Police in Ohio shoot and kill person shortly before Derek Chauvin verdict
Police in Ohio shot and killed a person Tuesday – less than an hour before fired Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd, reports said.
The fatal shooting happened on Legion Lane in Columbus after officers were called there for a disturbance just after 4:30 p.m., WBNS-TV reported.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, taken to Mount Carmel East in critical condition, but later died at the hospital, according to the news outlet.
A video circulated on social media Tuesday night and appeared to show the victim – who was wearing bright-colored sneakers and ripped jeans — lying motionless on the ground as a white police officer stood nearby.
“This is the racist ass b—h that shot this poor f–king girl,” a bystander is heard shouting, according to the 13-second clip.
“He f–king shot this girl, talking about how she tried to stab him, the f–k. That’s somebody’s f–king daughter b—h.”
Bystanders in another apparent video from the scene identified the victim as a 15-year-old girl.
Police said no officers were hurt during the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was responding to the shooting, the news outlet reported.
The shooting unfolded shortly before a jury found Chauvin, who is white, guilty of second and third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the May 25, 2020 killing of Floyd, who was black.

Monk chops off his own head for good luck in the afterlife
A Buddhist monk in Thailand chopped off his own head — on his birthday — in hopes the gruesome sacrifice would bring him luck in the afterlife, according to reports.
Thammakorn Wangpreecha, 68, a monk for 11 years, built a guillotine near a religious statue portraying the god Indra doing the same thing, the UK’s Metro reported.
The monk’s nephew, who found the decapitated body, said he had left behind a note.
“It stated that chopping his head off was his way of praising Buddha, and he had been planning this for five years now,” Booncherd Boonrod said.
“His wish was to offer his head and soul so the Lord could reincarnate him as a higher spiritual being in the next life,” the nephew added.
Hundreds of the dead monk’s devotees later descended on the Wat Phu Hin temple in Nong Bua Lamphu to prepare his body for the funeral — placing him in a coffin, with his head in a separate casket, to be burned in a forest.
“He fulfilled his goal and met enlightenment,” said one of his followers, Yu, accord to the news outlet.
The National Office of Buddhism has asked the local government to help spread the message that people can give money or free captive birds as a sacrifice, rather than lopping off their heads.
“Temple executives and abbots should review their practices and look after other monks in their temples. This incident is possible evidence of neglecting to do so,” office spokesman Sipbowon Kaeo-ngam said, the International Business Times reported.
“We have to prevent such unpleasant situations from happening again,” he added.

Ohio waitress killed in front of co-workers during shift
An Ohio waitress was allegedly shot dead while at work by her ex-boyfriend — who pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the grisly slaying in front of her co-workers, according to reports.
Rebecca Jean Rogers, 38, was reportedly gunned down by her ex, Richard Nelson, 54, while she was waitressing Friday morning at Bob Evans restaurant in Canton, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.
“Customers took cover under tables,” Canton Police Chief Jack Angelo told news station WKYC.
By the time officers arrived, Nelson had already fled through the back of the restaurant, Angelo said.
“When we got there, we did only locate one victim,” Angelo said of Rogers, who had suffered two gunshot wounds.
She was brought to the hospital, where she later died of her injuries, the outlets reported.
Officers searched for hours for Nelson and tracked him down Friday night in East Canton, police said.
He was taken into custody and charged with aggravated murder in Rogers’ death, the outlets reported.
Nelson — who has a rap sheet that includes assault and failure to comply with a police officer’s orders — pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to the charge, the outlets reported.
He was ordered held on $2 million and is expected to appear in court again Thursday.

