Janet Jackson is accused of removing a monument to her brother Michael from his childhood home for a video shoot and replacing it with a white board
- The stone tribute was erected outside Jackson’s childhood home after his death
- It disappeared last October and police said at the time that the family had it
- But a year later the huge monument has been replaced by a white board
A giant Michael Jackson monument which was mysteriously taken from his childhood home has been replaced with a white board.
Neighbours in Gary, Indiana, accused his sister Janet of removing the impressive plaque, although the family later claimed that it had been taken down temporarily and would be put back soon.
But a year on and there’s no sign of the huge plaque but instead a paper message board has appeared in its place, hanging on the railings.
The monument disappeared at the end of October last year and eagle-eyed locals said it was the same time as Janet came into town for her US tour – she was playing in nearby Chicago and visited the home the next day.
Gary Police Lt. Thomas Pawlak said at the time: ‘I guess it was taken down to do a video shoot. They are planning to do some landscaping in the spring. Once they are done, they’ll bring it back.’
Now tourists are complaining about the missing plaque and accusing the family of theft. Claudia T on TripAdvisor wrote: ‘Sad that the plaque was removed from front yard by family. They should put it back!!’
Another, called Dialjo, was furious that the family had taken the most impressive thing about the house, saying: ‘There is really nothing to see but a gated house. There are a few plaques and a place to leave a message on a white-board. Bring your own marker – the one their (sic) is dry.’
The stone was a mammoth epitaph to the King of Pop and paid its respects to the singer on one side, engraved with the words ‘Never Can Say Good Bye’.
The other side was adorned with pictures of Michael through the ages and a biography.
Now the only sign that the house ever belonged to the Jacksons is a plaque in the pathway which says ‘In Loving Memory of Michael J Jackson – You Gave Us A Lifetime of Love’ from all the Jackson family.

The nine Jackson brothers and sisters, plus mum Katherine and dad Joe, lived at 2300 Jackson Street, all crammed into the two-bed house. Michael lived there until he was five years old.
One neighbor posted at the time of it going missing: ‘Just recently I noticed that the MJ memorial in the front yard has been removed.
‘To my knowledge, there has been no mention of where it went. It actually coincided with Janet’s time in the area performing in Chicago. I’m sure she might be able to shed some light on this. I’d be more than open to hear from her.’

Janet Jackson Recruits Q-Tip for Live ‘Got ‘Til It’s Gone’
Cardi B, the Weeknd, Shawn Mendes also performed at 2018 Global Citizen Festival
Janet Jackson recruited Q-Tip for a soulful live version of their collaborative 1997 track “Got ‘Til It’s Gone” on Saturday during the 2018 Global Citizen Festival at Central Park in New York, New York.
Jackson opened the performance crooning between choreographed moves on a stage crammed full of dancers and musicians. Q-Tip emerged from the shadows to deliver his brief verse, rapping, “You act all wild, when I tell you to settle/ I was working round the clock, but your girls want to meddle.” The duo ended their take on the Joni Mitchell-sampling single locked in a long embrace.
Cardi B, the Weeknd, Shawn Mendes and Janelle Monáe also highlighted the festival’s seventh installment. The Global Citizen Festival continues to urge world leaders to follow the United Nation’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development and end extreme poverty by 2030.
In August, Jackson debuted “Made for Now,” her collaboration with Daddy Yankee, on Saturday Night Live, marking her first late-night appearance in 14 years.

Janet Jackson splits with billionaire husband
She’s having a marriage malfunction!
Just months after giving birth to her first child at age 50, Janet Jackson has split with billionaire husband Wissam Al Mana.
While one source said the split is amicable and the couple will co-parent their son, others said trouble had been brewing for months.
“She thought he had become too controlling during the pregnancy and she had already allowed him to dictate her appearance and even the way she performed at concerts,” the source who works closely with the couple said.
Other demands that the “Rhythm Nation” singer gave in to included toning down her 2014 concert tour — wearing clothing that covered her body, instead of the skin-revealing outfits fans had grown to love.
She also declined to do music videos that featured any bumping and grinding, trademarks of her work, the source said.
Jackson also resented the reclusiveness of her husband, who rarely met with her friends or family, the source said.
Still, the couple hoped a baby would help.
They welcomed their son, Eissa Al Mana, on January 3 after nearly five years of marriage. After much deliberation over whether to have a lavish wedding, Jackson gave in to Al Mana’s demands for a simple and private ceremony, sources said.
But Jackson was doing all the compromising — with little give from the younger Al Mana, 41.
The last straw for the thrice married “Control” singer was her husband’s reluctance to show concern for Katherine Jackson’s elder abuse claims against her nephew Trent.Jackson even quietly made London her home after Al Mana insisted the family live under strict Muslim custom, which included prohibiting the new mom from being seen in public while nursing the baby.
Katherine recently returned to Los Angeles after a two month stay in London with Janet.
“That’s when Janet made her decision that there was no turning back,” the source said. “She was worried about her mother — and Wissam showed little to no concern.”
Jackson is believed to be worth $250 million while Al Mana is a billionaire Qatari businessman. The source was not aware of any prenuptial agreement and declined to say whether Jackson would seek spousal or child support.
