Model walks the runway while breastfeeding
A model taking part in a Sports Illustrated swimwear fashion show stole the spotlight with one of the most unusual runway walks ever. Mara Martin strutted during Miami Swim Week while breastfeeding her 5-month-old daughter, reports People.
In a video clip, you can hear the audience cheering when they realize what’s happening. (The baby is wearing protective ear muffs.)
“I can’t believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day,” wrote Martin on Instagram after the weekend show.
“But to be honest, the real reason I can’t believe it is a headline is because it shouldn’t be a headline! My story of being a mother and feeding her while walking is just that,” wrote Martin, who was one of 16 models chosen to take part in the show at W South Beach hotel from an open casting call.
Sports Illustrated swimsuit editor MJ Day says it was a spur-of-the-moment decision.
“When I was talking with the girls backstage prior to the show beginning, I saw that Mara’s baby was sleeping and peacefully nursing,” she tells Sports Illustrated. “I asked Mara if she would want to walk and continue to nurse. She said ‘Oh my gosh, yes!’”

Crying baby boy dies while in ‘time out,’ NJ parents charged with murder
NEW JERSEY — Parents, upset their 4-month-old son was crying, covered him with a comforter and went out for a smoke, only coming back inside after their baby had stopped breathing, prosecutors said Tuesday.
William Herring, 42 and Brianna Brochhausen, 22, were living at the Hilltop Motel in Springfield Township when they allegedly killed their son, Hunter, on Valentine’s Day. They decided Hunter needed a “time out” because he would not stop crying.
They put him on his stomach on a bed, pulled the comforter completely over him and left to smoke, investigators said. Hunter wasn’t breathing when they came back.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but he had minimal brain activity. Hunter breathed with the assistance of a respirator for several weeks and died on March 3 after life support was removed.
Herring and Brochhausen were initially charged with endangering the welfare of a child, but the prosecutors upgraded the charges against them. They’re now facing murder charges in connection with their son’s death.
“The thoughtless actions of these individuals ended up costing a defenseless 4-month-old infant his life,” said Colonel Patrick Callahan, the New Jersey State Police Superintendent.
Houseguest accused of biting off part of woman’s nose, swallowing it
CONROE, Texas – A Texas woman is accused of biting off a large chunk of another woman’s nose and swallowing it, according to KIAH.
“I’m 28 years old. I don’t have a nose anymore,” said the victim, identified as “Tatiana,” who spoke with KTRK.
Cops say Jessica Collins, 41, tagged along with Tatiana and her neighbor to a bar Wednesday, but when they got back to the house, Collins demanded alcohol and cigarettes. Tatiana hadn’t met Collins – who was temporarily staying with her neighbor – before that night, according to KTRK.
When Tatiana didn’t give her what she wanted and asked her to leave, Collins allegedly tackled Tatiana, bit off a piece of her nose, and swallowed it.
“I didn’t have time to react, to push her away. I think I was trying to fight back, but I couldn’t. All I could remember was the taste of the blood in my mouth,” Tatiana recalled.
“I’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen other parts bit off. I mean, it does happen,” Constable Mark Herman from the Harris County Constable’s Office said. “This case here is probably the first we’ve had in probably four or five years, but it does happen.”
Tatiana, who says she doesn’t have health insurance, needs major surgery and only has a couple weeks to get it done. Doctors say the surgery gets more complicated if the wound starts to heal.
Her friends have started a GoFundMe to raise money for the surgery (Warning: link contains graphic images).
Collins was charged with misdemeanor assault-bodily injury and was released from jail Monday after
posting bond.

CVS apologizes after manager calls cops on black customer
CHICAGO — CVS Health is apologizing after a black customer says a white store manager in Chicago accused her of trying to use a phony coupon.
Camilla Hudson posted cellphone video of manager Morry Matson calling police Friday night. Matson, who apparently plans to run for City Council and was a state delegate for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, appears very nervous and his left hand shakes as he talks to police.
Hudson says on Facebook that Matson challenged her when she tried to use a manufacturer’s coupon for a free product. While Matson was talking to police on the phone, Hudson said she would wait for officers to come to the store. No action was taken by police.
“Of course, I had ZERO concerns about the police being called. Apparently, they’d hung up on him the first time he called, so he had to call them back a second time, telling the 911 dispatcher that I was harassing them (which I have on video). Three tactical unit officers arrived and, after some conversation and documenting their names, badge numbers, etc., I eventually left the store,” Hudson posted to Facebook. “Needless to say, this is far from over. Life in these United States. Aargh.”
CVS told the Chicago Sun-Times that it apologized to Hudson. The company says it doesn’t tolerate discrimination against customers and that it is investigating the matter.

