Anthony Anderson under investigation for allegedly assaulting a woman
I’m hoping this is NOT true. I’m going to keep up with this case. I’m sorry but SOME people are using this #metoo movement as an excuse to file lawsuits and false claims of rape. There are real victims out here being raped and molested. Sexual assault cannot be taken lightly .
Black-ish star Anthony Anderson is under criminal investigation by the LAPD for allegedly assaulting a woman who catered an event that the actor put on. Anderson is denying the allegation.
The Blast reported that sources familiar with the situation claimed that the woman met with Anderson for a second time after she’d catered the event to discuss future opportunities to work together. That is when the woman claimed the assault happened. The women later filed a police report with the Hollywood Division of the LAPD.
In a statement to People, a representative for Anderson refuted the claims saying, “It’s unfortunate that anyone can file a police report whether it is true or false. The authorities have not contacted Anthony or any of his representatives about this matter. Anthony unequivocally disputes the claim.”
Reports claim that the woman delayed coming forward when it happened, but felt comfortable doing so months later, mostly thanks to the Me Too movement. This movement, helmed by friend of The Root, Tarana Burke gives women the space and support to come forward with their claims of sexual assault within the industry and beyond.
This isn’t the first time Anderson has faced assault accusations. It’s been reported that Anderson and an assistant director for Hustle & Flow were accused of raping an extra on the set of the film, but charges against them were later dropped.

The fight over She-Ra’s Netflix redesign explained
Some men are mad she isn’t sexier. HELL I’m mad that DreamWorks and Netflix put money on a remake that didn’t need to be! She They’re ruining my whole 1980s black girl childhood now! She-ra was the shit back in the day and they just ruined it by making a remake! WHY?? This Child like anime style for this particular remake is whack! As far as I’m concerned why even make a remake? Create something new and innovative like Steven Universe. Now I will say I do like the reboot of Voltron.
At this point in the history of humanity, it’s too naive to believe there are still things in the world that largely don’t upset people. Highly anticipated sequels from beloved film franchises, even when they’re praised in critical reviews, spur toxic reactions from the deepest pockets of the internet. Something as simple as a red coffee cup might start a new chapter in the so-called war on Christmas. Sushi can suddenly become political if the person who served the spicy tuna roll doesn’t agree with its recipient’s political views.
The latest subject of such outrage is She-Ra, the princess of power, twin sister to He-Man, and fixture of 1980s Saturday morning cartoons. And what’s the reason for this newfound and previously undiscovered pot of anger? In short, She-Ra is being reinvented and rebooted for a younger audience — and in the process, a certain contingent of fans have grown very angry that she is now, in their eyes, less sexy than she used to be.
It’s yet another example of a vocal fandom seething with seemingly irrational demands and the latest chapter in an ongoing debate about how female superheroes look.
https://twitter.com/Gingerhazing/status/1018926076389556224?s=20
For those old enough to recall the She-Ra cartoons of yore (or anyone who can cobble together a simple Google image search), the changes to She-Ra’s costume and appearance are noticeable. She looks much younger, and her costume is a little more battle-ready, more befitting of a space cadet than a lipstick glamazon with indomitable cleavage.
The changes make sense. Netflix’s She-Ra series is ostensibly aimed at children, and the characters look like they’ve been rebooted to be younger and reflect the show’s primary audience. But that hasn’t stopped a certain sect of fans from declaring that She-Ra is no longer appealing, no longer sexy, and perhaps no longer an object of their sexual attention.
DAMNIT I want sex comic book animation. I want a fantasy story like She-Ra to have a sexual attention . *EYEROLL* Okay let me go to Netflix and look at the original She-RA because I am not investing my time watching a reboot that’s going to be whack anyway. Now if they remade it in a creative comic book drawing way then I might look at it. Oh and the writing has to be on point. But it seems like Hollywood is running out of stealing ideas from other screenwriters so all they can come up with is reboots.
It should be noted that if you don’t agree with the remake. And you want to boycott then Don’t , Repost on ANY social media platform. Don’t watch it. To get something cancelled and not renewed for a second third fourth season don’t watch it don’t tune in . you tuning in to watch gives your hated show more revenue. If you don’t tune in no money no sponsors no show .
The new She-Ra looks like Tom Holland. 🤔 #SheRa pic.twitter.com/DTN4phQJHN
— Liam (@TribalSpaceman) July 14, 2018
While I am not prepared to defend bouts of “She-Ra doesn’t give me boners anymore” extremism, I can see the kernels of the argument that sexuality shouldn’t be in diametric opposition to capability. There’s no reason female characters can’t be glamorous and sexy and also battle-ready, smart, and compassionate. It’s not unlike the ongoing debate about Wonder Woman’s appearance and whether her revealing uniform ultimately undermines her feminism. I’d argue that the most important thing about women superheroes in skimpy clothes is agency — what matters is that their costumes aren’t designed primarily for the sake of someone else’s erotic thrill.
But the outrage over the new She-Ra doesn’t really seem to be concerned with that debate. It lives and dies by the idea that the new She-Ra isn’t beautiful, that She-Ra is supposed to be beautiful and sexy, and that someone has destroyed a previously beautiful, sexy woman. Some people also seem to believe that She-Ra’s reimagination is spiteful:

