Meek Mill Concert Shooting Victims’ Families Asking For $6 Million Settlement

News & Info

Two wrongful death lawsuits loom over Meek.

Meek Mill is trying to stay as far away from a courtroom as possible, but the law is steady on his tail. Meek has been free for a few months now, but an old lawsuit is threatening to drag the CHAMPIONSHIPS rapper into a legal battle. As reported by The Blast, the families of the two men killed during a shooting outside Meek’s concert are now demanding $6 million to settle the wrongful death lawsuits against him.

The Blast got their hands on court documents that were filed on November 21 by the estates for Jaquan Graves and Travis Ward. The families of both victims claim they are willing to settle in the case. Of course, their price isn’t cheap, as each family is asking for $3 million. Still, that may be cheaper than battling in court. Both families are suing separately over a shooting at a 2016 Meek concert in Connecticut that left two dead.

The estates of Graves and Ward are blaming Meek for the carnage, claiming that his lyrics incite violence and there have been incidents at his past shows. The Oakdale Musical Theatre Company and Live Nation are also named in both lawsuits for being negligent in attaining security at the concert. Meek has already denied all involvement and allegations, claiming the situation was out of his hands and unfathomable.

Ray J Says Kim Kardashian Is Lying About the Ecstasy Situation

News & Info

That was quick! It has taken only one day for Kim Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend, Ray J to come forth and refute her claims of being high on ecstasy during the filming of their sex tape.

Ray J, a man of impeccable moral fiber, is said to have been offended that Kimberly would allude to him filming her while she was in an altered state. According to him, she was not on ecstasy, but she was a huge stoner at the time, preferring to take her weed out of a penis shaped pipe. If you can’t trust a man who owns a company called Scoot-E-Bike, who can you trust?

Meanwhile Kimberly’s sources stand by the claim, as she would “have nothing to gain by lying.” Well, Kim also claims that the two small planets attached to her backside grew there naturally, so do with that what you will. I don’t think that Kim was high during that tape. I do think that Scoot-E-Bike is an outstanding name for a business venture, but Ray J is also prone to trolling and antagonizing Kim, so I think that he would possibly lie about the situation as well.

During the filming of her latest Facebook Series, The Red Table Talk, Jada Pinket-Smith says that divorce from Will Smith, her husband of 21 years, is not an option. Jada, who has spoken candidly about the difficulties in her marriage in the series, claims that divorce would be too hard on her family… and material assets. She says:

“One of the ideas for me is that we’ve built such a beautiful community, we’ve built such a beautiful family and our survival — we do well together…Because when you have to start going in, breaking up assets, that right there…” “Let me tell you, that’s when the red table turns upside down and it won’t be red no more!”

We stan a pragmatic queen!

Extinct ‘Siberian Unicorns’ Walked the Earth Alongside Modern Humans

News & Info

Weighing up to 7,700 pounds, Elasmotherium sibiricum—an extinct hairy rhino popularly known as the “Siberian unicorn”—was thought to have disappeared as long as 200,000 years ago. An updated fossil analysis suggests this formidable species was still around some 39,000 years ago, and that Ice Age conditions, not human hunters, contributed to its demise.

Paleontologists know of around 250 rhino species, of which only five still exist today. Among the most spectacular of these rhinos was Elasmotherium sibiricum—the Siberian unicorn. For the Neanderthals and modern humans who lived alongside and possibly hunted this massive creature in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, it must’ve been an impressive and deeply intimidating sight. Fossil evidence suggests Elasmotherium weighed over 3.5 tons, was covered in a thick coat of hair, and sported a horn of biblical portions, possibly as long as three feet (1 meter) in length.

Impressive though it may have been, the Siberian unicorns eventually died out. Previous fossil dating suggested an expiry date at some point between 200,000 and 100,000 years ago, long before the large-scale late Quaternary megafaunal extinction, which got rolling around 40,000 years ago. New research published this week in Nature Ecology & Evolution is now offering a more reliable estimate, dating the demise of Elasmotherium at some point between 39,000 and 35,000 years ago. The extinction of the Siberian unicorns, therefore, can now be connected to the late Quaternary megafaunal extinction, an event that witnessed the end of the wooly mammoth, Irish elk, and saber-toothed cat.

Writing in their new study, led by Adrian Lister from the Natural History Museum in London, the researchers said “no absolute dating, genetic analysis or quantitative ecological assessment of this species [had] been undertaken,” which explains why the prior extinction estimate was so far off. The new study overcomes these shortcomings, and includes the use of updated fossil dating techniques.

