Browns’ Odell Beckham caught in ‘Tiger King’ controversy?
Among the more popular shows to binge-watch during the coronavirus pandemic is Netflix’s seven-part documentary series “Tiger King.”
For those who haven’t seen it, the series focuses on big-cat collector Joe Schreibvogel, who now goes by the name of Joe Exotic. Eccentric doesn’t begin to describe the gun-toting, mullet-wearing former country music singer, or the life he leads as a big cat collector, breeder and zoo keeper.
Among the people to visit his zoo in Oklahoma was N.J. native Shaquille O’Neal, an admitted big-cat enthusiast, who made the trek in 2014 and used a recent podcast to distance himself from Joe Exotic.
Sounds like Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham could be in a similar situation, according to cleveland.com:
One of the people prominently featured (in the series) is Doc Antle, the owner of Myrtle Beach Safari, who has a long list of celebrities who have visited his business. According to Antle’s Instagram page, among the famous visitors are Floyd Mayweather, Beyoncé and OBJ.
You may remember Beckham posted a video of himself petting a tiger and playing catch with a chimpanzee at Myrtle Beach Safari in January of 2019, when he still played for the New York Giants. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals used Beckham’s video as a chance to further its cause:
“These sensitive and much-abused animals belong with their families in nature, not pimped out as props by shameless roadside zoos. We’re sure that Odell Beckham Jr. had no idea that the sleazy safari park where this young chimpanzee is kept has a lengthy record of violating federal law and uses great apes and big-cat cubs in cheap publicity stunts like this. These encounters are incredibly dangerous, and PETA urges everyone — including Beckham, who certainly doesn’t want another injury — to steer clear of cruel facilities that exploit animals.”
WFAN reached out to Antle after Beckham posted his video:
Doc Antle, director of Myrtle Beach Safari, which provided the animals in the video, told WFAN.com that while the facility has been investigated for federal violations, it has never been cited for any violations. He added that the animals are well cared for and live in groups with other animals of the same species. “This is not a backyard zoo,” Antle said. “This is a really magnificent wonderful place.”

Antonio Brown says ‘I owe the whole NFL an apology’, addresses mental health, CTE
Antonio Brown apologized to the entire NFL during an interview with ESPN’s Josina Anderson on Friday.
Anderson asked Brown if he feels like he owes anyone in the league an apology.
“I think I owe the whole NFL an apology and my past behavior,” Brown said. “I think I could have done a lot of things better.”
Brown’s expansive interview covered whether or not he needs mental health help, the sexual assault allegations against him, his non-concern over developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and what he thinks of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s comments earlier this week.
Brown’s mental health a concern
Brown, 31, was asked if he feels the need to address his mental health.
“We all need mental help,” Brown said, via ESPN. “From our friends, from the people we hang around, from the people we consult with every day. Yeah, we need mental help.
“I’m like an animal in a cage. Everyone just talks about me. I can’t go out my house in the private. Everything I do is in the face of people, face of someone talking, someone making an assumption about me.”
Following Brown’s latest arrest in January, during which police say he attacked a moving truck driver, a judge required he undergo a mental health evaluation as terms of his bail agreement. Brown is charged with felony burglary with battery, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and criminal mischief.
The star receiver’s mental health has remained a question since before the NFL season began. The mother of his children publicly posted she would distance them from him until he seeks “the mental health that he desperately needs”, while his agent Drew Rosenhaus “conditionally” cut ties with Brown until he seeks help.
Brown doesn’t think he has CTE
In addition to his mental health concerns, there have been questions about Brown and CTE, the brain disease caused by repeated head injuries that can’t be confirmed until after death.
Brown was nearly knocked unconscious by then-Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict in a scary 2016 playoff game while he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That hit has been brought up more often now after Brown’s past 13 months of behavior.
Anderson asked Brown if he thought he had CTE, or if he was concerned about it.
“Nah,” he told Anderson in the video by ESPN, “if I had CTE I wouldn’t be able to have this beautiful gym, I wouldn’t be able to be creative. I wouldn’t be able to communicate.”
Anderson reminded him there are stages of the disease, and he could be in an early one.
“I’m perfectly fine. I didn’t take that many big hits. I had like one big hit in 10 years. Anybody who plays this game, they’re going to get hit hard.
“He didn’t hit me that hard. You know, I got up and walked off the field. We won the game. I was all right. You play the game long enough, everyone get hit hard.”
Brown: ‘I’m a target’ for allegations, media
Brown said he is a target, hence why there are cases filed in court against him, and that the “media will run” with any of those allegations. He called it “unfair.”
“I feel like I never really got in a conflict with no woman,” Brown said, via ESPN. “I just feel like I’m a target so, anybody can come against me and say anything [that] I have to face. There’s no support, there’s no egos, there’s no rules in it, anyone can come after me for anything. No proof or whatever. ‘He said, she’s saying.’
“The media will run with it, so even if I’m not guilty, I’m already guilty because they already wrote it, put it on TV and put that in people’s minds. So for me to have to sit here and hear those allegations of me is just unfair to me every time.”
Brown’s legal troubles are lengthy. There are multiple allegations of rape and sexual misconduct. A lawsuit filed in September shortly after he signed with the New England Patriots includes profane text messages to the woman that brag about the incident.
He live-streamed a profane outburst directed at Hollywood (Fla.) police, and that included him berating his children’s mother. It was filmed with his children present. That resulted in the department cutting ties with him. Brown apologized via Instagram earlier Friday.
Brown denied the accusations of sexual misconduct to Anderson, as he has previously done through lawyers. He said he “can’t speak on it” and the courts will handle it.

