Meek Mill Receives Up to Four Years in Prison for Violating Probation
Meek Mill sentenced to state prison after pair of 2017 arrests violated probation
Meek Mill received a sentence of two to four years in prison after the Philadelphia rapper violated his probation with a pair of arrests earlier in the year.
Mill was arrested in March following a fight at a St. Louis airport, although those charges were dropped. Meek Mill also pleaded guilty to reckless driving in October after he posted videos of himself doing wheelies on a dirt bike in New York City.
Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley, who has previously overseen matters relating to Meek Mill’s probation, deemed both arrests a violation of the rapper’s probation before sentencing him to two to four years in a state prison.
Brinkley, who previously sentenced to Meek Mill to 90 days of house arrest following a February 2016 probation violation, accused Meek Mill of “just thumbing your nose at me” with his repeated violations.
Ex-LAPD detective who alleged conspiracy in Biggie Smalls’ murder dies
Retired Los Angeles police detective who handled the murder case of rapper Biggie Smalls died Wednesday from a suspected heart attack.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies at the Homicide Bureau reported that Russell Poole collapsed Wednesday morning, according to a sheriff’s department official. He was meeting with detectives about a cold case when he collapsed and was unresponsive. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died, the coroner’s office said.
Poole worked on Smalls’ murder case for about a year, according to Times archives.
The 24-year-old rapper, born Christopher Wallace and known also as Notorious B.I.G., was shot to death while sitting in a car at a red light in Mid-Wilshire on March 9, 1997.
The New York rapper’s death spawned countless conspiracy theories, among them that it was somehow connected to the Las Vegas slaying of rapper Tupac Shakur six months earlier because they and their respective record companies were seen as rivals.
Poole advanced the theory that Wallace’s death came from a plot involving a corrupt LAPD detective and Marion “Suge” Knight, who headed Shakur’s company when Shakur was killed. Wallace’s killing was retaliation, Poole suggested.
Knight is now in jail awaiting a possible murder trial in a separate incident and was never implicated in Wallace’s killing.
Times archives show that Poole quit the police force in 1999 after a series of disputes over the direction of multiple investigations, including Wallace’s murder.
Neither Wallace’s or Shakur’s killings have been solved.
This is sad new Russel Poole was the only detective who care about getting justice for biggy and 2pac’s family!
if you haven’t read the book L.A. byrinth
i suggest you read it, i learned alot about the conspiracy to kill pac and biggy via that book!
Rapper Rick Ross had to put up $2 Million & his 5.8 million mansion just to get Bail
Rick Ross has been released from jail one week after being arrested for kidnapping and aggravated assault. The rapper was initially being held without bail in a Fayette County jail until his court appearance, scheduled for July 1. It appears the judge has had a change of heart.
According to TMZ, Ross’ lawyer appeared alongside him in court early July 1 to argue that his client should be granted the option to pay his way out of jail. He also assured the judge that, should he be released, Ross would not intimidate any witnesses in the case. He promised that the Maybach Music Group founder would hand over his 109-room mansion, purchased for $5.8 million in February 2014, if it was found that he had. The judge agreed, setting the “War Ready” rapper’s bail at a hefty $2 million.
Ross borrowed $1 million in equity from his massive estate, $500,000 from a bail bondsman and handed over $500,000 of his own money. After the debt was paid he was released from police custody, but he’s not off the hook just yet. The 39-year-old will be wearing a GPS ankle monitoring device for an undisclosed amount of time. Both the kidnapping and aggravated assault charges still stand.
Ross is accused of having had an altercation with a grounds keeper, which turned violent. According to reports the rapper confronted the maintenance worker, who lives on the property, about guests he’d invited over the night before. Ross is said to have dragged the man into him home where he locked him in a spare bedroom and assaulted him. According to the Associated Press, he is accused of pistol whipping the grounds keeper, causing severe injury to both his neck and jaw and chipping two teeth.
Ross has not yet broken his social media silence following his release. It has not been announced when he will stand before the judge again to learn his fate.
