Arizona Dad Accused of Bending Infant Over, Biting Him to Stop Crying; Injuries ‘Not Survivable,’ Doctors Say
An infant has been hospitalized in Phoenix after his father allegedly bent him over because he was crying, authorities said.
Phoenix Police Department officers were dispatched to a home near 12th Street and Camelback Road on Dec. 19 where they found a 6-month-old child unresponsive and not breathing, according to Phoenix television station KNXV.
An officer gave CPR to the child until paramedics arrived.
Doctors at Phoenix Children’s Hospital reported to police that the infant had lacerations to his liver and pancreas, a broken wrist and bruising on his thigh.
“The injuries are not survivable,” doctors told police.
The child was in the care of his father, 30-year-old Robert Anthony Resendiz, at the time.
Resendiz told police that he pressed the infant’s legs over his head and bent his body to get his son to stop crying, the station reported. He said he didn’t release the pressure until the victim stopped moving and was limp.
He also allegedly admitted to even biting the child twice out of frustration.
Resendiz is being held on a $250,000 bond on child abuse charges.
Phoenix man accused of submerging 4-year-old’s face in scalding water
A Phoenix man allegedly held a 4-year-old’s face in scalding water causing him to suffer severe burns.
Ernesto Ronald Avelar, 27, is accused of causing second and third-degree burns to the boy’s face on Sept. 26, according to a Phoenix police report.
He allegedly left the boy in a dark room for three hours, until the child’s mother came home.
The boy’s mother took him to the hospital once she saw his injuries.
Hospital workers indicated that the victim was likely “restrained while being immersed in hot water.”
Avelar was apprehended at his apartment near 26th Street and McDowell Road in Phoenix.
He told police he drew a bath for the child, and left him alone to go care for a second child.
He heard a scream, and saw the boy in the water-filled tub, holding his face.
Avelar said he took the boy to his bedroom and treated his burns with aloe vera.
Neighbor Allegedly ‘Euthanized’ Phoenix Family’s Wounded Dog With Sledgehammer
A Phoenix man allegedly “euthanized” his neighbor’s wounded pit bull with a sledgehammer after the dog was hit by two cars over the weekend, according to a witness.
Jessica Headly told KNXV the injured dog, a pit bull named Beau, tried to get home after being struck by the cars.
“She was able to crawl to the porch. She wasn’t yelping but she was panting hard,” Headly said.
That’s when a neighbor came over with a sledgehammer, Headly told KNXV.
“I was like, what are you doing,” Headly said. “You can’t do that. I’m going to take the dog to the vet. Let me handle it.”
But the man told her the dog was suffering and then hit Beau twice on her head, killing the animal.
“That’s the last thing she saw is some stranger with a sledgehammer. That’s horrible,” Headly said.
Beau’s owner, Jesse Garcia, was not home at the time.
“I wish he would’ve thought twice about what he did to our dog,” Jesse Garcia said.
The man who struck Beau declined to comment, KNXV reported.
Police did go to the home Sunday night, but no arrests were made and no citations were issued, according to KNXV.
Woman finds out boyfriend has HIV, runs him over on graphic video
PHOENIX – Video that may be difficult for some to watch shows a man on a bicycle in the Phoenix area being run down by a woman in a Ford Mustang.
The incident, which took place at 13th Place and Hatcher on April 29, was captured on surveillance video that was posted to YouTube. It shows the Mustang slamming into the cyclist and sending him airborne over the vehicle and onto the pavement. The driver doesn’t stop, leaving the man in the street. Eventually he gets up and stumbles around. He lived but was injured.
A source told 12 News that the woman — Misty Lee Wilke — was the man’s girlfriend, but she had just found out he is HIV-positive.
BlueHorse Solutions LLC, confirmed to 12 News that it installed the cameras on the house that captured the footage about a week before the incident in late April.
A Maricopa County grand jury indicted Wilke on charges including: attempting to commit second-degree murder, leaving the scene and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Wilke is pleading not guilty.
She has a public defender, a court-appointed attorney.
12 News is working to get more details on this wild story and additional video from what happened before the Mustang plowed into the man on the bike.
