Kanye West Says He’s Running for President in 2024, Along With an Unlikely Competitor
Kanye West, the husband of Kim Kardashian West and a highly-successful rapper, has a knack for grabbing headlines whether that’s from his outlandish behavior or his decision to wear a MAGA hat, a nod to support for President Donald Trump. Just recently, the musical artist considered changing his name to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West, citing a religious awakening that has been reflected in the newest music he’s released, if that’s any indication of the volatility he’s capable of. So, given his seemingly impulsive behavior, many are wondering if he still plans on running for president in 2024 after be claimed he would several years ago. If so, he might have some unlikely competition.
West first announced that he would be running for president in 2024 during an interview he had with Vanity Fair. And for the rapper, he was being completely serious. “I didn’t approach that because I thought it would be fun… No, the exact opposite,” he said. “I sit in clubs and I’m like, wow, I’ve got five years before I go and run for office and I’ve got a lot of research to do, I’ve got a lot of growing up to do.”
The jury is still out on if West was able to do a ‘lot of growing up’ but the rapper did double down in an interview in November of 2019 stating, “When I run for president in 2024, we’re gonna definitely…” For West, though, no one in attendance took him seriously and laughter erupted throughout the room. He would go on to set the record straight for those who were doubting him, though.
West Double Downs on Statement to Run
After the laughter had subsided over Kanye’s comments about running for president in 2024, he became very solemn and serious, asking the crowd, “No, what y’all laughing at? Again, the audience burst out in laughter, as if West was filming a standup special and was simply going along with one of his jokes.
But remaining serious, the rapper looked the audience dead in the face and stated, “When I run for president in 2024, we would’ve created so many jobs that I’m not gonna run I’m gonna walk.” So, from the look for things, West is seriously going to run for president, come the 2024 election, at least as of now.
Akon Considering a 2024 Presidental Run Amid Philanthropy Efforts
If Kanye does, in fact, plan to run, which is very possible, he may have an unlikely competitor in fellow rapper, Akon, who has also said he is considering a run for the highest office in the country. This would likely be bad news for West as Akon has many of the experiences and qualities that seem to be absent from Kanye’s resume.
Specifically, Akon, who doesn’t do much rapping these days, has been heavily involved in multiple philanthropies over the years in Africa. He’s even developed his own cryptocurrency, called the AKoin, which can be used in various countries throughout Africa as a stable currency in the midst of the ever-changing regimes and governmental entities. Some people have stated that Akon has done more for Africa in one year’s time than charities have done in many years, altogether.
Akon’s Experience with Philanthropy and Business Development
Akon also got a chance to speak with Vanity Fair, and appropriately, was asked about running for president in 2024, given his past experiences with philanthropy, building businesses, and ultimately, living the American Dream.
The Soul Survivor artist responded in a way that is sure to attract some voters, should he pursue the presidential election in 2024. “I think if you’re going to run for office, you are serving. And I think that’s a little bit different from a job,” he said. “I’ve kind of experienced everything that a U.S citizen can experience – being an entrepreneur, understanding growth and building companies.”
“I can also say the same thing from a business level and then from a political standpoint. I’ve been, literally, advising presidents from everywhere. I mean, like over 15, you know, countries in Africa – all throughout the world.”

