Cincinnati woman burns down house trying to kill bedbugs
A woman set her Cincinnati home on fire when she used rubbing alcohol to get rid of her bedbug problem.
The late Friday fire sent three people to the hospital with non-threatening injuries and left another 10 homeless, local Fox affiliate WXIX reported.
The blaze broke out on the first floor, where the alcohol was ignited by either burning incense or a candle, local fire chief Randy Freel told the news channel.
First responders at about midnight found flames gushing out of the first floor.
Fire officials noted it was the second time in as many weeks a fire broke out in Cincinnati by someone trying to kill bedbugs.
The late evening blaze caused $250,000 in damage to the five-unit structure, WXIX reported. The American Red Cross is trying to find new homes for the seven adults and three children.
“It’s like a dream….everything is burnt,” said resident Kamaron Lyshe, who rushed home after someone told him about the fire. “I’ll start fresh. It’s all we can do now.”Freel told the channel Cincinnati residents shouldn’t combat the biting pests on their own.
“Get a professional,” he said.
Less than two weeks ago, an apartment building went ablaze in The Queen City for the same reason.
A 13-year-old boy’s mattress went ablaze when he tried to eradicate a bedbug by setting it on fire.
The flames soon engulfed nearly the entire building, displacing eight people who lived there.
Bullied boy called ‘ugly’ has Snoop Dogg, Dale Earnhardt Jr and other celebrities rallying behind him
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee woman’s video of her tearful son recounting being bullied at middle school has prompted a wave of support from athletes and entertainers.
Kimberly Jones said in a Facebook post Friday she had just picked up her son, Keaton, from school because he was too afraid to go to lunch.
In the video, Keaton said other students call him ugly, make fun of his nose and tell him he has no friends. He said milk was poured on him and ham was put down his clothes.
“People that are different don’t need to be criticized about it. It’s not their fault. If you are made fun of, just don’t let it bother you.”
The video had more than 18 million views as of Sunday, and a crowdsourcing page for Keaton’s future education had raised more than $29,000.
“We all know how it feels to want to belong,” Jones said in her post, “but only a select few know how it really feels not to belong anywhere.”
On Twitter, Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker invited the Jones family to an upcoming game, while University of Tennessee wide receiver Tyler Byrd said he and several teammates plan to visit Keaton at school.
Country music star Kelsea Ballerini tweeted that the next time she comes home to her native Knoxville, she wants to be with Keaton to witness the bullies apologize.
Retired race car driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on Twitter he wants Keaton to “add me to your long list of friends,” and Snoop Dogg said on Instagram that Keaton “has a friend for life” and that “love is the only way to beat hate.”

Bar worker hides camera phone in ceiling vent to watch ‘attractive women’ in restroom
A dishwasher at a Queens bar hid his cell phone in the ladies room to spy on customers — but was foiled by one of the bar’s regulars who spotted it in a ceiling vent, cops and prosecutors said.
Hector-Miguel Ramirez-Vargas, a 31-year-old worker at Holy Guacamole on 31st St. at 36th Ave. in Long Island City, admitted he set up his cell phone camera in the loo when “attractive women” came in, court documents allege.
Cops caught up with Ramirez-Vargas this week, more than three months after he disappeared from the bar after a woman found his phone in a ceiling vent, prosecutors said.
Franco Solano, 34, the manager at Holy Guacamole, said one of the bar’s regulars went to the women’s restroom on Aug. 31, saw the camera phone, and asked, “Hey guys, why do you keep that camera in the bathroom?”
One of her friends grabbed the phone and went through the images in the camera, recognizing Ramirez-Vargas from his own photos stored on the phone.
Solano called the police, but Ramirez-Vargas made a run for it through a back patio.
“Since that night he never showed up,” he said. “We were telling the employees, if you see him just call the police.”
“They’re regular customers. Since that night happened, they never came back and I understand,” Solano lamented. “It’s not us. It’s this guy who made a big mistake.”
Cops caught up with Ramirez-Vargas on Wednesday, charging him with unlawful surveillance.
He told detectives he worked as a deliveryman and dishwasher, according to a criminal complaint.
“When I would see attractive women in the restaurant I would put my cell phone in the women’s bathroom to record them using the bathroom for my own personal pleasure,” he told cops, according to the complaint.
He remains held on $1,500 bond or $3,000 cash bail.
10-year-old gets multi-organ transplant after waiting for 8 years
CLEVELAND – A 10-year-old boy is a living miracle after waiting eight years for a multi-organ transplant.
“I just thought about it at night; I laid in bed thinking about him being in there all by himself,” Annie Lykins remembers the nights before she decided to take legal custody of Victorious Nera.
Victorious, also known as Vic, is a fighter. He was born with Short Gut Syndrome, which almost killed him as a baby and requires him to get all his nutrients from an IV, according to WJW.
Vic was in foster care until he was about two years old. Then he was adopted and loved by his mom for years while he had to have dozens of surgeries. But the medicine that Vic needed to live was also destroying his liver and pancreas. Vic got on the organ transplant list.
During that time, Lykins was one of his home health nurses and, tragically, Vic’s mom took her own life. He was sent to a facility for medical care.
So Lykins, the nurse, stepped in and took legal custody of Vic in March of 2017. She brought him into her family, with her own three children.
“It was crazy the way everything kind of fell into place; it was a domino effect. He fit perfectly with our family; it was like he was always there,” she said. In November, the family got the news that there was an organ donor for Vic.
Dr. Kareem Abu-Elmagd at the Cleveland Clinic has treated Vic for years. “These patients is like our baby because we are taking care of them day and night and we see them often so we establish a bond and relationship,” he said.
There are only about 100 transplants like Vic’s done every year in the United States. Dr. Abu-Elmagd does about a third of them in Cleveland. Vic’s surgery giving him a new liver, pancreas and small intestine lasted 16 hours and was a success.
“Everybody was excited in the operating room when we had the organs in. They fit in his abdominal cavity and the whole team was so excited that we were able to help Vic with the new organs,” he said.
Vic is recovering well and will eventually be able to start eating foods like a regular kid.
“I expect Vic to be one of those who one day could be the president of the United States,” Dr. Abu-Elmagd said.
But right now Vic is more focused on spending time with his new family and hopefully being home for Christmas.
If you would like to keep up with Vic’s story you can follow him on Facebook, or you can help his family with medical costs on his GoFundMe page.

