Ariana Grande sued over ‘God Is a Woman’ video
Article via FOXNews
A Las Vegas artist accused Grande, 25, of copying an image of a woman’s silhouette in front of a candle for the steamy clip.
Vladimir Kush and his company Kush Fine Arts Las Vegas alleged that the image in Grande’s music video was “nearly identical” to Kush’s paintings that he copyrighted in 1999 and 2000.
The “God Is a Woman” music video has racked up nearly 200 million views since its debut in July 2018.
Kush is seeking unspecified damages from Grande and requested the music video be removed from the Internet.
The lawsuit lists Grande under her legal name, Ariana Grande-Butera, along with defendants Universal Music Group and the video director, producer and production company.
Susan Gutierrez, an attorney who represented Grande in a 2016 copyright infringement lawsuit, declined to comment to the Associated Press about the Las Vegas case.
The 2016 case, filed in Los Angeles, involved a songwriter’s claim that Grande’s song “One Last Time” was similar to his work of two years earlier. It was settled in August 2017.
Kush’s attorney, Mark Tratos, also declined comment to AP about the current suit.
It’s the latest accusation Grande faces of allegedly copying others’ work.
Last month, rapper Princess Nokia accused Grande of stealing lyrics from her song “Mine” for Grande’s smash “7 Rings.”
Rappers Soulja Boy and 2 Chainz later accused Grande of biting their work for the song as well, though 2 Chainz would later join forces with the singer for a “7 Rings” remix.
Grande has not yet publicly commented on the allegations of stealing others’ work.
A rep for Grande did not return a request for comment on the lawsuit.

R. Kelly announces overseas tour
Article via CNN
Embattled singer R. Kelly announced new tour dates in a tweet Tuesday, but the tweet was later deleted. The announcement promised shows in Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
No further details were offered.
The singer has been embroiled in renewed controversy in the wake of the recent Lifetime docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly,” which chronicles allegations of abuse, predatory behavior and pedophilia against the singer.
Kelly has consistently denied the allegations, some of which date back decades.
Kelly’s attorney Steve Greenberg told CNN Wednesday he does “not believe that is accurate,” when asked about the tour announcement.
In 2017, the #MuteRKelly movement began to encourage radio stations to stop playing the singer’s music.
Since then it has expanded to protesting Kelly’s shows and calling on various businesses, including RCA Records, Spotify and Apple Music to stop doing business with the singer.
Last month, Kelly and Sony — the parent company of Kelly’s record label, RCA Records — reportedly agreed to part ways. The singer has continued to book shows in recent months.
In November, the Tampa Bay Times reported that a planned protest of the Kelly’s concert on the campus of the University of South Florida never materialized.
“If there’s anybody in here that feels they are going to be offended tonight, they need to leave, because it’s about to get freakier than a mother,” the paper reported the Grammy-winning artist as saying during his show.
Kelly’s announcement of his new shows was met with both anger and support.
“Hopefully Kelz will do a tour here in Chicago or the USA he has fans who know he is #survivingGroupieLies,” one person tweeted. German company Eventim has promoted two concerts for Kelly in Germany in April.

James Ingram and Michael McDonald Yah Mo Be There
When I was growing up I used to love this song!! It made me feel so good inside. Doing my research for this song I know exactly why and I finally know what Yah Mo Be There means!! A lot of us including myself thought they was saying imma gonna be there.
“Yah Mo B There” is an R&B song by American singers James Ingram and Michael McDonald. It was written by Ingram, McDonald, Rod Temperton, and producer Quincy Jones. The song originally appeared on Ingram’s 1983 album It’s Your Night, released on Jones’s Qwest Records label. It was released as a single in late 1983, peaking at No. 19 on the U.S. charts in 1984, and No. 44 on the UK charts also in 1984, (the remixed version by Jellybean Benitez hit No. 12 in the Spring of 1985 in the UK), and has subsequently appeared on several of Ingram and McDonald’s greatest hits albums as well as various 1980s compilation albums.
The performance earned the duo a 1985 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. It was one of a series of very successful duets involving Ingram. It also received a nomination for Best R&B Song, losing to “I Feel for You” (Prince).
This song is a shoutout to GOD! The actually spelling of the song title is Yah Mo B There. Yah is a shortened version of Yahweh, which means God in Hebrew. So the title literally means “God will be there” and is interpreted as “God be with you.

Mariah Carey slammed by women’s rights activists for Saudi Arabia performance
Article via FOX
Mariah Carey may want to follow her own advice and proceed with caution when it comes to performing in oppressive regimes, activists advise.
The iconic songbird will perform in Saudi Arabia on Thursday for the first time, outraging women’s rights activists who want her to pull out in support of detained women in the country.
The Associated Press reports that Carey, 48, is the biggest start to perform in Saudi Arabia since the notoriously conservative country loosened their strict entertainment restrictions, but activists claim Carey’s show is an effort from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to improve the kingdom’s reputation after the Oct. 2 murder of Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
Reps for the singer told The Associated Press in a statement that when the “Hero” singer was “presented with the offer to perform for an international and mixed gender audience in Saudi Arabia, Mariah accepted the opportunity as a positive step towards the dissolution of gender segregation.”
“As the first female international artist to perform in Saudi Arabia, Mariah recognizes the cultural significance of this event and will continue to support global efforts towards equality for all,” the statement continued.
In December, Saudi Arabia hosted a Formula-E car race in Riyadh that featured concerts by Enrique Iglesias, The Black Eyed Peas and DJ David Guetta.
Omaima Al-Najjar, a Saudi woman who fled the kingdom to seek political refuge abroad, said that the concerts are a diversion from the Saudi-led war in Yemen against the neighboring country’s Houthi rebels, human rights abuses committed under the crown prince and repressive male guardianship laws that restrict women’s freedoms.
“The Saudi government is using entertainment to distract the people from human rights abuses because it can sense the anger among the public,” she said.
Al-Najjar is a co-founder of Women for Rights in Saudi Arabia, or WARSA, which launched a petition calling on Carey to boycott the country. The petition aimed to publicly pressure Carey because “she has power to stand for women … as an artist and as a female,” Al-Najjar said.
Activists are tweeting at Carey directly, urging her to take notice of the prominent Saudi women’s rights activists imprisoned since May who had long campaigned for social changes and women’s empowerment. The women, who include activists in their 20s as well as mothers, grandmothers and retired professors, have been accused of vague national security violations in connection to their human rights work.

jesse smallette late night attack
I’m going to be an asshole and have an opinion. Something about this attack does not sound right. I do hope that Jesse recovers and gets well. I know one thing I’m going to be keeping up with the story. Jesse may not have been looking for a late night snack in the food aisle. But he may have been looking for a hotdog and some nuts.
