Patient dies after she says both kidneys mistakenly removed
A 73-year-old Colorado woman who claimed her healthy kidneys were removed by doctors died eight months following the surgery, according to reports.
Linda Woolley was taking the steps to get on the nation’s kidney transplant waiting list when she died Friday from cardiac arrest, news station KDVR reported.
Wooley underwent surgery in May 2018 to remove both kidneys after she claims doctors at the University of Colorado Hospital told her she likely had kidney cancer. Following the procedure, she was required to undergo four hours of dialysis three days a week, according to KDVR.
It wasn’t until after the surgery that Woolley discovered her biopsy reports prior to the procedure showed “no evidence of malignancy,” news station KDVR reported.
“I was not real happy,” Woolley told the news outlet in November. “My life was totally changed. Dialysis is no picnic no matter how used to it you get, it robs you of your life.”
Prior to her death, Woolley retained an attorney to file a lawsuit alleging malpractice against the hospital, news station WGN-TV reported.
Woolley’s family said they believe the grandmother would “absolutely” still be alive if she didn’t have the procedure.
“There’s a few things the kidneys regulate, one of them being potassium,” her daughter Jodi Fournier told KDVR.
“And when you don’t have them you have the dialysis that removes those toxins in your body. Her [potassium] levels were twice what they should’ve been and that ultimately caused the cardiac arrest.”
The University of Colorado Hospital released a statement following the former patient’s death.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones,” the hospital said.
“We are committed to providing the highest-quality care for our patients. Unfortunately, we are unable to discuss any specific patients because of federal and state laws that protect patients’ privacy.”
A GoFundMe page has been launched to raise money for Woolley’s funeral expenses

FL Naval nurses booted over disturbing pics, posts of ‘mini Satan’ newborns
Nurses at a naval hospital in Florida have been booted from their posts after sick photos went viral of them rudely posing with newborn babies and referring to the tots as “mini Satans.”
One of the pics posted to Snapchat shows Allyson Thompson, a corpsman at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, flipping the bird to a baby who’s wrapped in a blanket, along with the caption, “How I currently feel about these mini Satans,” according to Action News Jacksonville.
In another photo, Thompson grins as she holds a baby up by its arms. The pic was shared by a woman who identified the employee as a “navy nurse” who made the newborn dance to rap music, First Coast News reported.
The rogue staffers have been “removed from patient care,” the hospital said in a statement.
“We are aware of a video/photo posted online. It’s outrageous, unacceptable, incredibly unprofessional, and cannot be tolerated,” the hospital said. “We have identified the staff members involved. They have been removed from patient care and they will be handled by the legal system and military justice. We’re in the process of notifying the patient’s parents.”
Thompson and Barrett could not immediately be reached.

Man guns down his own mother in hospital ICU
An active shooter scare at a New Hampshire hospital on Tuesday turned out to be a deadly domestic situation — with a man killing his own mother as she laid in the intensive care unit, officials said.
Pamela Ferriere, 70, was gunned down by her 49-year-old son, Travis Frink, shortly after he arrived at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, according to WCVB.
“The purpose of Mr. Frink’s visit to the hospital was to kill his mother,” Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said Tuesday night at a press conference.
It took Frink a total of nine minutes — from the moment he signed in at the visitors desk to the time he arrived at the ICU unit — for him to take his mother’s life, MacDonald said.
Cops swarmed Darmouth-Hitchcock, New Hampshire’s largest hospital, at around 1:24 p.m. after receiving reports of an active shooter. The facility was placed on lockdown for at least an hour while authorities searched for a suspect.
Frink was eventually captured by local police while attempting to leave the premises, WJAR reports.
He allegedly let off several rounds while inside the medical center, but Ferriere was the only person hit.
Her son appeared to arrive at the facility in a silver SUV, which was surrounded by police and being checked during the lockdown.
Rhode Island State Police later confirmed to WJAR that the vehicle did belong to Frink, who is a Warwick resident.
Authorities were reportedly conducting a “well-being check” at his home Tuesday night.
Frink is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder.
