A man was shot 16 times and walked into a hospital two miles away
(CNN) — Philadelphia police say it’s “miraculous” that a man shot 16 times was able to walk into the hospital two miles away.
Early Friday morning, the 27-year-old was wounded in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. Police say it’s unclear why he was shot so many times. They haven’t been able to interview him yet.
Investigators found large caliber shell casings at the scene.
Philadelphia Police Department spokesman Sgt. Eric Gripp told CNN the man was shot:
- five times on his right side;
- two times in his left hip;
- three times in his upper chest;
- once in his right shoulder;
- once in the right side of his neck;
- three times on his left forearm;
- and once on his right forearm.
Police are not identifying the man who somehow made it to Temple University Hospital and admitted himself.
“For him to be hit that many times throughout his body … even though he’s critical, he’s expected to survive,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said. “That’s pretty miraculous.”
Police told CNN that he was in critical but stable and was undergoing surgery.

Video shows officer shoot an unarmed 16-year-old as he runs away. Police say it was justified
(CNN) — Newly released video of a fatal police shooting in April 2017 shows an officer firing a deadly shot at an unarmed 16-year-old who had jumped over a fence and was running away.
Police in Fresno, California, say that three different official departments have ruled the shooting justified.
The surveillance camera footage, provided by attorney Stuart Chandler, shows 16-year-old Isiah Murrietta Golding climb a fence and enter a small yard as he is being chased by two officers.
Murrietta Golding, wearing a gray sweater, lands on his feet and starts to run. One officer climbs the fence while the other gets into a crouching stance and fires through the fence, the video shows. Murrietta Golding then stumbles and falls to the ground.
In the police body camera footage, also provided by the attorney, someone off camera can be heard saying “good shot.”
Murrietta Golding’s parents filed separate wrongful death lawsuits against the city of Fresno and several of its officers in March 2018. Chandler, who represents Murrietta Golding’s father, said the suits were filed separately because the couple are divorced.
The bullet went through the back of the teen’s head, according to the father’s lawsuit, and he died three days later. The lawsuit claims the officer who fired had no “objective facts” to believe that Murrietta Golding was armed or reaching for a weapon. The teen was unarmed, the lawsuit states.
“The fact that the police department and the city of Fresno’s police auditor all agreed that this shooting was justified is troubling in light of the video that clearly shows that it’s not,” Chandler told CNN.
Lawsuit: Teen wanted for questioning
Citing police statements, the father’s lawsuit says that Murietta Golding was wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting one day earlier that had caused a fatal car crash. Fresno Police sought to question the teenager and pulled over a car in which he was a passenger, the lawsuit states.
The teenagers in the car initially complied with police. But Murietta Golding then took off running, the lawsuit states, leading to the fatal chase.
Fresno Police Chief Andrew Hall told CNN affiliate KSEE that the shooting was ruled justified by police’s Internal Affairs Bureau, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office and the City of Fresno’s Office of Independent Review.
“The use of lethal force in this case occurred while officers were investigating a homicide. The 16-year-old in this case was involved in the homicide with his brother and the brother was later arrested and pled guilty,” Hall said.
“The (surveillance) video represents a different vantage point and was not what the pursuing officers could see. The 16-year-old was also known to carry firearms and had jumped a fence into a child daycare center.”
CNN has reached out to the Fresno Police Department and the Office of Independent Review for comment.

