10-Year-Old Boy Dies After Getting Tangled in Florida Swing Set Chain – wrapped around his neck
A 10-year-old Florida boy died Friday night after he got tangled in swing set chains and they wrapped around his neck, according to WJXT.
Police went to Charles Clark Park in Jacksonville at about 6:15 p.m. and found NaShon Green unresponsive. NaShon was on the swing set while his mother was getting her other children ready to leave the park.
“When she turned around, she saw the child and he was hanging from the swing set and his feet were not touching the ground,” Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Sgt. S.C. Rudlaff told WFLA. “She immediately reacted, got the child off the swingset and called 911.”
NaShon was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Investigators believe the boy was standing on the swing set when he got tangled and the swing’s chains wrapped around his neck.
Foul play is not suspected and the death is being investigated as a “tragic accident.

Florida Woman Buys Computer, Other Electronics for $3.70 at Walmart After Allegedly Swapping Barcodes
A Florida woman is accused of paying only $3.70 for nearly $2,000 worth of electronics after she allegedly swapped barcodes at a local Walmart, according to KTLA sister station WPIX in New York. Cheyenne Amber West and another woman entered the store and began taking video game controllers, a computer and other items from the electronics department, a Walmart loss prevention officer said.
The two then allegedly went to the clearance section, where they took out the devices from their boxes and placed clearance price tags on them.
The pair then proceeded to a self-checkout counter, where they allegedly scanned the clearance barcodes and paid a total of $3.70. The electronics cost a total $1,825.20.
According to the arrest affidavit, the 25-year-old said, “I am just trying to get gifts for my son that I cannot afford. The computer is for my husband. Since he just got me a Coach purse, I figured he deserved something nice as well.”
West has been charged with felony grand theft and shoplifting, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
She was released from jail after paying her $3,000 posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 13.
Teen accused of raping neighbor allegedly asked if he could do yard work to make it up to her
An 18-year-old Florida man raped his neighbor at knifepoint and then asked her if he could make it up to her by doing yardwork, authorities said.
The woman was awakened Friday by a masked man “hovering over her,” according to a probable cause affadavit.
Timothy Walding “then placed his hand tight over her mouth and told her not to scream while holding a knife to her neck.”
The woman told cops she could only see the suspect’s eyes as he tied both her hands together. Cops say that Walding spoke to the victim after sexually assaulting her, and that there was “a lot of dialogue” between them.
Fearing for her life, the woman tried to convince the suspect she did not know him. He told her that he “could not imagine leaving two kids without a mother because his mother passed away” when he was 12.
Walding would later reveal himself to her by taking off his mask, according to cops.
When she asked him how he got into the house, he said, “you really should deadbolt your door because I didn’t really want to do this, but I had to do it,” according to the affadavit.
He is facing multiple charges, including three counts of sexual assault.

Florida Deputy Captured on Video Allegedly Stealing From Dying Man During Hurricane Irma
A sheriff’s deputy is accused of stealing from the empty house of a dying man while Hurricane Irma put south Florida in a state of emergency. The incident was caught on security video.
Jay Rosoff called the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 12 and requested a welfare check for his 85-year-old father. Rosoff, who lives in North Carolina, told deputies the indoor surveillance camera in his father’s Boynton Beach home did not detect any movement, according to a document obtained by CNN. His father, Moe Rosoff, had remained alone during the hurricane.
Three deputies responded and found Rosoff, who family members say had fallen and hit his head during a power outage, on the floor of the master bathroom. He was transported to a nearby hospital, and the deputies left the home. Rosoff died the same day.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Deputy Jason Cooke, who was not involved in the initial call, later came to the home and was shown on video going through the house. Police say Cooke has confessed to taking drugs from the home. He was arrested on Oct. 19 on several charges, including burglary and larceny.
Incident recorded on security video
Here is how the affidavit describes the incident:
Cooke, in uniform, arrived at Rosoff’s home about an hour and a half after the other deputies left.
The home’s surveillance camera alerted Jay Rosoff and his brother Steven that there was movement inside their father’s home. They immediately watched the footage, and said they saw Cooke enter the home through the garage. The deputy learned the entry code by listening to the initial call, officials said.
The video shows Cooke go into the master bedroom, the documents say, but it is unknown what he did there because the camera is in the common area. He reappears a couple of minutes later as he walks from the bedroom to the kitchen. Cooke picks up an item that seems to be a container and empties it on his hand before putting it in his pocket, the documents say, adding that he does this again with a second item and proceeds to inspect the kitchen cabinets and drawers.
Cooke disappears as he goes to the rooms in the front of the house. He later reappears walking back to the garage and is seen holding his hand on his mouth as if he were consuming something, the documents say.
The deputy left the home minutes after he entered it. The Rosoff brothers reported the incident, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation.
“We were outraged and disgusted when we viewed this,” a Rosoff family statement said.
‘A bad decision’
Another deputy identified Cooke on the video during the investigation. He was questioned and confessed to taking Tramadol from the home. It is a pain reliever that is a Schedule 4 controlled substance. Cooke also admitted taking some other medications from a death investigation and not submitting them to evidence, police said.
Teri Barbera, public information officer for Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, said the department “never forgets about its duty to preserve the public’s trust.”
“Unfortunately, sometimes an employee makes a bad decision, which leads to misconduct,” Barbera said. “We investigated and determined his actions were criminal in nature, resulting in the charges.”
Cooke was released on October 20 on $28,000 bond and is on administrative leave from the sheriff’s office.
The conditions of his release include receiving substance abuse treatment, random drug tests at least once a week, and the surrender of his firearms to the sheriff’s office. Cooke is due back in court on November 20.
‘A perfect example of the opioid epidemic’
Cooke’s attorney, Stuart Kaplan, told CNN this case is “a perfect example of the opioid epidemic, with respect to medication.”
The attorney said his client has faced “traumatizing” circumstances in both his personal life and in his job as a police officer.
Kaplan said he understands the gravity of the situation but that he hopes people are “compassionate” when someone steals medication for personal use because of an addiction.
“The video speaks for itself, and it highlights the epidemic we’re dealing with,” Kaplan said. “People who have good intentions, good people, can get hooked on these medications.”
The attorney would not comment on the criminal proceedings against his client.

