Donald Glover and Rihanna’s mysterious movie project has a mysterious leaked trailer
Back in August, we reported that Donald Glover and Rihanna were working on something together in Cuba, possibly with frequent Glover collaborator (and This Is America director) Hiro Murai. It was one of those things where fan pages we had never heard of had somehow gotten big inside scoops, which somehow makes them seem more trustworthy even though their veracity was impossible to prove, with the general consensus being that Murai was directing Glover and Rihanna in a movie that may or may not have been called Guava Island. As we noted at the time, though, it was entirely possible that the fan rumors were totally wrong and that the three of them were just hanging out in Cuba.
Now, even though there has been some Guava Island-related movement, we’re still not entirely convinced that it’s a real thing. Over the weekend, Glover held his PHAROS festival in New Zealand and showed off a trailer for Guava Island that seemingly confirms it’s both real and a movie, and though the trailer hasn’t been publicly released, there is a fan-filmed version floating around on social media.
There are a handful of interesting things in this trailer (Letitia Wright!), but one thing we want to point out is that it bills the movie as a “Childish Gambino film,” connecting it to Glover’s musical artist persona, which sort of implies to us that it’s related to Glover’s musical career and not his acting career. Either way, everything we know about the movie is courtesy of leaks, so we’ll have a better idea about all of this when/if it actually gets announced/released.

The Lion King 2019 VS Original 1994 Shot By Shot Comparison
Take a look at the new Lion King, compared to the old:
‘The Lion King’ Cast Gathers For Behind-The-Scenes Photo Sans Beyoncé
The circle of life for every animated Disney classic is that it will eventually be remade into a live-action film ― and “The Lion King” is next.
Filming for the Jon Favreau-directed feature kicked off in summer 2017, but the all-star cast, which includes Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala, is apparently still hard at work providing voices for the beloved animated characters.
Favreau shared a Beyoncé-less behind-the-scenes photo of some of the movie’s stars on his Twitter account Wednesday, teasing what could be the recording of “Hakuna Matata.”
In the photo, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner, who play the iconic duo Timon and Pumba, pose alongside Glover and Favreau.
The characters in the film all sing the anthem together, so it’s not much of a stretch to assume this crew was deep into the “no worries” mode.
Rogen and Eichner also shared the photo on their own social media accounts.
Despite Bey’s absence from the recording session, we do know that Glover, at least, has worked with her, which he understandably described as a “little intimidating.”
“Just hearing her do it, it’s been like, ‘Man, this is a really special thing,’” Glover told “Entertainment Tonight” in May.
Eichner admitted he’s also had some trouble keeping his cool around big-name stars on set.
“I was freaking out,” the “Difficult People” alum told E! News. “I mean, the cast is amazing. Me and Seth Rogen are Timon and Pumbaa, so we do ‘Hakuna Matata’ and then we also sing ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ with Simba and Nala, who are going to be voiced by Donald Glover and someone who is named Beyoncé.”
Oh yeah? We think we’ve heard of her.
“The Lion King,” which is set to hit theaters July 19, 2019, also stars James Earl Jones, John Oliver, JD McCrary, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Alfre Woodard.

Creepy character from Donald Glover’s ‘Atlanta’ was at the Emmys
Teddy Perkins appeared Monday night at the Microsoft Theater in the same attire as worn on the comedy-drama on the show, sporting a red velvet dinner jacket, heavy white makeup, prosthetics and a bob cut wig. The character was played by the show’s star, Donald Glover, but it’s unclear whether the actor-singer dressed up as Perkins, who became a main attraction in the crowd and social media taking selfies during commercial breaks.
Perkins congratulated Bill Hader, who won an Emmy for best actor in a television comedy over Glover — last year’s winner.
Even Hader had no idea who was dressed up as Perkins.
“I don’t know who it was, but I know it was that guy from ‘Atlanta,'” Hader said backstage.
When Glover was shown in the crowd, Perkins was not around.
Perkins became one of the most intriguing figures during “Atlanta’s” second season because of his eerie appearance. The character tricked Darius, played by LaKeith Stanfield, into visiting his home.

Childish Gambino Collaborator Denies “This Is America” Plagiarism Allegations
Fans have suggested that Donald Glover “stole” his No. 1 single from NYC rapper Jase Harley
One of Donald Glover’s creative partners has denied claims that Glover “stole” the music for his No. 1 single“This Is America” from a March 2016 song called “American Pharaoh” by New York rapper Jase Harley. Fam Rothstein is a co-principal of the creative agency Wolf + Rothstein (which is comprised of himself, Donald Glover, and Wolf Taylor), and he also co-produced the music video for “This Is America.”
This morning, in response to a user who claimed that Glover “stole the song,” Rothstein tweeted: “The internet is a place of no consequences. I hate that Toronto Akademiks/every white blogger can say something as gospel and y’all take it. This song is 3 yrs old, and we have Pro Tools files to prove it.” Find his tweet below.

Allegations of plagiarism against Glover surfaced on Reddit this past weekend, with Redditors citing comments on Jase Harley’s Instagram. Someone wrote to Harley, “People are saying Donald Glover bit your song ‘American Pharoah’ with ‘This Is America.’ What do you think?” Harley responded, “I always felt my song inspired it lol from the first time I heard it.”
Harley added, “It’s cool tho…. Glad they liked my song. It’s all love.” He also wrote that “a shout out would be cool,” that it’s “dope [he] could’ve had some influence on the record,” and that “all artist get inspired by others.” Find Harley’s Instagram post below.
