Thousands Of Disney+ Accounts Are Up For Sale On Hacking Forums
Disney’s hotly-anticipated streaming service Disney+ finally launched this week. Despite being open to the public for just a few days, hackers have already hijacked thousands of accounts and put them up for sale on the Dark Web.
Reporting for ZDNet, Catalin Cimpanu discovered several listings for Disney+ accounts on different underground hacking forums. The going rate for a hacked account appears to be somewhere between $3 and $5.
That’s three to four times more than the asking price for a hacked Netflix account. Logical enough, given the excitement around the Disney+ launch.
So how is it possible that these accounts – many of which are just a few days old – have already been taken over by hackers? I haven’t seen any reports confirming the root cause, but it seems likely that bad habits are to blame.
One bad habit in particular: password re-use.
You should never, ever use the same password for multiple websites or online services. Security professionals have been repeating this refrain for years.
Their warnings often fall on deaf ears, unfortunately. To users creating yet another account, it can feel like too much trouble to come up with a unique password to protect it.
When you’re creating a new account – whether for a hot new service like Disney+ or any other – remind yourself that hackers are always lurking in the shadows and ready to attack.
They’re armed with billions of email addresses (likely including yours) and billions of previously-used passwords. Using automated brute-forcing tools they can quickly break into accounts en masse.
Recovering a compromised account can be tricky, too. Once a hacker has gained access they tend to move quickly. They revoke access to authorized devices and then change passwords to prevent users from logging back in. They’ll change the email address associated with an account, too, which stops users from using automated password reset tools to regain access.
If you’re getting ready to sign up for Disney+ – or any other service, for that matter – get yourself a password manager first. Use it to create a unique password and let it remember that password for you.
Otherwise you may find yourself fighting to regain access to your account before you even have a chance to enjoy what you’ve signed up for.
I’ve reached out to Disney for a comment on the situation will update this post with its response.

Anika Noni Rose, Voice Of Princess Tiana, Breaks Silence On ‘Ralph Breaks The Internet’ Controversy
Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Princess Tiana in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, released a statement on her her Instagram about the role she has played in Disney’s decision to make modifications to the design of Tiana for the character’s cameo in the upcoming Ralph Breaks the Internet.
Rose says that she was surprised when she first saw the cg version of the character, and noted reactions online and her DMs, before deciding to reach out to the studio.
She was invited to the studio three weeks ago to meet with the Ralph Breaks the Internet crew, as well as animator Mark Henn, who was the lead animator of Tiana in The Princess and the Frog. During the meeting, Henn showed her “the steps they were taking to bring those things back that got lost in the move from hand drawn to cgi,” such as the character’s richer skin tone and rounded nose.
“It was important to me to hear what Disney had to say,” Rose said, “and to have an open dialogue about legacy and representation. They did not have to make time to give me a presentation on the process, but I’m very glad that they did.”
Rose’s full statement from her Instagram account can be read below:
I’ve been very quiet on this subject because it was important for me to do my due diligence before publicly addressing something as near and dear to my heart (and face) as Princess Tiana.
This summer new images were released where she looked very different, with lighter skin and much sharper features. I was as surprised as most of her & my fans were. Aside from my personal feelings, I noted how people felt online (and in my dms) and I was glad to see that people are still very much in love with and supportive of our Princess.
My team and I immediately put in a call to the studio to talk about the visual changes, and three weeks ago I had a meeting in person with the Wreck it Ralph team, my original animator Mark Henn, and others.
They explained how cgi animation did different things to the characters’ color tones in different light compared to hand drawn original characters, and I was able to express how important it is to the little girls (and let’s face it, grown women) who felt represented by her that her skin tone stay as rich as it had been, and that her nose continue to be the little round nose that Mark so beautifully rendered in the movie; the same nose on my very own face and on many other little brown faces around the world, that we so rarely get to see represented in fantasy.
When we were making Princess and The Frog I’ll never forget Mark asking me if there were any things I wished to see on her, and among the first things I said were a round nose, full lips, and that she be left handed. He made certain to incorporate these things as he created my likeness as a Princess then, and he sat with me in this meeting showing me the steps they were taking to bring those things back that got lost in the move from hand drawn to CGI.
It was important to me to hear what Disney had to say, and to have an open dialogue about legacy and representation. They did not have to make time to give me a presentation on the process, but I’m very glad that they did.
I also appreciate that this far into the process Disney had enough care and respect for all who love Princess Tiana and her legacy to spend the time and money to make the adjustments necessary. In doing so, they recognize that her legacy is also their legacy; two things I’m very proud to be a part of.
Here I am leaving the studios after our meeting. It never gets old walking those halls and being a part of something so very special. Thank you for continuing to love and support Princess Tiana. I’m sure you know that she loves you right back.

Disney star Adam Hicks arrested on suspicion of a ‘string of armed street robberies’
Hulu series Freakish‘s Adam Hicks of the and Danni Tamburo were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of committing multiple armed robberies.
Hicks “was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with a string of armed street robberies that occurred yesterday morning,” Sgt. Derek Green of the Burbank Police Department in Los Angeles initially told EW over email. Hicks is due in court tomorrow.
According to a news release sent to media in the early afternoon on Thursday, a 52-year-old walking in Burbank was approached by “a male armed with a handgun,” who demanded the victim’s wallet. The gentleman was able to escape safely, but three additional robberies occurred in the same area within minutes of each other as authorities were investigating the first crime.
Tamburo was suspected to have been driving the vehicle “during the commission of the robberies.”
Police were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle as a dark-colored Kia based on descriptions from victims and witnesses. “Officers found property with the vehicle belonging to one of the robbery victims, and additional stolen property in a nearby area,” the press release reads.
Reps for Hicks did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
Before debuting as Diesel on Freakish, a series about high school students battling mutants, Hicks appeared in various movies and television shows — including The Boy Next Door, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Disney’s Pair of Kings and Lemonade Mouth, and Disney XD’s Zeke and Luther.