For the study, an international team of researchers from the UK, Netherlands, and Russia took a closer look at 23 Elasmotherium specimens, including a pristine skull kept at the Natural History Museum. An improved radiocarbon dating technique resulted in the revised extinction dates; many of the samples were slathered in preservation materials, requiring careful preparation for the carbon dating.

“Some of the samples we studied were very contaminated which made the radiocarbon dating very challenging,” Thibaut Devièse, a researcher at Oxford’s School of Archaeology and a co-author of the study, said in a statement. “For this reason we used a novel method of extracting a single amino acid from the bone’s collagen in order to ensure highly accurate results.”

In addition, the researchers succeeded, for the first time ever, in extracting DNA from the Elasmotherium fossils. The ensuing genetic analysis showed that Siberian unicorns split from modern rhinos around 43 million years ago, “settling a debate based on fossil evidence and confirming that the two lineages had diverged by the Eocene,” the researchers wrote in the study. These Ice Age rhinos are the last species of a “highly distinctive and ancient lineage,” according to the research.

Siberian unicorns lived alongside anatomically modern humans and Neanderthals. That ancient hominids may have preyed upon these oversized rhinos is not as outrageous a proposition as it may seem. Early humans, likely a form of Homo erectus, were hunting rhinos in the Philippines around 700,000 years ago. But while rhinos were on the hominid menu, this new research suggests climate change, and not hunters, was responsible for Elasmotherium’s demise.

These rhinos, as we now know from the new research, lived during the Ice Age just prior to the Last Glacial Maximum—the stage at which the ice sheets covered their largest area, around 26,500 years ago. Earth was prone to dramatic climate shifts during this period, producing drought, desertification, a drop in sea levels, and the steady encroachment of glaciers. These climactic disruptions proved fatal to many species, Elasmotherium among them.

For the Siberian unicorn, this meant a loss of habitat, and by consequence, the disappearance of a critical food source, as the new study hypothesizes. In experiments, Lister and his colleagues analyzed stable isotope ratios from the fossilized rhino teeth. The researchers sought to link various plants with the levels of carbon and nitrogen isotopes in their teeth. Siberian unicorns, as this analysis revealed, lived in a dry steppe environment where they chomped on tough, dry grasses. The rhinos, with their highly specialized grazing lifestyle and naturally low population numbers, could not adapt quickly enough to the rapidly changing conditions, the study suggests.

A changing climate, and not humans, were thus responsible for the demise of E. sibiricum. Interestingly, it’s a conclusion that jibes well with similar, but unrelated, research, in which scientists claim that humans weren’t responsible for many megafaunal extinctions of the Ice Age. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the ongoing sixth mass extinction, which is most certainly our fault.

South Korea described Gomi and the other dog, Songgang, as a “symbol of peace” when they arrived in September.

To get there, they had to undergo a quarantine and pass through the heavily fortified demilitarized zone and the so-called truce village of Panmunjom.

YouTube Music and Premium now offer student discounts

News & Info

Streaming starts at $5 per month.

If YouTube Music is going to compete with Spotify and Apple Music on price, it’s going to need discounts for the student set. Thankfully, they’ve just turned up — you can now subscribe to a $5 per month YouTube Music Premium plans as well as a corresponding $7 YouTube Premium plan ($6 if you sign up before January 31st). So long as you’re a full-time student at an accredited US college or university, you can listen or watch to your heart’s content without stretching your budget past the breaking point.

The pricing for Music Premium is on par with what you’d expect from competing services. Really, it’s table stakes at this point. Whether or not YouTube Premium is a deal depends on your priorities. Spotify’s student plan offers Hulu and Showtime for the same $5 per month as Music Premium, but it also doesn’t curb ads on YouTube. If you’re more interested in watching your favorite video blogger than The Handmaid’s Tale, YouTube Premium might be the better deal.

Blac chyna donates to orphanage in Nigeria

News & Info

America’s socialite and baby mama of Rob Kardashian has donated some items to an orphanage in Nigeria after the launch of her skin whitening products.

The mother of two paid a visit to the BAB-ES-SALAM orphanage in Lagos, Nigeria and donated some food items to them.

She posted a video on her Instagram page with the caption; “Visiting BAB-ES-SALAM orphanage was a fulfilling experience in Lagos, Nigeria. It was amazing to see the apparent open hearts and to hear about the children’s dreams. It left me filled with emotions, their excitement was an amazing feeling and a humbling experience. I can’t wait to visit again”.

However, some celebrities were against the launch of Blac Chyna’s skin whitening products and advised Nigerians to boycott the launch.

