Cardi B Addresses Backlash Over New Reebok Collaboration

Fans have been hype about Cardi Bâs shoe collaboration with Reebok ever since it was announced. But after she released promotional images dressed as the Hindu goddess Durga, some people were immediately disturbed and started calling Cardi B out for âmockingâ their culture. Amid mounting backlash, Cardi B took to Instagram to apologize for the blunder, saying she didnât mean any harm.
Cardi B channeled Durga in a promotional image for her Reebok collaboration
Ahead of the Nov. 13 release of her collection, Cardi B posed for the cover of Footwear News, where she dressed as Durga. The Daily Mail says Durga is âa warrior woman with eight handsâ carrying a variety of weapons. But instead of weapons, Cardi B held one of her shoes.
Footwear News explained the shoot on Instagram, writing: â[Cardi B] pays homage to Durga, the Hindu goddess, whose symbols of protection and inner strength resonate as much in modern times as they have through the centuries. The backlash to Cardi Bâs photo was intense
Taking to the comment section on Footwear Newsâs Instagram page, one person wrote, âNot Western media culturally appropriating Hindu ReligionâŠagain.â
A second social media user wrote in part, âOh wow cultural appropriation in the interest of selling footwear. Gonna go out on a limb and say you guys really missed the mark here. The caption makes it worse, if thats possible. Paying homage by depicting a religious icon holding a sneaker. yup, what a great way to honor a goddess.â
âWe as hindus donât even go inside temples with shoes on and you here have depicted a DEVI WITH SHOES IN HER HAND! Itâs so disrespectful,â read another comment. âAlso, itâs just another example of how western companies look down on asian countries and their culture just for commercialization. This is literally DISRESPECTFUL.â
âWtf are you thinking,â another comment said in part.
Other social media users agreed that it was off-putting but argued that Cardi B would never intentionally try to disrespect anyone. âYou cannot expect everyone to know everything,â one fan added.
Amid mounting criticism, Cardi B apologized for the photo
As backlash continued to roll in, Cardi B went on Instagram early on the morning of Nov. 11 to apologize.
âWhen I did the Reebok shoot, the creatives told me I was going to represent a Goddess, that she represents strength, femininity, and liberation, and thatâs something I love and Iâm all about,â she began. âAnd I thought it was dope, but if people think Iâm offending their culture or their religion I want to say Iâm sorry. That was not my intent. I do not like disrespecting nobodyâs religion; I wouldnât like it if someone offended my religion.â
âWhen people dress as Virgin Mary and Jesus, as long as they do it in a beautiful, graceful way, I wouldnât feel a type of way. But I wasnât trying to be disrespectful; maybe I should have done my research. Iâm sorry, I canât change the past but Iâm gonna do more research for the future,â she concluded.

Over a month after she filed for divorce from Offset, rapper Cardi B has filed to dismiss her divorce.
In papers obtained by âExtra,â Cardi submitted the request to dismiss her case âwithout prejudiceâ on November 1 in Atlanta.
Her request, which comes a few days before a court hearing, means that she is able to refile at a later date.
A judge has not signed off yet.
In September, Cardi filed divorce, noting that the marriage was âirretrievably brokenâ in papers obtained by âExtra.â At the time, Cardi and Offet were in a âbona fide state of separation.â
Weeks ago, Cardi explained why she reconciled with Offset, telling her Instagram followers, âI just be starting to miss [him]. Itâs hard not to talk to your best friend. And itâs really hard to have no d**k.â
Reconciliation rumors started swirling after they were spotted looking every bit the couple at her 28th birthday celebration in Las Vegas. He also gifted her with a Rolls-Royce truck and an $8,000 leather car seat for their daughter Kulture.
Two years ago, Cardi and Offset called it quits. In a now-deleted video, she said, âSo everybody been bugging me and everything and you know Iâve been trying to work things out with my baby father for a hot minute now. We are really good friends and we are really good business partners â you know heâs always somebody that I run to to talk to, and we got a lot of love for each other but things just havenât been working out between us for a long time.â
âItâs nobody fault. I guess we just grew out of love, but we are not together anymore,â Cardi continued. âI donât know, it might take time to get a divorce and Iâm going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughterâs father.â

