Dad died in burning Tesla because its futuristic doors wouldn’t open
A Tesla driver burned to death after a crash because the “futuristic handles” on his car trapped him inside and rescuers couldn’t open the doors, it is claimed.
Dr. Omar Awan, 48, lost control of his car, skidded across a road and smashed straight into a palm tree in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in February.
Smoke and then flames engulfed his blue Model S Tesla shortly after the crash.
A police officer arrived almost immediately, and crowds gathered outside the vehicle, but no one was able to save the father of five because of the “inaccessible door handles,” a lawsuit claims.
The car’s retractable door handles are meant to “auto-present” or pop out when they detect a key fob nearby.
But it malfunctioned, stopping first responders from opening the doors and saving Awan, it is claimed.
His loved ones are now suing the electric car company for wrongful death, alleging the car’s lithium-ion battery caught fire.
The smoke from this suffocated Awan and burned him from his feet upwards, it claimed.
The complaint said the car burned for hours, reigniting several times even after firefighters extinguished the flames and also when it was being towed away.
The lawsuit added: “After the Tesla hit the tree, he was alive. He had no internal injuries or broken bones.
He died from the smoke he inhaled as he sat locked inside the Tesla, despite that a police officer and others were there and ready to help, until flames forced them away.
“The fire engulfed the car and burned Dr. Awan beyond recognition — all because the Model S has inaccessible door handles, no other way to open the doors, and an unreasonably dangerous fire risk.”
The Sun has contacted Tesla for a statement.
The company’s lawyers have not yet responded in court.
Tesla, the maker of electric vehicles, claimed the Model S once achieved the “best safety rating of any car tested.”
Awan’s family lawyer Stuart Grossman described the victim as environmentally sensitive and safety conscious.
He insisted Awan could afford a Mercedes or another luxury vehicle but went with the 2016 Tesla because of its safety.
He added: “These things, they just love to burn. The car is so over-engineered.
“It’s so techy, it makes you want to buy a Chevy pickup truck.”
After the incident, Tesla said in a statement: “We understand that speed is being investigated as a factor in this crash, and know that high-speed collisions can result in a fire in any type of car, not just electric vehicles.”
His family is seeking more than $15,000 in damages.
The emergency guide says: “If the door handles do not function, open the door manually by reaching inside the window and using the interior door handle.”
It is not the first time Tesla has been blamed for a death.
In May 2018, Barrett Riley and his friend Edgar Monserratt, both 18, died when they lost control of Riley’s dad’s car at 116 mph.
Dad James Riley claimed Tesla is at fault for the speed, fire and the teens’ deaths.

Azealia Banks wrote a song about executing Elon Musk
Azealia Banks teased new music on her Instagram Tuesday night, and one song in particular, “96’Corolla (Motorman),” seems to be a thinly-veiled fantasy about executing Elon Musk.
The song is about an “ungrateful technocrat who’s [sic] ego becomes too big for his britches,” according to the since-deleted post. The song’s villain, Alon Dust, is plotting to use the brains of the poor to power his neural network, Neuralink. But things go sideways when Neuralink recognizes Dust himself as a threat. The AI overlord, played by Banks in the song (but originally written for Poppy, according to the Instagram post), decides to cut the technocrat’s neural activity off via satelite, “rendering him a vegetable and erasing him as a threat to humanity.”
Banks has had a bone to pick with Musk since last August, when she flew to LA to collaborate on a single with his girlfriend Claire Boucher, aka Grimes. Banks alleged Grimes never showed and she was left alone to wander Musk’s mansion “for days” and said it was “like a real life episode of Get Out.”
In a string of mostly now-deleted Instagram posts, Banks railed against the singer and the tech tycoon, calling Grimes a “dirty-sneaker-inbred-out of the woods Pabst beer pussy methhead-junkie” and Musk a “trash ass beta male” with “pork skin.”
The rapper is hardly the first to compare Musk to a Bond villain-in-the-making, but the fact that her song clearly and specifically envisions the execution of a powerful public figure throws the ethics and legality of her creativity into question. Freedom of Speech debates rage in America today, and many of the arguments involve social media.
In 2014, a man named Anthony Elonis was sentenced to 44 months in prison for a series of posts he made on Facebook, mostly in the form of rap lyrics, threatening to harm his estranged wife and a female police officer. Elonis ended many of the posts with the lines, “Art is about pushing limits. I’m willing to go to jail for my constitutional rights. Are you?” In 2015, the US Supreme Court heard his case on appeal to settle the narrow legal standard of what constitutes a “true threat” versus harmless creative fantasizing. The justices reversed Elonis’ conviction in an 8-1 decision — but they didn’t decide the case on First Amendment grounds. The court said the government just couldn’t prove whether Elonis intended to act from his Facebook alone.
It’s unclear how Banks’ foray into “revenge art” will play out in the court of public opinion or the actual legal system. But she arguably knows Musk and Grimes personally. She could potentially harbor ill-will towards them. But come on, “96’Corolla (Motorman)” is a work of science fiction. There’s no way Banks would advocate for actual violent revolution against the capitalists, right?