Odell Beckham Jr. got extremely candid about Eli Manning and the Giants. Here’s what you need to know
Odell Beckham Jr. gave a stunningly honest interview with ESPN this weekend, ahead of the Giants’ 31-33 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. He didn’t hold anything back. Beckham openly discussed his frustration with the organization, the underwhelming offense, how he wants more opportunities to shine, and when he was asked about Eli Manning, he was speechless.
Speaking with Josina Anderson, Beckham laid out everything he has problems with inside the organization, the kind of information we normally get a taste of via leaks and post-season chatter, not a national interview in the middle of the season.
The Giants were 25th in the NFL in total yardage, 21st in passing, and 29th in scoring prior to this week’s game. Beckham was accounting for over a third of the team receiving yards by himself, which was true again this week when he had 131 receiving yards of the team’s 382 net yards through the air.
Beckham had one touchdown catch and threw a 57-yard touchdown on a trick play in the game. It was the first time since Week 17 of the 2015 season that the Giants scored more than 30 points in a single game.
So what did Beckham say in his interview?
He believes his career has stagnated because of the Giants.
“I don’t feel like I’m being given the opportunity to be the very best that I can, to bring that every single day — and that’s really all I want to do, to bring that every single day. Since I’ve been here I’ve put up numbers, records have been broken and all those good things, not to say mean nothing to me, but I know they could have been double, or triple whatever they are now. That’s the part that bothers me.”
Beckham was a first-round pick in 2014. That season, he became the first rookie with more than 75 catches, 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns, and was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. In 2016, he became the fastest player to reach 200 receptions and 4,000 receiving yards.
But in his first five seasons, the team only made the playoffs once, in 2016, losing to the Packers in an NFC Wild Card game.

School superintendent on Texans star: ‘You can’t count on a black QB’
A school superintendent in Texas said he thought he was sending a private message when he wrote a public Facebook post blasting Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, stating, “you can’t count on a black quarterback.”
Lynn Redden, superintendent of the Onalaska Independent School District, made the comment in reference to the final play of the Texans’ 20-17 loss on Sunday to the Tennessee Titans during which Watson held onto the ball before completing a pass to receiver DeAndre Hopkins as time expired, leaving no time to try a last-second, game-tying field goal.
“That may have been the most inept quarterback decision I’ve seen in the NFL,” Redden wrote on a Facebook post promoting a Houston Chronicle story about the game. “When you need precision decision making you can’t count on a black quarterback.”
But Redden didn’t realize that the post was public. He later deleted his comment and told the Chronicle he wishes he never shared that sentiment.
“I totally regret it,” Redden told the newspaper.
Redden, who oversees 1,130 students and 175 staffers as the district’s superintendent, did not immediately return a message seeking comment from The Post early Tuesday. He had not faced any discipline in connection with the remark as of Monday afternoon but told the Chronicle he understands how people may consider it to be racist.
Redden said he was referring to the statistical success of black quarterbacks in the NFL.
“Over the history of the NFL, they have had limited success,” he told the newspaper.
Doug Williams in 1988 became the league’s first black quarterback to lead his team to a championship, taking the Washington Redskins over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII. Williams, who started the season as a backup, was named the game’s MVP after completing 18-of-29 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns.
More recently, in 2014, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson became the second black quarterback to win it all, beating the Denver Broncos 43-8 in his second season as a pro.
The eagle-eyed reader who caught Redden’s comment, meanwhile, said he hopes there are repercussions to follow.
“It’s important to make sure horrible words are met with consequences, especially for those in powerful positions with influence,” reader Matt Erickson told the newspaper.
Watson, for his part, said the Titans simply countered with “good coverage” during the game’s waning seconds, according to ESPN.
Asked if he should’ve thrown the ball away earlier, he said: “Of course.
“But while you’re playing … you can sit back and sit in your seats and say that I needed to throw the ball away,” Watson said. “But we tried to take a shot and we didn’t have any timeouts and they guarded the sideline very well. So my instincts took over and tried to get the ball and time ran out.”
Coach Bill O’Brien instead took most of the blame.
“We’re just trying to get it into field goal range and just trying to — we’ve got to do a better job of coaching that play up,” O’Brien told reporters.

