Dad charged in death of infant son allegedly left boy in bath to play video games
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An Alabama father has been charged in the death of his infant son after he allegedly left the boy in a bathtub while playing video games Sunday night.
Cordarius Cotton, 23, has been charged with reckless manslaughter after Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office officials say he left 5-month-old Dezmend Cotton alone for more than an hour, according to The Birmingham News.
A 911 dispatcher gave CPR instructions over the phone to someone at the home, according to the paper. Paramedics took over upon arriving at the scene, but they weren’t able to resuscitate Dezmend. The boy was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Children’s of Alabama.
“I can’t imagine how hard this is going to be on that child’s family,” Jefferson County Chief Deputy Randy Christian said in a press release, according to WIAT. “This will be heart wrenching for all involved. God be with them.”
Two other children who live at the home are now reportedly in the care of a grandmother.
Cotton is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
Former CNBC director gets probation for spying on teenage nanny in bathroom
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A former CNBC television director has been sentenced to five years’ probation for spying on his family’s nanny with a hidden camera in his suburban New York home.
Daniel Switzen of Pleasantville pleaded guilty in May to unlawful surveillance.
He was sentenced on Tuesday.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said that Switzen will have to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors say Switzen placed a secret camera inside a tissue box in a bathroom to record the teenage nanny and her friends on video.
The nanny discovered the camera.
School bus driver fired for letting kids take the wheel
A school bus driver in Indiana was fired after a shocking video emerged showing her let students get behind the wheel, according to reports.
Joandrea McAtee, 27, faces charges for allowing kids as young as 11 years old drive the bus as they dropped off students Thursday from a Porter Township school, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The Porter County Sheriff’s Department said at least three students got a turn driving short distances in Lake Eliza.
“Welcome to Boone grove where we let 6th graders drive a bus with children on it,” a student posted to Twitter, along with a video of the alleged incident.
Authorities launched an investigation Thursday after a parent reported the bus driver to the school resource officer.
“The students and parents that immediately came forward with this information should be commended for doing exactly what we teach, which is see something, say something,” Sheriff David Reynolds said in a statement.
McAtee was arrested Friday when she visited the school bus barn to pick up her final paycheck. She was booked at Porter County Jail on charges for neglect of a dependent.

Woman arrested after police chase in stolen ambulance with patient inside
An Oregon woman charged with stealing an ambulance last Sunday while paramedics performed CPR on an unconscious woman had one question after her arrest, according to a report.
“Why did they leave it unlocked?,” asked suspect Christy Lynn Woods, 37, of Roseburg, according to an affidavit reviewed by the Oregonian.
According to court documents, Woods drove the ambulance through downtown Roseburg, then proceeded north on Interstate 5, leading police on a chase for nearly 30 miles — reaching a speed of 85 mph, the newspaper reported.
At one point, Woods struck a police vehicle that was traveling ahead of her in order to divert traffic, the report said.
The impact totaled the police vehicle and left Oregon State Police Sgt. Ken Terry with some minor injuries, the News-Review of Roseburg reported.
Later, Woods drove the ambulance over a strip of spikes set up by police near Rice Valley, and eventually exited the ambulance at a gas station, where she was arrested, the newspaper reported.
It was Woods’ eighth arrest this year, the report said.
Woods was booked on 13 charges, including assault, interfering with paramedics, criminal mischief and reckless driving, the Oregonian reported.
According to Portland’s KOIN-TV, it was Woods’ 39th arrest in Douglas County since 2013.
In February, she was convicted of second-degree disorderly conduct after allegedly trying to hit bar patrons with an alcohol bottle, yelling slurs and kicking a police officer, according to the News-Review.
The condition of the unconscious woman being assisted by the paramedics was unknown.
Tim Novotny, general manager of Bay Cities Ambulance, told the News-Review that the recovered ambulance was sent to a garage for a repair estimate.
In 2016, another Roseburg woman, Jolene Marie Barnes, was arrested for stealing an ambulance, the News-Review reported. She was later convicted on a first-degree aggravated theft charge and sentenced to 22 days in jail, the report said, then received another 60 days in jail for violating her probation.
South Carolina math teacher is accused of lowering a student’s grade because he stopped having sex with her
CHARLESTON, S.C. — A South Carolina math teacher is accused of lowering a student’s grade because he stopped having sex with her.
The young man and his mother are suing the Charleston County School District for negligence.
The Post and Courier reports that 27-year-old Jennifer Olajire-Aro allegedly “encouraged and coerced” her student, then 17, into having sex with her multiple times.
The civil lawsuit filed last week says the teacher would remind him that she controlled his grade if he tried to fend off her advances.
The lawsuit says he told his mother after the teacher lowered his grade from a 98 to 89 when he refused her in December. She was arrested that month. Her criminal case is pending.
A schools spokesman said the district hadn’t seen the lawsuit yet.

