White student tells Black student ‘You are my slave’ in school’s ‘Civil War Day’ has mom furious

News & Info

KENNESAW, Ga. — A new battle line has formed in the national debate over Civil War flags and symbols — this time at a Georgia school not far from a mountaintop where Confederate soldiers fired their cannons at Union troops more than a century ago.

The school near Kennesaw Mountain last month invited fifth-graders to dress up as characters from the Civil War.

A white student, dressed as a plantation owner, said to a 10-year-old black classmate, “You are my slave,” said the black child’s parent, Corrie Davis.

“What I want them to understand is the pain it caused my son,” Davis said of her child, who did not dress up that day. “This is bringing them back to a time when people were murdered, when people died, when people owned people.”

Davis recorded an emotional video in which she explains how she was affected by what happened to her son. It has attracted about 70,000 views on Facebook. The distraught mother said she met with school officials, but was dismayed when they refused to promise that they would never conduct a class in that way again. The issue could come to a head in a couple of weeks, when Davis plans to bring it up at a regularly scheduled school board meeting.

“No student was required to dress in period attire and any student that did so was not instructed, nor required, to dress in any specific attire,” school system spokesman John Stafford said in a brief statement. Cobb County school officials haven’t said whether the annual Civil War Day will continue next year at Big Shanty Intermediate School.

However, the note sent home to parents before the event said “it creates a more realistic simulation when dressing in Civil War clothing.”

Its suggestions included overalls — which Davis believes could have been meant to represent the clothing worn by slaves — and dark pants and white button-down shirts. White button-down shirts have become synonymous with demonstrators protesting the removal of Confederate statues in recent months. They were worn, for example, by some of the white nationalists who staged a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that led to violent clashes in August.

Communities around the country have removed Confederate monuments under pressure from those who say they honor a regime that enslaved African-Americans. The debate over such symbols intensified after a self-proclaimed white supremacist who had posed in a photo with the Confederate battle flag fatally shot nine black parishioners in a church in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015. And it has shown little signs of waning since the Charlottesville clashes that left one woman dead.

“BE CREATIVE and use your resources to ensure that your costume is as accurate as possible,” the Georgia school’s note informed parents. It included a small picture of a man in Civil War dress with what appears to be one of several flags used by the Confederate States of America.

“If they’re requiring that the costume be as accurate as possible … some kid is going to come to school dressed as a plantation owner,” Davis said in her video. “My son is going to be looked upon as a slave at the school.”

The best way to help students learn about difficult historical events such as the Civil War is to create an environment in which they can talk about them and learn different perspectives, said Andy Mink, a former Virginia teacher and now vice president of education programs at the National Humanities Center, a nonprofit organization that works to strengthen teaching.

“I think the best reason to teach history is to teach empathy,” said Mink, who works with schools nationwide on teaching strategies.

“The question we have to ask is whether or not dressing in a particular outfit is really achieving a learning outcome of some kind.”

Davis said she doesn’t object to learning about the Civil War. “I’m simply saying the way in which you are going about teaching this standard is offensive,” she said.

Earlier this month, students in Georgia’s largest school system, Gwinnett County, were asked in a class studying the rise of Nazism to come up with ideas for mascots that might have been used as propaganda for the Nazi party. Gwinnett County schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach said it wasn’t appropriate, and that the matter was being addressed with the teacher.

“We don’t want to do things in our classrooms that would intentionally provide traumatic experiences for young people,” said Sandra Schmidt, associate professor of social studies education at Teachers College at Columbia University.

Schmidt said educators have been aware of the possible pitfalls of student role-playing exercises since the late 1960s’ “Blue Eyes-Brown Eyes” experiment, in which Iowa teacher Jane Elliott designated blue-eyed students as superior to brown-eyed peers.

“She quickly realized how out of hand it got,” Schmidt said.

Davis said she won’t back down in her effort to stop the dress-up aspect of the school’s Civil War Day. She said she doesn’t want other students going through what her son did.

“What they can do is say, ‘We’re not going to do this anymore,’” Davis said. “It is mind-boggling to me that no one will say that.”

