Unhinged Staten Island man cuts off his penis, flushes it down toilet

A mentally ill Staten Island man cut off his penis and threw it in the toilet, officials said Thursday.

First responders were called to the home on Main St. near Arthur Kill Road in Tottenville about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday by the 50-year-old victim’s roommate.

The roommate had found the victim in the bathroom with a deep gash to his right arm, officials said.

When medics arrived, they realized that the arm wound was self inflicted, cops said. The bathroom was covered in blood.

The victim told medics he had not only mutilated his arm — he had cut off his penis off as well.

The man, who suffers from schizophrenia and was off his medication, told first responders he had thrown his severed genitalia in the toilet. The body part couldn’t be found, leading police to believe he had flushed it.

Medics rushed him to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was expected to recover.