The celebrities included Ghanaian-British musician, Fuse ODG and Nigerian Singer Burna Boy.

They advised Africans to be proud of their dark skin and not apply any cosmetics to their body to make them lighter or bleach them with the primitive notion that it will make them more beautiful.

Well, it’s obvious this didn’t stop Blac Chyna from launching her products and also embarking on a charity project.

Julie Chen Moonves returning to CBS to host ‘Big Brother’ after husband was ousted by for sexual misconduct

News & Info

After weeks of speculation, CBS has confirmed that Julie Chen Moonves will return as host of “Big Brother” after seemingly breaking with the network over its ousting of her husband, disgraced former CEO Les Moonves.

According to a press release announcing a slew of returning midseason programming for the network, Chen Moonves was confirmed as the host of “Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” Season 2. A spinoff to the long-running reality series, which puts contestants in a house outfitted with cameras, the celebrity version will air multiple nights for three weeks until the stars whittle themselves down to one winner.

While a second season of “Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” seemed inevitable, there was a lot of confusion about longtime host Chen Moonves’ involvement. She previously left her role at “The Talk” in September after at least 12 women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Leslie. After her husband was booted from his high-powered position, Chen Moonves followed suit in what seemed to be an act of solidarity.

“I have been at ‘The Talk’ since the day it started nine years ago and the cast, crew and staff have become family to me over the years. But right now, I need to spend more time at home with my husband and our young son, so I have decided to leave ‘The Talk,’” Chen Moonves said in a pre-taped announcement at the time.

Despite taking a long break from working with the network, many were still curious as to whether or not she would remain as the host of “Big Brother.” While Season 21 of the flagship series has not yet been officially announced, Deadline reports that Chen Moonves’ contract includes “Celebrity Edition” and at least one more season of the regular version.

“Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” is set to return in January.

Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee died from heart failure and breathing issues, TMZ confirmed Monday.

According to Lee’s death certificate, the 95-year-old comic book icon’s primary causes of death was heart and respiratory failure.

He also suffered from aspiration pneumonia, a condition in which a patient inhales stomach acid, saliva or food into their lungs.

Lee passed away on Nov. 12 at 9:17 a.m. PT at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The death certificate notes that Lee’s remains were cremated and given to his daughter, J.C. Lee.

A small, private funeral was held for the Spider-Man co-creator earlier this month in accordance with his wishes.

Lee suffered from several medical issues leading up to his death, including pneumonia, an irregular heartbeat and vision issues.

His wife of nearly 70 years, Jane, passed away in 2017 at age 93.

In a video released posthumously, Lee expressed mutual admiration for his fans.

“There’s something if you think about it, that is wonderful about somebody caring about you, as I care about them, whom you’ve never met, who may live in another part of the world,” he said. “But they care, you have something in common and occasionally you contact each other. This business of fans, I think is terrific. And I love ’em all.”

Tekashi 6ix9ine limps into court to plead not guilty to racketeering

News & Info

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine limped into a Manhattan courtroom on Monday to plead not guilty to charges that he’s a violent, drug-dealing gang member — as his lawyer revealed that he was transferred to another jail because of “threats” from his co-defendants.

The rainbow-haired rapper, who sported his signature braids and navy prison scrubs, looked glum as he and three other alleged gangbangers were hauled back into Manhattan federal court a week after they were indicted on racketeering and firearms charges.

The courtroom, which was packed with relatives, erupted into laughter as Assistant US Attorney Michael Longyear laid out the litany of charges against the men.

He said there is surveillance video that links Tekashi to an April 21 shooting at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the “Gummo” rapper was set to perform an entrance song for one of the boxers on the evenings card.

“Who sang the intro song?” Judge Paul Engelmayer asked, prompting the chuckles.

“I don’t have that information,” Longyear replied.

Tekashi and his crew were at the venue for the bout between Adrien Broner and Jessie Vargas, one of three fights on the card that evening. But on their way to a VIP area, they were confronted by a rival rap crew and that’s when someone from Tekashi’s entourage squeezed off a single shot, TMZ reported at the time. No one was hit.

A .32-caliber shell was found at the scene but not processed after it was handled by arena staff. Tekashi and his pals stayed behind for police interviews — and none were found with a weapon.

Prosecutors accuse Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, and five others of terrorizing the city as members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, an offshoot of the nationwide street gang.

Also charged are his just-fired manager, Kifano Jordan aka “Shottie,” and three former associates, Faheem “Crippy” Walter, Jensel “Ish” Butler and Jamel “Mel Murda” Jones.