Phoenix dad is accused of putting methamphetamine into a coffee cup as he watched two children drink it
PHOENIX, Ariz. — A Phoenix dad is accused of putting methamphetamine into a coffee cup as he watched two children drink it.
Phoenix police report that on Thursday morning, they arrested 33-year-old Edgar Flores Avila on child abuse charges.
They say on November 30, Avila placed meth into a coffee cup and watched as his 2-year-old son and 5-year-old step-daughter drank from the cup.
The boy immediately turned white and started convulsing. He and the girl were taken to a hospital, and both tested positive for meth.
Police say the girl reportedly told them she drank the coffee with a straw saying, “it was sour and nasty.”
She also told police that she saw the boy drink it too. She said he turned white and started, “moving, moving, moving.”
Avila also tested positive for meth and allegedly admitted to putting .5 grams of meth into the cup after smoking the rest.

Mother left naked toddler in bathroom during dollar store robbery
Ohio police arrested a mother on Tuesday after she allegedly tried to rob a dollar store while her 1-year-old daughter was left unattended in the bathroom, reports said.
According to Fox 8, Mary Waguespack was at a Dollar General in Alliance when she allegedly attempted to make off with nearly $100 worth of store merchandise while her daughter was alone. She tried to flee the scene through the fire exit but tripped an alarm, Cleveland 19 News reported.
The little girl eventually escaped from the bathroom and was running around the store naked during her mother’s alleged heist, according to a police report obtained by the outlet. The girl was eventually “corralled” by Waguespack, 36, Cleveland 19 News said.
Officers reportedly apprehended Waguespack and charged her with petty theft and endangering a child. The endangerment charge was raised to a fourth degree felony due to a previous child endangerment conviction in 2012, Fox 8 reported.
The little girl was reportedly picked up by Waguespack’s husband, whom she was divorcing, while the mother was brought to jail, the outlet said. Child services were notified of the incident, Fox 8 reported.
Man says he had sex with dead girlfriend in effort to wake her up
A Connecticut man is behind bars after he had sex with his dead girlfriend — in the hope it would wake her up, according to reports.
Aaron Graser, 39, was sentenced to a year in prison for fourth-degree sexual assault of a corpse on Tuesday, the Hartford Courant reported.
Cops found Graser’s girlfriend dead in their apartment and surrounded by needles back in January, the paper reported.
Graser told police that he found her unresponsive with heroin and drug paraphernalia in her lap — and decided sex would be the best way to rouse her because she didn’t like sleeping with him.
“Aaron stated he listened to see if the victim was breathing and he heard gurgling. Aaron stated he knew the victim hated having sex with him so he figured that the victim might wake up if he had sex with her,” a warrant for Graser’s arrest read.
He also admitted tying her ankles and wrists to the bedposts because it was one of his kinks.
When the attempted coital revival failed, he put her pants on and called his neighbor, who used to be a paramedic. The neighbor later told police he believed the woman had been dead for hours.
An autopsy later determined the paramedic was correct — the ligatures caused by the bedpost ties didn’t have bruises, which means no blood was flowing at the time, a medical examiner testified at the trial.
The ME also testified that the gurgling Graser heard could have been decomposition gases escaping the woman’s body.
A toxicology report determined the woman had high levels of fentanyl, heroin and another synthetic drug in her body and she died from a drug overdose.
Graser originally was charged with second-degree assault, but agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge.
He was spared from being placed on the sex offender registry — the judge determined it wasn’t necessary for public safety “based upon the facts” of the case.

