Kelly Rowland Confirms New 2019 Album & Speaks On Solange’s “Genius”
She’s ready.
Kelly Rowland has confirmed her plans to roll out a new album in 2019. “This year! I said that last year. But I actually, really mean it this year,” she joked. It has been 5 years since the release of her last LP and her fans are clamoring for a new project, especially after her last single “Kelly” dropped in November. The creative process has been quite intense for the singer.
“This is by far the longest, most pressure-filled process ever, only because I know what it’s supposed to be and I have been so hard on myself. I know it. And it’s the first time I’ve said it out loud. I’ve been extremely hard on myself. But it’s definitely coming, and I’m more so excited about this project than anything else,” Rowland revealed during an interview with Billboard.
She focused on the youngest of the artistic family, saying that she would love to collaborate with the talented Solange again.
“I’m a huge fan,” she said. “I love her writing and how detailed and particular she is. I always wanted to figure out how the heck she has so many different layers of harmonies when she is constructing these vocals, and it’s so complex but simple. It’s genius,” she gushed. “It’s the genius in her genius mind that she has in there.”
The pair previously worked together on Rowland’s “Simply Deep” as well as other tracks on the record of the same name. Rowland would later make vocal appearances on Solange’s critically-acclaimed A Seat at the Table.

Solange’s New Album Coming This Fall
“I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle,” she tells The New York Times’ T Magazine of imminent LP
Solange’s new album is imminent. The follow-up to 2016’s A Seat at the Table is coming this fall, she tells T: The New York Times Style Magazine in a new interview. Although a release date hasn’t been set, it will “likely arrive into the world fully formed at some mysterious and unexpected moment,” according to T.
Solange recorded the LP in locations including New Orleans, Jamaica, and California’s Topanga Canyon. “There is a lot of jazz at the core,” she tells T. “But with electronic and hip-hop drum and bass because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle.”
This year, Solange was named the Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year. She also revealed that she’s been working on new music with Steve Lacy. The artist unveiled a new performance art piece called Metatronia in April. She previously created an outdoor performance of her song “Scales” at Donald Judd’s Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas; that project prompted a change of perspective for the new LP, she tells T: “I realize how much wider, figuratively and literally, my work could be if I took myself away as subject.”
Pitchfork named Solange’s A Seat at the Table No. 1 on “The 50 Best Albums of 2016.”

SZA, girl, Solange Knowles Is Not Your Friend
I was watching SZA’s SNL performance of her song The Weekend, and many #MessyBetties said that they came from another video: the official video for The Weekend.
We have waited for this video ever since SZA dropped that single. And so I raced to watch the video and honestly… I enjoyed it. Even though SZA did not have a… storyline like most music videos (involving cheating significant others) I still enjoyed the interpretive dancing, the hair (I love me some SZA hair), the care free black girl aesthetic and all. When I found out the Solange Knowles directed the video it made it that much better, I was ecstatic because it was true #blackgirlmagic!
But everyone was clowning SZA in the comments section saying how this was Cranes In The Garbage, and how this is what happens when you contact the wrong Knowles sister, or even how this was Solange’s revenge for SZA’s old tweet about Beyonce:
Apparently, that was 9 years ago, when SZA was 19. I will leave it at that.
Check out Khadi Don’s hilarious parody of the music video here.
But the more likely reason why everyone felt that Solange ‘sabotaged’ SZA is that the song The Weekend is promoting side chick culture, and if Solange would beat down JayZ in the elevator for allegedly cheating on her sister then maybe she is capable of this…
The Internet, proves to be too much sometimes. I loved the video, but if everyone else thought it was strange then maybe Solange simply missed the mark on this one.
