Hospital Security Guard Allegedly Had Sex with Dead Woman’s Body
A hospital security guard in Tennessee was arrested Wednesday after two people allegedly saw him having sex with a dead woman’s body, PEOPLE confirms.
Memphis police officers responded to a call at St. Francis Hospital where witnesses told officers they allegedly observed the guard “having sexual intercourse with a deceased female in the body storage room,” according to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
Cameron Wright, 23, was charged with one felony count of abuse of a corpse, according to online records. His bond was set at $3,000.
According to the affidavit, Wright allegedly gave police a written statement admitting to the crime.
His sister, who asked to remain anonymous, questioned his mental state in an interview with local news station WREG.
“I think he’s still a good person. He just needs help,” she told the station in an interview. “I mean, ’cause anybody that does something like that, there’s got to be something wrong with them.”
She told the station that Wright wanted to be a police officer, but being a security guard was “the closest thing he could get at the moment,” she said.
Wright allegedly worked for U.S. Security Associates. In a statement to the local news station, the company stated Wright was “thoroughly screened” before being hired.
“We thoroughly screened the background of the officer involved in the incident,” the company wrote. “There was no criminal history in the officer’s background and no one could have anticipated the criminal conduct in which the officer engaged.”
The company terminated his employment immediately after he was charged, according to the statement.
Wright requested a public defender, but it was unclear whether he has obtained one. He is expected to make an appearance in front of a judge on Aug. 28.
Father stabs 16-month-old son to death, yells ‘Jesus is coming’
DALLAS — A father was charged with capital murder Tuesday after police said he stabbed his 16-month-old son at a Dallas-area apartment complex.
Blair Ness, 27, is charged in the death of his toddler son, Ashton Ness. Authorities said the father was shot in the leg by a neighbor trying to stop the attack on Sunday.
Lewisville police Capt. Mike Lane said Ness had significant injuries to his hand from the knife, along with the shooting wound.
Police also said witnesses reported that Ness yelled “Jesus is coming” before the attack.
There’s no clear motive behind the slaying. Authorities said Tuesday that detectives were interviewing the suspect. Bond was set at $1.5 million.
According to a police affidavit, the attack is believed to have begun inside Ness’ apartment, which was filled with a smoky haze and smelled of newly burnt marijuana. Police found a large blood stain on the master bedroom carpet, with a blood-stained folding knife and skull fragments lying by the bedroom door.
Officers found a trail of blood leading outside to where neighbors witnessed the attack, and several kitchen knives were found in the grass next to a pool of blood, the affidavit stated.
Ness was found on a patio and was subdued with a shock gun when he refused police commands.
As he was being handcuffed, Ness said: “I know everyone’s mad. I’m mad. I killed my son,” according to the affidavit.
Ness’ girlfriend and the child’s mother, Alexandra Murphy, arrived shortly after police. She said that when she left for work earlier Sunday, Ness was feeding their son.
She said she could think of no reason why Ness would want to hurt their son, according to the affidavit. Ness had been reading the Bible extensively recently, she said, and they had been attending church services.
A GoFundMe has been created to raise funds for Ashton Ness’ mother with expenses.
Mom arrested after forcing child to walk to sheriff for ‘misbehaving’
A Florida mom faces charges for allegedly forcing her 9-year-old daughter to walk to the sheriff’s office for “misbehaving.”

Authorities said a Good Samaritan picked up the bruised child and contacted law enforcement.
The woman reportedly drove the girl home where Williams allegedly told the child, “I’m gonna f–k you up.”
Deputies arrested the mom after she admitted to striking her daughter to discipline her.
The young girl appeared to have several large bruises on her body, according to authorities.
Williams was booked at Indian River County Jail, where she was released Saturday on $20,0000 bail.

Anthony Williams, of El Paso, remained in custody Tuesday for allegedly causing life-threatening injuries to his 1-year-old daughter, according to the El Paso Police Department.
Police said they responded to a family violence call at Williams’ home Friday morning and found the baby unresponsive. The little girl was then brought to University Medical Center for treatment.
The 27-year-old reportedly told police that he “struck” the baby multiple times “because she kept falling while he was ‘teaching’ her to walk.”