Offset went through great measures to win Cardi back, including crashing her set at the Rolling Loud Festival at the Banc of California Stadium in L.A. In a video, Offset also apologized to Cardi, saying, âI only got one birthday wish and that’s to get my wife back Cardi. We’re going through a lot of things right now, a lot of things in the media. I want to apologize to you Cardi. I embarrassed you. I made you go crazy.”
Offset acknowledged his behavior, saying, âI was partaking in activity that I shouldn’t have been partaking in, and I apologize. You know what I’m saying? For breaking your heart, for breaking our promise, for breaking God’s promise and being a selfish, messed up husband. I’m trying to be a better person. I want to get this off my shoulders. I want to get this off my back. I apologize to you Cardi. I love you.”
The pair reconciled in early 2019. She told âExtraâ over Super Bowl weekend, âWeâre working things out⊠work in progress.â

Cardi B wants videotape and text messages with Offset sealed in $30 million court battle

Cardi B has taken a trip back to court in hopes of blocking a videotape and private text messages with Offset from being released.
According to The Blast, Cardi is worried about her videotaped deposition, which is scheduled for this month. During the deposition, Cardi will be confronted by her former manager, Klenord “Shaft” Raphael, in regards to their lawsuit. Cardi is urging the judge to seal the videotape. The Invasion of Privacy spitter fears that the video will become a social media frenzy if released.
“The public release of any video of Ms. Almanzar’s deposition, in particular, poses a significant risk of harm and misuse on social media platforms because it is highly likely that any such video will be reproduced and edited (and possibly manipulated) into out-of-context video clips and GIFs of her testimony,” the site reveals. “Any such video clips are likely to be widely posted on YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter and remain available through trial in this case. Such dissemination would be an egregious and prejudicial invasion of Ms. Almanzar’s privacy and could significantly affect the available jury pool.”
Back in April, Cardi was sued for $10 million by her former manager for a breach in contract. As a response, Cardi countersued Raphael for $15 million in damages. She also accused Raphel of screwing her over in multiple business affairs.
The Bronx spitter stated that Raphael took advantage of her “trust and naivetĂ© and persuaded her to sign contracts and to enter into deals in which Mr. Raphael attempted to take an unreasonable and unconscionable portion of [her] earnings in the entertainment industry for himself.”
Last week, Cardi emphasized the importance of being safe and cautious. The mother-of-one was set to hit the stage at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Downtown Indianapolis. Unfortunately, one hour before the soldout show, the event was canceled due to a security threat.
“Dear Indiana I just want to let you know I was in the venue today,” Cardi wrote in an effort to sympathize with her fans. “I rehearsed and started doing glam.Due to a security threat that is under investigation the show was canceled. My safety and your safety first .I want to thank the promoters we have already rescheduled the show. Im so sorry guys I never dealt with a situation like this before and I’m not taking any chances.I love you guys.”

The rapper said she feels trapped and âsadâ about the position sheâs in.
Donât tell Cardi B that she canât speak her mind.
The rapper had words for a fan on Twitter Saturday after the follower said that Cardi B wasnât a good role model. The comments were in response to Cardi tweeting âIâm just nasty like that.â
âI love you ALOT but I donât agree with the messages youâve been sending us young girls,â the fan tweeted at the rapper. âSo many of us look at you as a role model and that should send a very loud message.â
Cardi B thoughtfully responded to the criticism in a tweet.
âFor these past two years I been watching what I say and I havenât been myself. I been feeling [trapped] and sad cause itâs not ME but everybody tell me to be it for me to be this ârole modelâ and guess what? People still spit my past right in my face so for now imma be my old self again,â she said.
The rapperâs honest tweet earned praise from many of her followers.
Recently, the rapper apologized for past comments on a recently resurfaced, years-old Instagram Live clip in which she admitted to drugging and robbing men when she worked as a stripper.
The comments immediately caused an intense backlash against the 26-year-old entertainer.
Cardi B said it was something she âneeded to do to make a livingâ at the time and said that she had âa past that I canât change we all do.â
âI never claim to be perfect or come from a perfect world [with] a perfect past,â she wrote. âI always speak my truth I always own my shit.âÂ
