Baby hospitalized with coronavirus after dad goes to grocery store
A British baby boy was left hospitalized with the coronavirus — after his dad got the whole family infected with just one quick grocery run.
“We have been in isolation for 3 weeks, I brought the virus home after a single short visit to Tesco,” dad Peter Jones wrote on Twitter of breaking his otherwise strict lockdown to go to a supermarket.
He said that “3 of us recovered fast our 1 yo was less lucky,” writing, “My baby boy is in hospital tonight recovering from an infection following #coronavirus.”
The Devon dad said he was publicizing his family’s nightmare to highlight how even a quick break of a lockdown could have tragic consequences.
His message echoes the one made in the US, with White House coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx telling Americans it is “the moment to not be going to the grocery store” or even the pharmacy.
“I want people to know that just one trip out can risk it all!” Jones warned in his series of tweets starting Friday.
“Please don’t go out! Stay at home, and protect your love ones! Please share so others can avoid our experience!”
Jones — whose initial message was liked more than 23,000 times — later updated followers that his son was discharged and recovering at home after getting oxygen and antibiotics.
“We must try & limit visits and follow the guidance to limit risk,” he said, urging people to only leave isolation for real emergencies.
“Please stay safe and please try to avoid going out as much as possible,” he wrote.

Man arrested after bragging ‘we don’t give a f–k about coronavirus’ during livestream party
A dense Ohio man livestreamed a massive party while defiantly declaring “We don’t give a f–k about this coronavirus” — only to be arrested over the weekend for flouting social-distancing rules, police said.
“This is how we do it in my city, man,” Rashaan Davis, 25, brags in the 11-minute video, shot Friday night in Cincinnati and later posted to YouTube. “We don’t give a f–k about this coronavirus. This is how we celebrate our coronavirus.”
He was busted Saturday afternoon and charged with a misdemeanor for violating Gov. Mike DeWine’s “stay at home” order amid the pandemic, according to a police report authorities posted to Facebook.
“[Davis] narrates a video of himself and others openly defying the orders, causing even greater risk of contamination during this national health crisis,” a criminal complaint says. “At the time of his arrest, there were over 55 thousand views of his post.”
Cincinnati police recommended a high bond — or none at all — until Davis can appear before a judge because of his “complete disregard for public safety.”
YouTube commenters blasted Davis and the other revelers.
“Are we gonna get a follow up in 10-14 days when those symptoms hit or nah?” one wrote.
“The rest of Ohio spoke, and we agreed we don’t claim these people,” another posted. “This is ignorant.”

NYC may temporarily bury coronavirus victims in parks
Some coronavirus victims could be temporarily buried in the Hart Island potter’s field — or even public parks — if New York’s morgues become overwhelmed by the number of dead, officials said Monday.
They floated the heart-wrenching option as the city death toll climbed to 2,738 and the caseload hit 68,776 — accounting for more than half of the Empire State’s 4,758 fatalities and 130,689 cases.
“We may well be dealing with temporary burials so we can deal with each family later,” said Mayor de Blasio in a press briefing at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. “Obviously the place we have used historically is Hart Island.”
Located in the Long Island Sound off The Bronx’s southeast coast, the desolate spit of land is the nation’s largest public burial ground, with a macabre history. It has hosted a Civil War prison camp, a colony for tuberculosis patients and became the resting place for thousands of HIV/AIDS victims during the 1980s who were abandoned by families or unable to receive proper burials.
Mayor de Blasio — who has been loath to publicly discuss how New York would handle the overwhelming body count — faced the ghastly reality after City Councilman Mark Levine raised an even more dire possibility.
“Soon we’ll start ‘temporary interment.’ This likely will be done by using a NYC park for burials (yes you read that right),” the Manhattan Democrat tweeted prior to de Blasio’s remarks.
“Trenches will be dug for 10 caskets in a line.
“It will be done in a dignified, orderly — and temporary — manner. But it will be tough for NYers to take.”
Levine, the chair of the Council’s Health Committee, clarified in a later tweet that the plan to convert parks in makeshift cemeteries was a “contingency,” and City Hall said that it wasn’t happening — for now.
“We are NOT currently planning to use local parks as burial grounds,” tweeted mayoral rep Freddi Goldstein. “We are exploring using Hart Island for temporary burials, if the need grows.”
As New Yorkers were still dying by the hundreds, Gov. Cuomo on Monday again voiced guarded optimism that the wave may be cresting.
After a record 630 deaths were logged Saturday, the number fell to 594 Sunday, and stayed “effectively flat” with 599 on Monday.
“The flattening — possible flattening — of the curve is better than the increases that we have seen,” said Cuomo in his daily Albany press briefing.
Longtime Cuomo aide Dr. Jim Malatras agreed that New York may be turning a corner.
“This could suggest that we are indeed, potentially, at the apex,” said Malatras, while cautioning that this is far from over. “It looks like we are towards the earlier side of the projection.”
If the disease is truly hitting its apex, it comes just in time for New York’s overtaxed hospitals.
“This is a hospital system where we have our foot to the floor,” Cuomo said. “The engine is at redline, and you can’t go any faster. You can’t stay at redline for any period of time, because the system will blow.”
To ease the pressure, President Trump on Monday granted Cuomo’s request for the hospital ship docked along Manhattan’s West Side — the USNS Comfort — to take on COVID-19 patients.
The 1,000-bed vessel was originally reserved for noncoronavirus patients, but hadn’t seen many cases in the shut-down city.
“That is a welcome relief,” Cuomo told MSNBC of the move.