Driver finds baby boy crawling across busy NJ road; child unharmed
LAKEWOOD, N.J. — A motorist spotted an infant boy crawling across a busy street in New Jersey on Saturday, with the driver stopping in time to bring the child to safety.
Corey Cannon, 43, of Eatontown, got out of his car and secured the child on Joe Parker Road in Lakewood around 6 p.m., then he called 911, police said.
He photographed the stunning scene of the child on all fours, who had just crossed the yellow double line, and shared the image on Facebook.
When officers arrived, Cannon told police that while he was tending to the child, a neighbor came by to pick up the boy and return him home.
Officers found that the infant’s parents did not realize he was missing until the neighbor returned the baby to his home.
The parents believed an older sibling may have left a door open, enabling the baby to crawl outside, police said.
“It’s horrible, and it’s not the parents’ fault because babies do climb out of cribs,” Mary Bauer, a resident of Lakewood, told PIX11.
Authorities are investigating the incident with assistance from the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency.

Ex-Trump staffer accused of slipping abortion pill into girlfriend’s smoothie
A former Trump campaign spokesperson was accused of slipping an abortion pill into his pregnant girlfriend’s smoothie — sending her to the hospital and nearly causing her to go into a coma, according to court documents.
Jason Miller — who served on President Trump’s 2016 campaign and transition team — announced he was quitting his role as CNN political commentator Saturday to “focus on clearing [his] name” and fighting the accusations detailed in recent court documents.
The explosive court filings, first reported by Splinter News, allege that prior to Miller’s high-profile extramarital relationship with A.J. Delgado — another Trump campaign staffer — he had an affair with an unnamed woman he met at Rachel’s Gentleman’s Club, an Orlando strip club.
When the dancer found out she was pregnant, Miller allegedly dosed her drink with an abortion pill, without her knowledge, according to the court documents.
The pill caused the woman to wind up in the emergency room “bleeding heavily and nearly went into a coma,” the documents state. She was hospitalized for two days with “the abortion pill possibly reacting with potential street drugs in her system” at the time she drank the smoothie, according to the documents.
When the alleged relationship began in 2012 Miller was working for the prominent Republican ad firm Jamestown Associates.
The court documents were filed Sept. 14 in Miami-Dade Circuit Court as part of an ongoing custody battle between Miller and Delgado. With the allegations entered into court record, Delgado asked for Miller to undergo psychological evaluation, saying she fears for their son’s safety.
“I’m concerned for my safety (more importantly, my son’s) with Miller and afraid of his reaction if I add comment,” she said to Splinter News.
Delgado conceived a son during an affair that began when she and married Miller were both working on the 2016 campaign. At the time, Miller’s wife was also pregnant with their second daughter.
In December of that year, President-elect Trump announced that he would be appointing Miller as his communications director, but Miller backed out two days later, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
In a series of tweets Saturday, Miller decried the filing as false, calling it part of Delgado’s “continuous attempts to smear me.” He accused Delgado of having mental and emotional issues and promised to clear his name and hold Delgado and Splinter accountable.
Barbershop owner apologizes for hanging Kaepernick doll from noose
PLACERVILLE, Calif. – A California barbershop is taking heat after a photograph of a hanging doll portraying Colin Kaepernick was posted on social media.
“They got Colin Kaepernick hanging from a noose,” said Joseph.
The picture was shared by Joseph, who wanted to be referred to only by his first name. It was taken inside the Bowtie Barbershop in downtown Placerville and shows the former 49ers player hanging from the ceiling by a noose.
“I literally had no idea that I was offending people,” owner ‘Bow Tie’Barber told KTXL. “We have a hangman out here called George and so, you know, with the theme of Hangtown I hung him. And it was wrong, it was absolutely wrong.”
Barber is a well known public figure in the community and says the hanged doll has been in his barbershop since 2016 when Kaepernick and a teammate kneeled during the national anthem.
“I am a die hard 49ers fan and when that action happened there was a lot portrayed on the 49ers and I took it personally,” Barber told KTXL.
But even with an apology, some, like Joseph, say the damage is already done.
“Imagine how many kids already seen that doll,” he said.
Now, Barber says he has learned a valuable lesson and hopes his apology is accepted.
“I’m publicly announcing that I apologize. It was the wrong thing for me to do,” he told FOX40. “Absolutely will never happen again. I absolutely see the other side of it. I’m sorry.”
The doll has since been taken down.
Barber said he hopes to speak to Joseph in person to offer his apology face to face.

