that she and Bland communicated through the rectangular windows in their cells that faced one another.
Bland was taken into custody July 10 after a heated traffic stop, and her family has questioned official descriptions of her death as a suicide.
“She seemed really distraught,” Pyle said, “but I don’t know if I can say that was suicidal.”
Pyle did, however, say that she was “positive” that Bland’s death was a suicide because she believes the guards would not have hurt her.
“I don’t think the guards did anything,” Pyle said.
“I just know the guards here. They’re good guards. They’re strict when they need to be but they’re good guards,” Pyle said. “She wasn’t causing a ruckus or anything, so I don’t see why the guards would do anything to her. She was quiet.”
Pyle added that initially Bland didn’t seem interested in conversing, but she later apologized for being rude.
“She said her bond was $5,000 and she said, ‘I’m not equipped for this kind of life. I don’t want to be here, I don’t deserve to be here, I didn’t do anything. It’s all messed up,'” Pyle said.
Bland reportedly held her wrists up to the window to show Pyle “scratches and bruises on her wrists.” On Thursday, Warren Diepraam, the first assistant district attorney in Waller County, Texas, read details from the toxicology and autopsy reports that were conducted by the Harris County medical examiner, which noted that such marks “are consistent with being handcuffed and struggling during the handcuffed process.”
Because Pyle and Bland were not in the same cell, Pyle was unable to say if she knew when Bland made any phone calls, but Bland reportedly told her about them and her struggle to post bond.
“She said she kept on trying to call this one person that she moved in [with] here because she said she was from Chicago and … she was like, ‘It’s just not answering. It’s going straight to voicemail and I don’t know why, I don’t know why. He said he’d be here in an hour and its days later,’” Pyle said.
The jailers’ decision to place Bland alone in a cell seemed strange to Pyle, who was in her cell with two other women. Pyle said the company helped them get through their days. They made each other laugh, which she thought may not have helped Bland’s emotional state.
“She’s over there hearing that, you know. That’d make anybody sad,” Pyle said.

RNN) – Three people have died in a theater shooting during a showing of Trainwreck in Lafayette, LA The shooting occurred at 7:30 p.m. CT at the Grand 16 Theater after 20 minutes into the movie.

For some unexplained reason, she decided to walk into a Dunkin’ Donuts iPhone in hand and decided to record a complaint about not being provided a receipt for a prior purchase.
“This is all being under video surveillance,” she warned one employee who remained polite.
Taylor insisted that she be given a receipt, citing a store policy that supposedly guaranteed her free food as a result of their oversight.
