Daycare worker charged with killing 4-month-old girl who wouldn’t stop crying

News & Info

(Meredith) — A 19-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly suffocated a baby girl at a daycare center in Delaware.

Dejoynay Ferguson was charged Friday with first-degree murder in connection with the 4-month-old’s death, the Delaware State Police said in a statement.

On Thursday, troopers and medical personnel responded to a call about an unresponsive infant at the Little People Child Development Center in Bear.

Ferguson allegedly placed her hands over the girl’s mouth and nose to intentionally restrict her breathing when she wouldn’t stop crying, according to court documents obtained by The News Journal.

After the baby became unresponsive, police said Ferguson placed her back into a crib. About 20 minutes later, Ferguson told the owner of the daycare the baby was unresponsive.

Medics transported the infant to Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said Ferguson was the child’s assigned caregiver. She is currently being held on a $1,000,000 cash bail at the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.

As a result of the incident, the state has suspended the daycare’s license indefinitely.

Florida Man Throws Urine on Prosecutor in Courtroom, Yells ‘He Told Me to Do It!’

News & Info

Police say a 28-year-old man awaiting sentencing on an attempted murder charge tossed urine on the prosecutor inside a Florida courtroom.

The attack happened Wednesday in Broward Circuit Judge Susan Alspector’s courtroom. Albert Narvaez is now also charged with battery for his attack on Broward Assistant State Attorney Andrew Newman.

A Broward Sheriff’s arrest report says urine went inside Newman’s mouth and all over his clothing. The report didn’t say what kind of container Narvaez used to store the urine in the courtroom.

The Miami Herald reports Narvaez charged at Newman, flung the urine at him and yelled, “He told me to do it!” He didn’t say who he was referring to.

The sentencing hearing was postponed.

Chief Assistant State Attorney Jeff Marcus said they’re “absolutely incensed” by the incident.

73-year-old woman gives birth to twins, believed to be the oldest person to ever give birth

News & Info

ANDHRA PRADESH, India — A 73-year-old woman in India has given birth to twin girls.

Erramatti Mangayamma, a farmer from the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, is believed to be the oldest person ever to give birth.

She became pregnant through IVF and doctors delivered the babies via caesarian section Thursday.

“The surgery went well … the mother and the babies are all healthy with no complications,” Dr. Sanakayyala Umashankar, the director of Ahalya IVF, who performed the C-section, told CNN.

Mangayamma and her husband, 80-year-old E. Raja Rao, have been married since 1962 but had never been able to conceive naturally. They approached Umashankar in 2018 and, after preliminary tests were promising, the doctor agreed to give them one round of IVF treatment.

Given Mangayamma’s age, the doctors performed a C-section and will keep her under observation for the next 21 days.

“We are not allowing the mother to breastfeed and the babies will be fed through the milk bank,” Umashankar said.

Rao, 80, has already begun making plans for his daughter, said Umashankar. And for Mangayamma, it is a new lease of life at the age of 73,he said.

“She is very confident now. More confident than ever in her life and she is looking forward to the next chapter of her life with the kids,” Umashankar added.

Music

Meredith) – A 19-year-old man is accused of breaking into a Florida home, cooking himself a meal and telling the alarmed homeowner to “go back to sleep,” according to authorities.

The suspect, identified as Gavin Crim, entered the home in Safety Harbor through an unlocked rear door around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, WTVT reported. He then began cooking and eating food inside the house, which alarmed the person who lives there.

Michigan mom buys iPhone from online seller, ends up with 2 bars of soap and loses $450

News & Info

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Samantha Powell is a local mom who says she was just trying to buy her daughter an iPhone, when she ended up getting scammed.

A few weeks ago, Powell says she made a deal with a “seller” on the app ‘LetGo’. They communicated on the app and agreed on a price of $450.

Powell says she had saved money for 6 months in order to buy her daughter an iPhone before school started.

She agreed to meet the “seller” at an apartment complex in Allen Park. She had gone there with her husband, but when they exchanged the money and the iPhone box,

Powell says the “seller” took off running. Her husband opened the box and found no iPhone, just two bars of soap.

Powell told 7 Action News, “When he opened it, we were both dumbfounded. We were just staring at it: Did that just happen?”

She says they tried going after the “seller” but she was gone.

They called police and also filed a police report. Powell says she heard the “seller” even went on Facebook and bragged about what she had done.

“She was pretty much saying haha thinking that she wasn’t going to get caught,” she says.

But she may not be laughing now. Powell says the 18-year-old “seller” used a fake name on ‘LetGo’, but had provided her phone number for the sale. That’s how police were able to figure out who she is.

Powell says that “seller” is an 18 year-old woman. Police say she has been ticketed and if she doesn’t show up for court, a warrant will be issued for her arrest.

Meanwhile, Powell says she hopes her story will help remind others to meet up at a police department for such a transaction. She has since gotten her daughter an iPhone off Craigslist. She said she met the seller at a local police department and had no problem.

Argument Between West Virginia Pastors’ Wives Ends With Gunfire In Church Parking Lot

News & Info

A pastor’s wife in West Virginia has been charged with reckless endangerment after allegedly firing a gun in a church parking lot.

