Instagram model destroys eyes in cosmetic surgery gone wrong – changing eye color from brown to light grey
Nadinne Bruna, a 32-year-old Instagram model who has more than a million followers, has the eyesight of a 90-year-old after undergoing a controversial procedure: She had silicone implanted in her peepers to change her eye color from brown to light gray.
“Before this surgery, my eyes were completely healthy,” Bruna, who’s based in Miami, tells South West News Service. “My pupils, they can’t adjust to light anymore, so I’m very photosensitive now too. This surgery completely f–ked up my life.”
Retinal implants are illegal to perform in the United States and not approved by the FDA. Ophthalmologists say that they can cause irreparable damage.
“The implants interfere with normal fluid leaving the eyes, which causes scarring, increases pressure and damages the nerves permanently,” Dr. Richard Rose, retina surgeon at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, tells The Post. And he’s heard of Americans going to Central and South America to have the procedure. “There are definitely some patients I’ve seen that do OK with them, but I’ve also seen some real disasters.”
It was a risk that Bruna was willing to take. In September 2016, she flew to Bogota, Colombia, to have the procedure, where she was charged a discounted rate of $3,000 in exchange for posting her results on Instagram.
But the procedure damaged her optic nerves, and she ended up with glaucoma, an incurable eye condition that can gradually cause blindness. On top of that, her eyes were constantly red and itchy for a year, and she had to stop booking modeling jobs because of her condition.
“I make most of my money through my Instagram account and I couldn’t do photo shoots,” she says. “I’ve been living on my savings.”
She had the implants removed in Miami in September, but the damage was already done.
“Nadinne’s eye problems are something she will have to deal with for the rest of her life. She’s never going to be done with it,” ophthalmologist Dr. Ranya Habash, who performed the implant-removal surgery on Bruna at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, tells the Daily Mail.
Dr. Eugenio Cabrera, the Colombian doctor who performed the surgery, did not comment on the procedure.
If you want to switch up your eye color without destroying your vision, Rose suggests colored contact lenses.
“They’re safe, approved and you can take them out,” Rose says.
Ultimately, the surgical nightmare was a learning moment for Bruna.
“I was completely stupid. I trusted the wrong person,” she says. “I don’t think surgeries are bad. I just didn’t know the risks and I made a mistake by not doing my research.”

Airline faces backlash for sexy in-flight fashion show
On Tuesday, aviation authorities fined budget airline Vietjet 40 million dong ($1,761) after lingerie-clad models put on a sultry in-flight fashion show for a soccer team.
Vietnam’s under-23 men’s team was returning home after losing to Uzbekistan in the Asian Cup on Sunday, Reuters reports.
Photos of the models and players surfaced online after the flight, where they sparked controversy.
“Who let these escaped chimpanzees on the plane welcome home the under-23 team?” wrote one Facebook user.
Vietjet, which has gained flak in the past for sending flight attendants into the skies in bikinis, has apologized for the gaffe.
“This was an improvised performance by the logistics team that was not part of the company’s program,” Vietjet executive Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao writes on the company’s Facebook page.
But model and DJ Lai Thanh, who participated in the fashion show, tells Reuters that a Vietjet rep told her to “grab a photo with the players.”
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also fined the flight’s chief stewardess the equivalent of $175 for the stunt.
“Despite the fact the Vietjet event didn’t jeopardize the safety of the flight, it could still have posed a safety risk,” they write in a statement.
Of course, not everyone is appalled by the stunt.
“Did it perk up the guys?” one Twitter user writes. “If it did, then the work the girls put into getting all dolled up was worth it for them.”

New model Phaedra Parks isn’t afraid to get naked on camera
As a staple on the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” for seven seasons, Wilhelmina Models’ new client Phaedra Parks has no problem stripping down for the cameras.
“I don’t mind baring it all — I have been wearing g-strings and baring it all really every season for seven years,” the former Bravo star told Us Weekly. “I had two children on national TV. I love nudity!”
Noting that she loves her body and curves, Parks said, “I’m a mother of two children, so I’m not perfect, but I have no problem getting naked.”
Adding model to her already lengthy resume — which includes lawyer and mortician — the 44-year-old is ready to channel her inner Naomi Campbell.
“I think I’m the face of ‘yes you can,’” Parks said. “I’m a small town girl who has followed her dreams. Yes you can be a mom, yes you can be a lawyer and yes you can be a model. When the opportunity presented itself some people asked me ‘Why?’ and I said ‘Why not?’”
Amid personal turmoil — particularly her highly publicized divorce from husband Apollo Nida, who is serving an eight-year sentence after pleading guilty to federal fraud charges in 2014 — Parks is rewriting her own story, with a revenge body to boot.

“I feel like I turned into Benjamin Button and started aging backwards, I started being happy,” she said.
With the holidays fast approaching, Parks is also preparing for an influx of business in funeral arrangements.
“Being a mortician is a passion of mine and everything I’m passionate about I just dive right in. This is our peak season actually, the peak season from deaths is from Halloween to around Valentine’s Day, so we’re very busy — people are going to glory pretty regularly. I’m directing a few funerals this weekend,” Parks said. “I know it’s morbid, but I love being the final party planner.”
