Man tries to trade cannabis for a car, ends up in jail
ALBANY, Ore. — Marijuana is legal in Oregon, but you can’t barter it for a car.
Police in Albany, Oregon, said Tuesday a car dealer posted a Mazda SUV for sale on an online marketplace on Friday. A man contacted the dealer and offered to trade cannabis for the car.
Matthew Franks, 38, of Independence, Oregon, showed up at a parking-lot rendezvous site that evening, expecting to meet the car seller.
Instead, police were waiting for him.
Police spokesman Brad Liles says Franks was arrested and put into the Linn County Jail. Liles says police seized 5.4 pounds of marijuana, less than the agreed-upon amount.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Franks had an attorney.
Though marijuana is legal in Oregon, sales are regulated and those in the business must be licensed.

Hotel owner with sex dungeon tried to buy girl for ‘slave training’
A Connecticut hotel owner who had a “sex dungeon” hidden at his business was arrested after he attempted to buy a preteen girl for “slave training” and “limitless sex” for two days, police said.
Simon Hessler was arrested Tuesday after investigators set up a sting to nab the 46-year-old man during a child prostitution and human trafficking investigation. Hessler was caught attempting to purchase a 12-year-old girl for two days in exchange for $500, the Hartford Courant reported.
The preteen girl, however, was a “very petite narcotics officer from East Hartford.”
Police began investigating Hessler in October after they discovered he sought photos of young Mexican girls for a “casting couch interview,” the newspaper reported, citing the arrest warrant. In conversations with Connecticut State Police Det. Samantha McCord, Hessler revealed he had a dungeon he used to train slaves. The alleged sex dungeon was “an elaborate sado-masochism room with multiple beds with whips and chains and handcuffs on the wall.” It also included a metal cage with a padlock.
Hessler shared with the detective several photos of the dungeon, which was located in Hessler’s business, New England Hospitality Management.
The hotel owner eventually asked McCord to bring him a “DCF/foster kid” so he could train her in his “slave quarters” and have sex with her, the police report stated. He allegedly asked for the girl to be dropped off at a trailer parked in the Manchester hotel parking lot where she would be left handcuffed with a black hood and on the floor.
Hessler was arrested once he pulled up to the trailer. Police also recovered 11 flash drives from Hessler’s house after they contacted his wife, who asked if her husband had “done something with underage girls.”
Hessler was arrested and faces several charges, including attempted felony to patronize a prostitute and second-degree attempted sex assault.
He is being held on $1 million bail and expected back in court on Dec. 12.
73-year-old FL woman was worried about the meth she was smoking, so she took it to her doctor
POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An elderly woman is accused of taking her methamphetamine to the doctor for testing after she became concerned about the drug’s effect on her.
Barbara Lee Ray, 73, of Polk County, Fla., asked her doctor to test the meth because she was worried it was doing harm, the Miami Herald reported.
Ray had been using the drug for about a month, but it remains uncertain where she got it or why she was smoking it, according to the paper.
Deputies said she went to Complete Care Family Medicine Associates on Nov. 5 to test the product, which came back positive for meth.
Ray was booked into the Polk County jail on two counts of possession of methamphetamine and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was released two days after visiting the doctor.
Woman had 44 frozen dogs, 130 live dogs in home
SHAMONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say 44 frozen dogs and 130 live dogs were found at a New Jersey home that reeked of animal feces and urine.
State police say 65-year-old Donna Roberts was charged with animal cruelty following an inspection Tuesday at her Shamong Township residence in the Philadelphia suburbs. Officials allege living dogs were found in “deplorable and inhumane conditions.”
Roberts told the New York Post that the dogs were stillborn and she forgot about them after putting them in baggies and storing them in a freezer seven years ago. She said she wanted a veterinarian to perform autopsies.
Roberts said she did nothing wrong and “most certainly” will fight the charges.
The American Kennel Club fined Roberts $500 in 2015 and gave her a six-month suspension for refusal to share inspection records.