Oxford man dies in car crash after Confederate Flag rally

News & Info

book cf

Coming home from the confederate flag rally in Alabama Author Anthony Harvey 49 died Sunday July 19th when his 2005 Ford explore flipped over near the Pontotoc County just before noon.

No one deserves to die but I believe when you’ve spent half your life believing in a LIE and then writing about it as I read his quote from his book “Why I Wave the Confederate Flag” he clearly has TRIED to form his twisted opinion into FACT. (No I have not read the book but have read a page or two to know that this book is BS) He wrote a book based off of NOTHING but fictional imagination he’s wanting so much to prove to the world that The Civil War was not fought over slavery and that the demise of his race is not of the white man, but rather of our own making. WOW that was very hard for me to read I guess we all can agree to disagree and I do feel bad that he died thinking we as a people of color in America ran away from physical bondage to one far worse–mental bondage. I pray that we as a nation can TRULY see that damn confederate flag is nothing more than hate and separate but equal (UEQUAL) and this history has brainwashed a lot of our people of color. I Pray that he at least recognized his forefathers fought for his freedom.

It’s a sad day in Dixie’: Twitter racists sink into depression spiral after South Carolina removes flag

News & Info

white man cry 2

Well boo-hoo I still can’t believe these hard-core racist  South Carolinians are STILL crying about THAT, FLAG THAT DAMN CONFEDERATE FLAG, that was a symbol of HATE and divide, Jim Crow  separate but equal (unequal) it is a representation of THEIR WHITE Southern pride. Okay can any of ya’ll who’s reading this tell me WHY would ANYONE want a flag  that meant NOTHING but separate restaurants, restrooms, movie theaters was even separated black folk had to sit WAAAAY up on the balconies way from the white folk WE BLACK FOLK didn’t even get the RIGHT TO VOTE! We meant NOTHING to the white people they probably (NOT probably I know)  spit  on us if we was close enough. Black folks were not even to look you in the eye. How is this PRIDE? You white folks with your snotty noses and puffy eyes NEED to get off Twitter, Istagram; Facebook and GET A REAL BOOK and read YOUR TRUE history of this vile Confederate Flag you hold so dear to hearts and racist bigoted souls. YOU DO KNOW THE SOUTH LOST THE WAR a 150 years ago right?  (April 10th 1865 to be exact) the NORTH WON, Slavery was NO MORE. As I sit and read the tweets and comments on Facebook I’m not surprised at these two faced racist biased people social media sure does bring out the bravery in everyone especially racists they tell it like  THEY SEE it is and don’t give a shits ass what levelheaded sensible and non racists white folk and people of color think.
These tweets I’m seeing are almost comical but sad at the same time because these ignorant or maybe even naïve people really want to hold on to that cloth of HATE. That flag was even printed on every merchandise that could be thought of even our selective outraged celebrities like Kanye West and Ludicrous ( I forgot what Ludicrous  said but I know it was some BS) TRIED to EXPLAIN their reason for sporting the confederate flag symbol as fashion.
West said, in a Radio interview “So I made this song called “New Slaves” (I believe the  lyrics have something to do with the confederate flag No  I have not nor will ever listen to the song)   So I  took the confederate flag and made it my flag. It’s my flag now what you gonna do now?”  I’m like wtf did I just hear him say? Kanye wants his fans to wear the confederate flag as a logo  for his clothing line? Where’s the eye roll button?
Nothing these celebs could say justifies their reasoning for branding something so hateful.
Subconsciously or consciously we have good or racist white folk  living in THEIR 3D world of defense, denial; delusion.
 1) Defensive These folks get DEFENSIVE when people of color and like minded white folk call them  OUT on their IGNORANT, BULLSHIT! Okay I’ll be fair when  THEY ASK we TRY to educate them on why the confederate flag is NOT something to be proud of.
We remind them that BELOVED confederate flag they  hold so dear to their “Heritage” IS NOTHING MORE THEN A  SYMBOL OF HATE!
2) l Denial When these white  folk  read or hear the TRUTH they (SOME)  get DEAF , DUMB , STUBORN AND STUPID .
These tweets I’m seeing are almost comical but sad at the same time because these ignore it or maybe even naïve people (and a few token blacks)  really want to hold on to that cloth of HATE. That flag was even printed on every merchandise that could be thought of even our selective outraged celebrities like Kanye West and Ludicrous TRIED to EXPLAIN their reason for sporting the confederate flag symbol as fashion.
Nothing they could say justifies their reasoning of wearing something so hateful. They ignore the fact the South LOST the WAR! As we watched this past week of the historic day of taking down the  confederate flag it was not folded like the American Flag.
As we watched  the live telecast of the multiracial honor guard of South Carolina troopers wearing dress-grey uniforms with white gloves  carefully folded and rolled YOUR precious confederate flag like a homemade cinnamon roll then with such precision marched YOUR FLAG you hold so dear to your heart to one hand to the next. The North WON the South so we POC could be free!
3) Delusion You want to BELIEVE what YOU were told you don’t want to see the facts that is presented in front of you.
You live in a Fantasy world where sing smell and look like roses and if something STINKS you cover it up with a Glade plug -ins and keep in movin’. If you see racism or bias  behavior you turn your backs, turn your head; denied ever it ever happened you proceeded see what YOU want. ALL you racist MOTHAFUKKAS are DELUSIONAL You want to convince YOURSELF that the confederate flag is a virtue of heritage and pride but who are you convincing if you ask me (which I KNOW you did not) is YOURSELF and ALL your bigoted racist white supremacist friends; cohorts a like that YOU DIDN’T loose the WAR and people of color are still slaves and you the massa and we slaves would still  be picking cotton in the Cotton fields and we is still  be beneath you. RACISM is an UGLY thing in order for our GREAT nation to heal is to eradicate and open your eyes, ears and mind to CHANGE! Now go blow your snotty nose and make a difference or if you don’t wanna do that just sit and cry into a bucket awhile looking at a picture of your great, great granddaddy  holding the confederate flag or go to the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum and take a picture of your precious confederate flag that placed in it’s multimillion dollar case.
With a bit more ceremony than it probably deserved, the state of South Carolina removed the flag of the Confederacy from in front of the state capital Friday…