Grimes, Azealia Banks subpoenaed in lawsuit over Elon Musk’s bad weed tweet
In some very 2019 news, pop stars Grimes (née Claire Boucher) and Azealia Banks have been subpoenaed in the ongoing lawsuit over Elon Musk’s bad tweet. You remember the one: In August, he announced that he might be taking Tesla private at $420 a share, a figure that turned out to be a wildly miscalculated weed joke. Now, the SEC is suing him for misleading investors, and, due to their very public feud, the two artists may hold some key information.
See, it began with some now-deleted Instagram posts from Banks, who shared the sordid tale of a weekend with Musk and Grimes, his girlfriend. Banks was allegedly at his L.A. home to collaborate on a song with Grimes, but claimed she was ignored “while Grimes coddled her boyfriend for being too stupid to know not to go on Twitter on acid.” Guess which tweet that was! “I saw him in the kitchen tucking his tail in between his legs scrounging for investors to cover his ass after that tweet,” she later added in an interview with Business Insider. Banks added even more fuel to the fire when she shared encrypted Signal messages between her and Grimes, who bragged about introducing Musk to weed and noted that he’s “super entertained by 420” and set the price of his stock at 420 “for a laugh.”
The subpoenas won’t require Grimes and Banks to testify in court. Rather, they require the two to preserve any communications, online or otherwise, that could be considered evidence.
Musk, meanwhile, still has a Twitter account.

Elon Musk Responds to Azealia Banks’ Claims of Ghosting, Tweeting, and LSD: I Don’t Know Her
Azealia Banks, the prodigious MC who remains a Twitter villain even after being banned from the service and an underground rapper even after being dropped from multiple record labels, let loose on Instagram after an allegedly disastrous weekend at Elon Musk’s home to see Grimes, Musk’s girlfriend and a fellow musician.
However, when reached via Twitter direct messages, Musk told Gizmodo that he “has never even met [Banks] or communicated with her in any way.” In other words, he doesn’t know her.
A Tesla spokesperson told our sister site, Jalopnik, that the claims were “complete nonsense,” but Banks is a veteran of long and nonsensical beefs. She’s feuded with everyone from Sarah Palin to Nick Cannon. And, like both Musk’s Space X endeavors, wants her future beefs to be interplanetary.
Like a dystopian epistolary novel about two feuding houses, Banks told her side of the story via a breathtaking and scattered stream of Instastories. There’s a damsel in distress (Banks, left alone in the mansion), enigmatic villains (Grimes and Musk), and heady oppression metaphors (Banks compares the entire ordeal of having her time wasted to white colonization of Africa.)
According to Banks, she spent the past few days at the Musk estate in LA, hoping to finish a song with Grimes for her upcoming sophomore album. The collaboration never came to fruition. Banks alleges Grimes ignored her for days, the first point in a deeply absurd comedy of errors that Banks describes as “a real [life] episode of ‘Get Out.’”
“I waited all weekend while grimes coddled her boyfriend for being too stupid to know not to go on twitter while on acid,” Banks posted. “It was probably some weird threesome sex shit to being with.”
Banks and Grimes, however, have been teasing a collaboration on Twitter for months in advance of Bank’s new album. But rather than cut her losses and simply fly back to New York in silence, Banks went on a separate Insta-rant that began as a delirious critique of colonial wealth and racial privilege, became a vaguely eugenicist denigration of Musk as a caveman, and ended, ultimately, on a few lines that will probably appear on her album in lieu of Grimes. (Gizmodo, it should be noted, could not verify all of these messages were sent by Banks, which were captured by other reporters but have apparently been deleted since.)
“Elon Musk is really part of the problem…when you talk about white male privilege and colonialism,” it begins. “The last time I try working with a white bitch,” it ends.

Article via: Azealia Banks Currently “At Elon Musk’s House Alone For Days Waiting For Grimes”
Azealia Banks is still working on her new album Fantasea II: The Second Wave, and last month, she revealed that there’s a song with Grimes on it. “Omg I’m listening to f2!!! All the songs are finished except lorelei and grimes song,” she tweeted. “I have a session next week with Alex Carapetis to lock lorelei down. Then I go to LA to finish grimes and oh yes!! Finish Paradiso two! But daaaaaaaamn there’s some heat!”
Grimes liked the tweet, but it appears that the sessions didn’t exactly go as planned — or at all. “Literally been sitting at Elon Musk’s house alone for days waiting for Grimes to show up and start these sessions,” Azealia Banks wrote on her Instagram story today. “I have no idea when she is coming back. I’m going to wait one more day then I’m going to go home.”
Apparently, it’s very easy to get into Elon Musk’s house.