Kim Kardashian Says Kanye West Liked Trump’s ‘Personality,’ but Didn’t Know His Policies
Kim Kardashian West is perfectly fine disagreeing politically with her husband, Kanye West. That being said, she doesn’t think his recent visit to the White House to converse with President Donald Trump was particularly political, at least for West. Rather, it was something that came from his heart.
At Variety and Rolling Stone’s Criminal Justice Reform Summit, when CNN commentator Van Jones implied that Kardashian West and her husband have different politics, the reality TV star objected.
“I feel like he’s very misunderstood and the worst communicator,” Kardashian West said. “But, when we talk about it, we have very similar politics. He’s very not political, actually, he just happens to like Donald Trump’s personality, but doesn’t know about the politics. So, I’ve educated him recently. I think it gets really misconstrued. He will always say he was friendly with him before, and he’s the same person and friendly with him now. I could also co-exist with someone and still have different political views. My mom and my step-dad did that. It’s fine to be different and have your own view.”
Kardashian West continued explaining the intent behind her husband’s recent White House appearance: “What he fights for is the right to like what he wants to like. Even if it’s different from what you like. He never said, ‘Okay, I know what’s going on with immigration, and I know this and I know that.’ If he really knew, he would feel very compassionate about it. He never said that he supports that. I know it’s very confusing because when you see someone wearing a red hat you would think that they are supporting that. But he’s just fighting for free thought and freedom to like a person even if it’s not the popular decision.”
Jones responded, “I’ve said this to you before, and I’ll say it to you again, I love the way you love your husband.” After dubbing Kardashian West the Kanye translator, she insisted that she knows his heart but still wants him to have his own path.
“After he went to the White House or has been outspoken, I could have easily been on social media and corrected him,” Kardashian West revealed. “But I believe people have their own journeys. I know his heart, so I know that one day what he’s been trying to say will come out. It’s taken a little long so I’m jumping in and helping out, but I know his heart so I never really stress too much.”

Mo’Nique Remains Firm In Defense of Roseanne Barr After Tweet Comparing Obama Aide to Apes

Mo’Nique is not letting up on defending her “sister in comedy” Roseanne Barr.
Months after Barr lost her revived ABC sitcom “Roseanne” when she tweeted a racist joke about former Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, Mo’Nique is addressing why she continues to stand by the disgraced star.
Barr’s sitcom was promptly canceled and she was killed off the spinoff show after stirring controversy for tweeting, “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
While remarking on her 2009-2015 talk show, “The Mo’Nique Show,” giving a shot to any level of celebrity, Mo’Nique explained being open to everyone meant she couldn’t turn her back on Barr.
“That’s why, when people turned on my sister Roseanne Barr, I couldn’t do it,” she told the Chicago Tribune in a Nov. 12 interview. “Because there were black entertainers who would not come on ‘The Mo’Nique Show’ because it was quote-unquote ‘too black.’ But when I called on my sista, she said (imitating Barr): ‘Where is it and what time you need me to come?’ And when she showed up, when the cameras weren’t rolling, she said to me: ‘Listen, you’re the real deal. Don’t let them use you up and take advantage of you, because they will. Don’t you let them do that to you.’ Now, a racist woman ain’t gonna say that to me.”
When the reporter pointed out how clearly racist Barr’s tweet was, Mo’Nique maintained her stance. She also explained the comedians had several private conversations and explained the meaning behind her joke.
“I’m gonna say this: We’re comedians. And I know her. And what she thought was funny, as a comedian, that’s what it was,” she said before adding, “When we talked privately — and we’ve talked privately a lot — she’ll break her jokes down and I’ll know where they’re coming from. She’s like, ‘Listen, you know how I grew up, so how could I start making fun of anybody? I’m not trying to hurt anybody.’ Has she ever said, ‘Kill black people?’”
Mo’Nique added that Barr has advocated for Black concert promoters and is pushing for a Malcolm X documentary “with a brother who’s a Muslim.”
“So when I know about this these things personally, did my sista say some things in poor taste? Some people could say yes. But what I won’t label her is a racist. When she sends me a DM that says, ‘My love, we will rise again like the Phoenix’ — a racist woman wouldn’t do that, would she?”
“There are some people who are downright racist and they say, ‘I hate everything that ain’t white.’ I get that,” Mo’Nique continued on. “Then you have those — which is a lot of white people — when you really sit down and talk to them, you see their heart is good they’ve just been conditioned to be that way. These conversations will heal us. And when people started calling me ‘sellout’ and ‘you a mammy’ — I’ll take those words, but when people sit down and talk to me about Roseanne, it gives me an opportunity to say who she is.”
Mo’Nique also maintained that her personal relationship with Barr gives her a different perspective.
“If I didn’t know her, lemme tell you something, don’t you think I’d be sitting right next to you?” she said. “If I didn’t know that woman personally, I’d be sitting right there saying, ‘That racist (jerk)!’ But I know her personally. I know her when the cameras ain’t rolling. I know her when she gains nothing from pulling me up.”
Regardless of all “The Parkers” star’s explaining, Twitter users remained unmoved.
“First she gassed up fat women then lost weight. Now Roseanne. Monique never loved y’all ??????”
“Monique need to sit down. Was Roseanne at war for her Netflix check?”
“Mo’Nique. Sit down. You’re canceled, just like Roseanne’s show and your nonexistent Netflix special.”

