Parents Of R. Kelly Victim Launch ‘Abuse Hotline’ Against The R&B Singer
The family of one of R. Kelly’s alleged abuse victims has created an “abuse hotline” for victims to report their encounters with the R&B singer.
Tim and Jonjelyn Savage first accused R. Kelly of brainwashing their daughter, Joycelyn, and holding her against her will in a July 2017 Buzzfeed article. The Savages said they haven’t seen their daughter since December 2016 and last spoke to her on the phone in December 2017. Though Joycelyn has come out to dispute her parents’ claims, she still remains with the singer.
According to Mic, the Savages have been inundated with calls from women or parents with their own stores of abuse by the R&B singer since the Buzzfeed article. Because many were too scared to speak out, it pushed the couple to launch the “R. Kelly abuse hotline” this week.
“One reason I feel that he’s been getting away with a lot of the allegations for the last two decades is because people feel he has money and power and they don’t have the resources to fight him,” Jonjelyn Savage told Mic.
R. Kelly has been accused of sexual misconduct for over two decades, but the calls for him to be held accountable have grown in the past two years. An online campaign to #MuteRKelly has picked up steam, resulting in several concerts being canceled. The singer was also called out earlier this year by influential women like Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, and #MeToo movement founder, Tarana Burke.
In July, he released a 19-minute song called, “I Admit,” apparently bearing his soul about a slew of topics from his illiteracy and his predilection for young women, to his current status as “a broke-a** legend” and “the most disrespected artist” in the game.
He has also denied all of the accusations against him, calling the recent #MuteRKelly and Time’s Up campaigns against him an “attempted public lynching.”
Courtsey of Andrea Kelly
Kelly’s wife, Andrea files for an order of protection alleging Kelly hit her. They later reconcile.
His ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, has also shared her own story of abuse while marriage, telling The View earlier this month that she wanted to bring “validity” to the women who have come out with sexual abuse claims against him.
The new hotline allows callers to leave a message detailing their allegations. As more people come forward, the Savages say they want to build a case against R. Kelly.
“There’s no age limit on being mind-controlled, drugged, brainwashed, there’s no age limit on that,” Jonjelyn Savage said. “So the more we have more young ladies or even men, or parents that are willing to speak out, the more we think it can help our daughter as well as helping other victims.”

Gladys Knight honors Aretha Franklin with gospel tribute at AMAs
Gladys Knight fronted a soulful gospel tribute to the late Aretha Franklin on Tuesday at the 2018 American Music Awards. Ledisi, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and CeCe Winans joined for the all-star medley performance, which highlighted Franklin’s gospel roots and her seminal 1972 album, “Amazing Grace.”
Knight opened the show-closing set with a tender version of “Amazing Grace,” belting over piano and organ. The other singers followed with emphatic, spiritual takes on songs like “Climbing Higher Mountains,” “Mary, Don’t You Weep” and “How I Got Over.”
Knight, a personal friend of Franklin’s, also performed at the soul legend’s Detroit, Michigan funeral, singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Her appearance, however, was clouded with confusion when a local TV station reported that the vocalist said she was battling pancreatic cancer – the disease that killed Franklin. Knight subsequently clarified that she had previously been diagnosed with stage one breast cancer but is now “cancer-free.”
Franklin died in August at age 76, prompting tributes from numerous artists, including Mavis Staples, Smokey Robinson, Chris Stapleton, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Record executive Clive Davis is reportedly planning an all-star Franklin tribute concert for November 14th at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

