The German family behind Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Panera Bread, Pret a Manger and Einstein Bros. Bagels has finally come clean about their reported connection to the Nazis.
“It is all correct,” said Reimann family spokesman Peter Harf, one of two managing partners of JAB Holdings, a private conglomerate.
“There is nothing to gloss over,” he told the German outlet Bild, according to reports.
“These crimes are disgusting.”
Bild recently reported on the Nazi connection — alleging that Albert Reimann Sr. and Albert Reimann Jr., whose family owns controlling stakes of JAB Holdings, both had links to the Third Reich.
A three-year investigation found that the pair used civilian prisoners from Russia and French prisoners of war as slaves in their factories — and were both anti-Semites who supported Adolf Hitler and donated to the paramilitary SS, even before the Nazis came into power.
“Reimann Senior and Reimann Junior were guilty,” Harf explained. “The two men have passed away, but they actually belonged in prison.”
The Reimann family plans to donate $11 million to an undisclosed charity in response to what happened, Harf said.
“The whole truth must be put on the table,” he told Bild.

CA Woman wins child support from her ex-husband for her 50-year-old daughter
Carlsbad, CA (KGTV) — A North San Diego County woman was awarded child support from her ex-husband nearly 50 years after she says he left her with a young daughter.
Toni Anderson makes no apologies for going after the man she calls her “deadbeat ex” some 50 years after he left her with their 3-year-old daughter.
Anderson says her ex-husband chose to go to Canada rather than pay court ordered child support in the early 1970s.
“I kind of put it on the back burner and just kind of forgot about it over the years,” said Anderson. She supported her daughter while working as an interior designer in Los Angeles at a firm her daughter now runs.
“I’m not negating the fact I was able to send my daughter to college, Paris. We traveled and had a good time. But the money runs out.”
Anderson admits she rents her part of the house. And now that she’s retired money is tight. Then it dawned on her.
“I realized in the middle of the night one night last year, ‘Hey, there’s no statute of limitations on child support.’”
Anderson looked up old court papers and last month notified her ex-husband, who’s now living in Oregon: she wanted him to pay up. But the amount she was seeking now was way beyond what he was asked to pay nearly a half-century ago.
“He was only supposed to give me like a 160 dollars a month. Well, that was 50 years ago. That today is a lot more money.”
With accrued interest of 10 percent a year, what would have been a total payment of some $30,000 is now more than $170,000.
“I don’t think enough women get this. And I think they’re afraid.”
Along with getting what she’s due, Anderson wants to the spread the word to other single parents in California: You can still collect. And to those who skipped out, her message is for them to watch out.
“I think he’s a little bit panicked.,” said Anderson of her husband’s reaction to her pursuit. “And I’m very happy because I was panicked all these years. Now, it’s his turn.”

Italy: Infant dies after parents circumcise him at home
ROME — An infant boy in Italy has died as the result of a circumcision performed by his parents at home, according to Italian media reports on Sunday.
The ANSA news agency reported that the 5-month-old baby was brought to a hospital in Bologna by helicopter in cardiac arrest on Friday afternoon and died that night.
The prosecutor’s office in the northern province of Reggio Emilia has opened a manslaughter investigation, and the infant will undergo an autopsy.
The tragedy follows a botched home circumcision of a 2-year-old who died of severe blood loss in December in Rome. In that case, his twin brother nearly died, too, but survived following intensive care treatment.
Circumcision is not practiced among Italy’s Roman Catholic majority. Many immigrants in Italy are Muslim and practice circumcision for cultural and religious reasons, but sometimes have trouble accessing the practice in hospitals.
For some, the hospital costs are too high. Also, in some Italian hospitals, doctors refuse to perform circumcisions until the boys have reached the age of 4 or even older.
Foad Aodi, the founder of the association of foreign doctors in Italy (AMSI), has appealed to health authorities to allow circumcisions at affordable prices and to lower the age of access to help fight clandestine attempts at circumcisions.