Florida county votes to fly Confederate flag once again

News & Info

CF

OCALA, Fla. (AP) – As lawmakers in South Carolina consider removing the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds, a north Florida county has decided to do the opposite.
The Marion County Commission voted Tuesday unanimously to again fly the Confederate flag in front of a government building, weeks after it had been taken down.

The interim county administrator had removed the flag at the McPherson Governmental Complex in Ocala, joining other communities across the South and nationwide that took down or reconsidered Confederate symbols after the June 17 killing of nine black people at a Charleston, South Carolina, church. A white man who appeared in photos waving Confederate flags is charged.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports that several citizens spoke in favor of restoring the flag.

Now why after a 21 year old  white supremacist and terrorist  named Dylan Roff  from South Carolina who went into a church of worship then killed his 9 unsuspecting God loving people who it seems only worshiped the confederate flag and his white supremacist  allies.  In his writings  he  explicit that he HATED people of color and everything that we as a people stand for?  It took this terrorist act for the local and state  government to make a rather I believe a small decision to take the Confederate flag down from the South Carolina Statehouse but no it has become a debate that shouldn’t be a debate. The confederate flag is symbol of HATE and foul dislike for people of color. He CHOOSE an historically Black church known for coming together as a people of ALL RACES to end segregation; racism.  This flag that most Carolinas hold so dear to their heart and soul; say “It’s a part of our Heritage!” I SAY NO IT’S A SYMBOL FOR SEPARATE BUT EQUAL!  A lot of our black folks  (except for three) want that flag to fly NO MORE!
This vile flag was removed  from all retail stores; merchandise was removed online and off. TVLand removed The Dukes of Hazard from it’s TV line up. So why on earth would Florida want to fly confederate flag high above the sky? I say The Confederate flag and a gun just don’t mix.