Man sends video of himself strangling cat to fiancée’s ex
An Indiana man was reportedly arrested for sending a video of himself strangling a cat to his fiancée’s ex because he suspected the two were still romantically involved.
“You think I am f—ing around,” Zackary Nichols, 29, allegedly said in a video that he sent Sunday to his fiancee’s ex, which showed his hand wrapped around the neck of the feline, according to arrest records obtained by The Evansville Courier Press.
“You really think I am f—ing around. I’ll f—ing murder this godamn cat. F–k you, you little b–ch,” he continued in he recording, which was sent via text.
The video then shows the cat being slammed onto a couch, the report said.
Nichols’ outburst was allegedly precipitated by his suspicion that his fiancée had cheated on him with her ex.
“Because she cheated on me with you the cats are no longer alive,” Nichols’ texted the man before sending the footage.
The man admitted to cops that he has kids with Nichols’ fiancée, but denied they’re still seeing each other.
Nichols allegedly copped to abusing the cat to cops, but told them he assumed he couldn’t be arrested since the cat was unharmed.
Animal Control took the cat, but it’s unclear what condition the animal is in, the report said.
There were six other cats in the house that were handed over to Nichols’ fiancée.
Nichols was charged with animal cruelty and released on $100 bond.

Woman strangled new boyfriend ‘to know what it felt like’ — after he had asked her to kill him because of his crippling depression
A woman sentenced to 60 years behind bars for strangling her new boyfriend in a Walmart parking lot in Montana said she “wanted to know what it felt like” — after he had asked her to kill him because of his crippling depression, according to a report.
Lindsay Haugen, 32, and Robert Mast, 25, were traveling from Olympia, Washington, to North Dakota in 2015 when they stopped in Billings, Montana, where she got behind him in their car and choked him as she held his mouth and nose shut.
She told investigators that she killed him “because he asked me to” as he struggled to battle his depression — but added that she wanted to “know what it felt like to kill someone with my bare hands,” according to the UK’s Mirror.
“My last fiance broke my hand, then he got behind me, just like I did to Robby, and choked me,” she said. “I woke up on the floor and it was like I was underwater and I just wanted to do that back — but he wanted it to happen.”
Police also learned that Mast had been talking about his ex-girlfriend to Hauger before his murder, something she admitted she was jealous about.
In 2016, Haugen pleaded guilty to the crime, which is featured in a new episode of the Netflix series “I Am A Killer” to be shown on the UK’s Crime+Investigation on Tuesday.
“I remember, one morning he woke up and just said, ‘Have you ever been disappointed that you woke up and you’re still alive?’” said Haugen, now 36. “I just remember how upset he looked.”
She claims she is “heartbroken” over her boyfriend’s death.
“He was only 25 and he had his whole life ahead of him but I made a choice and I took his life. Nothing I can do can undo that,” said Haugen, who ran away from home when she was 15, was addicted to heroin by age 16 and was pregnant by 17.
She later left her baby boy with her mother and joined the National Guard, where she met an abusive man who would regularly beat her, rape her and even tried to kill her.
In 2015, she met Mast at a house party.
“He had just come out of rehab but I didn’t see that, I just saw a beautiful face among a pile of beer cans,” she said.
“He held my hand and said, ‘I wish I could be happy with you but I’m not and it’s not you,’” she said. “He kept telling me he wanted to see what the next life was like. I took it personally, that I wasn’t enough for him to live for.
“He said he just wanted to die,” she added.
Mast’s mother and stepfather have forgiven the killer and regularly visit her in prison, saying they “lost a son but have gained a daughter.”
“The only way I can show how sorry I am is to live the best life I can,” Haugen said. “If I can do something good with my life, then his life will mean something.”

Woman doused with gasoline, set on fire inside Florida Taco Bell
A woman in a Florida Taco Bell was reportedly seriously injured when a suspect doused her with gasoline and set her on fire Wednesday night.
The disturbing attack occurred at about 6:15 p.m. at one of the fast food chain’s Tallahassee locations, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
The suspect, identified by police as 32-year-old Mia Williams, fled and is still being sought.
“At this time, [investigators] are on scene, trying to basically solve this puzzle, to figure out why this heinous crime was committed,” Tallahassee Police Department spokesman Damon Miller told the paper.
Miller said it’s unclear if Williams knew the woman or what may have provoked the attack.
The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious burns.