Shirtless dad, son arrested for gunning down neighbor in trash fight
A west Texas man was gunned down by his two shirtless neighbors – in a shocking confrontation recorded by the victim’s girlfriend, according to a broadcast report on Wednesday.
Aaron Howard, 37, was killed on Sept. 1 in Abilene, allegedly by father-and-son neighbors Johnnie and Michael Miller, authorities said.
They’ve both been arrested and charged with murder.
The deadly confrontation was caught on the cellphone of Howard’s fiancée, Kara Box, who shared the video with KTXS.
“People deserve to know what actually happened,” Box told the ABC affiliate.
The three men were arguing over a dumped mattress in an alley behind Howard’s house on Don Juan Street in Abilene, according to the video.
The dad, Johnnie Miller, 67, was holding a pistol while Michael Miller, 31, had a shotgun, KTXS reported.
“If you come closer to me, I’m gonna kill you,” the elder Miller reportedly could be heard yelling at Howard.
And amazingly, Howard didn’t back down.
“Hey, did you hear him say he’s going to kill me?” the victim told his filming fiancée.
Howard then barked at his two armed neighbors to leave the scene, according to the report.
“Put the gun up and go inside!” Howard yelled.
Box tried to intervene and told the father and son: “You’re not going to shoot my husband.”
The men kept arguing, and at least two pistol shots were fired by the dad, Box told the station.
Her video captured the sound of the pistol fire but not any images of Johnnie Miller shooting.
Box did capture Michael Miller opening fire with his shotgun.
Taylor County DA Jim Hicks said the video could be key evidence.
“Video evidence like this is always graphic and very difficult to watch,” Hicks said in an interview on the station. “But, it is consistent with the charges.”
The father and son have been charged with first-degree murder. Both are out on $25,000 bail, KTXS reported.

Man doing yard work while naked angers neighbors
STUART, Fla. — A community in Florida is growing frustrated with one neighbor who does his yard work completely naked.
“I came out Sunday night to put the trash out, and I look over and he is bent over, winding up his hose, and I’m like, ‘That is my view of the neighborhood,” said neighbor Melissa Ny. “He works on his car, and he does it naked, and everyone has called the police. He is just out there doing his yard work, whatever he needs to do outside — naked.”
According to WPBF, several people in the neighborhood have called the county sheriff’s office, but deputies said as long as the man is not touching himself inappropriately, there is nothing they can do about it.
“Have some respect for the neighborhood kids. Kids catch the bus here, it’s wrong,” said Charlie Estes, another neighbor. “I have seen these people actually stand on their front step, buck naked, both of them, and talk to a police officer, sheriff’s department. The sheriff’s department told me to turn my head.”
The man in question told a WPBF reporter he is not interested in doing an interview because he and his family are private people.
“If they are private, why are your privates on display. That is not private at all. That is very public,” Ny said.
Neighbors say the next step is talking to him to see if they can work out some kind of compromise.