Ohio school district employee who thought he was arranging sex with an 8-year-old girl showed up at a hotel with candy, condoms and a bottle of NyQuil
Bradley Willem Beun, 41, of Uniontown, was busted Friday at a hotel in Akron, where the stomach-churning items he agreed to bring in an earlier online chat with an FBI undercover investigator were found inside his car, FBI officials in Cleveland said Monday.
Beun, who worked as director of special services for Springfield Local School District, allegedly had an online chat with the undercover FBI employee on Thursday and Friday.
“It is alleged that Mr. Beun and the undercover employee discussed Mr. Beun meeting the undercover employee and the employee’s purported eight-year-old daughter at a hotel for sex,” the agency’s Cleveland division said in a statement.
Beun then showed up at the prearranged location, a Fairfield Inn and Suites, just before 11 a.m. Friday with items that had been requested during the earlier chat – including Skittles, condoms and a bottle of NyQuil, the FBI said.
The items were “consistent” with what Beun agreed to bring to the hotel, according to an affidavit cited by the Akron Beacon Journal.
Beun also appeared to be wearing the same clothes he had on a day earlier. The photo he messaged to the undercover officer Thursday was apparently taken at an employee’s bathroom in the school district, the newspaper reported.
Beun allegedly arrived at the hotel and parked before messaging the undercover cop to come outside with the girl. The FBI investigator balked at that request and Beun left, according to the affidavit.
He later returned when the undercover investigator said he would come out with the girl and was arrested.
Beun had earlier asked about the 8-year-old’s appearance and told the FBI employee that he had “never done this before,” the affidavit states.
“Sounds cute,” Beun allegedly replied of her purported appearance, before going on to describe what sex acts he wanted to perform on the girl. He also asked if the girl was into “anything rough,” the affidavit shows.
Beun, who was charged federally with coercion or enticement, has been put on paid administrative leave following his arrest, Springfield Local School District Superintendent Chuck Sincere said in a statement to The Post. He was hired in July 2013.
“I want to stress that the FBI informed us that he was not arrested on school grounds and the incident does not involve any student from the Springfield School District,” Sincere said.
Beun is also barred from school grounds and functions, as well as being prohibited from doing any business on behalf of the district, Sincere said.
Investigators searched Beun’s district office on Friday, leaving staffers stunned, Sincere told the Beacon Journal.
“We were blown away – we were just knocked out, because we worked every day with him,” Sincere said.
Beun, whose initial court appearance was set for Monday, remained in custody Tuesday, an FBI spokeswoman told The Post. He’s due back in court on April 22.
Attorneys for Beun could not be reached for comment Monday, the Beacon Journal reported.

Suspected poacher trampled to death by elephants in South Africa
(CNN) — A suspected poacher was trampled to death by a herd of elephants in South Africa’s Kruger National Park on Saturday, according to a statement by South African National Parks published Sunday.
Three suspected poachers were attempting to flee Kruger National Park rangers when they ran into a breeding herd of elephants, the statement said.
Once the suspects realized they were being pursued, they “dropped an axe and a bag with their provisions” and ran away from the rangers, the statement explained.
The rangers called for backup from the South African Police Service Air Wing and K9 unit. One suspect was subsequently arrested and “informed the rangers that the group had run into a herd of elephants and was not sure if his accomplice had managed to escape,” the statement added.
“The Rangers discovered his accomplice badly trampled and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The third suspect is said to have been injured in the eye but continued to flee. A rifle was recovered and the case was referred to police, who together with the pathology team attended to the scene,” the statement continued. A search for the third suspect is underway.
Gareth Coleman, managing executive of the Kruger National Park, urged those who live nearby to assist with any information and said: “We are proud of the teamwork and dedication of our Rangers Corp, our aviators and the K9 unit. It is unfortunate that a life was unnecessarily lost. Only through discipline, teamwork and tenacity will we be able to help stem the tide of rhino poaching in KNP.”
“The campaign against poaching is the responsibility of all us; it threatens many livelihoods, destroys families and takes much-needed resources to fight crime which could be used for creating jobs and development,” he said.
In a separate incident the next day (Sunday), three more suspected poachers in possession of a high caliber hunting rifle, poaching equipment and ammunition were arrested at the Kruger National Park.
Coleman, in a statement issued by the park and emailed to CNN on Monday, said: “We hope these arrests sends a strong message to would be poachers that we are more than determined to stop them in their tracks to ensure the survival of our rhino species.
“We have strategies in place to ensure that we win this campaign. The arrests are a good morale booster for our men and women at the forefront of the anti-poaching campaign.”