Starving dog eats cat after pets’ owner moves, leaving them to die
A starving dog ate his kitty counterpart in the UK home they shared — after their heartless owner moved out, leaving the pets alone until authorities found them 10 days later, according to a new report.
Tiffany Guest, 29, of Kenilworth, Warwickshire, was sentenced Wednesday to 18 weeks behind bars and banned from owning any animals for 15 years after pleading guilty to three animal welfare charges, according to South West News Service, a British news agency.
Guest callously moved out of her apartment, abandoning Kray, a Staffordshire bull terrier-type dog, and two cats, Reggie and Ronnie, back on May 20, 2017, according to the report.
It wasn’t until May 30 that local police showed up at the home in response to calls from concerned neighbors — finding Kray alive but emaciated, and Reggie, who had starved to death.
Kray only survived because he ate Ronnie after running out of scraps left behind in the garbage bin, officials determined.
Kray was taken to a local animal welfare agency for treatment while authorities launched an investigation.
Guest was tracked to a location near her job, only a mile from the apartment.
But as soon as she found out that she faced animal welfare charges, she fled the country for Malta, according to the report.
She returned 13 months ago to the UK, where she was arrested by border control agents.
At that time, she was bailed to reappear at another date, and took off once more for Malta.
She re-entered the country on Oct. 10 and was held without bail until her case at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.
“It is incomprehensible to think the suffering these pets must have endured and how terrified they must have been for such a long period of time before the cats died of starvation,” Boris Lasserre, inspector of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said after the sentencing, according to the report. “It must have been terrible for Kray to watch as the cats died in front of him. There was evidence the pets had scavenged to try and feed themselves as the bin contents were all over the kitchen floor.”
Kray, who was renamed Bobby by local police, has since regained his weight and has a new home.

Dad died in burning Tesla because its futuristic doors wouldn’t open
A Tesla driver burned to death after a crash because the “futuristic handles” on his car trapped him inside and rescuers couldn’t open the doors, it is claimed.
Dr. Omar Awan, 48, lost control of his car, skidded across a road and smashed straight into a palm tree in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in February.
Smoke and then flames engulfed his blue Model S Tesla shortly after the crash.
A police officer arrived almost immediately, and crowds gathered outside the vehicle, but no one was able to save the father of five because of the “inaccessible door handles,” a lawsuit claims.
The car’s retractable door handles are meant to “auto-present” or pop out when they detect a key fob nearby.
But it malfunctioned, stopping first responders from opening the doors and saving Awan, it is claimed.
His loved ones are now suing the electric car company for wrongful death, alleging the car’s lithium-ion battery caught fire.
The smoke from this suffocated Awan and burned him from his feet upwards, it claimed.
The complaint said the car burned for hours, reigniting several times even after firefighters extinguished the flames and also when it was being towed away.
The lawsuit added: “After the Tesla hit the tree, he was alive. He had no internal injuries or broken bones.
He died from the smoke he inhaled as he sat locked inside the Tesla, despite that a police officer and others were there and ready to help, until flames forced them away.
“The fire engulfed the car and burned Dr. Awan beyond recognition — all because the Model S has inaccessible door handles, no other way to open the doors, and an unreasonably dangerous fire risk.”
The Sun has contacted Tesla for a statement.
The company’s lawyers have not yet responded in court.
Tesla, the maker of electric vehicles, claimed the Model S once achieved the “best safety rating of any car tested.”
Awan’s family lawyer Stuart Grossman described the victim as environmentally sensitive and safety conscious.
He insisted Awan could afford a Mercedes or another luxury vehicle but went with the 2016 Tesla because of its safety.
He added: “These things, they just love to burn. The car is so over-engineered.
“It’s so techy, it makes you want to buy a Chevy pickup truck.”
After the incident, Tesla said in a statement: “We understand that speed is being investigated as a factor in this crash, and know that high-speed collisions can result in a fire in any type of car, not just electric vehicles.”
His family is seeking more than $15,000 in damages.
The emergency guide says: “If the door handles do not function, open the door manually by reaching inside the window and using the interior door handle.”
It is not the first time Tesla has been blamed for a death.
In May 2018, Barrett Riley and his friend Edgar Monserratt, both 18, died when they lost control of Riley’s dad’s car at 116 mph.
Dad James Riley claimed Tesla is at fault for the speed, fire and the teens’ deaths.