Hoverboarding dentist found guilty after bizarre tooth extraction caught on tape
No, it isn’t the nitrous oxide — that dentist is really riding a hoverboard.
An Alaska dentist has been found guilty on dozens of charges for pulling a patient’s tooth as he rode on the two-wheeled gadget and other unsavory acts.
Seth Lookhart, 34, was convicted Friday in Anchorage on 46 counts that included reckless endangerment, illegally practicing dentistry and medical assistance fraud.
Witnesses in the case included Veronica Wilhelm, who was sedated when the dentist pulled her tooth in July 2016 as he rode on a hoverboard, news station KTUU reported.
Lookhart allegedly texted a video of the procedure to at least eight people, joking that it was a “new standard of care,” NBC News reported.
The video shows the dentist triumphantly throwing his hands in the air while scooting off from the wheel-y stupid stunt, then spinning around to grin at the camera.
During the trial, Lookhart’s attorney apologized for his client’s “idiotic” behavior.
“I want you to know that as his lawyer, I apologize for what he did on that hoverboard,” defense attorney Paul Stockler said, according to the Anchorage Daily News.
“It’s unacceptable and you can be assured that when I agreed to represent him, I got in his face and told him what I thought about him for doing this, which I think needed to be done.”
But that was hardly the only thing he did wrong.
Prosecutors say Lookhart also defrauded the Alaska Medicaid program by offering more-costly intravenous sedation to Medicare patients instead of anesthesia.
Anchorage Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton issued the guilty verdict after a five-week trial, calling the state’s evidence “simply overwhelming.”
The judge noted that Lookhart’s own text conversations were incriminating. One message included the dentist explaining to a pal how he pulled off some of his crimes.
“Dr. Lookhart responded, in effect, that unless someone was standing right next to him at the time, no one would ever know,” Wolverton wrote.
Lookhart is scheduled to be sentenced April 30.

Woman injures 2 after allegedly driving into traffic as a test of faith
A woman in Pennsylvania allegedly drove her car into oncoming traffic as a test of her faith in God and showed no remorse for her actions, according to authorities.
The incident occurred on Jan. 7 near Weatherly, Pennsylvania when 31-year-old Nadejda Reilly drove into oncoming traffic on Route 93, according to ABC News’ Pittsburgh affiliate station WTAE.
An investigator who spoke to Reilly said that she told him she had been driving around for several hours waiting for a calling from God when she decided to take action into her own hands and drive into an oncoming vehicle.
“Reilly related God took care of her by not having her injured,” wrote Trooper Bruce Balliet in an arrest affidavit. “Reilly expressed no concerns or remorse for the victims. Reilly also stated she did not care if the other people were injured because God would have taken care of them.”
Reilly, from Drums, Pennsylvania, had her $50,000 bail revoked and was charged with aggravated assault and other offenses over allegations that she purposely caused the accident that injured two people in the vehicle that she collided with.
The two people in the car that Reilly collided with were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries.
Reilly’s lawyer, Andrew Theyken Bench, filed a notice with the Carbon County court saying that Reilly planned to waive her formal arraignment but declined to offer further comment on Friday.

Los Angeles teachers sue Delta after jet fuel dump over schools, playgrounds
“Students began screaming and crying because their eyes and skin were burning. Fear, dread, panic, and helplessness ensued,” according to a teacher.
Four Los Angeles teachers sued Delta Airlines less than a week after a China-bound plane dumped fuel over playgrounds and schools, citing emotional anguish and distress and accusing the pilot of failing to follow protocol.
The teachers, who have not been identified, say the airline was negligent by allowing the plane to depart in the first place.
In their suit, the teachers from Park Avenue Elementary School in south Los Angeles County, some 17 miles from Los Angeles International Airport, said they could feel fuel on their clothing, skin and eyes. The exposure caused the women to feel dizzy, nauseated and sick, attorney Gloria Allred said. Young students screamed and cried, she said.
“They also suffered severe emotional distress from the knowledge that they had involuntarily ingested toxins,” Allred said in a statement Friday. “Their severe emotional distress includes the reasonable fear that the exposure to and ingestion of jet fuel might produce serious health consequences in the future.”
The teachers are seeking compensatory damages.
Delta Airlines did not respond to a request for comment Friday, but has previously said the fuel dump was “required as part of normal procedure to reach a safe landing weight.”
On Tuesday, Delta Flight 89, which was headed to Shanghai, experienced engine trouble shortly after takeoff. The pilot declared an in-flight emergency and notified air traffic control personnel that the plane needed to return to LAX. The pilot did not inform the control tower that the plane would need to dump fuel to lighten its load, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The teachers’ lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleged that the Delta pilot “was specifically asked” by air traffic control personnel if he needed to dump fuel and the pilot allegedly replied “negative.”
“We’ve got it under control,” the pilot said, according to the lawsuit.
Allred said that if the pilot had properly alerted air traffic personnel on the ground, the flight would have been directed to a safe location and altitude from which it could dump fuel without posing a risk to the general public.
The pilot dropped fuel at around 2,000 feet, hitting several schools in its path.
One of the teachers in the suit said her fifth-grade students initially thought the jet fuel was rain. The children looked up “only to have noxious liquid then overwhelm [their] eyes, mouths, noses, lungs and skin,” the teacher said in a statement.
“I immediately began to rush my students indoors, as the fumes were stifling,” she said. “Students began screaming and crying because their eyes and skin were burning. Fear, dread, panic, and helplessness ensued.”