American Man Arrested for Allegedly Urinating on Sleeping Fellow Passenger During Flight to Japan
A man traveling from Chicago to Tokyo was arrested for allegedly urinating on another passenger, the Japan Times reports.
According to the local news outlet, Denish Kishorchandra Parekh, a 24-year-old engineer, was traveling from Chicago O’Hare airport to the Narita Airport on an All Nippon Airways flight when he allegedly relieved himself on a 50-year-old businessman who was asleep in the business class section. The crew on board the All Nippon Airways flight restrained Parekh and reported the alleged assault to Japanese police, the Japan Times reports. The outlet adds that the Chiba Prefectural Police said the two men did not appear to know each other, and did not have an argument before the alleged incident.

When he was arrested upon landing, the suspect denied the allegation and said he had no recollection of the occurrence.
All Nippon Airways did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Teen killed, soon after posting he was glad to make it to 17
ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis teenager posted online that he was glad to make it to his 17th birthday after all he’d been through. Just over an hour later, he was fatally shot in the head.
Armond Latimore was shot outside a restaurant about 1 p.m. Saturday — his birthday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. No arrests have been made. Homicide detectives are investigating.
His mother, Chandra Payne, said she had gone to a store when she got the news.
“He told me that he wanted ice cream,” Payne said. “I went to Save A Lot and three minutes later I received the call.”
Latimore’s post to Facebook earlier Saturday celebrated just getting to his birthday. It read: “Thru all the (expletive) I den been thru I’m just glad I can say I made it to see 17.”
Latimore was a sophomore at Vashon High School. After the shooting, Payne said she found a paper her son wrote for school about a bully who wouldn’t stop harassing him. She said Latimore never told her or other relatives about any problem he was having with anyone.
Payne said that since the shooting, concerned people have pointed out to her photos on Latimore’s Facebook page where he is seen with a lot of cash and posing with a gun. She said her son didn’t own a gun, and that the money belonged to someone else.
She said her son was a good kid.
“He was always a helping-hand child,” she said. “He would cut grass, wash your car or sell water. He loved music and loved money and always made it the right way.”
Harvey Collins, 60, saw Latimore two hours before his death when the teen helped move Collins’ daughter into her dorm at Harris-Stowe State University.
“I can’t believe that a couple hours later he was dead,” Collins said. “That’s a crying shame.”

Florida Stepfather, Pastor Accused of Sexually Assaulting Teen for a Year Threatened Voodoo to Keep Her Quiet
Two men, including a pastor, were recently arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl over the course of a year in Lauderhill, Florida, and then threatening her with voodoo rituals if she told anyone.
Avo Roker, 32, and Ricardo Strachan, 40, face various charges in the case, the Miami Herald reported.
Authorities said Roker introduced the victim, his stepdaughter, to Strachan at church and they both allegedly had sex with her multiple times for about a year.
Strachan used to preach at the Prophetic Worshippers International Church and allegedly had sex with her more than 36 times between January and December of 2016.
Authorities arrested Strachan last Wednesday, while Roker was taken into custody Saturday, according to Broward County inmate records.
Strachan is being held on a $100,000 bond on a charge of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor between the ages of 12 and 16 years old, jail records showed.
Roker, who has been jailed without bond, faces charges of sexual assault by a person with custodial authority on a victim over the age of 12 and under 18, according to inmate records.
He’s accused of having sex with her more than 65 times from December 2015 to December 2016, the Miami Herald reported.
Strachan is also accused of having the victim steal clothes that would be used in voodoo rituals if she told anyone about the crimes.
Man claims he killed pregnant wife after she strangled their kids
The Colorado man accused of murdering his entire family told police that his pregnant wife is actually the one who killed their two young daughters — and he simply strangled her after finding out.
Christopher Watts, 33, said he “went into a rage” and took his wife Shanann’s life after finding their oldest daughter “sprawled” out on her bed “and blue,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Watching from a baby monitor, Watts told police that he saw Shanann “actively strangling” their other daughter, Celeste, just moments before setting upon her. He claimed that the children, ages 3 and 4, were both dead already by the time he got to his wife.
“[Watts] said he loaded all three bodies onto the back seat of his work truck and took them to an oil work site,” the affidavit states. “[Watts] said he buried Shanann near two oil tanks and dumped the girls inside the oils tanks.”
The North Carolina native — who was living in Frederick, Colorado — was arrested last week and formally charged on Monday with three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of murdering a child, one count of unlawful termination of a pregnancy and three counts of tampering with a deceased body. He remains held without bail.
According to the affidavit, Watts had been looking to leave his wife and was discussing it with her.
A two-day investigation revealed he was “actively involved in an affair with a co-worker” — and wanting to file for a separation. Watts told cops that he informed Shanann about his plans right before she strangled their two kids. However, he denied having the affair.
Watts, at first, claimed during police interviews that he and his wife discussed the possibility of getting a separation, and everything was fine.
“[Watts] stated it was a civil conversation and they were not arguing but were emotional,” the affidavit says.
He wound up changing his story, however, on the second interview after being allowed to speak with his father.
“[Watts] stated after he told Shanann he wanted a separation he walked downstairs for a moment and then returned to his bedroom to speak with Shanann again,” the affidavit says. “While in the bedroom, via baby monitor located on Shanann’s night stand, he observed Bella ‘sprawled’ out on her bed and blue and Shanann actively strangling Celeste.”
Watts later identified the three locations where he hid the bodies and was placed under arrest on Wednesday night. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