Sick boy dies after dad allegedly blew treatment money on parties, hookers and drugs
An ailing Brazilian boy died after his dad blew through money raised for the boy’s much-needed medical treatments on hookers, drugs and parties instead, according to reports.
Two-year-old João Miguel Alves died at his home in Salvador last Thursday following a battle with spinal muscular atrophy, which is a degenerative disease that causes muscle weakness, Metro UK reported.
His condition required that he take doses of a costly drug at $70,000 a pop to prevent the disease from advancing, the outlet reported.
To finance his pricy treatments, his family raised more than $200,000 to keep him alive, but the funds were wasted away by the boy’s father, Brazilian outlet Pleno reported.
Mateus Henrique Leroy Alves, 37, was arrested July 22 after his wife noticed numerous withdrawals from the account, the report said.
The dad was busted at a luxury hotel where he had stayed as he tore through the money on parties, jewelry and prostitutes in addition to booze and drugs, according to reports.
He told officers that he had been extorted but authorities were unable to find evidence of such an attempt, Pleno reported.

Haunted house requires 40-page waiver, insurance, drug test
SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. — A haunted house that promises an extreme experience that can last up to 10 hours requires participants be medically cleared by a doctor and sign a 40-page waiver.
The McKamey Manor experiences in Summertown, Tennessee, and Huntsville, Alabama, also require visitors be at least 18, insured, and pass a background check and drug test.
WFLA-TV reports that owner Russ McKamey offers thousands of dollars to anyone who completes the tour, but says no one ever has. He records each tour on video — for his own protection he says — and then posts them online , showing them quitting in humiliation.
It’s costs nearly nothing to enter: Just a bag of dog food. The website warns of physically demanding environments, but McKamey says the manor is a mental game.

Missouri man charged after allegedly mutilating, decapitating cat in Arby’s bathroom and found on a changing table
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – A 19-year-old faces charges for allegedly mutilating a cat in the bathroom of a Missouri Arby’s.
Tanner Maggard has been charged with second-degree animal abuse and second-degree property damage in Jackson County.
Court documents say Maggard used to work at the Arby’s before he was fired for “setting fires” at the restaurant in June.
On Saturday, he allegedly came into the Arby’s, placed an order and then went into the men’s restroom. When he came out, he reportedly told the manager, “Oh, I see you remodeled the bathroom, huh.”
Shortly after, the manager told police Maggard went back into the bathroom.
Court records say as the manager was in the bathroom cleaning, he said he could hear Maggard in a toilet stall, allegedly coughing and gagging.
After the manager left the bathroom, he said Maggard at some point left as well and exited the restaurant through a “propped open” door near the restroom.
When the manager went back to finish cleaning the stall Maggard had been in, court documents say he found a cat’s body that had allegedly been mutilated and decapitated on the changing table.
The manager told police there was a large amount of blood smeared across the toilet, walls and door.
When the manager exited the bathroom, he saw Maggard sitting outside in his truck, allegedly waiting to see his reaction to the graphic scene. Maggard then took off, according to the manager.
When police arrived, the responding officer processed the scene and said she didn’t detect any foul odor, indicating the cat had been recently mutilated.
When detectives spoke with Maggard, court documents say he repeatedly denied knowing anything about a cat. The manager said the restaurant didn’t have any security cameras.
Court documents say the Arby’s was forced to purchase a new baby changing station, a new toilet and had to treat and repaint the walls due to the blood.
