Man shoots 18-year-old taking prom photos in front of his home, police say
Detroit, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police are investigating a non-fatal shooting on Detroit’s west side that happened Friday around 7:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed the 18-year-old victim and a group of people were standing in front of a home on the 2900 block of Doris for a prom send off, when the homeowner came outside and began complaining about the crowd standing in front of his home.
The homeowner then pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the 18-year-old, police say. The suspect then got into a blue or gray Hyundai vehicle and sped off from the scene.
Police say the victim was privately rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The investigation is ongoing.

Swim instructor charged after 3-year-old boy nearly drowns during swimming lesson
(WFTV/CNN/Meredith) — A swim instructor in Florida is facing neglect charges after a three-year-old boy nearly drowned during a lesson last year.
Police said he spent almost two minutes under water, even though instructors were just feet away from him.
The incident was caught on video, where you can see the three-year-old boy in the pool at Park Maitland School lose the swim board he was holding onto and go under water.
He stays there for what feels like forever until an instructor, 34-year-old Jessica Kretz, notices him, snatches him from the water and calls 911 while another instructor begins performing CPR.
A report from Maitland police said he was under water for more than two minutes.
In the video, Kretz and at least one other instructor got within feet of him but still did not notice he was under water until minutes later.
The video shows four instructors in the pool. So far, only Kretz has been arrested and charged.
Documents we obtained from Maitland police may shed light on why — they say Kretz knew ahead of the incident that the little boy could not swim, and that he was “the responsibility of Kretz” when the accident happened.
When WFTV asked Park Maitland School for comment on Kretz’ arrest, they said in part “the instructors are no longer in our employ, and to our knowledge, the child is thankfully well.”
But attorney Larry Gonzalez, who is representing the little boy’s family in a civil suit, said the boy is not well and his family is devastated.
“He has suffered significantly and is still suffering to this day, still seeking medical treatment with doctors due to the damage that occurred. They put their trust in Park Maitland that they were going to be teaching their kid to swim,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez did not specify how the boy was still suffering.
The boy’s family said the accident should have never happened.
Maitland is about 15 minutes north of Orlando.

5-Year-Old Girl Suffers Skull Fracture When Glass Bottle Thrown From SUV in Corona
Investigators are seeking a person who threw a glass bottle from an SUV in Corona on Friday afternoon, striking a 5-year-old girl in the head and fracturing her skull and collarbone, authorities and family members said.
The seemingly random attack took place shortly before 2:40 p.m. along Lincoln Avenue, just south of Bayfield Drive, Corona Police Department officials said.
Karla Zosoyas was walking home from school with her brother and sister on a sidewalk when an SUV passed by heading south, according to police and the victim’s family. The bottle was thrown from within.
The little girl was bleeding from her head and nose, said witness Pedro Ruvalcaba, who was passing by and stopped to help.
The injured girl was being treated in an intensive care unit at a children’s hospital, family members said. Doctors were working Saturday to relieve pressure in her skull caused by a brain bleed.
“I just remember looking down and seeing my little sister on the ground,” sister Maria Zosoyas told KTLA.
“I feel really bad for her. She’s such a young age and she has to suffer through this, and she doesn’t really know what’s happening fully,” the sister said.
“For my family, everyone’s scared and angry, because whoever did this obviously was heartless. They didn’t care,” she said.
The SUV was a large, silver or gray SUV, described as possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe, police said in a written statement. It had collision damage on the front, driver-side corner and was fitted with dark six- or eight-spoke wheels.
After the attack, the SUV turned onto westbound Railroad Street, South and Smith Avenue and was last seen heading north on Sherman Avenue,
Anyone with information was urged to contact Corona police at 951-817-5837.

Texas Woman Accused of Lighting 5-Year-Old Stepdaughter’s Face on Fire as Punishment
A Texas woman is accused of pouring alcohol on her 5-year-old stepdaughter’s face then setting it on fire.
Dalia Jimenez, 20, of Grand Prairie, faces a charge of felony injury to a child.
Jimenez initially told officers responding May 13 to reports of a child with burns that the girl was hurt while trying to light a candle, according to KTVT.
After investigators questioned her about several inconsistencies, Jimenez allegedly admitted to dousing the girl in rubbing alcohol and using a lighter to set fire to her face.
Jimenez told police she did it because the 5-year-old had been “yelling previously in the home,” KTVT reports.
The girl suffered burns on her cheeks down to her jawline, with smaller burns on her shoulders.
Grand Prairie Detective Greg Parker said during a press conference that Jimenez is believed to have left the girl’s injuries untreated for two days.
Child Protective Services has removed the victim and her younger sibling from the home. KDFW reports that the father was not home when the incident happened and is not expected to be charged.

The incident happened in Valrico, which is about 30 minutes east of Tampa.
The woman, described as being in her 20s, was taken to a local hospital where she died. She has not been publicly identified.
Shinault was charged with manslaughter Friday and booked into the Orient Road Jail on a $50,000 bond, according to WFTS.

Dad busted for marrying his daughter after ‘jealous competition’ with half-sister
A depraved Nebraska man has been jailed for having sex with his biological daughter — even marrying her when cops were on the case, according to reports.
Travis Fieldgrove, 40, was tracked down by daughter Samantha Kershner, 21, after pleading with her mom to tell her who her real dad was, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
Kershner was allegedly motivated to get intimate over “a jealous competition with her half-sister regarding who could have sex with their father,” according to the paper, which cited a court affidavit.
The father-daughter relationship had turned sexual by September last year, and the pair married on Oct. 1 at the Adams County Courthouse in Hastings, according to the affidavit.
DNA results showed a 99.999% probability that Fieldgrove was her dad, the affidavit said.
“Evidence leading up to the arrest suggests that Fieldgrove and (the daughter) were aware of the biological relationship before being intimate, and further indicates that they quickly married one another after being notified of the investigation,” the Grand Island Police Department said at the time of their arrests.
Fieldgrove, of St. Paul, Nebraska, initially was charged with committing incest, a felony, but under a plea deal, pleaded no contest to an attempt charge, according to the report.
He was jailed for two years, with Hall County District Judge Mark Young giving credit for 121 days already served.
He also was ordered to serve a year’s post-release supervision with no contact with his daughter.
Defense attorney Jeff Loeffler told the World-Herald that Fieldgrove is embarrassed by the offense and claimed his client suffers from a brain injury and is not a “high-functioning” person.
