Elfen’s Neo-Soul Hip Hop Album pick of the week Hi-Hat Club Vol 2 Suff Draft (LP/CD/DIGI)
Have I got an album or series of albums for you! We’ve got the Hi- Hat Club. Who is the Hi- Hat Club? These are 9 fly beat makers that can mix together some smooth sounding samples and some amazing 16 bar flow that makes you wanna turn it up! Each member of the Hi- Hat Club has a role to play each of them have their own style and flavor. Today I was gonna give you Hi-Hat Club vol 1 of their collection but while listening to vol 2 while writing about vol 1 I was like lemme give you a review of vol 2 suff draft. This is a bangin’ album!
Suff Daddy is my first member of the Hi-Hat Club. Who is Suff Daddy?
Suff Daddy grew up in Düsseldorf (the city of Kraftwerk), listening to the 90ies hip-hop-collection of his older brother. His favourite group back than were Tha Alkaholiks. He caught the beatbug after he moved to Berlin five years ago, inspired by Quasimoto and Jaylib. Suff Daddy started working with MySpace postergirl Kissey Asplund back in 2005, who is also featured on his Beat 45 “Kill Bill”. Locally he is hanging out with fellow Berliners Jim Dunloop and Flomega. “Suff” means “drinking heavy” in German and his favourite drinks are Pilsetten and Tanqueray.
Sampling is an art form without a doubt. Suff knows his stuff. Each song has a jazzy, Neo-Soul, hip hop vibe to it. He takes us on a hip hop journey that you wish would never end. Here’s some of the tracks I play on repeat are….

Okay ya’ll as I was writing my review for Bandcamp Weekly. And I found a gem of a song. That makes you put the record on. And TRUN UP DA BASE. This head bobbin’ gem is from DJ Spinna. DJ Spinna 1996 Beat Tape is the DOPIEST hip hop album I’ve ever heard from him. Every song is bumpin’ with dance at the club energy. I love all the tracks but I’d have to say Murky is my most favorite track. The sound of jungle bells and the beat makes me wanna turn up da base and stomp my feet and get up and dance.
You can find Dj Spinna on iTunes, Soundcloud and Bandcamp.

Elfen’s Neo-Soul Hip-hop pick of the week BANDCAMP WEEKLY
This week instead of giving you an album of the week I’m going to give you a review of Bandcamp weekly with your host Andrew Jervis. Each week Andrew music choice is beautifully selected. Each week you’ll see a very unique illustration of the featured artist of the week. Bandcamp is a worldwide digital online music and artist promotion platform that sells over 25,000 digital records everyday. Bandcamp’s websites interface is well designed with point, click, play and purchase simplicity.
Mr. Jervis gives us music of his choice just like a DJ AKA Disk Jockey AKA Radio Personality should be able to do. give his audience music that he likes and hopes you’ll like it too. Listening to Bandcamp Weekly is a melting pot of musical culture. We get to hear artists from basically all over the world. All these artists don’t sound the same, These musicians and singers are influenced by and give us Ol’Skool and New Skool Funk, R&B, Jazz, Neo-Soul hip hop/rap, underground hip hop instrumental hip hip, trap conscious hip hop, boom-bap, beat-tape, hardcore, grime alternative, Blues, rock, gospel electronic…..
Bandcamp Weekly gives you whatever music you want and when you want to listen to it. Every time I tune in I hear something different every week. Bandcamp Weekly is my favorite online radio station and store looking at their music collection is mind blowing. Mainstream radio has declined in it’s variety of music and the power of choice has been taken away from the Radio Personalities. As for myself I abandoned mainstream radio since 1998 because I need more flavor and ear poppin’ music to stimulate my life!
Go checkout Bandcamp and all the many differently delicious genres of music. Bandcamp Weekly is every Tuesday. I’m telling you, you won’t be disappointed.

Elfen’s Neo-Soul Hip-Hop Album Pick of the week! 12/10/16
Now have I got a REAL HIP HOP album for you! I found out about this scrolling through my FB feed. We got Pete Rock and Smoke DZA collaboration AKA Callabo I always have liked Pete Rocks swagger and his smooth hip hop flow and his funky sexy beats. Then there’s DZA with his hardcore with da quickness flow in your face bars. What’s the name of the album? The album is called Don’t Smoke Rock each slamming song takes you on a journey through their hood of New York. Fo’ real this album makes you feel you’re standing front and center Harlem or the Bronx every song has depth the lyrics are crisp, clean and balanced. Born Pete Rock from da Bronx has been around spittin’ bars and producing beats with Marley Marl, as a DJ on New York’s WBLS radio show “In Control With Marley Marl.” The 17-year-old Phillips was recognized by the listening audience as the man “puttin’ in work”, as he would use double copies of each record to cut up every song he played, when most New York DJs would only use double copies on every third or fourth song. Propelled by the growth of his popularity, he began producing in the early 1990s. In 1991 he joined with CL Smooth to release the EP All Souled Out. Since 1987.
Next we got DZA AKA SMOKE DZA Harlem was born February 8, 1984 at Harlem Hospital in New York City and has lived in New York all his life. The son of two Guyanese immigrants, Smoke was exposed to music at home by his father and fell in love with hip hop at a young age. He grew up listening to and emulating fellow New Yorkers Jay-Z and Notorious BIG. After dropping out of high school to pursue his music career, DZA began battle rapping and has battled fellow Harlem-based rapper J.R. Writer.
Smoke DZA decided on his moniker after being influenced by Chris Tucker’s character Smokey from the movie Friday and the acronym DZA stands for “Dream Zone Achieve”. He was discovered by Jonny Shipes of Cinematic Music Group in 2002 and went on to ghostwrite for numerous rappers, including Hi-Tek. In 2002, he partnered to become one half of the group Smoke & Numbers, until going solo. DZA was highly influenced by Jay Z and Biggie Smalls. With 5 albums and mixtapes under his belt he gonna be spittin’ much more bars in the near future.
Pete Rock is plaining a reunite with C.L Smooth for the return of the all souled out tour and make some dope rhymes again after 22 years CAN’T WAIT!!!
Now #pressplay and let Pete Rock and DZA take you through their neck of their hoods!
