Chance the Rapper marries longtime love Kirsten Corley
Article via FoxNews
Chance the Rapper married his childhood sweetheart, Kirsten Corley, this weekend — and shared a sweet story of how they met when he was just 9 years old.
The Grammy winner, 25, and Corley, tied the knot at the Cook County Clerk’s Office in December, The Chicago Tribune reported, but celebrated their nuptials at the Pelican Hill resort in Newport Beach, Calif., on Saturday.
Guests included fellow Chicago native Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and comedian Dave Chappelle.
A spy told E! News, “After the ceremony, Kim and Kanye hung out with Dave Chappelle on the lawn. They were all laughing together and having a great time. They posed for photos and Chance came over to chat. They congratulated him and gave him hugs. Kim and Kanye were offered some champagne. Kim passed but Kanye took a glass. Then they walked inside together for the reception. It looked like they were very happy to be there and to see their friend get married. They both never stopped smiling.”
Chance and Corey share 3-year-old daughter Kensli.
Chance proposed to Corley last Fourth of July at a family picnic.
Ahead of his wedding, Chance tweeted about how he and Corley first met at his mother’s office party as kids, where Corley and two pals performed Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women, Part 1.”
“Now I’m locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen in my almost-decade of life on earth … I really shouldn’t even say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography,” he tweeted along with a sweet photo of Corley from the day they met.
Chance wrote that his parents pushed him to also start dancing, but he declined.
“This wasn’t the time or place,” he wrote. “Not just because it wasn’t my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks. It’s cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl.”
“So I shook my head with anxiety, moved to the back of the crowd and never even introduced myself. 16 years later it’s happening this
is the time, and the place is my wedding,” he concluded. “I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”
Chance the Rapper pledges $1 million to mental health services in Chicago
Chance the Rapper continues to show his support for Chicagoans in need as he pledged $1 million for mental health in the city Thursday.
He also announced plans to give $100,000 to 20 additional Chicago Public Schools.
Running in to raucous applause, Chance the Rapper took the stage in front of Chicago Public Schools educators, principals, health care experts and the world on his Twitter page with a major announcement for the city.
“I’m proud to announce I am pledging $1 million to mental health services in Chicago,” Chance said to rousing applause and screams of joy.
The new initiative by Chance called “My State of Mind” aims at creating a go-to, modern resource for Chicagoans to learn about and access mental health services.
Members of the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Chicago Department of Public Health were in attendance, among others.
Backing up Chance and his non-profit SocialWorks were big name stars like Tracee Ellis Ross, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman and even Oprah expressing the importance of mental health.
“We need a new space to get information on how they feel and where they can go,” Chance said.
On Thursday, SocialWorks pledged to give $100,000 to six different mental health providers in the city to start. But that’s not all. Chance’s partnership with Chicago Public Schools just got bigger.
“This year, 20 more schools will get $100K…” Chance said to cheers. “We will be upping the game in terms of equity, in terms of what is rightfully yours. Principals, teachers, we got your back.”
Applications for those mental health grants begin in January.

False Alarm: Chance the Rapper Says He’s Not Dropping an Album This Week
And the year of the surprise everything continues: Chance the Rapper has announced that he’s releasing an album this week. He let the news slip to the Chicago Tribune, revealing no other details about how the project will arrive other than it’ll drop “just in time” for his Special Olympics 50th anniversary concert (held on July 21). His last album, 2016’s Coloring Book, was an Apple Music exclusive that became the first streaming-only album to win a Grammy. He’s not sure now if he’ll choose to monetize his work. “I’ve never been against selling music. Music has value,” he says. “I put my music out there for free because I wanted people to see and notice it as a beacon for what I’m doing, in terms of how unorthodox I wanted my approach and my delivery of each piece of music to be.” He does, however, still sound to be anti–record labels, saying that his collaborations with bigger artists have been stifled by their labels: “It has been difficult for me to release music with artists who work with the majors. A lot of stuff I’ve worked on hasn’t come out since Coloring Book because it’s hard [when collaborating with artists limited by record deals].”
As for his upcoming separate project with Kanye West, which Chance previously teased, he says they made two songs weeks ago during the Wyoming sessions and will revisit that work shortly. “We’re up in the mountains around these wild animals — it’s very different out there — and we got some music done, and then he asked me if he could do an album with me,” Chance says. “I don’t know of a timeline on it yet, the trajectory of it, but he’s coming here to work on it some more. We’ve just started making it, but I don’t want to manipulate the situation and impose any time frame, because that can hinder you.”
Update, 11:30 a.m.: On second thought, don’t get your hopes up yet. Chance has tweeted a clarification to the Tribune story saying he’s not, in fact, putting an album out this week. But he does hint that there’s music coming … whenever that will be. The element of surprise is still alive!