Yoko Ono releases new version of John Lennon’s Imagine
The co-writer of her husband’s signature solo hit releases new ambient version taken from new album Warzone
Forty-seven years after she co-wrote it with her husband John Lennon, Yoko Ono has released a new version of his signature solo hit, Imagine.
Taken from her forthcoming new album Warzone, Ono, 85, creates a new arrangement, first set to drifting ambient tones before the famous piano motif is brought in later on.
Until recently, the song was credited solely to Lennon; Ono was added as a co-writer in 2017. The song’s central lyrical structure, a series of wistful, utopian scenarios, was inspired by Ono’s poetry collection Grapefruit, which featured lines like: “Imagine your head filled with pencil leads / Imagine one of them broken.” Lennon had acknowledged her contribution in a 1980 interview, saying: “A lot of it – the lyric and the concept – came from Yoko. But those days I was a bit more selfish, a bit more macho, and I sort of omitted to mention her contribution. But it was right out of Grapefruit, her book.”
Warzone reimagines other songs she originally wrote between 1970 and 2009. She has since continued her career in visual and conceptual art, unveiling her first permanent installation, Skylanding, in 2016. She also recorded a voice part for Wes Anderson’s 2018 film Isle of Dogs, playing a scientist called Yoko Ono.

Justine Skye Is Bold And Sincere In New Single “Build” Featuring Arin Ray
The soulful new single discusses the ideal partner.
Throughout the track, Justine explores the concept of designing the ideal partner. “How many times have you sat there and wished you could build a person who is ideal for you—or what you think is ideal in your head,” she asked recently. “At the conclusion of the song, I realize you can’t build the perfect person, because there is no perfect person. What you have to do is make sure you’re perfect for yourself.”

Angie Stone is ‘still waiting on a check’ from Bruno Mars after he admitted Uptown Funk was inspired by her group’s 1979 song Funk You Up
Angie Stone still hasn’t been paid for her contribution to Bruno Mars’ Grammy-winning track Uptown Funk.
In fact, the 56-year-old soul singer has claimed that two of her songs with rap group The Sequence were used as inspiration for Mars’ track.
The R&B songstress sat down with Sister Circle Live this week and discussed the lack of recognition she’s received for her 1979 song Funk You Up and how it was used in Mars’ collaboration with Mark Ronson.
‘He never sampled it, he did an interpolation, which is when you re-record something and kinda twist it around,’ the Wish I Didn’t Miss You hitmaker told the hosts.
‘He did give us accolades, they just kinda got rid of it. He made a post on Twitter, months before, saying that his inspiration came from The Sequence,’ she explained.
The South Carolina born star then added that a second song by her rap group was used in Uptown Funk.
She explained, ‘He also used a song called Let’s Dance, when you hear that “Mm, jump on it,” you know, that was part of The Sequence’s repertoire as well.
‘So it was actually two songs in the song.’ she added.
It was reported in December 2017 that Angie and bandmates Cheryl Cook and Gwendolyn Chisolm are suing Mars and Ronson and seeking financial restitution for the ‘significant and substantially similar compositional elements’ of Uptown Funk to their track Funk You Up.
‘He never came back, and I’m still waiting on him to at least admit hey, we deserve this, because about 10 people have got their checks and I’m still waiting on mine.’ Angie told Sister Circle.
The Grammy-nominated singer is staying upbeat about the whole thing, however, as she quipped, ‘I’ll be rich and famous one day!’.
The Sequence was the first female rap team signed to the Sugar Hill label and one of the pioneers of old school hip hop.
When released, Funk You Up was the third rap song ever to reach Billboard’s Top 50 Singles.
The rappers want an undisclosed amount of money from the singer – Mars- and songwriter – Ronson- of Uptown Funk.
Both Mars and Ronson have found themselves in legal trouble before over copyright issues with the song.
In September, a suit was filed by Lastrada Entertainment Company, Ltd., the music publishing house that holds the copyright to Zapp’s 1980 song More Bounce to the Ounce.
The court documents claimed: ‘Mark Ronson failed in his goal to write something new. Substantial parts of ‘Uptown Funk’ were copied from ‘More Bounce to the Ounce.’
‘The significant and substantial similarities between the two songs have been widely commented on by ordinary observers, musicians, independent critics and commentators.’
The lawsuit draws comparisons to the settlement Marvin Gaye’s family received after Robin Thicke and Pharell Williams’ Blurred Lines unintentionally copied Gaye’s 1977 hit Got to Give It Up.