Trump on NFL protesters: ‘Maybe you shouldn’t be in the country’
You knew this was coming: President Donald Trump, whose fiery comments on NFL protesters last year inflamed his populist base, spoke with satisfaction Thursday morning about new rules that sharply restrict pregame protests. Speaking to Fox & Friends’ Brian Kilmeade, Trump expressed approval that NFL owners “did the right thing” by requiring players on the field to stand.
“I don’t think people should be staying in the locker rooms, but still I think it’s good,” he said. “You have to stand proudly for the national anthem, or you shouldn’t be playing, you shouldn’t be there. Maybe you shouldn’t be in the country. You have to stand proudly for the national anthem.”……….

Aaron Hernandez’s Fiancée Shayanna Jenkins Reveals She Is Pregnant 13 Months After His Death
Aaron Hernandez‘s fiancée at the time of his death, Shayanna Jenkins, is expecting a child 13 months after he hanged himself in prison.
The mother of one, who shares daughter Avielle Janelle with the late football player, announced her pregnancy on Instagram with a bump-revealing photo on Tuesday.
Jenkins also revealed the sex of her baby, writing she was expecting a second daughter, although she did not comment on the paternity of the child.
“Many of you have had speculated that I may be expecting another miracle which is very accurate, I wanted to take time and process and post when I was ready to. I wanted to have a moment for myself alone with my daughter … we are beyond excited about the new addition and chapter we will soon begin,” Jenkins, 28, wrote in the caption.
“I couldn’t be a luckier woman to have such a perfect little girl that’s prepared to become the best big sister, and even more blessed to welcome another babygirl [sic] to our home,” she continued.
“BabyG we are very excited to meet you !!! Mommy and sissy will continue to wait patiently for your arrival. I thank everyone for the continued support and appreciate the respect for our privacy that has been shown” she added.
Jenkins and Hernandez welcomed their daughter Avielle, 5, in 2012. In November of that year, the two also became engaged although they never married.
Hernandez, a former tight end for the New England Patriots, was arrested in 2013 for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a man dating Jenkin’s sister. As he awaited trial, he was charged with the fatal drive-by shootings of Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu and Safiro Teixeira Furtado.

“Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population unit,” a statement from the Massachusetts Department of Corrections read at the time. “[He] hanged himself utilizing a bedsheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.”

In May 2017, Jenkins appeared on the Dr. Phil show and said she did not believe the athlete killed himself, despite authorities’ determination otherwise.
“I don’t think this was a suicide,” she told Dr. Phil citing his acquittal and pending appeal on the Odin case. “That would make me doubt that he took his own life. He was very positive, so excited to come home.”
She added that Hernandez had spoken with their daughter after his acquittal and told her, “Daddy’s gonna be home.”

Looks like I’ll be sitting out the NFL again next season and the season after that etc.
It was much easier to boycott the NFL last season than I anticipated. For one, I underestimated how much I’d enjoy having my Sundays back. Also, my NFL fandom belongs to a team with a racist name that also happens to suck more often than not, so boycotting because the NFL blackballed Colin Kaepernick was as much “Why don’t I just enjoy life” as it was actively taking a stance.
But a stance I did take. I specifically didn’t watch NFL games because I think the NFL is remarkably tone-deaf and places the value of a dollar over the rights of persons from affected communities to use their tremendous platform to speak on issues that directly speak to them. And it also kept Kaepernick out on purpose because white people put up a stink. But the league sucks in lots of other areas, too.
When the NFL stops a person from being able to even support breast-cancer awareness in the name of his own mother during months that the NFL doesn’t have a specific interest in doing so, there’s a problem.
Thus, I was right there with my support of all the players who chose to kneel or protest silently against police brutality, following in the activist steps of Kaepernick who wasn’t able to do so on the field. Fuck the NFL.
So, I sat out last season, and haven’t worn any NFL-related ’nalia since longer than I can remember except for that one time I wore my Colin Kaepernick jersey to Jay-Z’s 4:44 concert stop in Washington, D.C…..
