Anti-porn group rips ‘explicit’ Grammys, calls show ‘hardcore porno’
The Grammys were an objectifying moral disgrace, according to this anti-sexploitation group.
The National Center on Sexual Exploitation has released a statement ripping the 2021 Grammys for including Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s X-rated pole-dancing performance.
“The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) says the CBS Grammys broadcast contributed to the sexual exploitation of women by glamorizing prostitution and stripping,” the anti-porn group wrote in its Monday release. “The performance by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion showed the two women and backup performers wearing thongs and lingerie, dancing on a stripper pole, and crawling around and twerking on a bed together.”
The group, which describes itself as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, was founded in 1962 and leads the fight to expose “the links between all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation,” including child sexual abuse, the public health harms of pornography and sexual objectification, according to its website.
The awards show, the statement continues, was a better fit for the cutting room floor of an adult-film studio than national television.
“In a performance that could have been cut from a hardcore pornography film, CBS allowed a glamorization of stripping and prostitution to be broadcast in front of a national audience — a portion of which were children — for no other reason than for TV ratings,” the center’s senior vice president and executive director Dawn Hawkins said. “Despite the ‘popularity’ of the song performed by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, CBS should have never allowed this kind of explicit performance to happen at the Grammys.”
Prostitution and stripping are “never empowering for women,” Hawkins goes on, arguing that the two only ever serve to “set up systems that exploit and oppress” the female-bodied.
Although Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” performance did inspire an immense amount of media coverage, it was not, in fact, able to score the Grammys good TV ratings: The award show’s ratings tanked this year, possibly to a record low. Early ratings from Nielsen have the awards drawing a measly 7.9 million total viewers, although the numbers are expected to climb incrementally when adjustments are made for time zones.

Lil Uzi Vert spends $24M on pink diamond face implant
The “XO TOUR Llif3” rapper, 26, is known to spend exorbitant amounts of money on watches, clothes, cars and all types of jewelry, but his latest purchase blows past all his previous splurges combined.
Last week, Lil Uzi — whose real name is Symere Bysil Woods — announced that he spent the past four years paying for a $24 million natural pink diamond that he planned to have implanted in his forehead.
When asked if he spent more on the diamond — which he said is between 10 and 11 carats and comes from his favorite jewelry designer, Elliot Eliantte — than he’s spent on his cars, the rapper replied, “Yes my Bugatti can’t even pay for it … all my cars together, plus home, this took so long now I can get this money.”
Responding to a fan who told the rapper he should just put the diamond in a ring, Uzi said, “If I lose the ring yeah U will make fun of me more than putting it in my forehead ha ha jokes on you ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha… And yes I do have insurance.”
On Tuesday, it appears Uzi followed through with his promise to have the gem placed in his face.
Fans immediately compared him to Vision, the Marvel superhero powered by the Mind Stone.
The inspiration behind the rapper’s look is unclear, though he’s long been interested in anime, the Heaven’s Gate cult and aliens.

Dr. Dre hospitalized after suffering brain aneurysm
Dr. Dre was hospitalized in Los Angeles on Monday after suffering a brain aneurysm.
The music mogul, as of Tuesday, was in stable condition at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Dre underwent several tests Tuesday as it was not immediately known what caused the condition, the source said.
Reps for Dre did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The 55-year-old’s hospitalization, which was first reported by TMZ, comes as he is in the midst of a bitter divorce with estranged wife Nicole Young.
Young is seeking nearly $2 million per month in spousal support, along with $5 million in legal fees, according to a September court filing.
The former couple married in an intimate ceremony in Hawaii in May 1996 and split last March, according to Dre.
They have two adult children together.
Young alleges that Dre forced her out of their home “on or about” April 2″ and “quickly plotted to secretly transfer their assets, to deny Nicole her equal share,” according to court papers.
She also filed a separate lawsuit claiming that she co-owns the trademark to Dre’s name, along with that of his iconic 1992 record, “The Chronic.”
But in 2016, Snoop Dogg told Seth Rogen that the slang term for high-potency marijuana came from a malapropism of “hydroponic.”

Normani Says Being in Fifth Harmony ‘Took a Toll’ on Her Confidence: ‘I Didn’t Believe in Myself’
Article via People
The “Motivation” singer, 24, opened up in the latest cover story for Women’s Health about her life in lockdown and how she keeps her high self-esteem after being in Fifth Harmony. (And PEOPLE has a first look at the cover!)
“[It] alters the perception you have of yourself,” she said of being overlooked in the group originally comprised of her, Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui. “Having certain things happen so blatantly while also feeling like the ‘other’ and being so young and hearing the public compare [us] took a toll on my confidence.”
“For a long time, I didn’t believe in myself because I didn’t feel like I was given the opportunity to,” she told the outlet.
Today, she says she does daily positive affirmations to start her day to boost her self-esteem.
“I look at myself in the mirror and manifest and speak things that I want to happen as if they already did as if I’m already that version of myself,” she said. According to the outlet, some of Normani’s go-to statements include You are one of the greatest entertainers. You are a representation for an entire generation. You have purpose.
Another boost in her confidence has been receiving the support of one of her favorite artists: Rihanna.
“It’s alarming when people you’ve looked up to, respect, and who kind of define who you are believe in you,” Normani said. “But it definitely gives me confidence.”
“I’m grateful to feel seen and heard and like I can be the voice for so many people. Being a Black woman, I feel we’re so multifaceted and have so much that we’re capable of,” she added. “It’s really important to show Black girls and Black boys they can be anything they want to be.”
The singer, a self-described “overachiever,” also opened up about making music and how she’s held herself at a high standard.
“For a long time, I was stressed out about checking boxes like, ‘Is this Black enough? Is this pop enough?’ But music started feeling way better when I just went into the studio with the mentality of being Normani,” she said. “People will always remember how you made them feel and what a record did for them. My lyrics have more depth, and they’re more intentional and come from a more authentic place, because I now feel more connected to myself than before.”
While she perfects her new music, the musician said she misses performing as she hunkers down during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’m at home when I’m onstage,” Normani says. “I don’t feel misunderstood, judged, like I have to fit inside a barrier. I feel like I can be anything.”
“Hopefully, in the next few years I’ll have life a little bit more figured out,” she later added. “But if I don’t, I’m okay. I don’t think we ever have it all figured out. But anything that God has placed on my heart, I want to be fearless in.”
Normani’s cover story for Women’s Health is out now.
