“Wipeout” contestant dies after completing obstacle course
A contestant on “Wipeout” has died after completing the game show’s obstacle course, authorities and sources close to the production said Friday. The man, who was in his 30s, was declared dead at a hospital shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Los Angeles County coroner’s spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani said. The cause of death has not been released, and the man’s name is being withheld until relatives can be notified.
The reality competition show, in which contestants navigate an extreme obstacle course featuring giant balls and pitfalls that often result in spectacular crashes, ran on ABC from 2008 until 2014 and is being rebooted by TBS and production company Endemol Shine North America.
Two people close to the production said the man had completed the course on the show’s set in Santa Clarita, California, when he needed medical attention. He was helped by on-site medical staff until paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
The show stopped production Thursday and Friday and has a planned week off next week, they said. Its contestants undergo a medical exam before competing.
“We are devastated to have learned of his passing and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family.” TBS said in a statement.
Endemol Shine released a statement saying, “We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
TBS announced in April that the show would be returning, and it said in September its new hosts would be John Cena and Nicole Byer. No premiere date had been set yet.
The death was first reported by TMZ.

Tina Fey requests “30 Rock” episodes with blackface be removed from streaming platforms
Tina Fey asked streaming platforms to remove episodes of “30 Rock” that included blackface and her request is being honored, according to Vulture. Four episodes of the hit NBC show are being removed from Hulu and Amazon Prime and are no longer available for purchase on iTunes and Google Plus.
The change comes after Fey, the show’s star and executive producer, sent a note to distribution partners asking them to remove episodes that include the offensive “race-changing,” makeup, Vulture reported. The episodes will also no longer air on TV.
“As we strive to do the work and do better in regards to race in America, we believe that these episodes featuring actors in race-changing makeup are best taken out of circulation,” Fey wrote. “I understand now that ‘intent’ is not a free pass for white people to use these images. I apologize for pain they have caused. Going forward, no comedy-loving kid needs to stumble on these tropes and be stung by their ugliness. I thank NBCUniversal for honoring this request.”
“30 Rock” aired from 2006 to 2013. The historically racist blackface makeup was worn by Jane Krakowski’s character, Jenna, in two episodes, Vulture reports. Reddit users noticed that these episodes, which were part of seasons three and five, were removed at least a week ago.
Two additional episodes will also be removed, according to Vulture. The show’s live episode from season six, which features guest star Jon Hamm in blackface, will no longer be available. Another live episode from season five will also be removed. However, only the East Coast version is being pulled. The West Coast version will remain, says Vulture.
The decisions come after HBO Max temporarily removed “Gone with the Wind” amid outcries over the film’s dated depictions of slavery and racism, according to multiple reports. That decision followed the publication of an op-ed by “12 Years a Slave” screenwriter John Ridley in the Los Angeles Times. Ridley said “Gone with the Wind” not only falls short with regard to representation. “It is a film that glorifies the Antebellum South,” he said.
A spokesperson for HBO Max said the film will eventually return to their streaming catalog, along with additional content that would contextualize the controversial historical depictions and elements of the story.

Tyson recalls chicken nuggets over rubber contamination
Article via CBSNews
Tyson Foods is recalling more than 36,000 pounds of chicken nuggets because they may be contaminated with small pieces of rubber.
The U.S. Agriculture Department says there were consumer complaints about extraneous material in 5-pound packages of Tyson White Meat Panko Chicken Nuggets. There are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions.
“A small number of consumers contacted the company to say they had found small pieces of soft, blue plastic in the nuggets, prompting the company to issue the recall,” Tyson said in a statement.
It added that the pieces were found “in a very small number of packages” and that no injuries had been reported.
Tyson said the nuggets were shipped to “club store distribution centers in Arizona, California, Illinois, New Jersey and Utah.”
The packages have a best if used by date of Nov. 26, 2019 and the case code 3308SDL03. The establishment core P-13556 is inside the USDA inspection mark.
The nuggets should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase.
Employee shot dead in Pennsylvania municipal building
CRESCO, Pa. — A township employee was shot and killed inside a Pennsylvania municipal building Tuesday morning, officials said. A gunman walked inside the Paradise Township municipal building about 8:20 a.m. and opened fire, according to police and township officials.
State and local police rushed to the municipal building in the Pocono Mountains, about 100 miles north of Philadelphia, and took the suspect into custody without incident.
The victim was identified as Michael Tripus, 65, of Stroudsburg. The township’s website listed him as the sewage enforcement and building code officer. Police said David Green, 72, of Swiftwater, was taken into custody.
State police haven’t said what motivated the shooting, and it wasn’t immediately clear how or whether the Green and Tripus knew each other.
“That is something we’re still working on right now,” Trooper David Peters told reporters at the scene.
The victim was a longtime township employee, according to Gary Konrath, chairman of the township’s Board of Supervisors.
Konrath said he was not in the building at the time but spoke to the township’s executive secretary, who was.
“She’s extremely shaken up,” he said.
Konrath said she told him the gunman is “not someone they are aware of. No one appears to recognize the individual.”
“You say this a hundred times, but you wouldn’t think it would happen here,” Konrath told the Allentown Morning Call.
The township is in a rural area and has a population of about 3,200. It employs three full-time workers and one part-time worker in the office, and six on the road crew. The township building has no security camera, but there is a panic button that links to 911, according to Konrath.
Paradise Township is about 20 miles north of Ross Township, where a gunman opened fire at a Board of Supervisors’ meeting in 2013, killing three.
