Texas inmates caught escaping prison for a whiskey run
Four inmates have been caught busting out of a federal prison in Texas to go on a whiskey run — and then returning, according to officials.
A special surveillance op was conducted by sheriff’s deputies and US Marshalls after “repeated reports of prisoners continuing to escape” from Beaumont federal prison, officials said on Facebook.
The team spotted four inmates leaving the prison grounds last Friday, fleeing when they saw officers springing from their hiding spots in the brush, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
All four were quickly arrested — and found carrying contraband, with some cellphones along with bottles of whiskey, the crime report said.
Julian Lemus, 34, Robert Young, 45, Leo Martinez, 25, and Silvstre Rico, 35, were all charged with escaping custody.

Pedophile beaten and drowned in prison cell toilet bowl
A pedophile was allegedly drowned in his Florida prison cell toilet after being beaten by a cellmate, according to a report.
Convicted child molester David Oseas Ramirez, 56, was found dead in his cell in Jacksonville’s Duval County Jail last Tuesday allegedly after being beaten and drowned in the toilet bowl, according to First Coast News.
He was serving life for lewd and lascivious molestation of an 11-year-old girl — with his 2013 jury taking less than 15 minutes to find him guilty, according to Newsweek.
The attack was witnessed by a third inmate and also captured on surveillance camera footage, which has not been released, the station said. A medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.
Cellmate Paul Dixon, 43, was arrested on suspicion of Ramirez’s murder, authorities announced. He was already serving life for a murder committed when he was 17.
“A verbal altercation became physical. The suspect killed the victim in his cell,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
“A third cell-mate was present and witnessed the murder. The suspect declined to speak with detectives and requested an attorney.”
The killing highlighted how there is “no peace in jail” for convicted child molesters, News4Jax crime and safety analyst Ken Jefferson said.
“They have to constantly watch over their back. They have to hope they can befriend someone to look out for them,” he said.
Jacksonville sheriff’s assistant chief Brian Kee told Action News Jax that the department has not had a similar crime “in recent memory.”
“I mean, I’ve been here almost 23 years. I can’t recall one,” Kee said.

Jailbird allegedly gouged out cellmate’s eyes, made necklace with his ear
A Florida jailbird gouged out his cellmate’s eyeballs, plopped them in a cup then strolled to the prison chow hall with the man’s bloody ear dangling around his neck, according to a report Friday.
Prison guards at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Lakeside had no clue that inmate Larry Mark, 58, had been strangled, mutilated and wrapped in a blood-soaked sheet until his thuggish cellmate showed up for breakfast Thursday — wearing the trophy of flesh, prison sources told the Miami Herald.
The unnamed killer allegedly got mad at Mark for pestering him — and told other inmates he planned to eat his eyeballs, the paper reported.
He struck just hours before a gang-related knife fight broke out in another wing of the prison, which was recently hit by staff shortages, according to the paper. Mark was serving a life sentence for murder.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement would not provide the name of the attacker, who had recently been transferred from death row at a state prison, accordion to the paper
Corrections officers at the prison are on edge due to the staff shortages, which have left up to 250 inmates supervised by a single guard.
Julie Jones, a rep for the Florida Department of Corrections told the paper, “Any loss of life at the hands of an inmate is intolerable, and we are working with our partners at FDLE to investigate this death and ensure anyone responsible is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