Lunch monitor finds gun in student’s bag at Long Island elementary school
BALDWIN, NY — A lunch monitor at Meadow Elementary School in Baldwin found a gun in a 10-year-old student’s bag on Monday, police said.
The lunch monitor took the bag to the principal, who called police, officials said. The gun was loaded.
“The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority in the Baldwin School District,” a school spokesperson said. “Our staff was made aware of the occurrence, the police were notified and the situation was rectified immediately.”
The spokesperson declined to share additional information because of confidentiality laws.
The school was not evacuated at any point.
FL 17-year-old arrested after 5-week-old baby found to have skull fracture – She admitted to throwing the baby on the floor out of frustration
PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFTS) — A 17-year-old mother is facing charges after one of her 5-week-old twin boys was admitted to the hospital with a skull fracture and a brain bleed, according to authorities.
The infant was admitted to John’s Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Wednesday evening. Deputies say the 5-week-old boy is a twin, but the other baby didn’t sustain any injuries.
Officials at the hospital told authorities the injuries could only have come from intentional abuse.
Authorities say the mother of the twins was at home alone with them while her grandmother went to work. The grandmother checked on her throughout the day and was told there were no issues, according to deputies.
When the grandmother returned home she told deputies that when attempting to feed the baby he displayed signs of discomfort and wouldn’t eat. She then noticed the baby’s head was misshapen and she took him to the hospital, deputies say.
The 17-year-old mother told deputies several versions of what happened to the baby, but deputies say none appear consistent with the injuries sustained. She later admitted to throwing the baby on the floor out of frustration, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
The injured infant remains in the hospital for treatment. His twin is also at the hospital until he is released into foster care, according to authorities.
The mother was arrested and faces one count of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm/permanent disfigurement. She was taken to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.
4th grader brings loaded gun to Georgia elementary school
NEWNAN, Georgia (Meredith) — A Georgia community is on edge after a fourth grade student brought a loaded gun to his elementary school, police said.
The incident happened at Ruth Hill Elementary School in Newnan, Georgia, about 45 minutes southeast of Atlanta.
According to police, no one knew the student had a loaded 380-caliber pistol at school all day until the child told his bus driver about the weapon on the ride home.
Parents told CBS46 they felt their children were in danger.
“Everything that’s going on, these little kids take [guns] to school with a mission to have an agenda,” parent Jessica Jackson told CBS46. “My child is not gonna be a part of that.”
The school sent a letter home to parents informing them about the situation, stating that the student with the gun did not make any threats.
Police said they do not believe the student was trying to scare other students or staff but are investigating why the child had the gun.
Police have not said if the student’s parents will face any charges. It is unclear if the school will punish the student.
FL Parents ‘didn’t realize’ they left toddler alone at park for 14 hours – told police they “forgot her”
(Meredith) – A Florida couple charged with leaving their daughter alone at a park for more than 14 hours said they forgot, according to authorities.
Jolanda Alexandre and Makenson Alexandre were arrested and charged with child neglect on Saturday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Deputies found the little girl walking alone at Haverhill Park on Friday some time after 7 p.m. She was wearing a pink T-shirt, gold and white tutu and clear plastic shoes.
In an effort to find her parents, the sheriff’s office posted a photo of the toddler to Facebook with the caption: “Does anyone know who this little beautiful baby girl belongs to?”
“Numerous deputies canvassed the area, loud announcements were made, and a reverse 911 call was initiated. All met with negative results,” the post continued.
The girl’s parents contacted authorities the next morning around 11:40 a.m. to report her missing. They told deputies they did not realize they had left their child at the park, according to the sheriff’s office.
The child, believed to be around 2 years old, is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families. Seven other children were also removed from the couple’s home.
Man arrested for beating up teen he allegedly caught raping a 5-year-old
(Meredith) – An Ohio man was arrested for attacking a teenager who he allegedly caught raping a 5-year-old boy, police said.
Richard Adams, 20, said he walked into the laundry room of his Eastlake home last Thursday and saw a 17-year-old sexually assaulting the child, WJW-TV reported.