All but Walter, who wasn’t in the courtroom, pleaded not guilty.

Last week, The Post reported that Tekashi was transferred from a federal jail in Brooklyn to an undisclosed lockup due to threats to his life.

Outside the courtroom, his lawyer Lance Lazzaro said he’s in a “facility in Queens.”

“He was moved because of his co-defendants’ threats,” Lazzaro said. “He is pretty good but he’s not happy.”

His co-counsel, Dawn Florio, added, “He’s safe but he’s not happy to be in jail.”

Tekashi was mysteriously moved out of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn last week after also receiving threats from “other gang-affiliated inmates” while in general population, Lazzaro said.

Asked about Tekashi’s noticeable limp, the lawyer said, “he has not been attacked in jail” and blamed the impairment on the cuffs around his ankles.

Prosecutors said they’re pouring through Hernandez’s three cell phones and his social media, including Snapchat and Instagram, as well as his iCloud and email.

They alleged Tekashi filmed an April robbery in Times Square and that some of the ill-gotten gains, including jewelry, were found at his Brooklyn home in September.

Longyear said the suspected gang members were also responsible for other acts of violence.

“The purposes of the enterprise included preserving and protecting the power, territory, and profits of the enterprise through acts involving murder … and threats of violence,” he said.

Walter wasn’t in court Monday because he was taken back to the hospital related to gunshot injuries he suffered in a scuffle with restaurant security last month.

Walter faces gang assault charges in the brawl at Philippe Chow.

Tekashi, who was shackled at the hands and ankles and seated in the jury box in front of his three co-defendants, didn’t once turn around to look at them. Instead, he stared into space and looked up at the ceiling.

As the men were led out of court, Jordan shouted to the gallery, “I love all my family. We don’t fall, we don’t bend, we don’t break” and then, “Entertainment.”

‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ creator Stephen Hillenburg dies at 57

News & Info

Stephen Hillenburg, creator of the megahit Nickelodeon cartoon series “SpongeBob SquarePants,” died Monday. He was 57.

The cause of death was ALS, which Hillenburg revealed he had been diagnosed with in March of last year.

“We are incredibly saddened by the news that Steve Hillenburg has passed away following a battle with ALS,” Nickelodeon said in a statement. “He was a beloved friend and long-time creative partner to everyone at Nickelodeon, and our hearts go out to his entire family. Steve imbued ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ with a unique sense of humor and innocence that has brought joy to generations of kids and families everywhere. His utterly original characters and the world of Bikini Bottom will long stand as a reminder of the value of optimism, friendship and the limitless power of imagination.”

Hillenburg graduated from Humboldt State University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in natural resource planning and interpretation, with an emphasis on marine resources. He then became a marine biology teacher at the Orange County Marine Institute (now the Ocean Institute) in Dana Point, California. This interest, combined with his artistic talent and love of the sea and its creatures, led him to write and illustrate stories as teaching tools with characters that would later become the denizens of SpongeBob’s home, Bikini Bottom.

He began his animation career in 1987, pursuing a degree in experimental animation at the California Institute of Arts in Valencia and earning his master of fine arts in 1992.

That same year, he won an award for Best Animated Concept at the Ottawa International Animation Festival for his animated short “Wormholes,” which went on to be shown at various international animation festivals. From 1993 to 1996, he would pursue work in television as a director and writer on Nickelodeon’s series “Rocko’s Modern Life.”

From there, he began to work full-time on writing, producing and directing the animated series that would eventually become “SpongeBob SquarePants.” The first episode aired on Nickelodeon on May 1, 1999, and the series commenced its full run on July 17 of that year. The series has aired nearly 250 episodes to date. It appealed not only to children but older viewers as well, with college students even organizing viewing parties for the show.

The series has won both US and British Emmy Awards, Annie Awards and ASACP Awards and has been dubbed or subtitled in more than 60 languages, including Urdu, Azerbaijani and Maori.

Hillenburg also wrote, produced and directed “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie,” which was released in 2004 and went on to gross over $140 million worldwide. Hillenburg then wrote the story for and was the executive producer of the sequel, “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water,” in 2015.

Hillenburg — or Steve as he was known to family, friends and fans — was born Aug. 21, 1961, at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. After leaving the military, his father, Kelly N. Hillenburg Jr., became a draftsman and designer for aerospace companies. His mother, Nancy, taught visually impaired students.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Karen Hillenburg, son Clay, mother Nancy Hillenburg (nee Dufour) and brother Brian Kelly Hillenburg, his wife, Isabel, and nieces Emma and Hazel.