Mom accused of killing her infant through drugs in breast milk
A Philadelphia-area woman who described herself as a drug addict is being held on a homicide charge after she allegedly transmitted drugs to her 11-week-old baby through her breast milk, officials said.
Samantha Jones, 30, of New Britain Township, was charged Friday with criminal homicide in the April 2 death of the infant, named R.J. in court papers.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s office said the autopsy showed the baby died after being fed breast milk containing methadone, amphetamine and methamphetamine, Fox 29 Philadelphia reported.
According to the affidavit, Jones told police she had been prescribed methadone because of an addiction to painkillers, that she had taken it during her pregnancy and that she was taking it at the time of the baby’s death, the station added.
Police found the baby in cardiac arrest after responding to a 911 call. Jones’ mother called the cops and reportedly tried CPR.
The affidavit stated that Jones said she primarily had been breastfeeding the baby, but had switched to formula three days earlier, saying the infant wasn’t getting enough milk from breastfeeding, the station reported.
Jones said that on the morning the child died, the baby was crying at 3 a.m. and she tried to breastfeed him because she was too tired to go downstairs and prepare a bottle of formula, Fox 29 added citing investigators.
She also said, according to the station, that she fed the infant formula at 6 a.m., fell asleep and then woke up to find her son pale, with bloody mucus coming from his nose.
Jones was held in lieu of $3 million cash bail.
Her 2-year-old son is in the custody of his father, the station reported.
The D.A.’s office said in a news release that Jones’ defense attorney argued for minimal bail saying R.J.’s death was not intentional.

PayPal tells dead woman she is ‘in breach of contract’ because she died
“You are in breach of condition 15.4(c) of your agreement with PayPal Credit as we have received notice that you are deceased.”
That’s the very real message a British man received three weeks after informing PayPal of his wife’s May 31 death from cancer at age 37.
“What empathy-lacking machine sent this?” Howard Durdle, 40, first wrote on Facebook, sharing the letter threatening legal action over Lindsay Durdle’s $4,200 debt, which her widower says her estate couldn’t cover, per Inc.
“As soon as our teams became aware of this mistake, we contacted Mr. Durdle directly to offer our support, cleared the outstanding debt and closed down his wife’s account,” PayPal tells the New York Times, adding it has “made changes to ensure that an insensitive error of this nature never happens again.”
Durdle, too, says his goal is to prevent future instances like this—”it can be hugely damaging for people who are trying to recover”—and he thinks speaking out is the best way to accomplish that.
“While PayPal’s mistake is getting lots of press, the truth is companies send out similar letters all the time,” Inc. notes.
Speaking to the Times, the president of consumer rights advocacy group Public Citizen blames companies’ increasing reliance on software and algorithms to communicate with customers. Per the BBC, Durdle was told a software glitch, bad letter template, or human error was likely to blame in his case, but that the exact cause would remain an internal secret.
“I just hope more orgs can apply empathy and common sense to avoid hurting the recently bereaved,” he wrote in a Tuesday tweet, per CBS News.

Teen babysitters accused of tormenting baby with Taser (News clip with actual video)
Three teen babysitters are accused of tormenting a baby girl in their care with a Taser in videos posted to Snapchat, according to reports.
Police in Conway, Arkansas, said the teen girls were arrested for child endangerment Monday in connection to the horrifying footage, news station KXXV reported.
In one clip, one of the babysitters reportedly pretended to prod the 1-year-old girl with a Taser as the child screamed.
Another video showed a teen slapping the baby in the back of the head. “She’s a bully but I’m dying,” the clip was captioned.
The baby’s mother, Elyssia Watkins, said she’s disturbed by the footage of her young daughter.
“I couldn’t even stay at work today,” Watkins said. “I just keep thinking about it. Why do they think it’s a laughing matter?”
The babysitters — whose ages range from 15 to 17 years old — appeared Tuesday in Faulkner County Court on child endangerment charges.
“They do need to go to jail, but I hope someone really talks to them and they get some counseling,” Watkins told KXXV.