Woman held down 2-year-old toddler while cousin recorded himself sexually abusing child
CINCINNATI, Ohio — A sex offender and his cousin in Ohio are facing federal charges after being accused of making child pornography with a 2-year-old toddler with plans to sell the video, federal authorities said Thursday.
Cousins Ciera Richter, 25, and Jason Fletcher, 40, were both arrested.
According to WXIX, Fletcher’s probation officer found child porn on his phone back in May. A further search of the phone revealed an entire collection of child pornography and videos, some of which included Fletcher with a 2-year-old child.
The videos show the woman, Richter, helping to hold, entertain and position the toddler while Fletcher is being recorded sexually abusing the child.
According to the indictment, Fletcher intended to sell the videos.
“The indictment alleges that Richter provided the toddler to Fletcher with the knowledge that as a consequence of the transfer, the two-year-old would be portrayed in child pornography,” said U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman.
Fletcher, already a registered sex offender, was previously convicted by the state of Ohio of importuning a minor, among other crimes. Under the terms of his probation, he was not to possess any pornography.
Fletcher and Richter were each indicted on one count of conspiracy to produce child pornography and production of child pornography, according to a release from the U.S. District Attorney’s Office.
According to officials, Fletcher faces a potential range of 35 years to life in prison, due to his prior state convictions for crimes involving children, federal officials said.
Richter is also charged with one count of selling a child, and could receive up to 30 years to life in prison.

Bronx baby overdoses on her dad’s heroin while sleeping in his bed
FORDHAM HEIGHTS, the Bronx — A Bronx girl overdosed on heroin allegedly belonging to her dad while sleeping in his bed, prosecutors said.
The 1-year-old girl and her brother, 2, were in their dad’s bed when he was allegedly using heroin early Saturday, according to court documents. Some heroin spilled onto the bed and the baby girl ingested it.
“I was using heroin in the bed before my kids laid down,” Edgardo Rodriguez, 20, told police, court records show. “My kids were there. Some of it spilled onto the bed. It made a mess. I went to sleep. I don’t know how my daughter got in contact with the residue on the bed because I was high.”
The children’s grandmother and father noticed she was having trouble breathing around 8 a.m. and rushed the girl to the hospital, officials said. She was unresponsive by the time they arrived at St. Barnabas Hospital.
She was administered three doses of naloxone and placed on a Narcan drip. Doctors later transported her to Montefiore Medical Center where she remains in intensive care.
A white powdery substance was found on the comforter of the bed inside the Bronx apartment, according to court documents. Rodriguez also had a clear plastic bag filled with a white, powdery substance in his pants pocket. He told police it was heroin.
Rodriguez was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.
A second baby also overdosed in the Bronx over the weekend. Her parents found a plastic bag in her mouth. No charges have been filed in that case.
Two doctors fired after ‘dead’ newborn starts breathing on way to cremation
NEW DELHI – An Indian hospital has fired two doctors fired for mistakenly declaring a newborn baby boy dead.
The baby was born at the Max Super Speciality Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, last Thursday but pronounced dead two hours later, the boy’s grandfather, Praveen Malik, told CNN. His mother had given birth to twins but the boy’s sister was declared stillborn.
The parents were on their way to a cremation ground when they noticed “some movements” inside one of the polythene bags that the hospital gave them with the babies’ bodies.
“When we opened the bag, we found the boy breathing. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Malik said.
The hospital previously said in a statement that the boy was “handed over without any sign of life” by the hospital staff.
The boy is still in a critical condition in hospital, according Dr. Sandeep Gupta, from the Delhi New Born Centre where the baby is now receiving treatment.
“He is on ventilator support, nutrition support and other supports. We are managing to maintain his vitals at the moment but the condition is very serious,” Gupta said.
Max Healthcare said in a statement released late Sunday evening that the decision to let the two doctors go should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt.
“We wish to clarify that this action should not presuppose finding of any lapse by the expert group and should not be construed in any way to be anything other than an expression of our continued commitment to providing quality healthcare,” the statement from Max Healthcare said.
An investigation by an external group of experts is expected to be concluded Monday.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted saying authorities would take the “strongest action” if someone is found at fault.
“We want the Delhi government to take strict action against the hospital authorities for their negligence,” the boy’s grandfather said.