‘Mommy, I can’t breathe. This man was trying to kill me!’ School bus driver brawls with boy in video
A Florida bus driver was caught on camera in a physical altercation with a teen that had students begging the man to cut it out.
The video showed students breaking up a scuffle between the driver and an 13-year-old boy last week on an Aventura Waterways Preparatory school bus, according to news station WPLG.
After a shouting match, the student walked away down the aisle. But within moments, the driver was seen grabbing his collar and pressing him up against a window.
The teen’s mom Diana Cowan said that she was shocked to learn the driver physically assaulted her son.
“He said, ‘Mommy, I can’t breathe. This man was trying to kill me,’” Cowan told WPLG.
Cowan said that she’s concerned for her son and the other students.
“The anger that I saw in the video and how he handled my son, I’m very concerned for other kids,” Cowan said. “I’m concerned that this driver could hurt other children, I mean, worse than how he hurt my son.”
The school district said that the bus driver has been reassigned and they’re investigating the incident.
“Miami-Dade County Public Schools is taking this allegation, which first surfaced last week, very seriously,” spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego said in a statement to WPLG. “We regard our students’ wellbeing among our top priorities. The employee has been reassigned while we conduct a thorough investigation into this matter.”

Florida moms overdose on heroin in SUV with infants in backseat
Two Florida mothers overdosed on heroin in a car on Thursday — with a pair of infants in the backseat.
Kristen Leigh O’Connor, 28, and 29-year-old June Schweinhart would tell cops in Boynton Beach that they met in a drug treatment program and bonded during their pregnancies.
O’Connor told investigators she picked up Schweinhart in the SUV and they bought $60 worth of heroin from her old drug dealer.
“For whatever reason, they decided yesterday to buy heroin and then snorted it while inside the car with their children,” the Boynton Beach Police Department wrote on Facebook on Friday.
When one of the women began to overdose, the other one called 911 for help. But then she started convulsing, according to cops.
“Oh my God, oh my God,” O’Connor said she heard Schweinhart say, according to the Palm Beach Post.
A passerby saw what was going on and took the phone and spoke with the dispatcher. The Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of the babies before turning them over to relatives. O’Connor and Schweinhart were charged with child neglect and taken to jail after being released from the hospital.
A judge ruled Friday that O’Connor can be with her child only when the baby’s grandmother is present, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The babies were one month and two months old, respectively, the newspaper reported.
“We hope this serves as a wake-up call for these moms, and that they seek further treatment for their addiction,” cops said.
Woman busted sprinkling glass shards in food to get free meals
A Delray Beach, FL, woman has been accused of placing glass shards in her food to get a free meal from restaurants.
Kaitlyn Murphy, a 31-year-old resident was arrested earlier this week on felony defraud charges after she admitted to using glass to get out of paying for her food, a trick the woman claims to have learned from someone she knew in rehab.
Murphy confessed that she would carry glass in her purse when she went out to eat and would sprinkle it over her food. She even intentionally cut her mouth by chewing the glass to make her story more realistic.
The police reported that Murphy had visited eleven restaurants in Stuart, FL, from September 15 to September 26 – claiming to find glass in her food “after eating most of her meals,” Local 10 News reports.
After Murphy reported the hazard, the restaurants would either eat the cost of the meal, or offer gift cards and free food.
The police were eventually tipped off about Murphy’s crime spree after restaurants started describing the same woman on social media, coming into their establishments and making the same claims.
“The mistake that she made was this is a tight knit community. A lot of the restaurant owners and employees know each other,” said Sgt. Michael German to WPTV.
The pressure of social media forced Murphy to turn herself in, where police found more glass shards in her purse.
In total, the police say Murphy cost restaurants hundreds of dollars in comped meals, gift cards, lost tips and lost food, as well as damaged the reputation of some servers and restaurants.
Murphy originally claimed that she did it because she couldn’t afford the food, but later a manager said Murphy confessed she did it for the adrenaline rush – a high she was searching for after she had quit drugs and alcohol.
Just before her arrest, Murphy was hired to work as a server in the area.

