Mother slapped her daughter when girl said she had been molested

News & Info

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. – Newly published court documents reveal the heartbreaking response a mother had to her daughter’s confession she had been molested, WJLA reported.

The 13-year-old girl told social workers there were incidents of abuse dating back to 2016 reportedly involving Mahlik “Moon” Kone, a friend of the girl’s mother. According to WJLA, Kone would frequently stay in the family’s apartment where he would then sneak into the girls’ bedroom and initiate unwanted touching.

The girl reportedly told social workers Kone would threaten her with violence and was known to carry a gun.

Eventually, the girl turned to her mother for support, but she received the opposite. WJLA reported the girl’s mother slapped her and told her to “shut up.” Later, she reportedly told Kone what her daughter had said.

According to court documents, Kone then threatened violence against the girl for telling her mother and warned her not to tell anybody else.

The girl’s mother has since died, but police have not shared information regarding her death, WJLA reported.

Kone was formally taken into custody Monday, six months after an arrest warrant was issued for him. He has a hearing scheduled for July 12.

Janet Mock’s historic Netflix deal: First trans woman to establish overall deal with major studio

News & Info

Janet Mock’s latest deal is one of its kind.

Mock, the director, producer and writer for the FX series “Pose” has signed a three-year multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix, making her the first known transgender woman to make an overall deal at a major studio.

Under the agreement, Mock will produce new series exclusively for Netflix, and the streaming giant will have a first-look at her features projects.

“There’s potential to introduce hundreds of millions of viewers to trans people, and showing people who may not understand us, that we can tell our own stories,” Mock said in a video on one of Netflix’s Twitter accounts.

Mock, 36, also will serve as an executive producer and director on Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix series “Hollywood.”

Despite this new pact with Netflix, Mock will still be able to continue as a writer-director on “Pose,” an LGBTQ drama set in New York.

Mock, who worked at People magazine for years as an editor, was born in Hawaii and transitioned as a teenager. She publicly talked about her sexuality in a 2011 Marie Claire article. Her 2014 memoir is considered the first mainstream account from a young transgender person.

Man says woman broke in, pet his dogs, got a drink and made herself at home

News & Info

NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah – A Utah man came in from a long night to find an unexpected visitor had made herself at home inside of his apartment.

“I walked straight in and she was standing right here on the counter just looking at me,” Ryan Spurlock told KSTU as he re-enacted the bizarre encounter, opening his apartment door and looking to the island in the kitchen.

“I was looking right at her and a homeless girl was just looking right at me,” he continued.

That was the first thing Spurlock saw when he got back to his North Salt Lake apartment around 4 o’clock on Wednesday morning.

“It felt like a dream, honestly. Even when I laid down, it didn’t feel real,” Spurlock said.

The woman had placed her shoes neatly by the door and made herself at home.

“She went in my fridge, she opened a drink and she drank it, she sat on my couch,” said Spurlock. “She told me she lives here, I said, ‘No you don’t, this is my place.’”

Spurlock said the woman was even wearing his new clothes, “I noticed the bag was there and she was wearing them too,” he said.

Spurlock said the situation was confusing – he wasn’t sure if the woman was homeless, if she lived in the building, if she was on drugs or who she was. He didn’t know what to do, so he offered her some food as he began to question her.

“What are you doing? Where are you from? She wouldn’t tell me her name, she started laughing and I thought she was on drugs,” he said.

After his quick interrogation, Spurlock learned the intruder didn’t come for a beer or the couch … she came for his dogs.

“She came up here for one reason and it was the two dogs, she heard them, and she wanted to come up,” Spurlock said.

The woman did not harm his dogs but came up to pet them, even claiming to Spurlock she was their owner. Then his encounter with the stranger got took another turn.

“She asked if she could stay and I told her ‘No you’ve got to leave or I’m going to call the police,’” Spurlock said, mentioning he would not call the police so long as he could check her bag to ensure she did not steal anything.

In the end, the woman agreed to leave – but not through the front door, and Spurlock doesn’t live on the first floor. He said the mystery intruder jumped off his second story balcony.