NY lawmaker wants to criminalize racially biased 911 calls
A black New York state senator who says a woman called 911 on him for campaigning has introduced a bill to punish people for making racially motivated police reports.
Earlier this month, state Sen. Jesse Hamilton was campaigning in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, when a woman who Hamilton said didn’t agree with his criticism of President Donald Trump called 911 when Hamilton refused to leave the public street corner. “I said ‘I’m not leaving.’ She said, ‘I’m going to call the police.’ I thought she was joking,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton hopes to pass legislation making these types of reports a crime in New York. “My civil rights were violated and other peoples’ civil rights are being violated. We have to make sure people understand you can’t call the police on someone who isn’t doing anything wrong,” he said.
Over the past few months, numerous people of color have been victims of 911 calls while going about their everyday lives. Someone called 911 on a student at Smith College while she was eating lunch, a state representative in Oregon while she was canvassing and a girl selling water on a sidewalk.
The proposed bill would require the local district attorney to investigate these incidents as hate crimes. If a report is determined to be racially motivated, the district attorney would then recommend one of a number of consequences, including fines, sensitivity training or jail time.
Sensitivity training has been used by private corporations after similar incidents, such as when Starbucks closed its stores nationwide in May after an employee called the police on two men waiting for a friend.
Hamilton said he doesn’t want to deter people from calling 911. “It’s already a crime to make a false report, we just want to enhance it to send a message that you can’t just look at someone going about their ordinary life and call 911,” he said.
Hamilton said demographics in the areas he represents are changing rapidly. New York University’s Furman Center released a report earlier this month that shows that Crown Heights’ black population decreased from 79% to 66.3% between 2000 and 2016. In the same time the white population more than doubled — from 8.6% to 19.8% — and the median rent jumped from $980 per month to $1,320.
Kristen Clarke, president of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and former head of the Civil Rights Bureau for the New York Attorney General’s Office, said she applauds the senator for what she called a feasible proposal. “I think these calls are intended to marginalize people of color and drive them out of communities. Strong laws and meaningful action on the part of lawmakers can help to curb this conduct,” Clarke said. She added that, if it passes, the bill could inspire other states to take similar measures.
The New York State Legislature is not in session, but Hamilton’s bill is in committee awaiting a spot on the legislative calendar.

Woman says surgeon removed kidney by mistake in botched operation
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Dena Knapp went to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., to have an adrenal gland and associated mass removed.
Instead, according to a lawsuit, Dr. Scott Baker removed her healthy right kidney, USA Today reports. The suit claims that Baker was told by the hospital pathology department after the Oct. 5, 2016, surgery that he removed the kidney and not the glands.
However, two days later he told Knapp that he hadn’t heard from pathology, the suit alleges. Knapp says that Baker called her on Oct. 11 and said that she would need a second surgery because “he did not get everything.”
Instead of returning to Baker, though, Knapp had the gland and mass removed by a Mayo Clinic surgeon.
According to the suit, Knapp now suffers from incurable, progressive kidney disease in her remaining kidney, as well as pain, fatigue and, depression. Knapp says the whole thing has resulted in expenses of more than $96,000 and lost income of $42,000 and counting, KTIV reports.
Also, according to the suit, Knapp “has been unable to perform many functions and has required replacement services to clean and maintain her home, the past and future cost of which is yet to be determined.