Oprah says Russell Simmons ‘attempted to pressure’ her out of producing sex assault documentary
Russell Simmons tried to force Oprah Winfrey out of working on the documentary about his sexual assault allegations but it wasn’t his efforts that caused her to ditch the project, the television icon has revealed.
Winfrey announced last week she was stepping away from the “On the Record” project as its executive producer, nearly one month after receiving backlash from Simmons. She also shared that it will no longer air on Apple TV+.
Now, in a new statement to Fox News, Winfrey revealed what exactly was going on behind the scenes and detailed Simmons’ attempts to stop her involvement.
“He did reach out multiple times and attempted to pressure me,” Winfrey told Fox News through a spokesperson on Saturday.
The spokesperson added that Winfrey’s decision to separate herself from the documentary was not due to Simmons’ incessant attempts. Instead, Winfrey found inconsistencies in the reporting for the “On the Record” documentary, specifically with the story coming from one of the music producer’s accusers, Drew Dixon.
Despite her exit, Winfrey’s spokesperson confirmed the media mogul believes Dixon as well as the other women who come forward in the film.
“First and foremost, she believes all of the women,” the spokesperson told Fox News.
The spokesperson added that Winfrey felt the film did not need to be rushed to the Sundance Film Festival, scheduled to premiere on Jan. 25.
Winfrey announced her decision to step down as the documentary’s executive producer in a statement to Fox News last week.
“I have decided that I will no longer be executive producer on the untitled Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering documentary and it will not air on Apple TV+,” Winfrey shared in a statement. “First and foremost, I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard. In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.
“Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering are talented filmmakers. I have great respect for their mission but given the filmmakers’ desire to premiere the film at the Sundance Film Festival before I believe it is complete, I feel it’s best to step aside. I will be working with Time’s Up to support the victims and those impacted by abuse and sexual harassment.”
Dixon is one of the multiple women who made sexual assault allegations against Simmons, 62. The famed record executive was accused of rape by at least three women in 2017 and adamantly denied the allegations.
Simmons penned his own message to Winfrey last month maintaining his innocence, which he reposted again following the news of Oprah’s exit.
“Dearest OPRAH, you have been a shining light to my family and my community,” he wrote. “It’s so troubling that you choose to single me out in your recent documentry [sic]. I have already admitted to being a playboy (more appropriately titled today ‘womanizer’) sleeping with and putting myself in more compromising situations than almost any man I know. … So many that some could reinterpret or reimagine a different recollection of the same experiences.”
“I have taken and passed nine 3-hour lie detector tests,” he added. “These stories are UNUSABLE.”
Rapper 50 Cent also previously called out Winfrey via his social media accounts.
“I don’t understand why Oprah is going after black men,” 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, wrote on social media. “No Harvey Weinstein, No Epstein, just Micheal [sic] jackson and Russell Simmons this s–t is sad.”
In a joint statement to Fox News, Simmons’ silence-breakers and survivors said: “We are more than victims of rape. We are Black women. We are mothers, daughters, sisters and friends insisting on our right to live and work free from sexual violence and abuse. We will not back down, and we will not be silenced. We are not afraid. When we raised our anguished voices to say, ‘No! Stop! Don’t’ to Russell Simmons, he ignored us.”