“I kinda blacked out,” Adams told the station. “I wanted to help the young boy, and that’s all I was thinking about… getting it stopped.”
Adams said he screamed for someone to call 911 and then began fighting the teen. He then posted a video of the bloodied teen to Facebook, which he later deleted, according to WJW.
Once officers arrived to the home, they arrested the 17-year-old who was later charged with rape, the Eastlake News-Herald reported. Adams was booked on felonious assault charges.
Adams’ relationship to the teen was not immediately clear.
Following Adams’ arrest, frustrated residents bombarded the Eastlake Police Department with angry phone calls and emails demanding that the assault charge be dropped.
“We truly understand the interest, passion and concerns with this type of case. It has been processed by the court and will continue to go through the system,” the department wrote in response.
“To attack people within the system to achieve a certain outcome is not what justice is about. We appreciate the impact that this story has had on the community and beyond but we expect people to be civil in expressing their disagreement and/or support of what has and will take place.”
Adams posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 2, according to the Willoughby Municipal Court.
The 17-year-old’s identity has not been released.
Man is arrested in kicking of an elderly woman on a subway as bystanders shot video

A man who was filmed kicking a 78-year-old woman repeatedly on the subway in New York has been arrested and charged with assault, police said.
Video of the attack on a Bronx subway car has been widely shared online. It showed a tall man in glasses, a dark jacket and a knit cap forcefully kicking the woman while she was aboard a train. Bystanders recording video of the attack yelled “ooohh, ahhhh, naahh” as the man hit the woman, but they did not intervene to stop him. It’s unclear what happened before the attack or whether the two know each other. After the attack, the woman appeared to wipe away tears as she quietly sat in a corner with cell phone cameras pointed at her. As the man walked past bystanders and off the train, he shouted “WorldStar that!” a reference to a popular site that posts videos of people involved in altercations, among other things.
Police identified the suspect as Marc Gomez, 36, of Yonkers. He was arrested Saturday in Manhattan and charged with multiple counts of assault and harassment,the NYPD said in a statement.
The law firm for Steven Mechanic, the man listed as the suspect’s attorney, declined to comment when reached by CNN.
The attack happened on March 10 after 3 a.m., but the video did not surface until recently. After the incident, the woman rode the train one more northbound stop and was met by EMS when she exited the train, the NYPD said in a statement. It said she suffered from bleeding and swelling with cuts to the face. She was treated and released from the hospital and is getting the care, advocacy and support she needs, NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot F. Shea said.
Jordan Peele surprises Hollywood again: ‘Us’ brings in $70 million, well more than expected
Jordan Peele’s new horror film terrified audiences and shattered expectations at the box office this weekend.
“Us,” the director’s second film, made an estimated $70.3 million in North America — more than tripling its production budget of $20 million.
It exceeded industry expectations in a big way. The film was initially projected by industry experts to bring in closer to $45 million this weekend.
The R-rated film stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke as parents trying to fend off an attack from evil Doppelgängers. The film has made $87 million worldwide.
“There’s nothing scary about horror for Hollywood,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore.
“Us” is another hit for Peele and Universal.
Peele’s “Get Out” was a critically acclaimed blockbuster in theaters two years ago. It hauled in $255 million at the box office globally — $33 million on its opening weekend. That was 56 times its budget. “Get Out” was also nominated for four Oscars, and Peele won for Best Original Screenplay. As for Universal, the studio now has the second, third and fourth biggest openings of the year — with “Us,” “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” and “Glass.”
The No. 1 opening in 2019 was by “Captain Marvel,” from Disney and Marvel Studios.
“Us” represents another horror hit for Hollywood. Scary films such as “It,” “Halloween” and “A Quiet Place” have made big money on low budgets in recent years.
Strong reviews and word of mouth helped propel “Us.”
The film has a 94% score on review site Rotten Tomatoes and has been building buzz since its premiere at Austin’s SXSW conference earlier this month. Audiences gave it a CinemaScore of B.