Family alleges mother was punched in MO nursing home
OVERLAND, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Brittany Gordon says images showing her mother bruised are difficult to look at.
“I don’t even know if upset is the word,” said Gordon.
Gordon says scars were imprinted on her mother after an incident at St. Johns Place nursing home in Overland, Mo. Gordon says staff at the facility told her family the injuries occurred when the 60-year-old slipped and fell.
”It looked like something that shouldn’t have happened from a fall,” she said.
Not trusting the facility’s story, the Gordons say they immediately took her to the emergency room. Gordon says her mother is unable to talk, while also battling Lupus, cancer, and Alzheimer’s.
“When you see someone that you truly care for get injured, and they can’t speak for themselves, they can’t tell you what happened, they can’t really show emotion, but you know that they’re in pain,” Gordon said.
Hospital records shared with News 4 reveal Gordon suffered from several abrasions and a traumatic brain injury. Her daughter says her mother had to be hospitalized for days, and doctors said those injuries were possibly not related to a bad fall.
“It was an anonymous phone call from someone who worked at that facility, and they let us know that she had been punched,” said Gordon.
After that phone call, Gordon says she received messages from employees at the facility stating they heard screaming coming from her mother’s room before an employee walked out of it.
“I want the state to investigate,” Gordon said.
A spokesperson with St. Johns sent the following statement:
“St. Johns Place does not tolerate any forms of abuse. There has been an allegation of abuse made, the allegation was investigated by our facility, and was unable to be substantiated. It was additionally reported to local and state authorities, who are conducting their own investigation, we will continue to support the family and work with the authorities for the continued protection of our residents.”
The State of Missouri says it is also investigating.

Nine teens shot at 12-year-old’s birthday party in Louisiana
Nine juveniles were shot after a feud broke out at a 12-year-old child’s birthday party in Louisiana on Saturday night, authorities said.
About 60 young people were attending the gathering at a home in LaPlace when gunfire rang out at about 8:40 p.m., according to a press release from St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators believe an argument between two groups of young males sparked the shooting.
The gunshot victims were aged 17 and younger. Two of them remained hospitalized as of Monday, police said, while the other seven were treated and released.
No arrests have been made and police said witnesses to the mayhem have remained mum.
“Not one person has given a formal statement,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said in a statement.
“I am asking witnesses to come forward with information to help us learn more about what happened,” he said.

Sherri Shepherd reveals 20-pound weight loss in sexy dress
She’s no longer on the daytime show, but Sherri Shepherd is still enhancing “The View” — aesthetically speaking.
This week, Shepherd, 53, showed off her jaw-dropping 20-pound weight loss on Instagram, posing in a slinky black form-fitting dress.
The 5-foot-1 “Call Your Mother” actress credited a strict high-fat, low-carb diet and intermittent fasting for her newly slimmed-down figure.
“I am doing keto,” she wrote to a follower, adding that she’s also skipping sugar, dairy, beef, pork, booze (drinking water and tea only), and not eating after 7 or 8 p.m. at the latest. Whew!
Back in 2012, Shepherd tipped the scales at 197 pounds — and she’s been up and down ever since.
She shed 30 pounds in 2018 after quitting sugar, but more recently complained about putting on “COVID pounds.”
For her most recent slim down, Shepherd shared videos of herself preparing healthy grub like sauteed kale with shrimp and scallops and sugar-free oatmeal muffins.
Shepherd, who is now a co-host of Fox’s “Dish Nation,” also said she mixes up her fitness routine to get results. The Zumba devotee recently started roller-skating and pole dancing, with lessons from Los Angeles dancer Danielle Hawkins.
“Life is too short to sit still! I decided to take pole fitness classes,” Shepherd wrote on Instagram. “My stomach & thighs were burning when I was done. But those body rolls almost took me out. Take a risk and try something that scares you… and see the blessings that follow!”
The petite comedian laces up her skates three times a week for hourly sessions to learn the fundamentals of the rhythmic sport. Hawkins, who calls her client “hardcore,” also teaches Shepherd pole dancing once a week.
“She has the energy of someone who is 25,” Hawkins told The Post. “She looks amazing and is kicking butt. Both of those disciplines end up making you aware of muscle groups you hadn’t been using. They are full body workouts. It’s very physical.”
Shepherd has long been candid about her battle with the bulge.
In 2007, she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and went on to drop almost 50 pounds. She co-authored “Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes” and during a 2014 appearance on “Good Morning America” to promote the book, Shepherd credited the disease for saving her life.
“It helps me look at food in a different way,” she told Robin Roberts. “It gets me out there exercising. It makes me want to be around for my son.”
Her son Jeffrey, now 15, also inspired her to ditch sugar in 2018.
At the time, she told Wendy Williams that sweets had helped her cope with personal issues.
“Ex-husbands, things like that. And I was doing that and Jeffrey was in the backseat, Wendy, and I was eating something I wasn’t supposed to. He said, ‘Mommy, if you die, who’s going to be my bodyguard?’ I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ ‘Who’s going to watch me?’ And literally I said, ‘Sherri, you’ve got to do something different.’ ”
It led to her shrinking her waistline from 47 to 35 inches.
She’s also been honest about how hard it is to keep weight off. In July 2019, she said she fell off the wagon and gained weight because of her hectic schedule.
Then in December 2020, Shepherd said she had put on weight during the pandemic and committed to slimming down. She’s also a paid spokesperson for Healthy Wage, a site that offers cash incentives to meet weight-loss goals, which is fitting because Shepherd looks like a million bucks.
“I’ve shed tears because I relied on sugar and carbs (the bad ones), cookies & candy to get me through,” she captioned an Instagram video of her slimmed-down self dancing in her backyard. “But in changing my lifestyle and my relationship to food, I love the way I feel: clear headed… focused & walking in my purpose!”