FL Naval nurses booted over disturbing pics, posts of ‘mini Satan’ newborns
Nurses at a naval hospital in Florida have been booted from their posts after sick photos went viral of them rudely posing with newborn babies and referring to the tots as “mini Satans.”
One of the pics posted to Snapchat shows Allyson Thompson, a corpsman at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, flipping the bird to a baby who’s wrapped in a blanket, along with the caption, “How I currently feel about these mini Satans,” according to Action News Jacksonville.
In another photo, Thompson grins as she holds a baby up by its arms. The pic was shared by a woman who identified the employee as a “navy nurse” who made the newborn dance to rap music, First Coast News reported.
The rogue staffers have been “removed from patient care,” the hospital said in a statement.
“We are aware of a video/photo posted online. It’s outrageous, unacceptable, incredibly unprofessional, and cannot be tolerated,” the hospital said. “We have identified the staff members involved. They have been removed from patient care and they will be handled by the legal system and military justice. We’re in the process of notifying the patient’s parents.”
Thompson and Barrett could not immediately be reached.

Wife arrested for punching husband after he interrupted her ‘pleasuring herself’
A Florida woman punched her husband in the face after he burst into her bedroom while she was pleasuring herself — because he thought he heard her having sex with another man, police said.
Flavia Higgs, a 42-year-old licensed private investigator, was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after the wild ordeal in the bedroom of their Port St. Lucie home on Sept. 7, according to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun.
Higgs’ 43-year-old husband, Garrett — who had been living in a separate bedroom from his estranged wife for more than a year — told a responding officer that he returned home and heard “moaning from the house” before walking toward the room and knocking on the door.
“He banged and she would not answer the door,” according to the police report. “He said he thought there was another man in his house and he used a screwdriver to open the door.”
Once he barged in, his humiliated wife tried to stop her husband and “physically escort him out” of the room as he tried to push past her and pushed her arm against a wall. She then struck Higgs in the face, the report states.
“He wasn’t sure if it was open or closed handed,” according to the report. “When this happened they both started screaming and yelling and she called 911.”
Flavia Higgs later confirmed to the officer that she had been “pleasuring herself” inside the room when her estranged husband came home. She was arrested since she was the first person to “initiate physical contact,” according to the responding officer.
No injuries were reported. Flavia Higgs, who is listed on a state website as a licensed private investigator, was booked into St. Lucie County Jail and was later released, according to jail records.
Indian Man’s Parents Fly To Florida To Beat Son’s Wife For Being ‘Disobedient,’ Police Say
Florida police rescued an Indian woman Saturday who was beaten by her husband and his parents who traveled from India to help assist him with the assault.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Silky Gaind, 33, called her parents in India to tell them of the abuse. They then called the authorities.
Police said Gaind was being held in the Riverview home by her husband Devbir Kalsi, 33, and his parents Jasbir, 67, and Bhupinder Kalsi, 61, who traveled from India to help their son “counsel and discipline his wife for being disobedient” after he asked for their assistance, according to Fox 13.
When a deputy arrived at the residence, no one responded to a repeated knock. Then Gaind attempted to open the door and screamed for him to help her and her 1-year-old daughter.
The deputy forced his way in despite Kalsi trying to keep the door closed. While the deputy started to handcuff Kalsi, his parents confronted the officer, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Kalsi and Gaind argued Friday night where he battered her “repeatedly and forcefully,” according to the arrest report. Kalsi’s parents started striking her after Gaind attempted to defend herself. The infant was accidentally struck in the face while Gaind was holding her during the attack, the report stated.
Kalsi was threatened with a knife by Jasbir Kalsi. After the incident, Gaind was locked in a room and her cell phone was taken from her.
“Awful, nobody should go through that,” an unidentified neighbor told Fox 13. “It really is heartbreaking. There’s a brand new baby. But who beats their wife up and his mother and dad help him? Who does that?”
Devbir and Jasbir Kalsi may face “charges of false imprisonment, child abuse and denying access to 911,” according to the Tampa Bay Times. Devbir Kalso also could face felony battery charge, and Jasbir Kalsi was accused of “aggravated battery with a deadly weapon,” the paper reported. Bhupinder Kalsi could face “charges of battery domestic violence and failure to report child abuse.”
They were all booked into Hillsborough County Jail and were being held without bond. Fox 13 reported that the three could face deportation back to India. Gaind and her infant were put in a safe place, the sheriff’s office said.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
