Florida teen killed mom and buried her in fire pit after arguing over bad grade, police say
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Authorities say a 15-year-old Florida boy strangled his mother after getting into an argument over a bad grade he received. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood told CBS affiliate WKMG-TV Gregory Ramos was arrested early Saturday after the body of 46-year-old Gail Cleavenger was found buried under a nearby church’s fire pit.
Investigators say Ramos killed her after they argued about his school grades. Chitwood said the boy is one of the “top three sociopaths” he has ever encountered, calling him a “soulless individual.”
Chitwood says he faces murder charges. It was unclear Saturday if he has a lawyer to represent him.
After the killing, authorities say the boy called friends to help him make it look like someone had burglarized the home. The boy initially told deputies his mother was missing.
“To watch how cold and callous and calculating he was, I think was probably the most shocking thing for all of us,” Chitwood said. “No sign of remorse whatsoever.”
The two 17-year-old friends face multiple charges.

In a first, same-sex couple carries the same baby
DALLAS — A same-sex couple in North Texas both wanted to carry their baby. They were able to through a special type of in vitro fertilization, CBS DFW reports.
Now, Ashleigh and Bliss Coulter call 5-month-old Stetson their miracle baby. “The way that Mr. Stetson came into this world was pretty special,” Ashleigh said.
Ashleigh and Bliss knew they wanted kids when they married. They both carried their son through what’s called “Effortless IVF.”
“We gave it a try and it was very, very successful,” Bliss said.
“This represents the first time that two women have both physically carried their child together,” said fertility specialist Dr. Kathy Doody of The Center for Assisted Reproduction.
Kathy and her husband, Dr. Kevin Doody, made it happen using Bliss’ eggs and sperm from a donor.
“She was so confident when she was saying that they can do it,” Ashleigh said. “I think that was surprising to us but also exciting.”
Through Effortless IVF, instead of placing the sperm and eggs into incubators, they go into an INVOcell. The device is then placed in the body for five days where the egg fertilizes and early embryo development begins.
In the Coulters’ case, after five days, Bliss had the INVOcell removed. The embryos were frozen and then one was transferred to Ashleigh. She carried their baby to term.
“This is a revolutionary type of IVF,” Kevin said. “It’s more accessible, it’s more affordable and it’s truly more natural.”
He said it’s received mixed feelings from the medical community.
“I think many have been excited about the thought, but Kevin is correct. Doctors in general, we don’t like change, so I think that their ability to share their story is phenomenal,” Kathy said.
Ashleigh and Bliss said they feel blessed to be able to share the experience together, and more children are in their future.
“You know your whole life changes obviously with anybody when they have a baby so leaning on your partner I think is really, really important and I definitely think it brought us closer together,” Ashleigh said.
Even though the Coulters were the Doodys first same-sex couple to go through Effortless IVF, they’ve performed the process for around 200 heterosexual couples.
They said the process typically costs about half as much as traditional IVF.
The Head Writer of Rick and Morty Is Creating a New Animated Star Trek Series
CBS’s all-encompassing expansion of the Star Trek universe just got a weird new addition: an adult animated comedy from one of the minds behind Rick and Morty.
Deadline reports that CBS has commissioned a two-season order for Star Trek: Lower Decks, a half-hour animated sitcom that follows the supporting crew working on “one of Starfleet’s least important ships.”
Named for the Next Generation episode that focused on the lower-ranked officers aboard the Enterprise, Lower Decks will be developed by Rick and Morty head writer/executive producer Mike McMahan and produced by Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout as part of his expansive Trek deal with CBS, the series will be the first animated show exclusive to CBS All Access (but of course, not the first Star Trek animated series!). Here’s a quote about the order from Kurtzman himself:
Mike won our hearts with his first sentence: ‘I want to do a show about the people who put the yellow cartridge in the food replicator so a banana can come out the other end.’ His cat’s name is Riker. His son’s name is Sagan. The man is committed,” Kurtzman said. “He’s brilliantly funny and knows every inch of every Trek episode, and that’s his secret sauce: he writes with the pure, joyful heart of a true fan. As we broaden the world of ‘Trek’ to fans of all ages, we’re so excited to include Mike’s extraordinary voice.
Lower Decks joins Discovery and the still-untitled Picard series as part of CBS All Access’ plans for an unprecedented amount of Trek TV. We’ll bring you more on those plans, and Lower Decks itself, as we learn it.