Super realistic muscle suit makes wearer look super swoll
Here’s a foolproof way to get the perfect beach body: Just buy it online.
Did your fitness standards slip during coronavirus gym closures? Not to worry.
Chinese e-bazaars are now selling hyperrealistic muscle suits that make people look ripped without leaving the sofa.
For upward of $100, COVID couch potatoes can head to the site Taobao and purchase a Smitizen brand silicone bodysuit so realistic-looking, it evokes a “Terminator” human-skin suit, the Daily Mail reported.
That’s because, unlike the polyester muscle suits worn for Halloween, these wearable beach bodies are made from 100% medical-grade silicone.
The swoll-inducing body skins come as either upper-, lower- or full-body casts, depending on which body parts need embellishment.
Other vendors also are selling an upper-torso version of a bodybuilder suit for just under $200 on sites including Aliexpress and eBay. Dubbed the “Chest Vest Enhancement Cosplay Suit,” the costume doesn’t cover the arms, so customers might want to do some bicep curls before purchasing.
Masquerading as musclebound might be aesthetically pleasing, but it, unfortunately, won’t combat obesity — which saw a major spike due to people’s increasingly sedentary lives during the lockdown.

Scottie Pippen’s oldest son, Antron, dead at 33
Scottie Pippen’s oldest son, 33-year-old Antron, died on Sunday.
The NBA Hall of Famer, 55, confirmed the news in matching posts on both Instagram and Twitter, explaining the special bond they shared, and his son’s battle with chronic asthma. Pippen did not list a cause of death.
“I’m heartbroken to share that yesterday, I said goodbye to my firstborn son Antron. The two of us shared a love for basketball and we had countless conversations about the game,” Pippen wrote alongside photos with Antron, who he said would’ve had a successful NBA career if it weren’t for issues with his health.
“Antron suffered from chronic asthma and if he hadn’t had it, I truly believe he would’ve made it to the NBA. He never let that get him down, though — Antron stayed positive and worked hard, and I am so proud of the man that he became.”
Pippen went on to request that fans keep Antron’s mother, Karen McCollum, his family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
“A kind heart and beautiful soul gone way too soon. I love you, son, rest easy until we meet again,” Pippen concluded.
Antron was the eldest of Pippen’s eight children and the only child Pippen had with McCollum.
Antron, born on Dec. 29, 1987, played basketball for Texas A&M International University before he signed with the Upstate Heat of the World Basketball Association, according to Marie Claire, which profiled Pippen’s family in January 2021.
At the time, the outlet stated that Antron was playing basketball for a local team in Atlanta, the city where he worked as a machine technician at a laboratory. Additionally, Antron maintained a low profile and limited social media presence.
Pippen was married to Antron’s mom, McCollum from 1988-1990.
He’s also dad to daughters Taylor and Sierra, both 26, who he shares with exes Sonya Roby and Yvette Deleone, respectively. Taylor had a twin named Tyler, who died in the hospital shortly after birth.
Pippen’s sons Scotty Jr., 20, Preston, 18, Justin, 15, and daughter Sophia, 12, are from his most recent marriage to estranged wife Larsa Pippen.
The pair separated in 2015, and Pippen filed for divorce after accusing Larsa of having an affair. They later reconciled, but Larsa ultimately filed for divorce in 2018. The divorce has yet to be finalized.
Scotty Jr., who played two seasons at Vanderbilt before he declared for the 2021 NBA draft in April — where he will enter draft without signing with an agent in order to retain his college eligibility.