Deaf man sues Porn Hub over lack of closed captions
NEW YORK – A New York man is suing Pornhub’s parent company Mindgeek for allegedly failing to provide proper closed captions for deaf and hearing impaired pornography consumers.
Yaroslav Suris, who is deaf, says he was denied equal access to such titles as “Sexy Cop Gets Witness to Talk,” “Hot Step Aunt Babysits Disobedient Nephew” and other videos on Mindgeek sites Pornhub, Redtube and YouPorn, according to a court filing with the Eastern District of New York.
“Without closed captioning deaf and hard-of-hearing people cannot enjoy video content on the Defendants (sic) Websites while the general public can,” the court document reads.
The Brooklyn man’s attorney noted in the filing that hearing impaired Pornhub viewers would also like to access premium and subscription content, but it wouldn’t be worth it without closed captioning.
“The Websites (sic) numerous videos which cannot be accessed by deaf and hard of hearing individuals are in violation of the ADA (American’s with Disabilities Act) and New York laws,” the court document reads. “Videos include most of the Websites (sic) videos in addition to the videos the Plaintiff tried to access mentioned herein.”
In a statement to TMZ Friday afternoon, Pornhub Vice President Corey Price said:
“We understand that Yaroslav Suris is suing Pornhub for claiming we’ve denied the deaf and hearing impaired access to our videos. While we do not generally comment on active lawsuits, we’d like to take this opportunity to point out that we do have a closed captions category.”
Suris seeks full compliance with the ADA and New York law, as well as unspecified damages.

Woman stuffs 6 pounds of ham in skirt, walks out of store
(KFOR/CNN) – Surveillance video shows a woman stealing an entire 6-pound ham by sliding it down her skirt at a grocery store in Oklahoma City.
Alex Kotlovenko, who owns the Europe Oklahoma Store, said he noticed some items missing on Sunday. When he checked the security cameras, he couldn’t believe what he saw.
“It’s magic, it is literally magic,” Kotlovenko told KFOR-TV. “We never witnessed it happening, so it’s really hard to track someone down and stop them at the door.”
The video shows the woman and two other men looking at a cooler. The woman then pulls out a ham, looks around, and puts the entire ham into her skirt.
Kotlovenko said she did the same thing with several packages of bacon.
“It was a surprise moment more than anything. That you can walk out of a store, that’s 1000 square feet,” he said. With seven or eight pounds of stuff in your skirt.”
After getting a good look at the people in the video, Kotlovenko said he’s pretty sure he’s seen them in the store before.
“I feel like I’ve seen them specifically around. One of the cameras caught the front of the SUV,” he said. “I feel like I’ve seen them in the parking lot in passing.”
To keep this thing from happening again the store owners said he wants to put up a sign banning baggy clothes. But a lawyer said he has to be careful — only refusing service strictly on clothing and not by race, color, creed, or religion.
“As long as the denial of service is uniformly applied, and not based on one of those prohibited categories or protected categories. Then, a business owner is within his rights to set certain standards,” attorney Casey Davis said.
Davis said fortunately for the European Store Oklahoma, “ham-burglars are not a protected class.”
The surveillance footage provided a good look at the woman’s face, but there’s no word on whether police have opened an investigation into the theft.

