‘The Four’ Season 2: Sharaya J, All Performances
I enjoyed watching The Four, a tv show where contestants sing to compete for a chance to be one of the four finalists that will receive P. Diddy, Meghan Trainor, and DJ Khalid’s help to become a best-selling artist.
These shows favor singing artists, but a few rappers made it, Sharay J being my favorite. She performed on the show with cancer and slayed every single performance. Watch all of her performances below, especially the first song, a Plain Jane cover:
Evans student stunned after receiving $100K for college tuition from Beyonce, Jay-Z
Keshawn Morgan, a senior at Evans High School, had never been to a concert before. So he was thrilled on Wednesday when his local Boys & Girls Club — where he’d been going since second grade — invited him to the Beyoncé and Jay-Z show that night.
When club leaders told him and the other teenagers who had been invited that they had V.I.P. seating, he was even more excited.
But when DJ Khaled, who opened the show at Camping World Stadium, told the audience he had a surprise $100,000 college scholarship to announce, the 17-year-old didn’t think much about it at all.
Until the performer began to describe the winner, saying he was ranked third in his class and was president of the Spanish honor society, and then a puzzled Keshawn thought, “What? That’s me.”
A video of the event shows his mouth drop and his hands briefly cover his face as he realizes he’s the winner, and then his name is announced. He and his friends erupt in cheers, as they jump up and down and hug him.
“Oh my gosh,” a stunned Keshawn said in the video posted on Facebook by the Boys & Girls Cubs of America. “I can’t believe this. I want to be a lawyer. I can’t believe I won this.”
In a phone interview Thursday, he still sounded stunned..
“I really couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I couldn’t even like put it in words,” he added. “It was crazy.”

#ThrowbackThursday: JLo and Ja Rule
I vaguely remember growing up and hearing “Cuz I’m real, and I…”. About two years ago, a few celebrities started crying #AllLivesMatter, among them being Jennifer Lopez. After Ti did a video discussing this two years ago, she reminded me the song is called “I’m Real”.
After one of those stale award shows aired and JLo and Ja Rule performed their song I’m Real, I have been bumping it non-stop. And I soon after discovered Ain’t It Funny.

Spike Lee Unveils Previously Unreleased Prince Song, ‘Mary Don’t You Weep’ for BlacKkKlansman
It begins with piano riffs and drum. Prince’s dulcet falsetto pours out the first verse, then drops a register for verse two. It is, in a word, sublime. It is Prince at his most soulful, with the growls and runs that mark his genius.
The song: “Mary Don’t You Weep,” a gospel standard, a Negro spiritual, or a “slave song” that has rocked the ages, one that encapsulates our pain, but still rings out with hope.
Though it’s been covered by many, Prince’s version was heretofore unheard by the masses by Prince because it was unreleased.
But that all changed on Wednesday, when filmmaker Spike Lee released a video of the soaring song for the BlacKkKlansman movie, a film based on the real-life story of Ron Stallworth (John David Washington), the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department, who courageously takes on the Ku Klux Klan.
Coincidentally, I had been listening to Aretha’s version of the song since her death, but this one is just as haunting.
Let the church say Amen.
