Barbra Streisand Upends the “Carpool Karaoke” Format, Just Because She Can
The singer took the driver’s seat for her trip around the block with James Corden.
There’s no “Carpool Karaoke” quite like a Barbra Streisand “Carpool Karaoke”—because for one thing, as Late Late Show viewers saw on Thursday night, when Babs carpools, she’s the one in the driver’s seat. Would you expect anything less?
That’s right—it was Streisand who picked Corden up this time. And although she was reluctant to listen to music on their journey at first, Streisand eventually relented. The two belted their way through “No More Tears,” “The Way We Were,” “Imagine/What a Wonderful World,” and her new Donald Trump-inspired tune, “Don’t Lie to Me.” Oh, and Corden also squeezed in a quick lesson in Cardi B—specifically, “Bodak Yellow.” The closing number? “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
Streisand’s playful ribbing of Corden makes for a particularly fun entry into the ever-expanding library of “Carpool Karaoke.” In addition to her faux reluctance to listen to music, Streisand also critiqued his performance at one point, correcting him on a lyric in “The Way We Were.” And Corden responded in kind, teasing Streisand over that one time she called Tim Cook to ask him to correct how Siri pronounces her name. Streisand admitted that she also once called Steve Jobs when she couldn’t figure something out on her computer.
But perhaps the most amusing moment was when Streisand, still behind the wheel, admitted that she had failed the written test to renew her driver’s license three separate times. (“I was so nervous!”) Corden, newly aware of the risk he had taken getting in the car with his guest, quickly accepted his fate. “If this is how I go out,” he said, “I’ll take it. It’s a good way to go out.”

Kim Kardashian Says Kanye West Is ‘Harassing’ Her to Have More Kids: ‘He Wants Like 7’
Kanye West had babies on the brain on Sunday’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
While touring her new condo-turned-office with pal Larsa Pippen, Kim Kardashian admits that her rapper husband wants to keep expanding their family.
“How did you get so lucky with all your kids?” asks Pippen, 44. “They’re all so good.”
“Kanye wants to have more, though. He’s been harassing me,” says Kardashian, 38. “He wants like seven. He’s like stuck on seven.”
She and West, 41, share daughters Chicago, 8 months, and North, 5, and son Saint, 2.
“Okay, he needs to name his next album Seven and like lighten up on the kids situation,” Pippen cracks. “Seven kids is crazy!”
“That’s crazy. I could never, especially in like the world we live in,” says Kardashian, admitting that the onslaught of recent school shootings made her wary of bringing more lives into the world.
The slayings of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in February 2018 stuck a particular chord with the mother of three.
“I’ve been kind of hesitant about having more kids just because it literally keeps me up at night, thinking about how my kids will survive in a crazy world like this,” she says.
“I hear you. And people have been trying to kidnap, rob, take you, so that plays into all that,” Pippen says, referencing her friend’s harrowing experience being robbed at gunpoint in Paris in October 2016.
Later in the episode, Kardashian and West take North to the March to Save Lives in Washington, D.C., where the reality star feels inspired by the young activists who tell her the only way to really change America is to vote for politicians who support gun violence prevention in the midterm elections.
“I one billion percent believe that we need stricter gun laws,” Kardashian says. “We need background checks, you shouldn’t be able to walk into a store and buy a gun. And to hear that the kids have met with people numerous times and nothing’s been done is just so sad.”

Beyoncé urged to pull Ivy Park line from Topshop amid Philip Green allegations
‘Her brand is all about empowering women and marginalised communities’
Beyoncé is being pressured to withdraw from a commercial partnership with Sir Philip Green after the retail tycoon was accused of sexual harassment, bullying and racial abuse.
The singer’s sportswear line, Ivy Park, is sold at Topshop, one of the chains owned by the Arcadia Group, of which Green is chairman.
Now, activists are calling on the performer to axe the successful collaboration in response to the allegations against the 66-year-old businessman.
Speaking to The Independent, broadcaster Jasmine Dotiwala explains why Beyoncé’s brand is at odds with Green’s alleged misconduct, which he strongly denies.
“Her brand is all about empowering women and marginalised communities, particularly speaking up for black community issues. Thus, the two don’t sit well.
“Brands should consider very carefully the reputation of those they get in bed with.”
Yasmeen Hassan, of campaign group Equality Now, agrees, telling The Sunday Times: “Beyoncé has put herself forward as a women’s rights activist. She and her team need to look closely at these allegations.”
Nimco Ali, co-founder of Daughters of Eve, which campaigns to end female genital mutilation, added: “Beyoncé should say ‘I don’t want to work with Philip Green’.”
According to The Daily Telegraph, who were initially unable to name Green after he had been granted an injunction, five former employees have accused the Topshop owner of “bullying, intimidation and sexual harassment”.
He was identified on Friday in parliament by Lord Peter Hain, who used parliamentary privilege to make the claim.
Green is currently at a spa resort in Tucson, Arizona and told the Mail on Sunday that he had a good relationship with his employees, insisting that he had engaged in nothing more than “banter” with his staff.
“If anything I’ve said has caused offence, I’m happy to apologise,” he added.
“Nothing I’ve said was ever meant to be offensive.”
The Independent has contacted Topshop for comment.