Michigan Man Returns Over $43,000 Found in a Couch He Purchased From a Thrift Store
What would you do if you found $43,000 in a piece of furniture you purchased from a thrift store?
It happened to one Michigan man, and he decided to return all the cash.
Howard Kirby likes to shop at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Owosso, located about 30 miles west of Flint.
He purchased a couch from the store in December for his man cave, but this weekend he made a shocking discovery. The couch was filled with thousands of dollars in cash.
“I still have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming or something,” he said.
Kirby said he had the ottoman for a few weeks before noticing it was uncomfortable. That’s when his daughter decided to open it up.
“That’s when she started pulling out this,” Kirby said.
A total of $43,170 was found in the ottoman cushion.
Kirby said he didn’t feel right keeping the money. So, he reached out to the store to find out who had donated the couch.
It turns out, it was Kim Fauth-Newberry. The couch originally belonged to her grandfather, who died last year.
“It’s just crazy,” Fauth-Newberry said.
On Jan. 16, the ReStore held a big surprise for Fauth-Newberry to give back every penny found in the cushion.
“It’s completely awesome,” she said.
Kirby said an attorney told him he had no legal obligation to give the money back, but he felt he had to for moral reasons.
That is something Rick Merling, the ReStore manager, thinks is heartwarming.
“To me, this is someone that despite what they’re going through – and in spite of their own needs – says ‘I’m just going to do the right thing,’” Merling said.
Kirby said he could’ve used the money – he needs a new roof badly – but he feels better knowing the money is in the rightful hands.
“I always thought, ‘What would I do if that ever happened?’ Now I know, and it makes me feel good,” Kirby said.

Wisconsin Man Allegedly Sold Marijuana Mixed With His Dead Mother’s Ashes
A 26-year-old man is accused of selling drugs that were mixed with his mother’s ashes.
Police said Austin Schroeder, of Menomonee Falls, admitted to investigators he cut the drugs using his dead mother’s cremated remains.
But he didn’t explain why.
Investigators said they received a tip about Schroeder and his girlfriend selling drugs out of their apartment.
According to a criminal complaint, twice last week, investigators sent an informant to the apartment.
They said the informant was able to buy marijuana.
A few days later, police returned and searched the apartment.
Investigators said they found 70 grams of marijuana, a small amount of MDMA, bongs and a drug scale.
According to the complaint, Schroeder tried to explain the “large amount of unknown powder and vegetable material located in the apartment,” saying he “mixed these substances for a variety of reasons.”
Schroeder said his mom died a little more than a year ago, and, according to the complaint, “Schroeder indicates he took some of her ashes and mixed them with a variety of substances, some of which he ultimately ingested.”
The complaint doesn’t indicate if he mixed the cremated remains in any of the drugs he’s accused of selling.
Schroeder and Kaitlin Geiger, 21, of Menomonee Falls, each face felony drug charges.
There’s no explanation in the complaint for why he allegedly admitted to ingesting his mom’s ashes.
The couple appeared Tuesday in Waukesha County Court.
They were released on a signature bond and scheduled to be back in court Jan. 28.

WeHo Man, that goes by “Sexy Vegan”, Convicted of Disturbing Peace After Alleged Dog Sex Assault Posted on Social Media
A West Hollywood man named Sexy Vegan who was arrested last year on suspicion of sexually assaulting his pit bull in a video posted to social media pleaded no contest Friday to a charge of disturbing the peace, prosecutors said.
Vegan, also known as Hansel DeBartolo III, 37, was immediately sentenced to two years of summary probation and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service, as well as a 52-week sex offender program, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
“In addition, the defendant’s dogs which were previously seized will not be returned and he will be prohibited from owning any new animals during his probationary period,” prosecutors said in a written statement.
Vegan was arrested in September, three weeks after officials said he made the disturbing post online.
“Vegan posted a video on social media depicting a pit bull licking the defendant’s rear end,” according to the statement.
If he had been convicted as initially charged, Vegan could have faced up to a year in county jail.
He was released from custody on a bond pending legal proceedings five days after his Sept. 26 arrest, records show.
Vegan has twice appeared on “Dr. Phil,” where family members complained of unusual behavior such as publicly dancing in little clothing, carrying a full-length mirror around in public and troubles with the law.