“She started limping off and then she was fine and started running,” he said. “I called the cops and chased after her on the other side of the gas station.”

Police caught up with the woman at the gas station, but according to a video Spurlock recorded on his cellphone, they couldn’t get a straight answer either.

“Sit your a– down,” the officer said as the woman, who was sitting on the curb, tried to get up while he was asking her questions.

“This isn’t a joke. Are you on any drugs right now?” the officer asked. The woman shook her head, ‘no.’

“Are you sure?” he said, and the woman nodded. “What are you doing in this complex?” the officer asked just before the video ended.

Once she was in police custody, Spurlock said the officers found his clothes and another man’s wallet in her possession.

Spurlock does not know how the woman got inside his apartment but said he learned a valuable lesson about making sure the door is locked.

Tennessee driver accused of killing ‘randomly chosen’ pregnant mother, 2-year-old

News & Info

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – A Tennessee man faces murder charges after police say he deliberately mowed down a pregnant woman and her toddler son Monday, killing both, along with the woman’s unborn child.

William David Phillips, 33, of Jefferson City, has been charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, according to the Jefferson City Police Dept.

Police say Phillips chose his victims at random, first driving into a 61-year-old man named Tillman Gunter, then slamming into 30-year-old Sierra Wilson Cahoon and her son less than a mile away, according to WBIR.  Cahoon, her unborn child and her son Nolan were found dead at the scene in Jefferson City, located about 30 miles northeast of Knoxville

“I ran up here, and I just saw the guy, he was trying to get out of the car and the lady and the baby in the stroller were next to the building,” witness Bill Ray Jones told WBIR, adding that he heard Phillips yelling that the “government told him to do it.”

Jefferson City police said a preliminary investigation found that it was “an intentional act of violence toward randomly chosen pedestrians.”

According to an arrest warrant obtained by WBIR, “a voice told (Phillips) that he needed to go kill the meth addicts so he began driving very fast,” and “the voice told him that the baby stroller had meth in it so he intentionally drove into” into the mother and her child.

Police arrested Phillips after finding his vehicle lodged in an ornamental fish store.

A GoFundMe page has been created for the family of the victims.

IL man sentenced for taking nude photos of toddler

News & Info

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A 31-year-old Edwardsville man was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Wednesday on child pornography charges.

According to court documents, Tyler Seibold pleaded guilty to a two-count indictment in March 2019 for production of child pornography.

Prosecutors said a joint investigation by the FBI and Illinois State Police’s Forensic Computer Crime Unit determined a computer with an IP address assigned to Seibold had downloaded multiple images and videos of child pornography several times between November 2017 and May 2018.

In June 2018, federal agents obtained a search warrant and went to Seibold’s home. They took several cellphones, computers, and other data storage devices. Authorities discovered self-produced photos of a nude 3-year-old girl.

Investigators learned Seibold knew the child and contacted the young girl’s parents. The child told her parents that Seibold exposed himself to her as well.

Following his prison term, Seibold must serve 10 years of supervised release and undergo sex offender treatment. He won’t be allowed to own or possess any cameras or visual recording devices. Any interaction with minor females will have to be supervised.

Uber Eats driver caught masturbating just after delivery

News & Info

An Uber Eats delivery driver was allegedly caught masturbating inside his car by the New Jersey woman to whom he’d just delivered an order, authorities said Wednesday.

Vinicius Porto, 31, had just handed off a bag of grub to a 23-year-old customer around 4:45 p.m. June 13 when the hungry client noticed the bag was unstapled, according to the Hackensack Police Department.

When the woman rushed over to Porto’s Ford Explorer to question him about the opened bag, she allegedly saw him touching himself in the front seat, cops said.

The grossed-out but quick-thinking woman whipped out her cellphone and shot an incriminating video of Porto before he sped off, police said.

Cops tracked down the Newark man and slapped him with a summons for lewdness.

ESPN is done giving airtime to LaVar Ball

News & Info

It appears the LaVar Ball show is coming to an end.

At least, for ESPN, that is.