Melinda Frye Toney, 44, is accused of pulling out a pistol that accidentally discharged during an argument with another pastor’s wife at New Life Apostolic Church in Oak Hill on May 11.

Toney is the wife of New Life pastor Earl Toney while the other woman, Lori Haywood, is married to New Life’s youth pastor, David Haywood,

Fayette Sheriff’s Detective Kevin Willis told the Beckley Register-Herald the animosity between the two women had been simmering for some time. Their husbands had thought the women should publicly bury the hatchet to avoid additional strife.

“The pastor and the youth pastor had thought, ‘Maybe we could get them together, we can hash this out and fix this before it escalates,’ ” Willis said Wednesday. “Of course, it just made it worse, I think.”

According to Willis, “the straw that broke the camel’s back” was an argument over a t-shirt Haywood had was wearing.

Haywood would only say, “We had a disagreement, and when we sat down to talk, I called her out, and she lost it.”

According to authorities, Melinda walked out of the church during the disagreement and went to her car in the parking lot, where she got her handgun.

Realizing what she intended, Earl and followed her outside.

Willis reports Pastor Toney intercepted his wife before she was able to come back inside the church and attempted to wrestle the gun out of her hand. The weapon fired a single shot during the struggle, but nobody was hurt.

Haywood, who was leaving the church when the gun discharged, called the police and told them that she was Toney’s intended target. The department reviewed  parking-lot surveillance video but could not determine whether the pistol was aimed at Haywood before it was fired.

Mrs. Toney owned the handgun legally with a concealed carry permit.

“We were just trying to leave, peaceful,” Haywood told the Register-Herald. “The reason for the shooting was stupid, and very unnecessary.”

Melinda declined to speak to police after her arrest and requested an attorney instead, according to Willis, who added that a mental evaluation of her may be part of the investigation.

Florida Man Parks Smart Car in Kitchen so Hurricane Dorian Won’t Blow It Away

News & Info

It started as a light-hearted challenge between a Florida couple, can a Smart car fit into their kitchen? The answer: Yes it can.

Patrick Eldridge parked his smart car in his kitchen to protect it from Hurricane Dorian because he didn’t want it to “blow away” and to prove that he can park his car there.

Jessica Eldridge said her car was already parked in the garage. To avoid cleaning their garage out, her husband proposed to park it in the house.

“I said there was no way he could. He said he could,” Jessica said. “So he opened the double doors and had it in. I was amazed that it could fit. He had it in with no problems.”

Dorian was skirting Florida’s coast Wednesday, narrowly missing Jacksonville as it heads northward along the Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina coastlines.

The Category 2 storm has devastated the Bahamas, where rescue crews have only begun taking the full measure of the damage.

With the car in the middle of the kitchen, Jessica Eldridge had to move around it to cook and serve dinner.

“I’m hoping he will pull it out pretty soon once the wind dies down,” she said. “There is room and it’s not in the way but my dogs are confused by it.”

New Jersey man scammed $2.1 million in online dating scheme

News & Info

MILLVILLE, N.J. — A New Jersey man has been accused of duping people into sending money to people posing as U.S. military personnel in a $2.1 million online dating scheme.

NJ.com reports that 35-year-old Rubbin Sarpong of Millville is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud in an alleged scheme running since January 2016.

Federal prosecutors allege that Sarpong and co-conspirators, several of whom live in Ghana, set up phony profiles on online dating sites posing as U.S. military personnel. Prosecutors allege that they pretended to forge romantic relationships with the 30 identified victims, then sought money from them, often purportedly to ship gold bars to the United States.

Prosecutors said Sarpong was being represented by Assistant Federal Public Defender Lori Koch; a message was left for her Wednesday evening seeking comment.

Woman returns from funeral to find squatters living in her apartment, pawning her things

News & Info

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman left Memphis for a funeral in Africa, and while she was gone, she says a pair of squatters moved into her apartment and stole thousands of dollars worth of valuables, including family heirlooms.

One of those unwelcome visitors is behind bars and told police a bizarre story of how she came to live in someone else’s home, according to WREG.

Police said Shauna Arnold took up residence in the apartment in July with a man she called Travis.

The woman who actually rents the unit in the Harmony Woods apartment complex was out of the country for a funeral when Arnold and Travis allegedly moved in, stealing and pawning valuables like jewelry and electronics and vandalizing the apartment.

According to police, Arnold was seen leaving the apartment and questioned by a neighbor who knew the real resident was out of the country.

Some residents even said they had seen her in the area before.

“She be walking up and down this street, down National Street,” Linda Sherrod said. “I’ve seen her before.”

Authorities got involved after the victim’s sister came to check on the apartment and found a squatter inside.

Arnold reportedly told police that Travis said it was his apartment, and she could live there if she paid him $10 a day because the renter was in jail. She said she witnessed Travis stealing valuables from the apartment and selling them.

According to police, Arnold also had some of the victim’s property when she was arrested.

Police are still looking for the man called Travis.

For Sherrod, this burglary is nothing short of bizarre.

“It shouldn’t have happened, period,” she said. “People need to leave people’s stuff alone and work for themselves if they want it.”

When the victim returned to Memphis, she told police she didn’t know Shauna Arnold or anyone named Travis, and they didn’t have permission to be in her apartment.

Arnold remains in jail.