Charlamagne Tha God Says He Canceled Kanye Interview Because Kanye’s Off His Meds
Last week, radio host Charlamagne Tha God and Kanye West were meant to have a live interview for a TimesTalk on mental illness. That interview, however, was abruptly canceled just two days prior with Charlamagne saying it was his decision to scrap the interview because “to have that conversation with him right now would not be productive.” Charlamagne has now elaborated that point to Stephen Colbert, saying he doesn’t think it’s right for anyone to discuss mental health with Kanye when Kanye is no longer taking his medication for bipolar disorder, which Kanye said he was when they previously spoke on the subject earlier this year. “I think he needs to figure that out,” Charlamagne says. The decision to ax the interview came two days after Kanye met with Trump claiming to be misdiagnosed; Charlamagne then called Kanye’s people to inform them the interview was no longer happening and says they were “relieved,” but also made him break the news to Kanye himself. According to Charlamagne, Kanye’s trip to Uganda wasn’t the reason for the cancellation.

Tamar Braxton Finally Gives Fans a Peek at Her ‘Fine’ Nigerian Boyfriend
Tamar Braxton has been doing a pretty good job of keeping her Nigerian boyfriend out of the spotlight but a recent video has given fans their closest look at him yet.
Braxton and her man, whose name is said to be Yemi according to the singer’s Tamar Chronicles fan page, went to one of the stops of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s On the Run II Tour in September. As Bey sang “Young Forever/Halo,” Braxton swiveled her phone camera around to capture her and reportedly her new man rocking sunglasses and embracing as she caressed his face.
“I mean, he’s the real-life T’Chella,” Braxton told St. Louis, Mo.’s 95.5 The Lou recently, comparing him to fictional Wakanda native T’Challa of “Black Panther.” “He’s originally from Nigeria but he’s been here [in America] … he lives in California … He is fine.”
Braxton has recently been opening up more about her man, including when she visited “The Wendy Williams Show” last month. There, she echoed talk of how attractive her boo is.
“Thank you, God, he’s so fine! I can’t take it sometimes. It’s like a whole snack — a Lunchable!” she exclaimed.
Once fans saw the video, which was uploaded to Braxton’s page on Thursday, Oct. 18 before it was pulled down, they wholeheartedly agreed.
“? I just started to declare, I don’t date American Men no more, not at all. I’m trying be smiling like Tamar. Ijs, let me see your birth certificate and passport book, okkk. I’m not playing…?”
“Get yo ass a Wakanda ladies!!! You won’t regret it ?”

Janelle Monáe on the meaning of “Dirty Computer” and what she promised her grandmother
For her latest project, singer, actress and activist Janelle Monáe is encouraging millennials to vote. She calls it a tribute to her grandmother, who didn’t always have that right growing up in the segregated South. Monáe is on a mission to make sure everyone with a voice has the ability to use it.
“It’s really about just making sure that our generation is activated that we’re fired up, ready to go, and we’re ready to vote,” Monáe told “CBS This Morning: Saturday” co-host Anthony Mason. “My grandmother was a sharecropper in Aberdeen, Mississippi, and she didn’t have the opportunity to vote…I just made a promise to her that when I became 18 and I had the right to exercise my power, I would do that in her honor and even though I could be in another city doing a concert, I will fly back to make sure that I vote.”
She’s got another mission, too. Her latest album “Dirty Computer,” a reference to people’s imperfections, challenges social norms and traditional concepts of a woman’s role in the world.
“One of the things that was most important to me…was to make sure I was coming from a very honest place,” Monáe said. “You know, it’s an album to really celebrate those that I felt needed to be celebrated most. Those in marginalized communities.”
Despite her massive success as both an actress and a singer, Monáe still feels marginalized herself.
“As an artist, I’ve had lots of opportunities to travel and go see the world,” she said. “But when I take off my makeup, when I take off my outfit, you know I’m still Janelle Monáe Robinson who grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, to working class parents….So being a young, black, queer woman in America, at any moment, I could have my rights taken away from me.”
The expression “Dirty Computer” is a nod to the attributes society sees as negatives. Monae finds flaws, those things that make something “dirty,” inspiring.
“Well, dirty computers are inspiring to me….People say that these dirty computers, these humans have these bugs and these viruses, the things that make them unique are looked at as negatives. But dirty computers look at their bugs and their viruses as attributes, as features, as added value to this country, to this society….it’s just saying that I’m a dirty computer, but I too am American,” Monáe said.
In 2016, Monae earned acclaim as an actress in Oscar favorites “Hidden Figures” and “Moonlight” but her true passion is music, which she first realized when she moved from Kansas to New York City to study musical theater.
“I studied for about a good year, year and a half. And then I realized that I wanted to tell my story. I wanted to sing my own songs. I had so much bubbling in here that I didn’t feel like I was able to get out,” Monáe said.
And through her songs she does share her deeply personal story. She said the response to that has been “overwhelming in the best possible way.”
“I have a fear of ‘is this gonna connect? Is this gonna resonate?’ I know that it means something to me. And to show up and go city to city, country to country and see people singing the words, sometimes louder than me, like, it’s so hard to describe that feeling,” she said. “Because it’s been a dream to have your work resonate with people’s hearts and their souls in the way that it is.”
Music critics are predicting “Dirty Computer” will be nominated for album of the year at the Grammys. As for her acting career, Monae just landed a supporting role in an upcoming biopic about Harriet Tubman.