Homeless vet, couple allegedly made up story for GoFundMe scam
The New Jersey couple who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in a viral charity campaign for a homeless man were allegedly working with the vagrant as part of an elaborate ruse, according to a new report.
Prosecutors believe that Mark D’Amico and Kate McClure conspired with homeless man Johnny Bobbitt to create their get-rich-quick scheme in 2017, NBC’s Philadelphia affiliate reported Wednesday.
The couple turned themselves in to authorities Wednesday, but Bobbitt was still at large, the news station said.
According a source who spoke to the news outlet, which said it had a copy of a criminal complaint, all three are expected to face charges of conspiracy and theft by deception for working together to create the ruse. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to make an announcement in the case Thursday, according to multiple reports.
Prosecutors did not immediately return a call for comment, and reps for the couple and Bobbitt were not available.
McClure, 28, and D’Amico, 39, created a GoFundMe page in November 2017, claiming homeless drug addict Bobbitt spent his last $20 to fill up McClure’s empty gas tank after her car broke down on I-95 near Philadelphia.
The charity campaign exploded, raising tens of thousands of dollars from unsuspecting donors in a matter of days — and ultimately shooting up to more than $400,000.
“It has changed my entire outlook about people, my outlook about people has skyrocketed,” McClure said of the donations at the time.
Their plan began to unravel in August of this year, when Bobbitt sued the couple, claiming they were withholding funds raised on the GoFundMe from him.
McClure and D’Amico, both of Florence Township, NJ, accused Bobbitt of being on drugs and refused to pay him until he was clean.

Caregiver who left 4-year-old girl to die in hot car fined just $25
A Pennsylvania caregiver who left a 4-year-old child to die in a hot car two years ago was fined just $25.
After deliberating for three hours last Friday, jurors acquitted Brittany Borgess, 30, of Williamsport, of the most serious charges against her, the AP reported.
Borgess, who prosecutors said left family friend Samaria Motyka in an SUV with the windows closed for over six hours in July 2016, was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment and reckless endangerment.
Lycoming County Senior Judge Dudley Anderson found Borgess guilty of the summary charge of leaving a child unattended in a car. She fined her $25.
Upon hearing the verdict, several of the victim’s family and friends exploded with rage and were escorted from the courtroom for screaming profanities, Penn Live reported.
Defense attorney Peter Campana called Borgess’ actions on the day of the child’s death an “autopilot mistake.”
On the day of the tragedy, Borgess dropped her 2-year-old son, Isaac, off at his daycare. Instead of dropping family friend Samaria off at her daycare, Borgess drove straight to work, leaving the girl strapped to a booster seat in the back of the car. Williamsport temperatures hit 97 degrees that day, and Borgess parked the sweltering car in an area with no shade.
Six and a half hours later, Samaria was found unresponsive on the floor of the car with her head on the front passenger seat. She managed to get out of her booster seat, police said. Samaria’s internal temperature reached 110 degrees, according to an evaluation at Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Campana argued Borgess was sleep deprived and stressed because she was about to get married and that she “didn’t want this to happen.”
Friends of the victim’s family started a GoFundMe page after her death. It raised $820 of its $1,000 goal.

Teacher suspended after student wore KKK outfit in class for presentation
A teacher in Missouri has been suspended after a student dressed up as a member of the Ku Klux Klan as part of a history class presentation, district officials said.
A ninth-grader at Poplar Bluff High School dressed as a member of the KKK on Friday as students in an American history class made presentations pertaining to amendments to the US Constitution. The student in question, wearing a white robe and hood, was part of a group assigned to the 15th Amendment — guaranteeing voting rights regardless of race or color, KFVS reports.
District officials have since suspended the teacher as an investigation continues, but they don’t believe the student was acting with intent to offend or discriminate against other students, according to the station.
“There’s no context for this,” Poplar Bluff School District Superintendent Scott Dill told KFVS. “There’s no point at which anyone in our public school system is going to say that this is OK. It is very obvious that this can’t happen in any setting anywhere, and so we will do our best to ensure that we do what we do best, which is education.”
District officials will now take steps to ensure teachers are providing “age-appropriate historical context” on key topics in a responsible manner.
“And we will make sure that our students, our teachers and our community understand the context, understand what is acceptable and what will never be acceptable,” Dill continued.
A letter of apology was sent by the unidentified teacher and read to students early Monday, KFVS reports.
“I made a mistake on Friday during our skit assignment,” the teacher wrote. “I let a student wear an inappropriate costume that was unacceptable and hurt many people’s feelings. As the professional in the room, I should have known better. I am sorry.”
The teacher’s apology continued: “I am so sorry for making this mistake, and I hope that you can forgive me and we can work through this together. I understand that healing and forgiveness take time, and I am absolutely okay with that.”
It wasn’t long before a photograph of the teen dressed as a Klansman soon began circulating on social media Friday. A former student who graduated from the school last year shared a Facebook post depicting the student but she had not been in the classroom at the time, the Springfield News-Leader reports.
“I’ve never ever heard of a history teacher who said it was okay to use a KKK costume for a project,” graduate Brianna Anthony told the newspaper. “Because when people walk into that classroom and see that uniform, that’s automatically a red flag.”
Costumes weren’t a part of history classes during her time at Poplar Bluff, Anthony said.
“We just got in group projects and did, like, reports,” she told the newspaper. “We used costumes in English, going over stories.”
