Article Originally posted August 6th 2016. I’ll have more from Morris Day and The Time on my TBT next week! I am so glad Morris talked and squashed the beef between him and his long time friend Prince.
Back in January, Morris Day got a surprise call from Paisley Park: Prince wanted his childhood friend, musical compadre and on-screen rival to come to Minneapolis with his band, the Time, and play a private show.
“It was the first time in a while that we’d had a chance to sit down and chat,” Day tells The Post. “It had been a few years since I’d seen him. I questioned why he was calling me up at the time. In hindsight, it’s almost like he felt something or knew something was up.”
Barely three months later, Prince was dead. For Day — performing Aug. 12 with the Time at the Ford Ampitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk, on a bill that includes Kool & the Gang — that Paisley Park encounter was the final chapter in a lifelong relationship that helped spawn some of the most beloved and deliriously funky moments in pop-music history.
Day, now 58, had played with Prince since their time in the Minneapolis band Grand Central in the ’70s. When Prince made it as a solo star, he took his buddy with him. Day co-wrote “Partyup” for the 1980 album “Dirty Mind,” and Prince set up the Time, with Day as lead singer, as a way to pursue funk music on the side.
Their partnership peaked with the 1984 movie “Purple Rain.” While Prince burned up the screen with his live performances, his portrayal of the brooding lead character, The Kid, in the non-music scenes seemed wooden. Day stepped in, pretty much playing himself — flamboyant, sexy, packing a wardrobe that would make Huggy Bear envious, his vanity assisted by his mirror-carrying sidekick, Jerome Benton.
In short, the movie’s enduring appeal is due almost as much to Day as it is to Prince himself.
“I’ve heard that a few times,” Day says carefully, trying to avoid overshadowing his old friend. “He comes across as this serious, dark guy [in the movie]. But the Prince I knew was quite the comedian. We talked s–t and laughed all the time.”
The Time went on to have some minor hits with “Jungle Love” and “The Bird” (both featured in “Purple Rain”) before cracking the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 1990 with “Jerk Out,” a song co-written by Prince.
But there were tensions, too. The Time’s drummer Jellybean Johnson recalls Prince and Day brawling on the “Purple Rain” set. Years later, Prince prohibited Day from using the name the Time on recorded work.
The Paisley Park show included Day and Prince enjoying one last dance. “I heard he was having a good time when we were playing,” Day says now. “There will always be a void. But life goes on. If it were me, I would want people to get on with it. I’m pretty sure he would want the same.”

What can I say about The S.O.S Band? They’re the finest? They’re musically good to me? They make sure to tell you that nobodies gonna love you like they do. They try to tell you that one of the girls is a weekend kinda girl. I had problems trying to pick an album from them. The S.O.S Band is one of those bands that’s really underrated. I do know one thing once you saw their album covers you knew who they were. See ya’ll next TBT week! I’m gonna come through with the group The Time.
Gwyneth Paltrow Denies Amber Rose’s Claim That She’s Beyonce’s ‘Becky with the Good Hair’
Gwyneth Paltrow is shutting down Amber Rose‘s claim that she is the alleged mistress whom Beyoncé references in her Lemonade track, “Sorry.”
Rose recently named the Oscar-winning actress as the identity behind “Becky with the good hair,” the woman at the center of the JAY Z cheating rumors in April 2016 when Beyoncé released the latest solo album that contained many revelations of her marriage to the rapper.
However, a rep for Paltrow tells PEOPLE that Rose’s allegations are “completely absurd and 100 percent false.”
A source also adds, “Gwyneth and Beyoncé and JAY Z are still very close friends so none of this makes any sense.”
“It was literally a joke on a podcast!” says a source close to Rose. “She was only kidding.”
Rose made the joke during the latest episode of Spencer and Heidi Pratt’s podcast, Make Speidi Famous Again, telling The Hills couple, “I definitely think that Gwyneth Paltrow is ‘Becky with the good hair.’ I really feel like she’s the one who was, like, f—ing JAY Z.”
