Kid Rock’s Detroit restaurant is closing after profane Oprah rant goes viral — but he says he’s not racist
Kid Rock confirmed that, come April, he will not be renewing the licensing agreement for his Made In Detroit restaurant, his signature eatery at Little Caesars Arena that opened in 2017. The space will instead offer a new concept which “aligns with our community and company values,” said Chris Granger, president of sports and entertainment for Ilitch Holdings, according to Detroit Free Press.
The news comes days after Kid Rock’s drunken, profanity-laced tirade against Oprah Winfrey went viral, with the 48-year-old musician alluding to the drama in a Wednesday Facebook post announcing the news.
“I appreciate all who have patronized our place and still have much love for the City of Detroit and the people / organizations that I have helped there for years, black, white, whatever, but learned long ago, go where you’re celebrated, not tolerated,” Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, wrote.
“I guess the millions of dollars I pumped into that town was not enough. I will let the NAN network and others go ahead and take the wheel now. Good luck,” the Detroit native continued.
Kid Rock was referencing the not-for-profit civil-rights organization National Action Network (NAN), founded by the Reverend Al Sharpton, with whom the rocker has clashed over the years. He added, “Trump 2020!!” before specifically listing a few organizations in Detroit to which he’s donated hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Hours later, he tweeted, “All this BS going on has just go my blood pumpin’ and is only more songwriting fuel for a new record and tour in 2021. I am beholden to no one, no corporate sponsors, no label and I am gonna go the f*** off!” He added in another tweet, “You haters better be shaking in your boots.”
The “Only God Knows Why” singer faced backlash after a vulgar video of him bashing Winfrey, Joy Behar and Kathie Lee Gifford was posted online last week. Kid Rock, who appeared heavily intoxicated, made the statements on a mic at his Honky Tonk bar in Nashville. Many people viewed his comments as racist, something he denied mid-rant.
“Oprah Winfrey is like ‘Hey, I want to get some white women to believe in this [expletive],” he yelled. “And if you say that, you’re like, ‘Hey, well I’m pretty sure Kid Rock is a racist.’ I’m like, okay fine. [Expletive].”
“I’m not a bad guy,” added the musician. “I don’t like Oprah Winfrey or Joy Behar.”
He continued, “They’re like, you’re [expletive] racist, I’m like, you’re [expletive] weird. You call your people, I’ll call mine.”
Kid Rock (sort of) elaborated on his disdain for Winfrey in a follow-up tweet Friday.
A Detroit activist group said it plans to hold a news conference on Wednesday about what it calls his “reprehensible tirade,” according to the Associated Press.

Kid Rock responds to disparaging Oprah remarks: ‘I am what I am, I ain’t what I ain’t’
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Kid Rock has received a lot of feedback in the past few days after making disparaging remarks about Oprah Winfrey, and he has responded.
Kid Rock put out a statement on his Facebook page just before 5 p.m. Friday:
“My people tried to get me to do The Oprah Winfrey show years ago and her people wanted me to write down 5 reasons why I loved her and her show????? I said f*** that and her. End of story. I am just saying what a lot of people think. Not saying I should be, but sometimes I just do. Oh well. I have a big mouth and drink too much sometimes, shocker! I also work hard and do a ton to help others out but that’s just back page news because the press hates I love Trump, f*** them too. I am what I am, I ain’t what I ain’t!
PS And you haters and internet trolls can check my touring numbers and shut your ignorant a**** up! Boom!
PSS I did not get removed from MY OWN BAR (fake news) if anything I was leaving and the cops were helping me out. Hey, at least I don’t drink and drive!! ????
PSSS. Was it racist when I said “F*** Joy Behar”??? and by the way… I love Kathy Lee Gifford.”
Rock’s statement comes after a patron at his Nashville honky tonk captured video of him in a profanity-laced rant about Oprah Winfrey and others.
TMZ posted the video early Friday morning of Kid Rock swearing and slurring his words on stage, especially calling out Oprah, but also Joy Behar and Kathie Lee Gifford. This apparently occurred last week.
The “Cowboy” singer defended his tirade, saying, “I’m not the bad guy” and “I’m just an honest guy,” while an onlooker can be heard calling him racist.
The video ends with him singing “Proud Mary,” before security tends to him.
This time last year, Kid Rock was kicked out of the Nashville Christmas parade for calling Behar an expletive. However, he also paid off layaways for hundreds of families in Nashville.

Kid Rock Slams Taylor Swift for Being a Democrat, Accuses Her of Sleeping Her Way Through Hollywood
Kid Rock came out of nowhere on Friday morning to attack Taylor Swift for her political beliefs and accuse her of using sex to get famous.
It’s unclear what sparked Rock’s Twitter attack (he hardly ever tweets) but he did not mince words when it comes to his feelings about Swift.
“Taylor Swift wants to be a democrat because she wants to be in movies….period,” he wrote. And it looks like she will suck the door knob off Hollyweird to get there. Oldest move in the book. Good luck girl.”
He signed the tweet to make sure you know it definitely came from him.
In her recent interview with Vogue, Swift talked about why she did not come out and endorse a candidate in the 2016 presidential election.
“Unfortunately in the 2016 election you had a political opponent who was weaponizing the idea of the celebrity endorsement,” she said. “He was going around saying, ‘I’m a man of the people. I’m for you. I care about you.’ I just knew I wasn’t going to help. Also, you know, the summer before that election, all people were saying was, ‘She’s calculated. She’s manipulative. She’s not what she seems. She’s a snake. She’s a liar.’ These are the same exact insults people were hurling at Hillary. Would I be an endorsement or would I be a liability? ‘Look, snakes of a feather flock together. Look, the two lying women. The two nasty women.’ Literally millions of people were telling me to disappear. So I disappeared. In many senses.”
Rock, on the other hand, has been very outspoken about his support for President Donald Trump.
He attended the signing of H.R. 1551, better known as the “Orrin G. Hatch-Bob Goodlatte Music Modernization Act” in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in October 2018.
Rock went out of his way to praise Trump during the signing, saying, “I’d just like to bring it up that there’s a whole lot of people in this country that do give you a lot of credit for everything you’ve been doing for this country. That we know that some people don’t give it to you as much as maybe they should sometimes.