Roseanne Barr: Coronavirus a scheme to ‘get rid of all my generation’
Answering the question that no one asked, Roseanne Barr’s back, baby!
The comic spoke with Norm Macdonald Sunday night for the latter’s “Quarantined With Norm Macdonald,” a YouTube talk show, and naturally, the conversation turned towards the coronavirus pandemic.
“I think they’re just trying to get rid of all my generation,” Barr’s meandering thesis begins. “The boomer ladies that, you know, that inherited their, you know, are widows. They inherited the money so they got to go wherever the money is and figure out a way to get it from people.”
“That would be a good thriller,” Macdonald responds.
In case you were wondering how Barr’s handling things, she’s apparently holed up in Hawaii, where “we have one [coronavirus] case on the island” and 99 percent of the residents are sequestered and “doing what they are supposed to do.” (Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus map for the US claims that there are 371 confirmed cases of the illness across the Hawaiian islands.)
Oh, and she “[has] the time now to research and come up with the perfect lawsuit,” Barr says. Unsurprisingly, it’s related to her 2018 canceling — both figurative and literal — which she memorably blamed on Ambien, and, subsequently, anti-Semitism and her costar Sara Gilbert (in that order). It will be aimed at, broadly, Hollywood, so that Barr can “f–k over everybody in the f–king world over there.”
At least we have something to look forward to now.

6-year-old Tennessee boy with cystic fibrosis recovers from COVID-19
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (Meredith) — A 6-year-old boy with cystic fibrosis who had tested positive for COVID-19 has declared he has since recovered from the virus in a viral video.
Joseph Bostain had come down with a fever and cough and was quarantined in the family’s home, according to his mother Sabrina Bostain. He was taken to the hospital shortly after where he was diagnosed with the virus.
After numerous updates, the 6-year-old announced he had beaten the virus in a video his mother had posted to Facebook on April 1.
“I’m a cystic fibrosis warrior and I beat COVID-19!,” Joseph says in the video.
His mother also thanked everyone for their support of Joseph and his family.

Mobsters, killers, rapists seeking prison release because of coronavirus
Thousands of local, state and federal inmates are pushing to get out from behind bars, calling the jails and prisons “petri dishes” for the coronavirus.
Everyone from killers, drug traffickers and gang members to mobsters, fraudsters and accused rapists are making a bid to get out of the clink.
They are aided by defense lawyers suing for their release, usually citing underlying health issues that make them at risk of catching the deadly disease in crowded conditions.
One inmate at the state prison in Sing Sing died and at least eight federal prisoners in different facilities have fallen victim to the virus, prompting US Attorney General William Barr to push officials to increase the use of home confinement.
Defense attorneys argue coronavirus could be a death sentence for inmates like 81-year-old Rosie Baker, who has kidney disease and diabetes and has been incarcerated for nearly 23 years. Baker and her son Vance were convicted in the June 1997 murder-for-hire of her lover, Dr. Daniel Hodge, as the mother and son’s $2 million Medicaid fraud scheme was unraveling in Brooklyn.
Also seeking release is accused killer Ramzidden Trowell, 42, an HIV-positive asthmatic who is being held at Rikers Island on charges he fatally stabbed a straphanger in the Bronx who opened a subway gate for him.
A judge approved 75-year-old businessman Morris Zukerman’s bid to serve out his tax evasion sentence at home. Zukerman, convicted of dodging $45 million in taxes over 15 years, was sentenced in 2017 to nearly six years in prison.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the release of 1,100 parole violators last week, while the city has let 300 inmates out of Rikers and put them up in hotels. Lawyers are seeking the release of at least another 530 from federal facilities, and public defenders are seeking to get approximately 400 more out. While the city’s district attorneys have consented to the release of some inmates — 272 in Manhattan; about 200 in Brooklyn; 80 in Queens and 63 in the Bronx — prosecutors aren’t giving a thumbs up to every prisoner who is seeking home confinement or outright freedom.

