Boy, 13, found naked, chained to door was forced to sleep in dog crate
PRATTVILLE, Ala. – An anonymous 911 call led Alabama investigators to a disturbing case of child abuse Thursday, according to the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a Prattville home to investigate the caller’s claim that a child was being abused, and found a 13-year-old boy naked with chains “padlocked” to his ankles.
“The chains were attached to a door preventing the juvenile from normal movement,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Subsequent investigation revealed that the juvenile had been restrained by this method over a long period of time.”
The boy’s mother, 32-year-old Danielle Nicole Martin; stepfather, 26-year-old Joshua Daniel Martin; and grandmother, 58-year-old Vickie Seale Higginbotham; allegedly forced the child to sleep in a dog crate at night, according to the Montgomery Advertiser. All three were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse.
During a hearing Monday, Autauga County District Judge Joy Booth asked the boy’s mother if she was on drugs, and Danielle Martin said she was not.
“That fact that you’re not on drugs makes it worse…,” Booth said, according to the paper. “How can you do these things, allow these things to take place, when you are in a lucid, conscious state?”
Danielle Martin replied that she didn’t know what the boy’s grandmother had been doing and claimed she “tried to stop her when she put him in the dog crate.” Joshua Martin also blamed Higginbotham, telling the judge that he wasn’t aware of what was happening because of his long hours.
Higginbotham tried to take the blame, according to the Advertiser, telling the judge that she “didn’t know what to do with the child” and did what was done to her as a girl.
The 13-year-old and two other children found in the home, a 12-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, are now in the custody of the Department of Human Resources.
The three suspects are being held at the Autauga Metro Jail on $30,000 cash bond each.
Stadium worker seen spitting on pizza in viral video may face charges
DETROIT – A video that shows a former Comerica Park food services employee spitting on pizza intended for customers has gone viral – now officials say the employee is in police custody and could face charges, according to WXYZ.
The video was posted to Instagram on Saturday and shows an employee spitting on the pizza, then rubbing the sauce in it.
The incident happened on Friday, according to park representatives.
“As soon as we became aware through social media of potential food tampering Friday night, we immediately closed that food stand and disposed of all the product. Food safety is our top priority and we will take any appropriate action necessary to protect our guests,” Detroit Sportservice said.
Quinelle May, the person that posted the video, said the worker was “mad and having a bad day” and also claimed to have done it in the past.
May said after he recorded the video, he went to the bathroom looking around to tell people about the video, but couldn’t find anybody. He said his managers got mad at him and shut him down when they tried to tell them.
“Every time I tried to talk, they told me to shut up,” May said.
He said he was told to leave and threatened with prosecution if he didn’t take the post down.
WXYZ has reached out to a spokesperson regarding May’s termination and has not yet received a response.
Dad charged in death of infant son allegedly left boy in bath to play video games
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An Alabama father has been charged in the death of his infant son after he allegedly left the boy in a bathtub while playing video games Sunday night.
Cordarius Cotton, 23, has been charged with reckless manslaughter after Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office officials say he left 5-month-old Dezmend Cotton alone for more than an hour, according to The Birmingham News.
A 911 dispatcher gave CPR instructions over the phone to someone at the home, according to the paper. Paramedics took over upon arriving at the scene, but they weren’t able to resuscitate Dezmend. The boy was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Children’s of Alabama.
“I can’t imagine how hard this is going to be on that child’s family,” Jefferson County Chief Deputy Randy Christian said in a press release, according to WIAT. “This will be heart wrenching for all involved. God be with them.”
Two other children who live at the home are now reportedly in the care of a grandmother.
Cotton is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A former CNBC television director has been sentenced to five years’ probation for spying on his family’s nanny with a hidden camera in his suburban New York home.
Daniel Switzen of Pleasantville pleaded guilty in May to unlawful surveillance.
He was sentenced on Tuesday.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said that Switzen will have to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors say Switzen placed a secret camera inside a tissue box in a bathroom to record the teenage nanny and her friends on video.

Bill Cosby’s Star Won’t Be Removed From Hollywood Walk Of Fame
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA/AP) – Despite being sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman, Bill Cosby’s star will not be removed from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In a statement Tuesday to CBS2, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said it “does not remove stars from the Walk of Fame” because they “are intended to be permanent.”
“The stars only commemorate the recipient’s professional accomplishments,” the chamber wrote. “It is regrettable when the personal lives of inductees do not measure up to public standards and expectations.”
This comes after a petition was submitted Monday demanding that Cosby’s star be pulled. The chamber has never removed a star from the Walk of Fame and turned down a 2015 request to remove Cosby’s star when the sexual assault allegations against him first began to surface.
Not everyone shared the Chamber of Commerce’s view after Cosby’s sentencing Tuesday.
A Pennsylvania judge Tuesday sentenced Bill Cosby to 3 to 10 years in prison for three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault. The judge also declared him a sexually violent predator.
In April, Cosby was found guilty of sexually assaulting Temple University women’s basketball administrator Andrea Constand at his estate near Philadelphia in 2004.
“It is time for justice. Mr. Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The time has come,” Montgomery County Judge Steven O’Neill said. He quoted from Constand’s own statement to the court, in which she said Cosby took her “beautiful, young spirit and crushed it.”
O’Neill also denied Bill Cosby bail, ordering him to be locked up immediately.