Father had toddler’s body for months before dumping it in suitcase in NJ
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Prosecutors say a man charged with dumping his dead toddler’s body near train tracks had had the body for months.
They made the assertion Wednesday at a bail hearing for Travis Plummer.
The Richmond, Virginia man was arrested in Puerto Rico in April, a week after the girl’s body was found in a suitcase.
Authorities say Plummer took 23-month-old Te’Myah Layauna Plummer from her mother in Virginia last fall and traveled to New Jersey with the decomposing body wrapped inside a suitcase.
They believe he left the suitcase in a friend’s garage in Jersey City, and dumped it near the tracks after police came to the friend’s house in March.
Plummer has pleaded not guilty to improper disposal of human remains. A judge denied his request for bail Wednesday.
Michael Jackson Was ‘Chemically Castrated’ by Late Father Joe, Claims Dr. Conrad Murray
Following the death of Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson‘s controversial doctor Conrad Murray has made explosive claims about the father-son relationship, according to a new report.
Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and served two years in prison for administering an overdose of propofol to the late King of Pop in June 2009, called 89-year-old Joe “one of the worst fathers to his children in history” in a video obtained by The Blast.
“The cruelty expressed by Michael that he experienced at the hand of his father…” Murray, 65, alleged, trailing off before adding, “The fact that he was chemically castrated to maintain his high-pitched voice is beyond words.”
Murray, as well as reps for the Jackson family, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
This is not the first time Murray has made allegations about Michael being “chemically castrated.”
The former cardiologist previously shared similar claims in his 2016 book, This Is It! The Secret Lives of Dr. Conrad Murray and Michael Jackson, accusing Joe of forcing Michael to get hormone injections at age 12 to cure his acne and prevent his voice from changing.
“I hope Joe Jackson finds redemption in hell,” Murray said in The Blast video, days after Joe died of pancreatic cancer on June 27.
“We want to thank you all for the support you have shown us as we grieve for the patriarch of our family. We mourn the loss of our father and celebrate the life of a man who sacrificed so much to give us the life and success we have today. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this time,” the Jackson family said in a statement.
In October 2013, Murray was released from jail two years into a four-year sentence after he was convicted in 2011. His license to practice medicine was also suspended in three states.
Years before his death, Michael was candid about the troubles he faced with Joe in both the 2003 Martin Bashir documentary, Living with Michael Jackson and again in an emotional conversation with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach — which was published in the 2009 book, The Michael Jackson Tapes: A Tragic Icon Reveals His Soul in Intimate Conversation.
Asked by Bashir how often Michael was hit by Joe, Michael said, “Too much.”
“It was more than just a belt — cords, whatever was around,” Michael remembered, detailing the “strong hate” he had towards his father during the beatings. “[He’d] throw you up against the wall as hard as you could. He would lose his temper. … I was so fast, he couldn’t catch me half the time. But when he would catch me? It was bad. It was really bad.”
Michael also told Boteach about how Joe “was very physical” throughout his childhood. “He would throw you and hit you as hard as he can,” the star said. “It’s like, ‘Oh my God, why? Where is the love? Where is the fatherhood?’”
Michael’s children Prince Michael and Paris painted a different portrait of the patriarch upon his death, instead sharing memories of a loving and involved grandparent.
“This man is and always will be an example or sheer willpower and dedication. He didn’t choose the path that was the easiest but he chose the path that was best for his family,” Prince Michael, 21, captioned a family photo.
Sister Paris, 20, added, “I will cherish every moment with you til the day i die, especially our last moments … quoting advice you gave me when i was a little kid and seeing your eyes light up, sharing stories my dad used to tell me about you, telling a joke and hearing you laugh for the last time.. my heart is full knowing we left each other in that way.”
Burglar Calls Police for Help After Breaking Into Escape Room in Washington State, Getting Trapped
Generally, you’re supposed to break out of an escape room, not into one.
But in Vancouver, Washington, a man had to call the police for help after he broke into NW Escape Experience — and couldn’t get out.
“Once we got down there [to the business] and realized the damage was minimal, we just thought it was hilarious,” owner Rob Bertrand told CNN Tuesday.
Escape rooms have gained popularity in recent years. Groups work together under a time limit, finding clues and solving puzzles, to get out of rooms.
The burglar inadvertently tried his hand at the team-building craze on Sunday morning.
“When he got in he just kind of made himself at home,” Bertrand said. “He actually stole one beer from the refrigerator. The police say he also had a burrito.”
“We assume he was going to have a nice warm breakfast,” he added.
In addition to the beer, the man also allegedly stole a cell phone and a TV remote.
The man then tried to get out the back door, Bertrand said, but he had damaged it so badly trying to get in, he couldn’t open it.
So he called 911, using the phone at the front desk. Eventually, he did manage to get out the back door, only to run into a police officer who promptly arrested him, Bertrand said.
The suspect faces a charge of 2nd-degree burglary, according to CNN affiliate KOIN. CNN has reached out to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
The man was inside the business for at least 35 minutes. That beats many people who attempt NW Escape Experience’s escape rooms — visitors usually spend an average of 50 to 58 minutes trying to get out. The record is about 33 minutes. However, Bertrand says the suspect’s time won’t count.
“He did call 911. That’s not a win. He quit,” Bertrand said.
Bertrand is excited about the business’ new claim to fame.
“We’re going to start claiming that we’re the only escape room in the nation that has 100 percent capture rate for criminals,” he said.