The Ball patriarch won’t receive any more air time on any ESPN platform heading forward, according to The Athletic.

When asked if Ball would be used as an on-air guest, an on-the-record source, or will have any other use, an ESPN spokesperson said, “We have no plans moving forward.”

While his sons LaMelo and LiAngelo were playing overseas, then-ESPN reporter Jeff Goodman traveled to Lithuania to cover LaVar and the family. Nevertheless, LaVar abruptly cut off Goodman after he published a story containing comments LaVar made about then-Lakers coach Luke Walton. Goodman claimed all comments were made on the record.

Recently, LaVar created an awkward moment on ESPN’s “First Take.” Co-host Molly Qerim said she was “switching gears” to shift the discussion from LaMelo to Lonzo, to which Ball responded, “You can switch gears with me any day.”

“LaVar Ball’s comment to Molly Qerim Rose was completely inappropriate and we made him aware of that,” ESPN said in a statement.

Ball’s comment followed a track record of disrespecting female hosts. In 2017, he told Kristin Leahy to “stay in your lane” during a debate on FS1.

5-year-old boy accidentally fatally shoots himself

News & Info

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (WTMJ) — Police are investigating a 5-year-old boy’s death on Milwaukee’s north side.

Just before 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to a home on 45th St. A family member who did not want to go on camera says the 5-year-old found a gun in the couch and accidentally shot himself.

He died before help could arrive.

Police Chaplain Malcolm Hunt says it was the boyfriend’s gun, and he had left it there.

“According to the mother, she was sleeping and all of a sudden she heard a pop. She called her son and he didn’t answer,” Hunt said. “So she got up and went into the living room and seen him laying on the couch. She turned him over there was blood. He shot himself in the head.”

An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday.

Mom of boy with autism angered by school’s ‘Most Likely to Get Lost in a Crowd’ award

News & Info

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – The mother of a Massachusetts middle school student with autism is speaking out after she says her son was called “Most Likely to Get Lost in a Crowd.”

Desiree Perez told WJAR the end-of-year award – a paper certificate apparently signed by several teachers, including her son Kelvin’s – felt “very wrong.”

“I found it disrespectful because she knows more than anybody that I struggle a lot with my son,” Perez said, adding that teachers shouldn’t label any child that way “because every kid struggles in school.”

Perez said she spoke with the principal and claims he asked her to “forgive this incident” since the teachers had already left for vacation and there wasn’t much he could do.

“This is a type of bullying by the teachers,” said Perez, who told WBSM Kelvin had been bullied by students on several occasions. “Now all of a sudden my son receives this award saying he’s always lost in a crowd, and that’s not right.”

New Bedford Public Schools said in a statement that an investigation is underway.

Man who admitted to sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl sentenced to probation

News & Info

GREENE COUNTY, Miss. – A Missouri man who admitted to sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl was given a sentence Friday of five years probation, according to the Springfield News-Leader.

Joseph Meili, 22, agreed to plead guilty to third-degree molestation as part of a plea deal reached in March. If he doesn’t violate the terms of the sentence, the conviction could be taken off his record, the paper reports.

Meili met the victim through the dating app MeetMe, according to court documents obtained by the Jefferson City News Tribune.

Police say the girl used her mother’s phone to give Meili her address in July of 2017, and Meili picked her up and drove her to his apartment in Springfield.

Investigators believe deputies and firefighters were searching for the girl near her home while Meili was sexually assaulting her. Meili dropped her off at her house where she was found that night, packing a bag to leave again, according to prosecutors.

The girl eventually told investigators she had fallen asleep at his apartment and, when she woke up, she thought something sexual had been done to her. The Springfield News-Leader reports that semen was found in her underwear and she later tested positive for chlamydia.

Meili’s attorney, Scott Pierson, argued in court that his client and been “essentially catfished” and felt terrible when he learned her true age.

Greene County Senior Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Elizabeth Fax told Huffpost she doesn’t believe it’s possible he actually thought the girl was 18, saying, “To actually see her in person … he knew and just decided to go along with it.”