Joker’ Origin Movie Lands Fall 2019 Release Date
This better be good! However if Joaquin got advise from Jack Nickleson. I know Jack Nickleson has warned Joaquin NOT to let the character of the joker send him off the deep end. RIP Keith Ledger.
Joaquin Phoenix is starring as the iconic villain in the Warner Bros. and DC film, which has gotten its official title — ‘Joker.’
Director Todd Phillips’ stand-alone Joker movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix, is set to hit theaters Oct. 4, 2019, Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow said late Wednesday afternoon.
The release date, and title, were revealed just as this year’s edition of the ultimate fanboy gathering — Comic-Con — got underway in San Diego. Warners and DC will take the stage there on Saturday.
October 2019 boasts a slew of high-profile titles. Joker will open opposite Paramount’s Gemini Man and Fox’s The Woman in the Window, followed a week later by Disney’s Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and fellow Warners title The Goldfinch. And on Nov. 1, DC and Warners will unfurl Wonder Woman 1984.
Last month, Phoenix finalized his deal to star as the arch-nemesis of Batman. The studio describes Phillips’ film as being an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.” Phillips and Scott Silver co-wrote the script.
Joker’s budget is in the $55 million range, significantly lower than the tentpoles that dominate the form. And the movie, set to begin production later this year, is meant to be darker and more experimental in tone and content (at least as experimental as a studio can be with established brands such as DC), which is described as being akin to a crime drama.
Emma Tillinger Koskoff will produce Joker, with Richard Baratta executive producing.
Phoenix is currently in theaters in Gus Van Sant’s Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.

‘Black Panther’ Is $99K Away From One Last Box Office Milestone
Black people showed up and showed out!
Although it lost half of its screens this weekend and now plays in just 28 theaters, Marvel and Walt Disney’s Black Panther is slowly Spectre-ing its way to $700 million domestic. The Chadwick Boseman action drama earned around $15k last weekend to bring its domestic total to $699.901m. So, it is $99,007 away from the once-fabled $700m mark. If it sticks around long enough (and presumably gets a glorified reissue for a week or two in semi-wide release), it’ll be just the latest big movie to be dragged kicking and screaming in protest across an arbitrary box office milestone.
Spectre spent two months (61 days) hovering between $199 million to $200m. The Sony/EON/MGM 007 flick was already a solid hit, earning $881m worldwide alongside The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part II and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But be it luck or happenstance, theaters kept the 007 movie around (perhaps as an adult-skewing counterpoint to the kid-targeted Star Wars and Hunger Games sequels) for long enough to hit the $200m milestone. Sometimes it’s a matter of saving face, as the underperforming Superman Returns spent 36 days between $198m and $200m domestic before ending with just $200.7m total (and $391m worldwide on a $270m budget).
In 2013, Paramount/Viacom Inc. brought Brad Pitt’s World War Z back into theaters over the Labor Day weekend, going from 239 screens to 1,242 screens. And, sure enough, the troubled but successful zombie thriller earned $1.65 million over the four-day weekend to get over the hunch. Again, the horror drama was already a hit, having countered behind-the-scenes horror stories with a $551m global cume on a $190m budget, but Paramount wanted the sexy number for bonuses and/or post-theatrical bragging rights.
Disney put A Wrinkle in Time back into 1,984 screens over Mother’s Day weekend and then expanded just a tough back into 245 screens in mid-June (the opening weekend of Incredibles 2). Allegations of magical math notwithstanding, they got the flick over the $100m domestic mark. The Storm Reid/Oprah Winfrey fantasy didn’t magically turn into a profitable flick ($133m worldwide on a $103m budget), but it did allow for the possibility that every single 2018 Walt Disney release could end up above the $100m domestic mark (if Christopher Robin falls short, Pooh gets punched), which would be a major bragging point.
This isn’t a new thing, not by a longshot. Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc. put Tim Burton’s Batman into 690 theaters in its 14th weekend to get it over the $250 million milestone. To be fair, it doesn’t always do the trick, as Disney’s Gnomeo and Juliet never did get to the $100m mark, having to settle for $99.967m. At that point, you’d think someone would just buy out a handful of theaters for a weekend. The Disney toon (not technically from Walt Disney, Pixar or DisneyToon) was already a big hit without the bragging rights. Ditto (to the 7th power) Black Panther.

Weinstein Co. Saga Comes to an End as $289 Million Sale to Lantern Closes
Weinstein was a name the general public barely knew, but drove Hollywood – that is until last fall. The NY Times wrote an expose on Weinstein last fall detailing his sexual crimes against actresses, models and other women in the entertainment industry.
With its $289 million sale to Lantern Capital Partners having closed today, the Weinstein Co. saga comes to an end. Co-founded by brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein in 2005 with plans to become a major multimedia company, TWC — despite back-to-back best picture Oscar wins for The King’s Speech and The Artist as well as several Emmy trophies for shows like Project Runway— never lived up to all its grand ambitions. And, having struggled financially in recent years, it was forced into bankruptcy in the wake of the dozens of allegations surrounding Harvey Weinstein, who has since been charged with six counts of sexual assault and rape in Manhattan.
Even before he was enveloped by scandal, Harvey Weinstein’s golden touch when it came to courting Oscar had begun to lose its luster. Between their days at Miramax and TWC, the Weinsteins have claimed 341 Oscar nominations and 81 Academy Award wins. When the nominations for the 88th Oscars were announced in 2016, TWC collect 10 nominations for Carol and The Hateful Eight, but no best picture or director noms. And while the list of 2017 nominations saw Lion score six nominations, including best picture, the company’s other awards hopeful The Founder was shut out.
Now, it will be up to Lantern and the leadership it appoints to pick up the pieces. During the course of the bankruptcy proceedings, a deal was struck to move Project Runway from Lifetime back to Bravo, where it originally aired. And there are a number of unreleased films that have been stuck in limbo — period drama The Current War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch; biblical tale Mary Magdalene, starring Rooney Mara; and the odd-couple comedy The Upside, starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston — that could be sold off to other distributors.