Peru enforcing lockdown by gender to curb coronavirus spread
Peru will begin restricting public movement by gender on Friday in an additional effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Following in Panama’s footsteps, the Peruvian government said it will only allow women out Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Men are permitted outside Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Everyone must stay home on Sunday, according to the BBC.
“The (existing) control measures have given good results, but not what was hoped for,” President Martín Vizcarra said, the outlet reported.
By enacting gender-based restrictions, he hopes that the restriction will halve the number of people out on any given day.
“We have to get fewer people on the streets every day,” Vizcarra added.
The new measures will be enforced by authorities, Interior Minister Carlos Morán warned.
“On Sunday everyone has to be at home,” he said, noting that all stores will be closed regardless. “No one has justification for leaving.”
The restrictions extend until April 12, when the original lockdown, imposed on March 16, is set to end. As of Thursday, over 1,400 people had tested positive for coronavirus and 55 people had died, according to the outlet.

French doctors blasted for saying coronavirus vaccines should be tested in Africa
Two French doctors have been blasted for racism after one of them suggested trialing a tuberculosis vaccine in Africa to determine whether it could combat the coronavirus, according to a new report.
The comments came during a debate on the French TV channel LCI, the BBC reported. Camille Locht, head of research at the Inserm health research group, had mentioned conducting a trial of the BCG vaccine in Europe and Australia.
“If I can be provocative,” responded Jean-Paul Mira, head of intensive care at Cochin Hospital in Paris, “shouldn’t we be doing this study in Africa, where there are no masks, no treatments, no resuscitation?”
“A bit like as it is done elsewhere for some studies on AIDS,” the doctor added, according to the report.
“In prostitutes, we try things because we know that they are highly exposed and that they do not protect themselves.”
Mira had earlier suggested that the study might not work as planned on health care workers in Europe and Australia, because they have access to personal protective equipment, guarding them from the contagion.
“You are right,” Locht responded.
“We are in the process of thinking about a study in parallel in Africa,” he said, referencing the studies underway in other continents.
Two former soccer players in Africa blasted the doctors for their comments.
“It is totally inconceivable we keep on cautioning this,” Didier Drogba tweeted. “Africa isn’t a testing lab. I would like to vividly denounce those demeaning, false and most of all deeply racist words.”
“Africa is not your playing ground,” Samuel Eto’o wrote on Instagram.
But in a statement obtained by the BBC, Inserm said the recorded debate was “the subject of erroneous interpretations.”
“Clinical trials to test the efficacy of the BCG vaccine against COVID-19 are… about to be launched in European countries and in Australia,” it said.
“If there is indeed a reflection around a deployment in Africa, it would be done in parallel with these. Africa must not be forgotten or excluded from research because the pandemic is global.”
More than 7,000 coronavirus cases, and 290 deaths have been confirmed in Africa — though there are concerns many more have been infected.

Two kids hospitalized after eating pot gummies from Utah food bank
Two children have been hospitalized after eating marijuana gummies they got at a food bank.
“An 11-year-old and a 5-year-old were taken to a hospital Friday night after consuming ‘Medicated Nerds Rope’ candy given to their families as part of a food distribution effort from a church working with the Utah Food Bank,” according to NBC.
And there’s more candy out there — according to the Roy City Police, “more than 60 bags contained three to four servings of the candy rope [were distributed].”
The candy is particularly potent as “labels in the candy indicate that each one contains 400 milligrams of THC. Adults are normally prescribed between 15 to 45 milligrams of the psychoactive marijuana component.”
The “donations” appear to have been made by accident, and Utah Food Bank president and CEO Ginette Bott apologized “to any families who may have received this product,” adding, “we are absolutely horrified that this product went out to any of our partner agencies, and can easily see how volunteers would not have known what to look for,” she told a local NBC affiliate.
Three other children also consumed the candy, but were not taken to a hospital.

Massive toilet paper shipment wiped out in fiery wreck
This load of toilet paper got wiped out.
A tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of the hot coronavirus commodity crashed near Dallas early on Wednesday and caught fire, singeing thousands of rolls and spilling the rest all over an interstate, officials said.
The load of commercial toilet paper, typically used in stores, restaurants and other businesses, “burned extensively,” according to Dallas TV station WFAA.
The driver and his dog were not injured.
Traffic on Interstate 20 near Interstate 45 in Hutchins was snarled for hours because of the blaze, the Texas Department of Transportation said.
Demand for toilet paper has skyrocketed amid the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns in effect across the nation.
Producers have ramped up production and shipping to resupply stores depleted by consumers buying in bulk.