Rose also speculated that Paltrow has not been seen publicly with Beyoncé and/or JAY Z. “They were like friends, and then, like, you don’t see Gwyneth Paltrow with Beyoncé anymore. But like Beyonce’s still with Jay,” she said.
Paltrow has had a very public friendship with Beyoncé and JAY Z with both of their children growing up together.
The music-mogul couple has been part of Apple, 14, and 12-year-old Moses Martin’s lives for a long time. The Goop creator even dedicated her 2016 cookbook, It’s All Easy, to Bey and Jay’s daughter Blue Ivy, now 6.
Paltrow and her Coldplay frontman ex also were among the select few to attend Beyoncé and JAY Z’s low-key wedding in 2008.
When Beyoncé released “Sorry,” she left all women named Becky cringing, and everyone else wondering who the mystery mistress she seemed to be referencing, could be.
Following 2014’s elevator-gate, when video surfaced of sister Solange Knowles attacking JAY Z as Beyoncé stood and watched, reports circulated that the incident was related to JAY Z having a mistress, though the alleged “Becky” was never verified.
After Beyoncé’s Lemonade HBO special, some fans accused designer Rachel Roy as being “Becky,” after she reportedly “provoked” Solange in the infamous elevator incident. Roy later denied the “Becky” rumors, telling PEOPLE she respects “love, marriages, families and strength.”
Kelly Rowland Gets Giant Hand Tattoo To Show Love To Demi Lovato
The lion tattoo appears to be temporary.
Taking to her Instagram story, Kelly noted that Demi was on her mind, getting the lion piece sketched out and placed on her own hand. A touching display of love and support, Rowland and Lovato have been friends since their work together on the X Factor. Remaining close since filming, Kelly clearly has a lot of love for Lovato, proving that her heart weighs heavy after a scary hospitalization earlier in the week.
Kelly’s act is the latest in a string of celebrities wishing well for the troubled star. Drug addiction is a difficult disease to overcome but Demi has proven to be capable of pulling through in the past. We’re praying for her to get well soon.

Now I’ve been lovin’ this Neosoul band for sometime now!! The lead singer Syd can sang. Her vocals are so unique. SIGH if only mainstream radio would play Neosoul. I bring you The Internet and their latest album Hive Mind. My favorite from the album is called come over. The lyrics and the music video is so relatable for anyone you can’t tell if this song is for a heterosexual couple or a lesbian couple a gay couple or whatever couple. I JUST LOVE THIS SONG for this purpose . In fact all their albums are for ANYONE in love or wanting to be loved. See you next week ya’ll
Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine hospitalized after he was pistol-whipped, kidnapped, robbed, TMZ reports
NEW YORK — Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was taken to the hospital after he was kidnapped, pistol-whipped and robbed, TMZ reports.
Sources told TMZ the 22-year-old Brooklyn-born rapper, whose birth name is Daniel Hernandez, was driving home after working on a music video in Brooklyn when a car pulled up and blocked his driveway.
Three hooded gunmen got out the car and allegedly knocked the rapper unconscious and put him in the back seat of their car, threatening to kill him if he didn’t comply with their demands.
The gunmen returned to Hernandez’s home, with the rapper still in the car, and allegedly took about $750,000 worth of jewelry and between $15,000 and $20,000 in cash.
The gunman drove away with Hernandez still in the back car, sources tell TMZ, but he was able to jump out and run away. A stranger called 911 and he was taken to the hospital.
Earlier this month, he was held in Rikers Island’s contagious unit after he was arrested for allegedly choking a 16-year-old at a Texas mall.
He was later granted bail.
Hernandez also faces a misdemeanor assault charge after he was accused of assaulting an NYPD lieutenant.
Hernandez allegedly grabbed and squeezed an NYPD lieutenant’s hand, causing the lieutenant to “suffer substantial pain,” and the officer’s fingers to swell and become red, according to a criminal complaint provided by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office in May.
The alleged incident occurred after the rapper was arrested for driving without a license.
