Mom goes after ‘fight club’ day care
A Missouri mom claims her 4-year-old son was a victim of a “fight club” held at a St. Louis day care center — and that little has been done over the past two years to hold the teachers accountable.
Nicole Merseal shared shocking footage of brawls that she said involved her young son and claimed that teachers Mickala Guliford and Tena Dailey egged on the fights at Adventure Learning Center. She sued the facility in December 2016.
Guliford admitted to allowing the fighting, but said she merely meant it to be a “stress release exercise.”
Merseal said her 10-year-old son, who was with his older classmates in another room, filmed the incident through a window on his iPad after he saw his brother crying. He then texted his mother the video. Teachers were accused of forcing the younger boy to participate in three fights, Q13 Fox reported.
The newly released footage shows a teacher giving each child “hulk hands” before watching them wrestle one another to the floor. Merseal’s younger son wipes his tears away on the sidelines.
“My son was very afraid,” Merseal told ABC News.
“He didn’t understand why his best friends beat him up. These are children that he’s been around for a couple years. He described them as his best friends. He just doesn’t understand why they punched him in the face … I don’t know any parent that could watch their children go through this and not be upset.”
The fight occurred two years ago, but Merseal doesn’t think the teachers were held accountable enough for their actions. The teachers were fired but neither of them faced charges.
“I want them to be held accountable and I don’t want this to happen to any other child,” Merseal said.
Merseal also is seeking $25,000 in damages from the pre-school.
Inspectors visited the pre-school eight times since the incident and accounted for 26 violations.
One of those occurred in March 2018, when an inspector noticed a caregiver drag a 3-year-old by the arm. The pre-school director reportedly was in the room and did not respond.

Daycare used Magic Eraser on kids’ faces, caused chemical burns
Parents in Denver are searching for answers after their children received chemical burns at a daycare.
The parents believe a teacher is responsible for the chemical burns caused by an incident involving a magic eraser in May.
“The two teachers came up to me when I picked him up and said, ‘your son and another boy got into a marker fight.’ And immediately my son said ‘Mommy my throat hurts,” parent Caitlin Sims said.
Sims was the first parent to be notified about her child’s injuries.
“The teacher said, ‘oh, I’m so sorry. I must have been scrubbing you too hard when I cleaned you,” Sims said.
Joel and Stacy Dant did not find out about what happened to their son until hours later.
“It just looked red, like just redness was all. And then the next day was whenever it like really started to show,” Stacey said.
Both sets of parents returned days later to review surveillance video.
“It was the toughest thing that my wife and I have ever seen,” parent Josh Sims said.
They say the scabs on both of the boys’ faces does not show the real trauma.
“Pushing her thumb into his neck, ripped him backwards and pulled him over backwards, to the extent that he buckled,” Josh said.
The Dants and Sims’ say they started getting different stories from the school about what happened and what could be done.
“Frankly, we expected the school to advocate a little bit more for us,” Josh said.
Online records showed the school is under probation, but does not show any injuries or complaints in the past three years.
Child protective services told the Sims’ it could be a few more weeks before a report is ready.
The lawsuit filed is against the school, its parent company, and the teacher involved.
A statement from the school’s company says it has taken the appropriate steps and will continue their investigation.
Moms claim daycare workers waxed their kids’ eyebrows
A hairy mystery is unfolding in Washington state, where a pair of distressed moms claim a daycare center waxed their children’s eyebrows.
One of the moms told local outlets she noticed her 2-year-old daughter, Lilayiah, was missing a patch of hair and had reddened skin when she picked her up last week.
“I knew she was missing her patch of hair because she has a unibrow and she was born like that,” Alyssa Salgado, 19, told WLTX News.
“She had a couple of tears in her eyes,” she added.
The concerned mom reached out to the nursery, run by the Boys and Girls Club of Benton and Franklin counties on the Columbia Basin College campus in Pasco.
She also spoke with other moms, including Glenda Maria Cruz, who said her toddler son’s unibrow was plucked the same day.
“I tried to touch his face. He doesn’t let me touch his face. He says, ‘No, no, stop,’ and it hurts me because that’s my baby,” said Cruz.
The moms, who said the center’s director scoffed at their concerns, filed a report with police Monday, KNDO reported.
Officials with the Washington State Department of Early Learning, which licenses the daycare, visited Monday and said their investigation would likely take about 30 days.
The Boys and Girls Club said in a statement that it would cooperate in the probe.
“I hope they figure out who did that to my daughter,” Salgado said.
