Teen suffocated nephew after he asked to play video games
A Colorado teen girl faces murder charges after she allegedly suffocated her nephew then hid his body inside a closet, according to authorities.
Jennie Bunsom, 16, was identified as the suspect in the death of 7-year-old Jordan Vong, who was reported missing Aug. 6 before his body was found at his Denver home, according to the Denver Post.
Bunsom allegedly killed the boy, who asked her to play video games with him, wrapped his body in a blanket and stuffed it in her bedroom closet.
Police obtained a warrant the next day to enter the family’s home and discovered the boy’s body hidden, according to officials.
“[Bunsom] didn’t tell any of her family what she had done to Jordan because she was afraid,” a probable cause statement obtained by the Denver Post said. “Nor did she tell any of her family where she had hid Jordan.”
The teen girl appeared in court Tuesday morning where it was ruled that she will face first-degree murder charges as an adult.

Denver Teen Accused of Suffocating Newborn Daughter by Shoving Rock Down Her Throat
A 16-year-old Denver girl is facing first degree murder charges after her baby was found dead with a rock in her throat, according to autopsy results released Wednesday.
Denver police said that a woman called 911 around 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 8 and said that her daughter, Alaya Dotson, gave birth and that the baby was on the ground in the backyard and “looked dead,” KTLA sister station KDVR in Denver reported.
She was named because authorities have charged her as an adult.
The baby, Amekah Dotson, was transported from the home in the 5800 block of Biscay Street to Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead after they removed a rock that was lodged in the baby’s throat.
Alaya Dotson’s mother told police that her daughter was sitting on the patio with a blanket wrapped around her. After leaving to make soup, she came back and discovered that Alaya had blood on her shirt and that the blanket was on the ground.
Alaya told police that her mother startled her, so after her mother went back inside, she “decided to pick up a rock that was on the ground and put it inside the baby’s mouth.”
She added that she “pushed the rock down the baby’s throat with her thumb” and then wrapped her in a blanket and placed her on the ground so when her mother grabbed the blanket, the baby “fell to the ground.”
Alaya’s mother did not know her daughter was pregnant and immediately called police.
Alaya also told police that “she did not know or believe she was pregnant.”
When police arrived, Alaya was also transported to University Hospital where she was arrested.
She is expected in court in January.

Denver Man Sentenced to 80 Years for Fatally Shooting Teen Who Allegedly Tried to Steal Marijuana Plant From Backyard
The shooting happened last October, according to KTLA sister station KDVR in Denver.
15-year-old Keylin Mosely was shot dead and his 14-year old friend was paralyzed over what family calls a stupid teenage prank.
“The boys were trying to steal a pot plant from the backyard of an illegal grow,” said Mosley’s cousin, Salina Mosley.
Family members said they forgive the man responsible, even though he’s still claiming to be innocent.
Outside the Denver District Courthouse Wednesday, Salina described her cousin who died nearly one year ago.
“A chocolate prince with a chocolate smile,” she said. “Very quiet, very observed, very fun, loving.”
It was in the early morning hours of Oct. 9 when Mosley and his 14-year-old friend hopped a fence attempting to steal a marijuana plant from the illegal backyard grow, according to Denver police.
“Keylin was not trying to kill, he was not trying to destroy and he was not trying to hurt nobody,” Salina said.
From the home’s second story window, prosecutors say 49-year-old Keith Hammock fired shots, hitting both boys. They say Hammock then came down to the alley to check his aim.
“He did not do CPR on Keylin,” Salina alleged. “He walked in the house and said, ‘They tried to rob me.’”
The family says the 14-year-old was on the phone with 911 when he was shot a second time by Hammock, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
Despite Hammock’s conviction, in Wednesday’s sentencing hearing he maintained his innocence, telling the judge he is the true victim and that he was not the one who fired the shots.
“We forgive him because we have to. We forgive him but life goes on, he knows what he did. He knows what happened that night. Keylin is gone,” Salina said, adding, all that matters is that justice has finally been served.
“He has to deal with what he did. When he comes to terms, that’s on him but we are moving on,” she said.
Hammock addressed the court before sentencing and said he suffered from ineffective counsel, a biased judge and a manufactured conviction. He said he will appeal his case.
Mother arrested, accused of using iron, power drill to abuse her two children
DENVER — Her pictures show Kinyaite Davis took good care of herself. Police say the same cannot be said for her two children.
“This is hard on us,” said her sister, who asked not to be identified.
She described the dark secrets and severe abuse that police say started when Davis’ two children were toddlers. They are ages 11 and 12. It was the sister who turned in Davis.
“It was a hard decision doing what I did for the kids. But, at the same time, it was easier for what I’ve seen personally as far as bruises and burns,” she said.
Police said the sister said both children made “outcry to her” of extensive physical abuse over five years. On one occasion, the son claimed his mother placed an iron against his shoulder and pushed the steam button, causing a large burn.
Worse, police say the daughter still has scars from when she was 8 years old. She told them it was from the mother driving a power drill though her hand as she tried to cover her face.
Police say when the children didn’t clean house, Davis punished them by beating them with a belt. When that didn’t work, she steamed them with the iron. Neighbors never suspected anything, but the family says Denver Health and Denver Health and Human Services did.
They say they recently learned the department visited the home three times in three years and must have seen the injuries.
“They knew and they didn’t do anything about it,” the sister said.
“No child should ever suffer abuse or neglect and our child welfare team takes all allegations reported to us very seriously,” Health and Human Services spokeswoman Julie Smith said. “Because all clients are afforded the right to privacy, we are not permitted to discuss specific cases. I can say that we are committed to protecting children and building up families.”
Davis is in custody facing two felony child abuse counts.
